We did a fair amount of driving so I jumped around the dial trying to avoid political talk. I spent a fair amount of time on 106.7 The Fan. While I really enjoyed witnessing the pain of Redskins fans the day after their loss to the Giants, it was generally a whipping of the highest order.

I see a lot of back and forth between criticism and praise of the hosts. Some get more attention than others and for the most part, the lightning rod effect is warranted. It’s easy reading these posts to forget just how spoiled we are with the Little One. I have definitely become more of an a la carte listener as I’ve gotten older. Some of the hosts that I used to identify with have lost me. Some of the up and comers have caught my ear.

I honestly don’t listen to any other sports talk in the area…it’s just an immediate punch out to XM music. After the extended dry dock, I realized that when the turnover begins at the top, it won’t be my KTCK anymore but they’ll be fine. If it’s anything like what I listened to during my travels, the Ticket at 70% will still run circles around the competition. ellislivesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8577236709648198825.post-65656961964884510892017-01-03T21:52:52.266-06:002017-01-03T21:52:52.266-06:00Funny how 443 actually used paragraphs in his high...Funny how 443 actually used paragraphs in his highly intelligent missive. Yeah, I'll go...things will be different this time.' Well, you end up going, and getting your ass totally whipped, then feeling depressed and nauseous the rest of the night. That's the feeling I had after listening to about 5 minutes of Corby today. ESPN's DaK and the Cowboy firing line ended early due to Mavericks game. So I'm thinking 'I'll check out Ticket to see who's on...maybe the Podcast boys' Well, there he is, the yap master Corby, yapping about something he knows nothing about....ya know...the usual. There he is, completely ridiculing, and villainizing the police officer.
Could he have responding better? Of course, but lets look at what happened. First off, the pool was limited to tenants with two guest. There were about 30 people there with this one tenant, blasting bass thumping, ghetto foul languaged rap music around a bunch of young children. This under manned cop responds in what was about 102 degree weather. He was being verbally abused by a lot of these brats, including the little brat he took to the ground. Yes, he was out of line, but you have to look at the circumstances. This cop should not have been fired, unless he has a record of such actions. So now we've lost an officer, in what's already under manned police force, we send the message that you can totally disrespect our police officers. And lastly...and ohh so sadly...the poor little brat is sueing for 5 mill!
She's just been ohh so traumatized and violated....hopefully not as much as I felt after listening to 5 minutes of Corby!slinkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03514615546479356807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8577236709648198825.post-16893205921480177102017-01-03T17:33:29.324-06:002017-01-03T17:33:29.324-06:00443, what a sad existence yours is. OK, first, this: I liked it better when Dry Dock wasn't so dry. That is, when the extended vacations were staggered within each show; thereby leaving at least part of the show intact; adding Plus Ones when needed. This year's Dry Dock was like the old days when you'd get Elf and whomever else everyday for 2-3 weeks. Now to my thoughts on Plainsman's query:

Yea's and nay's re the JV shows, abilities, personalities, etc., aside. . . .two things struck me the most over this extended fill-in period:

1. Other than a rare nod here or there to "classic" Ticket lingo, bits, and whatnot, on the whole, these shows seem to purposely avoid trying to fit in with the Varsity programming. And it's really only Ty and to some extent Mike Sirois and Seabass that fly the Varsity "this is how The Ticket does things" flag. Meaning, they appear to be trying to create their own brand; that, while "Tickety" on a superficial level (i.e., mix of guy and sports talk), they're really not carrying on the company brand, so to speak. It's understandable. You want to stand out by representing your own age-demo/connect with the younger end of the listening audience. In so doing, the aim is to set yourself apart from THL, D&M, BaD, and IoNaD. You know, "we're the Pepsi Generation, spirit of today. . ." sort of thing. I get it. If I was in their shoes, I'd probably do the same. Which leads me to my second observation.

2. This entire Dry Dock has been one large affirmation of Rhyner's famed proclamation: "Once this is gone, there'll never be anything like it again, ever." I used to think he was speaking only to the end of the station itself. Now, whether he intended it as such or not, I've come to believe that he was talking about the Varsity lineup proper. Especially THL and D&M--though BaD has been on the station for so long, and smartly and quickly adopted "The Ticket Brand" from show/episode one. My point here is that the JV really in no meaningful way embody what made The Ticket, The Ticket. And frankly, I don't know if there's anyway they could; and therefore I don't assign any "blame" to them for it. So. . . .When the day comes, and it will, that Rhyner retires, one of The Musers moves on, or what have you not, this thing is gone. It might be The Ticket in name, but make no mistake about it, it'll no longer be The Ticket. And so, here comes the punchline, if you will: The Ticket will become pretty much indistinguishable from The FAN. Also during this Dry Dock, I listened, a lot. to The FAN. Their "Varsity" and JV sound exactly like Ticket JV members. The sole difference being there are no Dylan The Argumentative Teens or in your face with their politics actors. Other than that difference, the content and its presentation is identical.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8577236709648198825.post-43943191944862843052017-01-02T18:15:01.052-06:002017-01-02T18:15:01.052-06:00@boo.
