We're Gonna Keep It Positive While I'm on Vacay

Mrs. P and I will be heading to cooler climes for a week.  I'll try to check comments every few hours, but please indulge delays.

I have sympathy for those commenters who decry the negativity on the site.  I must acknowledge, if not break down and tearfully confess, that I have lately contributed to it.

So how about let's make a special effort to call out segments, performances, bits, CTO decisions, that we like?  I'm not saying I'm going to delete negative comments for the next week, and sometimes there's a breaking story that cries out for commentary that may be less than glowing.  But I'll be biased in that direction on a close call.

Consider that no matter what you may think of an individual host, show, bit, JV, etc., what is really good about The Ticket decisively outweighs the yelling-at-the-radio stuff.  I mean, you do think that, don't you?  You wouldn't be here, or able to comment on things you've heard, if you didn't believe that, right?

Well okay, then.  How about an attaboy for our favorites for at least the next few days?  All you guys who decry the big Neg -- let's hear from you.

I'll get started:  I heard about an hour of BaD Radio today, and I liked it.  Once again, Jake was not even close to being overexposed.  T.C.'s Tickers were fine and I believe I noticed him popping one maybe once, and appropriately.  Bob was his usual entertainingly erudite self, and Dan was on-topic.  The whole thing had a tighter feel to it.   It was a show I'd tune into again if I were a new listener.

Your turn.

  1. The Ticket has been on the upswing in terms of quality lately, and I think much of it has to do with the fact that there's simply more sports to talk about. The football talk has been strong.

I haven't heard a lot of Dongovan and Norman Elizabeth this week, but I caught the Twitter segment a few days ago and it was quite good. It's going to take a while for that show to gel...remember how long it took Bob and Dan to find their places.

Hardest I laughed this week was Ribby singing "Busey Boy." The other stations CANNOT do that.

  2. I have to agree on the Busey Boy serenade. Ribby is greatness and combine that with Corn Mo and it is absolute radio gold.

Listened to that segment with my youngin' before heading off to kindergarten and we both laughed our heads off.

  3. My youngest also laughed a lot at Ribby's song as I was taking her to kindergarten, and it immediately took me back to a time where my oldest (now a senior in college) similarly laughed at a Ribby bit one day long ago when I was driving her to first grade (anybody remember "AAAAAGH! My Ribby body!"?)

Let's see the other guys keep a bit going (and funny) for fifteen-plus years!

  4. I enjoy cash most of the time, but does anyone else wish Davey was the co host with Mike on Saturdays noon to two? Great chemistry and I find myself laughing out loud constantly.

  5. We are so lucky to have Corby to give us a first hand account of OU's win over Tennessee. Maybe even a Switzer anecdote.

  6. Great Cowboys phoneage during Gordo's Corner. Calls about soccer, hockey, tennis - the P1 knows how to work a bit.

  7. I love Davey. I really wish he had a regular role on the station again.

  8. Is FanDuel the new Sweetjack?

  9. Yes, more Davey!!!!

  10. I know it may be beating a dead Ticket mouse, but the Musers are fantastic! I'm a 23 year old P1, and getting up at 6:30 is still a beating for me. However, those guys make the beating a little less severe. Thanks Musers!

  11. "How would you like to play Twister alongside Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and country star Thomas Rhett on the field of AT&T stadium?"

Sorry, I have heard this so many times this week on the stream is it stamped on my brain. I wonder why stream listeners are subjected to auto-generated ads when we usually have to listen to all the normal commercials anyway. Oh yeah, $$$$$$.

  12. Whoa whoa whoa, 633am, that was not a positive statement.

  13. Norm and Donny doing the post game show together really improves their coverage of the game during the week. You can tell they watched the game together and are on the same page even with the issues they disagree on. I was really impressed with their coverage of the Cowboys game any time it came up this week.

  14. Throw me in with those wanting to hear more Dave Lane on the weekends. I know Cash is a very busy person during the week and his luxurious lifestyle has him missing every third show of cirque, so I can't imagine him still doing cirque for very much longer. Davey would be a perfect fit to take over, if he's willing and on board.

Hope this doesn't come off as "negative", because I'm still very much an all day everyday p1, but I'm sitting here listening to homer call of the week and wondering if Bob and Dan still care about and enjoy these staple segments the way they once did. They can still give us gems and hilarious snippets from time to time, but the over all feel of "well, this is what we've always done" seems to be very much ingrained in all of the shows these days. I understand the musers need for the Gordo specific segments. He's the outlier of the ticket in relation to the show must go to him, because he doesn't know sports and cannot pipe in randomly, thus not being able to go to the show. But for everyone else, why not change it up more often? I know the hardline are viewed as lazy to most, a sentiment I understand though do not really agree with, but the same exact show day in day out must get old for midday and drive time. Jake being added over gribbel I thought would be a good thing simply because he can breathe new life into the presentation. And while I really dig Jake as an on air personality so far, not a whole lot is different. Even donny leaving has left us with the exact same show just minus one voice. Lets change it up a bit, fellas.

  15. How about this for positivity. I would rather listen to a Hardline music or Stephen Colbert segment than another Corby's kick ass travels segment.

  16. Can we expect to hear Corby and Danny ridicule the Democrat candidates and their brain-dead voter base when the Democrats debate?

  17. Will the Hardline be in trouble with the FCC after Corby had phone sex with Switzer?

  18. Friday morning scatter shooting, wondering whatever happened to Sean Bass?

My only regret is that I missed a Junez 5:30 ticket

  19. Random Thursday broadcasts are a net win so far. The Dancing with the Stars coverage last night was pretty entertaining. As Junior mentioned, the host (can't remember his name) was funny without intending to be funny. The best so far has been Norm when he and his wife hosted a travel show. They offered some great advice like saving some money you'd spend on turndown service and spending it on a private driver.

  20. Junior's scattershooting got a shout out on Twitter this morning from Troy Aikens.

  21. Norm also got a shoutout from Troy yesterday.

    CMLS trading below $1 today.

  22. I've been of the opinion for a least a few years now that scatter shooting is the best 10 minutes of the broadcast week.

  23. I happened to be in front of the computer when hearing the McClure Law Group commercial this time. The commercial gives Bart Reagor's ads a run for their money in the awful department, so I thought I'd take a quick look at her site (mcclure-lawgroup.com).

Hoo boy. This lady seems awfully full of herself, between the ample footage of her office space and (speaking of ample) those things trying to break free of that red dress.

Then again, she does state in the commercial that they cater to "high net worth individuals"...maybe they (HNWIs) go for this sort of thing? I wouldn't know. Then again, she did receive a Best of Big D award, so she's obviously doing something right.

  24. Don't be fooled by the D Magazine awards. Those are paid for. The doctors too.

  25. I like the part of the McClure spot where the wheet whooo hubba hubba whistle comes in, and where she says something like "sure I'm hot, but don't let that fool ya, I'm a PIT BULL in the courtroom." Saw her pics. Stacked a bit, yep. Smokin', nope.

Funny. It came to light Friday that Norm isn't too high on The Invasion of Norm and D name. Funnier. It was one of his regular emailers/friends that came up with it. He was the one that kept pushing it at first. I guess after a couple of weeks he realized how stupid the name is. Donnie, alas, has not. So far the show is OK. The whole picks of the long pole thing is asinine and an insult to Norm. Norm and his partner put in actual analysis to come up with the picks (whether you think said analysis is any good or not isn't the point). Then Donnie steps in and picks teams based on whatever stupid criteria/on that pops into his head that morning. I'm hoping the show grows on me (there's your positivity, Pbro). I'm hoping.

Musers keep gently musing. BaD is better as a single D. There has obviously been an edict from Cat to both Jake and TC to bear in mind at all times that it is the Bob and Dan Show. Friday TC actually stopped himself about 4 words into an utterance and said "sorry, I didn't mean to just jump in there." Bob told him it was alright. Jake too has been noticeably less noticeable, unless asked by Bob or Dan to contribute. THL is THL. Which means that it's still on its downward trajectory. Easily the worst show in the daytime lineup. Sorry for the negativity, Pscro, but that showgram only gets worse with each passing week. They don't care so neither do I.

  26. Well, Norm's partner does the pickin', he just does the sellin'.

  27. I always enjoy The Tee Box. Probably easy to be an even show since it is on once a week...but a great consistent presence. In fact, I really enjoy Ticket Saturdays....including TC. While I agree with others that Davey should have a spot somewhere....today reminded me of the creativity of old. The Fantasy Football reading was awesome.
