I happened to turn on Ferrall last night (Thursday) around 8:30 or 9, and he was talking about The Ticket. I wasn't near the radio when he began, so I didn't catch all of what he was saying, but I believe he may have specifically mentioned BaD Radio.
He was talking about the Cowboys at the time, making the same point that Jerry made in almost the same words, that he was "stunned" that they didn't win any of those seven games.
Anyway, if anyone heard this, please report. Sorry I didn't catch it all clearly.

The Fbomb was dumped by the board op but there were some technical issues where it didn't actually dump it.

ReplyDeleteOn that topic it's seems terribly silly that in 2015 the ticket or any station that's choose too can't say it on the air. I'm not tryin to judge but if you listen to the Ticket with children the "anus" is on you. The f-word is pretty mild compared to some of the topics discussed and the "stupid bitch" drop gets used with regularity. This is just another one of those areas where dumb outdated rules from a bygone era have far to much influence.
@chris k - agree completely. I wonder how far off we are as a society when the idea of "foul language" will be thought of as archaic.

ReplyDelete@Chris K I tend to agree with you, but I also don't want to start hearing 400 F-bombs, C-bombs, etc on the Ticket or any other radio station every day. Part of the genius of The Ticket is the razor thin line they walk. I don't want everyday radio to become like IJB and the like, and without restrictions it would become that.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree. I don't even like the casual vulgarity, the "damns" and "helluvas." I'm not offended by them and I don't have a religious objection to any of them. It's just lazy -- I like to think that these guys are better than that, that they can emphasize a point creatively and colorfully rather than falling back on playground stuff. And to hear it on a popular station degrades public discourse generally.

Pman just for clarification I'm not arguing the host should use profanity rather that it seems silly to me that they can't. I'd prefer on this issue to let the market decide and if thy start dropping f-bombs and people feel like you do the ratings will drop an things will change.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with the profanity, and policing it on the air is probably not the best use limited resources. Bill Cosby was widely lauded for his no-profanity comedy routines.
ReplyDeleteI think the trend toward on-air proclamations of weed usage is worse than profanity. I am pro-legalization, but I don't want to hear corky and JakeZ discuss last night's hotboxing and their in-depth discussion of Martha Washington having a big fat bowl waiting for George when he got home from harvesting the weed crops.

ReplyDeleteNow, I do agree with your second point. Regardless of one's stance, it is still illegal and therefore shouldn't be discussed in the flippant way that it is on-air. It will be legal in small doses, much much sooner than later; at that time, while annoying to listen to (IMO), it'll be fair game. Much like "x was so wayyyyyyystid last night" night--e.g., the Sea Cow on a what now seems to be weekly segment (that is, when he's not out sick or on vacation, which is quite often)--I find that sort of segment boring. Then again, when I was younger I probably would've thought it the tops.
Speaking as a twenty something, I enjoy the occasional drug refetence, especially when noted in the over the top "ohhhh, man. You should've seen corby at hangout fest" or some such. If you're under the age of 30 in this day and age, chances are you partake in said activities, at least every now and then. Hearing anecdotes involving your leaders in that fashion is always worth a giggle or two.

ReplyDeleteI don't really know how "employment" works at cumulus but I've always imagined the host (bob and Dan for example) are independent contractors/performers while the station staff (producers/board ops, etc) would be classified differently.
DeleteIn short, I could see how a contract might keep Corby from ever being drug tested but I don't have any idea how the Jake's or Mino's wouldn't be.
Although, I'm a lawyer and have had jobs with the state and local government as well as access to highly classified DOJ documents and never been drug tested so maybe it's an industry thing.
I laughed when Cat slyly referenced a ban on making fun of Cumulus's stock price on air with BaD today. It had become a common topic on WTDS amongst the hosts, especially Mike.
