A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

MTC Is Home to a Multitude of Viewpoints: Republican and Democrat, Cowboy-Lovers and -Haters, ISIS and Moonies, Jew and Gentile, Hardline-is-OK and Hardline-Irremediably-Sux, Same with Corby, Gordon's-a-Brilliant-Pulitzer-Shoo-in and Gordon's-a-Vag-Obsessed-Juvenile, but . . . .
. . . can't we all agree that T.C.'s "Joel Klatt Theme Song" is pretty funny?
"You're cute, Joel, but you got those college playoff games hell wrong. No jinj for you tonight."
I'm not sure. I think Klatt may now be a regular feature interview on BaD, and they told T.C. to throw together a theme song, and he came up with that. But I'm not sure about that -- just heard them briefly discussing the thing one afternoon.
Pretty much, Plainsman. It was when they first discussed having Klatt on as a regular guest, and they said they'd need a theme song. TC chimed in with the Jooooel Klatt...JoelKlatt on the spot, then a good strong P1 (I believe), used the drop and added the beat. Perhaps it was C-lo the producer, who has done some other songs for The Ticket.
While Cumulus will obviously have to address their issues as a whole, look at this nugget as Mary Berner tries to make her changes and as iHeart may sell off assets as soon as next week.
So strange how Gordon is able to talk about his dad in one segment and it really does hit home in so many ways, and in the next segment he can make fun of how Freddy Mercury never bothered to get his teeth fixed for (insert joke here). George seemed a little weirded out about it.
@11:36, I think that is what makes Gordo, Gordo. He can be very sentimental one second, and make JFK jr. jokes the next. He is one of the best I have ever heard at playing radio and walking that razor's edge.
I've said this elsewhere but I'm going to repeat it. I believe angry/defensive, everyone is making fun of me, TC is the best bit in radio. We are not allowed to make fun of people, or as we used to say kick them in the nutz, bc that's how the world is today and it's likely for the better but their is nothing better than hearing TC's voice go up a couple octives as he tries to control his anger over everyone piling on him. He is everyone's annoying little brother but you dont have to feel bad for laughing when he falls down.
On a side note I expect in real life that he is treated with the same respect as any other employee or human for that matter. I'm merely referring to "on air" bits that make me laugh.
Well, it took longer than I thought it would, but Pman had to delete a comment.

I heard THL commenting on the cheaper gas prices, and how that is not a good thing. I guess I must be missing something. Have they not noticed all the places hiring today?! You can't go anywhere without someone offering you a job. Unemployment the lowest it's been in years! People are able to put gas in the car and get out and support other businesses. This has been stated before, but minimum wage always bought 4 to 5 gallons until Katrina hit. After that, gas prices became outrageous, and strangely enough, during that period, the oil companies were making gut-busting profits. Where did it put us?! The 2008 recession...the worst since the Great Depression. Let me give you a comparison. When I was a high school senior in 1977, gas was about 56 cents. In 2000 [when Bush took office] gas was about $1.40, so, in 24 years...gas went up only about 80 cents. In other words, it stayed in kilter with minimum wage. American's could not financially adjust to the $4 a gallon and we paid for it with the recession and Bush paid for it with a 22% ouster rating and a crippled legacy. I hope....I HOPE, we've learned a lesson.
I didn't hear the discussion, but I can tell you, I live in the middle of the East Texas Oil field and $30 a barrel oil is very, very bad for our area. Everything is connected to the oil field. The well count from this time last year is down over 100%. That means a huge spike in unemployment. Which in turn means less consumer spending. Our small city's 4th quarter sales tax revenue was the lowest it's been since 2008.
Platt, my fine Confessor, welcome to the thread and I hope we hear from you often.
However, if the "well count from this time last year is down over 100%," then you live in a parallel universe in which it is possible to have fewer than zero wells.
Which, I suppose, is more than consistent with a "huge spike in unemployment."
Apologies for the tease. I'm sure times are bad in well country. But there have been some very good times in recent decades as well. The ant/grasshopper story comes to mind.
Echoing Platts' statement, being here in EastTex too...
There's a mass exodus from the smaller towns in the area with the drop in oil prices no jobs = people moving from oil cities = less sales tax = drop in city services and less economic growth. The benefit of that is my apartment lease is waaaaay less than it was a year ago.
Economics are complicated, things looking bad in one area for a group of people often mean benefits for another group. I'm not affected by oil prices, so the fact that I can fill up my car for $15 is amazing, makes weekend trips to the motherland more viable.
bottomline is Economics be crazy
apologies for grammar issues, and mis-spellings, typing from superphone.
Platt, I have a home in Linden, so I know what goes on in east Texas. So let me ask you, how did you survive before the arrival of the $4 a gallon gas of 2006? I don't ever remember hearing of oil execs being on food stamps. I know there are people not making the coin they were during that period. But the vast, vast majority of the country are not 26 years old young bucks able to sling a wrench on a rig for $50 an hour, and are not involved in the oil business. Yeah, east Texas is oil country, but the majority of the country isn't. 56 year old Edna, down at the Dollar General, also needs a job. Suzie, the waitress, doesn't need her hours cut. When people can afford gas money, they get out and spend money. You're seeing now. There were record breaking travelers for Christmas this year. Take those fat times as a little kiss [albeit costly] from Bush regime and move on. ....At anon 8:52 am, believe it or not, I was a fan of Bush, but his second term killed us. Not sure if you saw the debate where Trump told Jeb that his brother was the reason Obama was in office; he not only hit the nail on the head, but he pretty much smashed it thru the board
I grew up in West Texas and saw that those that planned for the bust during the boom were the people who survived.
During the boom, you'd see trucks with out-of-state license plates everywhere - Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona. People would come and live well because they were making money hand over fist - until they didn't. Then they would disappear and the people who had been conservative were left and continuing to make their living. They would keep things running until the next boom and the cycle would start all over again.
As an aside - the bust is a great time to pick up used equipment for pennies on the dollar. Several friends made a metric crapton of money that way.
My ginger daughter let me know that today is/was "Kiss a Ginger Day". Unfortunately she lives in ATL, GA, so I had to kiss her via text. However, when I got home my ginger wife got a big kiss. (P-man, let me know if there is a way to post a photo of my two gingers in the comment section.)
I work for a company whose technology is used in the oil industry, primarily off-shore platforms. $30/barrel does not help anyone; IMO, it is recessionary. However, the dialogue is out there that Saudi is keeping the spigots open to hurt Iran. The effect on shale is collateral damage. My company has already gone through one round of downsizing.
So where what happened to you in the late 90s? When oil was at low?
It's "recessionary" because Wall Street says it is. Remember when the Dow reaching 10,000 was the end all be all? Now, 10,000 would be deemed a depression to end all depressions.
Wanna learn about the real deal economy? Watch the Baltic Index.
I may sound like Ed Carter here, but does anybody else think that the Norm and D Invasion name is a little disrespectful to those who fought and died on those beaches? Just kinda hits me the wrong way when I hear it. Maybe I am being overly sensitive.
I neither can believe Norm and Donnie kept the show name. It's dumb, not clever.
The show itself isn't bad. The more Donnie asserts himself and dares to strongly disagree with Norm, the more we get dug in-hard-headed Norm. Or what I like to call "Narrative Norm." Norm who constructs a narrative, thinks it the only correct view, and then holds on to it for dear life, no matter how asinine and/or blatantly wrong it might be.
We have seen one or two blow ups with Mike but I'm waiting for the first good one with Donnie. In the short time Leon Simon was a co-host with Norm in the KLIF days they had some epic disagreements. Several of them were very, very tense. Kinda like Norm's early days at the Ticket with Gordon. Fascinating radio.
It's Drake's "Hotline Bling". Makes perfect sense that they'd use that song--it's huge. The lyrics for the ticketstock song are terrible though. Total giveup.
849, the Touchdown Brothers are, next to the impersonations, my favorite 8:40 bit. My vote to delete would go to Carlton Maxwell and the Youth Minister.
The Generic Youth Minister is so spot on tho Pman! I literally live across the street from a youth minister and about 2/3 of the things Gordo says are direct quotes from him.
East Tex: No way to append anything to comments, unforch.
However, if you would like to email me your ladies' photos, and assure me that they have given you a full release for their publication on this site, I would be pleased to display them in a future post in a respectful fashion.
I've always found the TD brothers mildly amusing, but the humor in the bit amplified about 10X the day I tuned in to Wip94 (http://player.radio.com/listen/station/sportsradio-94wip) and heard the exact same guys in real life. While the East coast loves to characterize the American idiot as having a southern accent, it was shockingly hilarious to learn there are really people like the TD brothers who actually live a real life outside of film, TV and radio bits.
As far as Gordo's solo bits, it's always worth enduring the first 95% of Carlton Maxwell only for the "Leave me alone BITCH!" at the end. For me, it's worth listening to the Ticket Mouse just to see what thoughtless, unnecessarily heavy gift he'll get from Junior that week/month. The youth minister? Yes that is a real guy. What makes it so funny - Gordo has the nuances down so accurately. The same goes for Jesse the Usher. On the other hand, I would not be disappointed if Jub's swimteam coach, Marge, disappeared for good.
No matter how many times I hear it, Catlton Maxwell screaming "WHAAAAT, I'M NOT GAY YOU BITCH!" gets a side splitting laugh from me. Also the ticket mouse and Chris chris closing with "I'M BACK YOU M.F'ers" does the same.
The kitty/wings segment was funny, but every one of those women sounded like they were on their 2nd pack of marlboros of the day, which makes it disgusting to think about. What was JJT's ridiculous excuse? Was it just that he was hacked?
Anytime you can get Donnie and Mike together it's a good day. Donnie and Danny play well together too. Enjoyed the hell out of what I was able to hear this afternoon.
Fantastic Donnie, Mike, and Danny HL today. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Why is Mike so damn good when he's paired with ANYONE but Corby? And why is Corby so damn good when either solo or paired up with ANYONE but Mike? I don't get it.
