A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Do You Like EJs? And a Question
(1) Yes, I do like me some Eli Jordan. The Ticket has some fine Tickermen, Ty and Sean and others; even T.C. is, in one sense or another, a must-listen.
But Eli sounds like nothing else on the Ticket -- nothing, that is, since the departure of Ticker God Rich Phillips. Eli is kind of a cross between a throwback Mr. Broadcast Pipes with the staccato delivery, and a reg'lar Ticket jamoke. His voice commands attention, which I deliver even though I have almost no interest in any of the results he's discussing.
By the way, have you caught Eli and Ty's "Country Force" fill-in show? Pretty good little show, pretty darned good little show. I've always liked Ty as a host and he and Eli make a pretty cool team, I thought. Good showgram title, too. I could hear more of that.
(2) This morning the Musers were (unfortunately) reprising the Eighth-Grade-Graduation-Presidential-Candidate-Impressions Kid. Craig said to Gordon something like (precise recollection dim): "You should name him as your successor, since your last designated successor was a complete failure." And they all had a good chortle, and Craig said: "But at least he ended up leaving and wrecking one of our competitors," OWTTE.
To whom was Craig referring?
[PS: Any show replaying viral videos = burnt segments.]
He was referring to Logan Gourley, I believe.
ReplyDeleteOops, guess not, since Logan disappeared after getting fired. Kill me.
ReplyDeleteI think KT was Gordo's designated successor that they were referring to.
ReplyDeleteAs Kyle said it was definitely KT
ReplyDeleteSomeone can correct me if I'm wrong, KT being designated Gordo's successor came from a Random Gordo show one weekend (or 2). There was even a little Machine thrown in for funsies.

I think every Ticker man besides TC is strong to quite strong. I used to be able to tune in around 8 Friday morning to get my fill of TC's tickers, until the edict was thrown down.
ReplyDeleteHyperbolic Corby is really showing his ignorance of Valley View Mall. I've been to several movies at the AMC theater and never experienced people talking to the screen (a different demographic patronizes that theater).
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Corby the parking lot amusement parks attract the hispaneo.
Then after offering his HSO's on Valley View, he admits that he's never been there. I'm sure he's more comfortable at Northpark.
The factors that lead to talking to the screen at a movie theater are:
ReplyDelete1) Demographics - a predominantly African American crowd universally talks to the screen
2) Type of movie - Watching a horror movie with a predominantly black crowd is actually a fun treat for a white person. I once attended a horror film in Cedar Hill and was literally the only white person in crowd. I was a little annoyed at first having never witnessed the screen talking but by mid way through I was enjoying having everyone in the crowd yelling stuff like "watch out you bi..h that man is about to stab you" I got to the point where I was joining in on the screen talking. Fun time
speaking of black people in movie theaters, has anyone noticed that reagor dykes is absent from the ticket airwaves over the last couple of weeks? Is it a temporary reprieve, or is his pleading to get to know him a thing of the past?
ReplyDeleteI dunno, but Dain (Dane? Dayn?) Meiner (Miner?) with his "I've got nothing for you" while chuckling so humorously is grating.
ReplyDeleteI've heard Bart Reagor's sweet ads late night Sundays and at other "off-hours" times over the past few weeks.
ReplyDeleteEli is great. Like Pbass (Fender) said, he's a throwback of sorts to the early Tickerman days (pre-Pman's listening era) in both voice (actual Texas accent) and tone (more newsy, less "look at me" humor). So, yes, I dig me some Eli. I will say he's a bit creepy when it comes to women, at least on his Twitter feed he is.
KT was indeed Gordo's hand-selected heir. Of course it was a joke. Even though KT does his best to insert as many Gordo-isms as he can over at The FAN.
I love Junior but Infrastructure Man is beating of the highest order.
ReplyDeleteYou can scrap today's Hardline run sheet. Jury has ruled in favor of Led Zeppelin. Wall to wall coverage.
ReplyDeleteI like Infrastructure Man. It's so lame, it's funny. Reminds me of a Chris Elliot-type character on Letterman back in the day.
ReplyDeleteCharlie Gray (Sal, Internet sales at Meador) please stop. Just awful. Almost as bad as your previous. I punch out!
ReplyDeleteHave to agree 435 - I can't reach the volume control fast enough. Not kidding.
ReplyDelete2 weeks in a row we have evidence that TC is the worst ticker guy in the history of the station. the fact that he still has a job is a miracle.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing really when you look at how Grubes handled things and his attitude compared to TC's. One is the GOAT, the other is the most inexplicable thing the station has done in the past 20 years.
ReplyDeleteI thought the segment on THL re: Bill Simmons was interesting. One of the points was that he might be a great guy in real life, but the on-air personality rubs them the wrong way or his articles rub them the wrong way. Another was that they felt that he thought himself the smartest person in the room. I met one of the Hardline guys once about 4-5 years ago. Really nice guy. But the superlatives, the guarantees, the "look..(insert exasperated sigh or whatever that breath of air he releases are called)....I thought the parallels were interesting. And what's with Danny calling the Rangers rotation, the rotashe? Is he paying homage to M+M?
ReplyDeleteHere's an idle thought. Maybe TC's value is in filling a void left by The Hammer's departure. Different personalities, but weird noises, malapropisms, over-the-top opinions at inappropriate times. . .
ReplyDeleteMove over Eli Jordan, and make room for John Little. Really digging his Tickers. Reminds me a little of the great David "The Duck" Burrell.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, John. And Eli, you're still aces.
I've never seen Gordon so active on Twitter as he is right now. He is winning Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI like listening to Eli. Also, he is the voice of the Flower Mound Jaguars on Champion Sports Radio. And if you follow FMHS football...you know that's not an easy job. He does a great job, and I've listened to him and Cody Barfknecht call many games. His voice gives the impression he is much older than he really is.
