A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Please Check In with White Elephant Reactions Today
The Ticket has turned White Elephant Day into glorified round tables, since every guy is in his accustomed role as host, producer, Tickerman, etc. More bits, that's about the only difference.
Still worth listening to, if only for the bits.
I'm going to try to listen as much as I can, but would rather hear from you.
White Elephant Day is one of the biggest days of the year for visits to this site -- most of them, I suspect, from JV, although with JV now relegated to typical JV tasks, they'll probably check in less to see what people think of them.
In any event, keep your comments thoughtful, please -- you never know who might be watching.
Thanks.
I'll get started: I really liked the conversation with Connected Kay (or was it Kate?) this morning. Every once in awhile some stranger will wander into the show, either live or on the phone, and I'll think hey, this person wouldn't be a bad permanent addition to The Ticket. If Cat ever has thoughts about adding a babe to the lineup in some capacity (other than Traffic Twist), he might not have that far to look.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought about it? Sorry to derail the topic of this thread, but...
ReplyDeleteA female as a permanent on air hostess - would it work? Absolutely not. Because:
1. It would change the dynamic of not only the show the female joined, but the station. There is a reason groups like the military, Boy Scouts, sport teams and some country clubs have only women - its just easier. There is less logistically to worry about.
2. The window of comedic bandwidth would be limited with a female around - can you imagine Gordon being comfortable during Muse telling a certain brand of story with a female around?
3. Many listeners tune in to escape their wives. Face it. They do not want a woman in this sphere of their life, and the station understands that.
wink
Fake Spalding - always a treat.

ReplyDeleteWhite Elephant has been pleasant so far. I love the mix of the hosts this time every year. I'm glad that none of the hosts are in their normal spots. It breaks things up and brings something fresh for one day every year. Having said that, I feel that morning drive has been rather Corby heavy and light on Dan. Fake Spaulding had me rolling in my chair.
ReplyDelete@p1 wasteland
ReplyDeleteI'm not advocating female voices on the Ticket, but consider how much trepidation there must have been over adding Donovan to Bob and Dan's show. They were probably concerned that they would have to tip-toe around some topic areas, but as it turned out it gave them license to talk about whatever they wanted.
I'll reserve comment on Corby so as to not upset Chester.
I'm not a big fan of Sea Bass, but I think he did a great job with return music this morning. Not enough Dan. A two segment game show kinda started to drag. Overall, Corby is better when he is away from Mike and Danny. I really enjoyed his 1940s reporter guy talking about Lou Groza.
ReplyDelete@ 9:35 Anon - very valid point. Being the first African American on a completely lily white station was a big deal. But does anyone at the station actually harbor tenets of racism? Absolutely not. Also, Donovan had been in local sports radio for years prior to joining the station, and many Ticket personnel already knew him personally. Placing him with BaD was not so bad a transition. Moving him with Norm was pure genius.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there are any Ticket personalities who really don't like each other. There are plenty of them that seem like they could get on your nerves after a while, and some who are better at tolerating the juvenile antics than others.
ReplyDeleteI started listening to Gordo and Mike but tuned out on their second segment. The first one was good, but got tired when they kept going in the second segment.
ReplyDeleteNorm and Georgio has been fun so far. They are really good together. I'd be in favor of Norm and George (NAG) show. Norm gets kicked in the nuts so many times and just keeps going like the Hall Of Famer he is.
I agree that Corby was great without Mike and Danny and Danny is doing just fine with Norm and George.
I haven't heard any e-brakes today, which is a little disappointing, unless they came in during Mike and Gordo. 'Member when we would get E-Brakes on White Elephant Day? #MemberBerries
I was really looking forward to Gordon and Mike, but wow what an epic disappointment. A show full of talking about penis sizes, no thanks. I'll never get that time back.
ReplyDeleteNorm "The Toe" Hitzges
ReplyDeleteIt couldn't be more obvious that Gordon and Mike did zero show prep. They probably didn't even talk to each other until they came in to mix with the morning show. What a waste. Gordon is great when he shows his smarts, but is awful when he goes down the road he went down this morning.
ReplyDeleteLots of wet towels here. Mike/Gordo was hilaaaaaaarious
ReplyDeleteWet PAPER towels?
ReplyDeleteCool of Sirois to bring up the question of why did the hosts stay as host and ticker people stay as ticket people. Sounded like it was all Cat.
ReplyDeleteMike and Gordon was horrible.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed Norm and George!!
Danny and Corby are like the two buddies that need to be separated in class. Once apart they both have a lot of game.
Anonymous p1 wasteland:
ReplyDeleteChris Arnold and David Robinson don't count as African Americans?
Donavan was late to the party but it was a smart move on Cumulus's part to add him to the mix when the Bone went under.
Also what sports did Donovan do before the Ticket?
ReplyDeleteGot to hear most of it, so I'm going to pass on T.C. and the Top Ten. It was better than I expected - these guys are just so good at interacting with each other. I wasn't as bothered by Mike and Gordon as some, but I appreciate it was not everybody's cup of white elephant.
ReplyDeleteI give it two thumbs up and one thumb 5/8 of the way up.
George may be the most underrated host on the Ticket. He seems to make everyone he's paired with better. I liked the small phone-call segment with Mike and Gordo, but didn't get to hear a lot.
ReplyDeleteCorby/Donovan/Dan--Pretty good. Needed more Dan. The gameshow for two segments started to drag. Cory is much better when he is away from his little buddy and grandpa.
ReplyDeleteMike/Gordon--Started out great with the talk of the Kennedy doc, then took a hard nosedive into the side of a mountain. Apparently zero show prep. Mailed in.
George/Norm--As somebody already said, George is such underrated greatness. Really enjoyed hearing Norm outside of N&D. Quite enjoyable three hours. Sounds like Norman was a pretty pretty good little kicker back in the day. A toe poker.
Junior/Sturm/Sirois--Best show of the day. I could listen to Junior talk about his Nerf basketball league on a loop. I could have done without the Tyler Seguin show, but we got the bonus of a Johnny Wyatt visit which was greatness. I wish Craig would take more part in the 8:40 bits outside of Sal in south Philly. His Parcells is gold!
Tickers--Enjoyed Sea Bass' return music. Really enjoyed Ty Walker playing Spare Wars. Fahy's jokes were pretty great too, outside of the hockey joke which made me cringe.
Overall a good little white elephant outside of 10 to noon.
Gordon admitted this morning that he and Mike talked about guitars in their preshow meeting
ReplyDeleteAs is the case every year, huge spike in this site's hit on White Elephant Day.
ReplyDelete@plaisnman, I bet the little Ticket sees a spike in ratings and streaming as well.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to find out this morning that Aikman's daughters are marginal P1s. Whoda thunk it?
ReplyDeleteOverall, WED was pretty good but I think it loses a lot when you keep all the players in the roles. I was glad Sirois made a point to call it out. WED is much better when you force people into different roles. Junes doing tickers is always the finest of radio gold.
ReplyDeleteMaybe sponsors complained? Or maybe Cat didn't want the hosts completely blowing the day off (like how some hosts have done as ticker guys in the past)? Who knows, but I vote for more wackiness next year.
All shows good to listen to.... but for White Elephant day too sanitized and not anything to put in the memory banks. Comes off as just another day in the big picture. I agree with other mentions... I want to hear all the players in different roles... I want to hear hosts doing tickers and ticker guys hosting and all the in between.....THAT is the fun of it all.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely on low end of the totem pole of white elephant day rankings.... good but not great. Nothing I'd chalk up to a legendary day of remembrance like most of the others.
I can't imagine the advertisers complaining. Don't the ratings go up on WED?
ReplyDeleteStill kinda difficult to know what ratings actually are when 10% of Nielsen's PPMs nationwide failed to work for weeks in November.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/160243/nielsen-to-delay-findings-on-cause-of-lost-ppm-con
Again, it's hard to accept the validity of any ratings when the method of gathering data is not reliable. That you learn the first week of any research methods class.
As for yesterday, I did enjoy the Corby/Dan/Donovan/Jake segments for the approx. 90minutes I heard of it and the second hour of Gordon/Mike. I did not listen to George/Norm nor Bob/Craig.
anyone know why they haven't done Cowboys theatre 1310 the last couple of seasons? that's always a good listen.
ReplyDeleteMost likely they just don't want to run afoul of the NFL.
ReplyDeleteCowboy Theater 1310 was discussed at the last GNO. It might be a legal deal, but maybe the hosts just don't want to go to the shop on Sunday. Anyway, somebody suggested that with current technology everybody should be able to participate from home.
ReplyDeleteShaggy is right. I believe the NFL and baseball both have a rule against any kind of play by play or commenting on live action unless you are the official broadcast of the team. This is why they had to leave the press box when they did remotes from the Ballpark.
ReplyDelete@3:02 Loved me some cowboys theatre back in the day. It might've been due to strict nfl laws of no commenting on the play by play as games happen live. But probably more to do with the hosts not wanting to do it anymore. The boys just don't seem to have the energy for bits like that these days.
ReplyDeleteWED:
ReplyDeleteMorning: Very solid. Agree with those who say more Dan would've been nice. Also agree that Corby sans Mike and Danny is a much more palatable host. Having said that, he still dominated nearly every segment. I think within two weeks of being saddled with either another host(s) or even solo, the same issues/complaints would arise. He is what he is, after all. I'm sawwwreeee, and I guess that I'm in the minority, but Fake Spaulding is a beating. Jake is obviously trying to imitate Gordo, in every way. The one funny spot was the "Spaul the Apostle"line. And even that was total Gordo. Fine, I understand. You imitate the master. But I think some of us, at times, fall over ourselves in praise whenever Jake does something. IMO this is one of those times.
Mid-Morning: I also agree with all who found the penis/vagina-grooming-issues segment to be out and out stupid, not funny. It would've been when Gordo was still in his 20s. He's not. And although Mike was doing his best to minimize his contribution to the segment, hearing him talk about such things is a bad touch all around. JFK talk, while already discussed during Tuesday's What's on Mike's Mind, was interesting. Also, Mike's answer to the caller who inquired about Greggo perked up my ears. His answer suprised me a bit. Mike sort of admitted that the original HL was the best HL (and he'd be correct). On the whole, I found the show to be hit or miss. In truth, the two hours were a bit of a disappointment. The admitted lack of preparation hurt them and it showed.
Midday: Perhaps the best pairing of the day. I found Norm's discussion on retirement to be most interesting. And, for the first time, he did not state in unequivocal terms that he would "die behind the mic." To my ears (and perhaps I misheard), he obliquely hinted at the possibility that there might be an exit plan. He went on for several minutes about time, writing, travel, being able to do those things with a functioning body (in Norm's case, somewhat) and sound mind. George, too, was great during this segment. I also enjoyed the "What we thought of the local teams this time last year and we think their future holds a year from now" segment. Danny's contributions were excellent throughout.
Drive Time: What can I say that hasn't already been said? Joonz was a rockstar. Herr Wyatt was laugh out loud funny. Nerf League talk reminded me of my own childhood--it's always good to know you weren't the only kid-goober out there! Bob was Bob, which, means he did an excellent job. The two had a great sports talk vibe going on. Sirois's game show was the best one of the day (was there a game show edict of sorts from Cat?). Some really great Ticket trivia tidbits that I'd long forgotten.
All in all, another successful WED. True enough, there weren't any go down into the Ticket annals/lore moments. But it was one fantastic day of local radio. As regards the Ticker "controversy," I was fine with letting hosts be hosts, supporting cast, support. Ty playing Spare Wars was greatness. Fahy's jokes were every bit as stupid as they were not funny. On that note.
No Sturm on the Stars game tonight. I guess it's understood the Cowboys get his full attention when there is a conflict.
ReplyDeleteCurious how Switzer-phile Corby handles Troy's football life, which didn't cast Barry in a very positive light as a coach.
ReplyDelete@2:48
ReplyDeleteHow about this?
*sigh* look, it get it . . .
Hahahawww, 3:51, that is EVERY time!
Delete3:51 spot on. "Look, I get it. He's not Jimmy. Even he says that. But [stuff]..."
ReplyDelete@351 - Isn't that a drinking game someone made up? =D
ReplyDeleteI went back and listened to Junior and Bob and the Mike Sirois game show was pretty good. Those were great questions including having Bob name as many Tour De France cyclists as he could.
ReplyDeleteI have never in my life met someone who clears their throat more than Peter King.
ReplyDeleteHe has nothing on Tim Cowlishaw.
DeleteCan someone tell me when the Hardline talked about a football life with aikman? I cant seem to find it on my u save it account. thanks.
ReplyDelete"I also enjoyed the 'What we thought of the local teams this time last year and we think their future holds a year from now' segment."
ReplyDeleteAbout halfway through this segment I felt like Coach Carlisle and thought to myself, "Norm, you’re radio puzzle games aren't that appealing to me."
2:42 Pretty sure they're the only ticket program that hasn't covered it...yet, anyway.
ReplyDeleteWell, we got our answer. Aikman football life segment. Not one critical word from Corby's lips about beloved Switzer. Even some alibying on his behalf. Wow.
ReplyDeleteFrat before facts.
Good stuff Corby!
Gee, Piraeus, then why on earth would you ever listen to sports talk radio, watch ESPN or FOX Sports, read a sports blog, listen to a sports pod, etc.? Because that's all they are, period. The NYSE of athletics. It's all speculation.
ReplyDeleteI heard the segment, 540, and I'm not sure what you want the guy to say? What, is he supposed to start RIPPIN'! Switzer's tenure as Cowboys coach during a segment on a doc about Aikman?
Some of you are unbelievable. The FAN and ESPN are merely a push of a button away. And so are music and other types of talk stations and pods. Go there. Anything. But stop the nitpicking and overall pissing and moaning. Specially when it comes to the very frickin' nature of the genre of entertainment.
6:25, I listen because Ticket programming is, on the whole, great. Part of that greatness means clever and even-handed commentary. See Bad radio. So no, wasn't expecting Switzer to be "ripped" today. But in a segment where Aikman WAS ripping Switzer, I expected a little bit of acknowledgment that, yeah, maybe Aikman had a point. Maybe it was a factor in the team's decline. Maybe tough to play QB and disciplinarian at the same time while the head coach lets things slide and is chummy with everyone.
ReplyDeleteSeemed like Mike and Danny were willing to go there, but Corby was pretty cautious about protecting his party line. I thought he was the snake! Disappointing.
Sturm sporting the bolo tie on the Stars' pregame
ReplyDelete@6:25...I love the Ticket and am all on board except for THL. When that 3 o'clock Ticket bell rings...I'm OUT! I don't even hang for WTDS. I do switch back and forth from Fan and ESPN. They too can be beatings, but for some reason, they're more tolerable than Corby. It's like Steve D tries a little too hard to be the new Galloway, but I appreciate the Cowboys talk. B & S have they're hits and misses, but their Tebow in the night club story had me tears laughing so hard.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely thought Corbles was being a Switzer apologist yesterday. Didn't expect anything different. You don't poop in your nest if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I think Corby's relationship with Switzer is unprofessional. I have been trying to think of any other Ticket host that has a similar relationship with prominent local sports figure. I'm sure Norm has lots of friends in the business, but I'm not aware of him buddying up with any of them.
ReplyDeleteCorby is about to have another dilemma when they release the video of Joe Mixon punching a woman out.
Yeah but Switzer hasn't been a coach for 20 years. It's not like he's buddy-buddy with Stoops.
ReplyDeleteNorm seems pretty friendly with Charles Haley. But again...Haley has been out of the sport for 20 years.
Anyone catch Sirois tell TC to basically stop chiming in this morning? Twas pretty sweet. Said if all you're going to do is open your mouth to argue with and contradict me, then keep touring off. He did just that.
ReplyDeleteThe mic, not touting. Fracking iPad.
ReplyDeleteGeorge's Christmas music segment this morning was the worst segment since that one day they talked about college mascots.
ReplyDeleteI didn't hear that. What was wrong with it?
ReplyDeleteI thought the very extended Muser segment on Gaylord Perry's accent and way of speaking crossed the line from amused observation to supercilious near-cruelty (but probably not actual-cruelty-in-fact). Hard to hear my sainted Musers carry on like that.
1257, that must have been a moment for the ages. When you say "Anyone catch Sirois --" are you suggesting that it might have been hard to catch? Was it an aside or was it pretty obvious? Donnie or Norm react?
ReplyDeleteI don't have the same negative reaction to T.C. as some others on this site, but I must say that I do sometimes get the vibe with non-BaD shows that he may, he just may, not be the favorite of the other showgram participants.
Good gosh almighty the entire Hardline team in doing a retrospective on the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack didn't realize that Hawaii was a US territory at the time of the attack. One asked the other was it a state? no, was it a territory? the answer was no and then they went on to do some sort of mental gymnastics explaining it was an independent country in which we placed some military installation. Face Palm. A little review of history is helpful when prepping for this type of segment.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, 547, you know THL doesn't know squat about historical or current events.
ReplyDeletePlainsman, I meant it in the sense of "did anyone else hear? / what are your thoughts if you did?" It wasn't hard to miss, at all. Norm is on vacay. Bewm in Da House has been manning the 10-12 slot all week. Donnie did not react one bit. He kept the conversation at hand going without skipping a beat. Meaning, that he realized Sirois wasn't joking, and this wasn't the time to veer offtrack and goof on Mike for being "haughty." In fact, a few minutes later, the Chris Sales to Boston trade came up; Mike asked Donnie if he knew anything about the prospects the Chisox got in return for Sales; he did not ask, even obliquely, the resident life long Chisox fan and expert, TC. TC for his part did not say a word on the subject. Indeed, I can't recall him saying anything the rest of the show (sans doing his Tickers). If anyone remembers this differently, etc., I'd be interested to hear it.
I enjoyed Corby's discourse on the nature of warfare.
ReplyDeleteIt never fails to crack me up when Craig, Gordon, Corby, and sometimes Danny make fun of listeners who just want them to "stfu and talk about sports and boobs only." That, they're just like everyone else and they too have a right to say what they think about social issues, current events, and the rest. OK, fine. I agree, in principle. But that also means that, just like everyone else, if you don't know what the f you're talking about, are talking out of your arse, and/or hold views that others disagree with.....you ought to be called to the carpet regarding the former, have thick enough skin to take it--especially when your views, unlike mine or anyone else here on the MTC blog, are given a bully pulpit--regarding the latter.
ReplyDeleteT.C. Fleming did not have a good day. First, he gets shushed up by Mike Sirois. See thread above.
ReplyDeleteThen, on Intentional Grounding, Robert Wilonsky is bantering with John Fahy. Bob noted that T.C. did the Top Ten on White Elephant Day:
Bob: How does that make you feel?
Fahy: I could care less about that guy and anything he does.
And it didn't sound like a "let's pretend to not like T.C." bit, either. Poor fella.
Listening to Corby discuss Pearl Harbor is like listening to the unprepared 9th grader giving a history report. Just all over the road. Why the heck did he have the lead on that segment anyway?
ReplyDeletePS How delicious is it that Corby's hero is a Trump supporter. I'm guessing Corby won't call Switzer some of the names he has called other Trump supporters.
Junior didn't have any trouble bringing up Switzer with Troy Aikens.
ReplyDeleteAll of Gordon's Christmas segments make me want to pick my eardrums out.
ReplyDeleteThe opinions on TC are well documented but I think what you're hearing is the build up of a lot of frustration with TC abrasive at times delivery of opinions as facts.
ReplyDeleteAs much as Mike wants to thank he's Tier One, I think he knows that some of the JVrs have an inside track on him. He often tries to pull rank on people.
It is funny how Jake, Machine, TC, and Monty conflate opinion with fact. Funny to me, but I'd imagine not so funny for some coworkers. Specially those within the same "Tier."
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear Mike Sirois shut down TC. He seems to be the only one willing to do it. Well played Sirois.
ReplyDeleteEmergency brake winner.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to overthink this, but I think it's interesting that they used the T.C.-Sirois contretemps as an E-Brake candidate. We've heard other tense on-air moments that got swept under the rug come E-Brake time, but this one was front and center. No one thought that re-broadcasting Sirois's disciplining of T.C. was going to cause anyone a big problem.
ReplyDeleteInteresting also that, upon express consideration, Fernando awarded a full E-Brake point to T.C. and did not split it with Sirois.
By the way -- T.C.'s commentary was rather gassy, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope that this is the beginning of the end for TC and that Jack Kemp will soon follow.
ReplyDeleteSirois is my hero. BOOM! DUDE!
cue ball anus foul!
ReplyDeleteOnly Musers-related tense on-air moments get swept under the rug. All other shows are fair game.
ReplyDeleteSee Norm-Donnie, BaD Radio, TrainStation-TeeBox, etc
I don't listen to Norm and Donnie usually. Does TC usually go on long, drawn out diatribes like that? It was painful to listen to and makes for awful radio. So glad Sirois shut him down.
ReplyDeleteStrange stuff--I heard Skip Bayless' show being advertised on both The Ticket and ESPN 103.3 today!
ReplyDeleteGassy, inarticulate (enough "likes" to make a teenage girl proud), and at times incoherent. Sorry, TC, to claim on the one hand "coolness," i.e., a question of aesthetics/the beautiful, is not objective and then on the other to say that some opinions on "coolness" have more weight than others is paradoxical, incoherent. First, to claim that some opinions have more import than others is implicitly an objective statement. Secondly, and even more egregious, is the entirety of the statement itself is an objective claim: that is, "I categorcially state that there are absolutely no absolutes (objective truths, ideals, etc.), absolutely.
ReplyDeleteDavid The Duck Burrell is doing Fan Flashes, i.e., Tickers, over at The FAN. Good to hear his voice again. Totally wronged by Gordo.
ReplyDeleteCould Judge Reinhold's apology have been written by a lawyer or a PR firm? That seemed to disturb Corby mightily when it was Levi Petit.
ReplyDeleteI have no recollection of a David Burrell ever working at The Ticket
ReplyDeleteHe was a Ticker guy the first couple of years of the station and an early Gordo punching bag
DeletePman, love the blog, frequent visitor, but is there ANYTHING you can do about the one guy who posts anti corby rants and then piggy backs support of original post with other anonymous comments pretending to be someone else? It's getting out of hand at this point. I'm not saying every single one is the same dude, but a huge portion of them are. It's pretty obvious.
ReplyDeleteOf you've ever heard the Gordo "carbon based life form" reference, it's about Burrell. I've heard him do TSN News spots on KEOM the past few months. I concur with 829, it's nice to hear his crisply enunciated utterances again.
ReplyDeleteAs great as the TC/Sirois Ebrake was, am I the only one who thought that if one of those two left The Ticket, he may try to lawyer up and sue The Ticket and Cat for "harassment and a hostile workplace"?
ReplyDeleteBut if he did, his reddit AMA in which he took out coworkers, would be brought to the court as well as his less than 90 day tenure as host/PD in Pensacola and a reason why it was so short.
All I do know this week is that I agree with Jub Jub in that "I Woke You Up" is easily the best song from PDog & Maddog.
1208: Not a lot I can do about that guy or guys. The content-free anti-Corby/Jake/T.C. posts do get extremely tiresome but absent forensic examination I'm not prepared to undertake, I can't block these guys and unless they're completely out of line I put up with them. Thought about making a policy that posts that don't actually give any reasons for the criticism may be deleted, but that kind of starts us down a slippery slope. But you're right, there are some self-supporting serial posters here who are pretty much a thrashing.
ReplyDeleteDA: Nah. I don't know how it all works, but I think you have to be in some kind of protected class (minority, female, grossly overweight, escaped convict) to gain federal and state civil rights protection. Could be wrong about that. Now, of course, we have to put up with "bullying" allegations from lousy co-workers and employees who richly deserve the pounding they get in the workplace.
ReplyDeleteAs far as T.C. is concerned, I don't have any inside scoop on how he's regarded internally. We get intimations that maybe, just maybe, affection for his contributions don't extend far beyond BaD (Cat's "no T.C. during prime time" remark, a certain vibe when he's with the Musers). My guess is that he's got a lot of technical computer and audio savvy and was willing to become BaD's slave, which BaD seems to need more than other shows. So BaD likes him.
To me, he's a perfectly OK Ticker guy, and, as someone noted above, his non-Ticker contributions aren't always long-winded and revelatory of his self-regard, and can be funny. So I don't have a big problem with the guy. Like him or not, he worked hard and put up with a lot of nut-kicking to get his foot in the door at The Ticket, and I kinda admire guys like that.
@12:08 Anon
ReplyDeleteI post some criticism of Corby because I think it's well deserved.
However, I do not "piggy-back" responses to myself. You may have to come to grips with the fact that some others agree with me.
I also post thoughts and opinions about the Ticket that have nothing to do with Corby.
I don't piggy back. I just don't care too much for the snake. I got a question: yesterday when BaD was talking about Judge Reinhold, some one said it would soon be forgotten. He said some celebrity was caught nude in a porno house. Then Dan asked 'You mean like Pee Wee?' Who was the celebrity that got caught in the porno house? My phong rang right at that time and I missed it.
ReplyDeleteI only heard a part of it, but it sounded like Monte + the Machine did quite a stretch on the Perils of T.C. Unforch, the only part I could catch was the part I already knew about, his set-to with Mike S. I caught the tippy-tail end of some talk about tension between T.C. and Fahy, but not sure it related to the Wilonsky conversation. Can anyone report?
ReplyDeleteSL
Dear Plainsman - on today's Not a Podcast they replaced the dust up stemming from the White Elephant day when TC hosting the Top 10 said "this would be the first competently produced Top 10 in a long time" which led Fahy the next night to start of the show with a 45 second rip of TC. Fahy's nuclear response was funny IMO. Poor TC...
ReplyDeleteMeant to say replayed above, not replaced..
ReplyDeleteFred Willard is the other actor that got caught with his pants down
ReplyDeleteM+M also talked about the tension on set between Gordo and Sirois when Gordo was pushing Sirois' buttons about Vida. That replay was tense. Machine commented that they were just staring at each other. Of course, that didn't make the e-brake but should have.
ReplyDeleteT.C. really said that about the Top Ten?
ReplyDeleteHuh. Apparently the guy is ineducable about taking shots at colleagues when you're at or very near the bottom of the pile. Disappointing.
And . . . how, exactly, is one to distinguish between a competently and an incompetently produced Top Ten? I mean, no offense to either T.C. or Fahy, but that show is nothing but pure leverage, cutting and arranging content produced by others, with intros. It's like bragging about having the best-managed second-hand shop.
Is it even the tiniest bit possible that Cat encourages dust-ups like that, that they're a bit to generate listener interest? I'm thinking "no," but that kind of behavior is so self-destructive that it prompts the wonder.
Plainsman
ReplyDeleteRe... 6:14am
On Saturday I heard NAP when they played the dust up between TC and Fahy. If anybody gets a chance to hear it (Fahy's part). Listen to where he says something to the effect of "I didn't need to have BaD radio get me a job on the ticket...I actually earned my spot". Which would lend credence to what you speculated above.
Fahy's retort was actually pretty analogous to responding to a sling shot with a bazooka. May have been over the top but he wasn't the instigator in this ill advised dust up
ReplyDeletePlainsman,
ReplyDeleteTo your point above there is no way the JV would fight and even take shots at the prime time players if not approved by management. Think about all the shots Not a Podcast team take at the Muser's insinuating there not sports smart. No way they stick around if not ok with the Catman.
