This one is bugging me for some reason. In the Firehouse Sub commercial, the guys talks bout making a donation and then sends it to a female firefighter. She says her name VERY quick and it sounds to me like "Cass Eater Cola". Any idea what she is saying?

DeleteIt was a little cringey yesterday when Corby lauded these "amazing" performances at hangout. He built them up so much, then each one he played, with the exception of Weezer, was maybe mediocre at best. I guess you had to be there.

Charlie Grey still has the most obnoxious commercials on the air. Immediate punch out as I won't allow these (on purpose) to penetrate my ear holes into my brain pan. "They really need a Vetter at Meader."
The Best Show Coming to Town is the only Muser segment that causes me NPR time. Not terrible but meh.
Was nice to hear Davey on a Saturday morning, He is very listenable compared to the JV they're trying to develop.

I get the annoying ads commentary. It does make you wonder whether or not these companies have a marketing agency helping them or if they're just winging it. Due to the Catman of the Ages' emphasis on the Little Ones hitting their posts coming in and out of breaks, I found that I can get within 30 secs of the next segment. I have even figured out the ~3 min delay when I am streaming over the interwebs.

I think whenever any host gets into one of their passions, it’s going to turn off some people. See Norm travel talk, Junes cycling talk, Bob philanthropy talk, Corby music talk, Gordo breast-feeding talk. The U2 discussion didn’t bother me but I get whipped when I have to hear it from every damn host. At last check, I’ve got multiple segments from Sirois, Bob, the Muse Crew, and THL. As of this writing, the Musers are about to burn another segment on it and it’s Wednesday, five days later.
It’s one thing if everyone is talking about the latest Cowboys game because chances are, all of your listeners have seen it and want to hear about it. Heads up…no one went to Hang Out Fest and the obsession across multiple shows talking about it is like forcing your dinner guests to see slides of your honeymoon.
The segment on THL covering Gregg Allman was excellent. It shocked me because Mike took the lead and did most of the talking. I thought given Corble's love of the Allmans that it would have been him, but no sir. Equally as surprising was Danny's absolute lack of knowledge concerning said subject.

ReplyDeleteYeah. I feel like this thing has run its course. Not because of the proprietor or its customers. But rather the station itself. It's a become a boring entity. There's really nothing of interest to discuss. Ads? Seriously? Spot fill in weekend show talk? Sorry. Not interested. And in truth, it seems not many else are either of mind to discuss the trivial pursuits of the now non descript embers of what was once greatness. Thing is. It's not anything The Ticket did, really. It's merely time's cruel incremental march, the sein zum tode. Something else will come along for us D1P1s and the likes, but, like Rhynes said lo those many years ago:once it's gone there'll never be nothing like it again. Enjoy the last remnants of two great institutions, while you can.

ReplyDeleteAnon 10:20....you're right on my brother. I was a D1P1 once. Still love the Ticket but it's no where near the fun it once was. I remember Rhynes saying "once it's gone there'll never be nothing like it again", but I'm past ready for a change at the "The Empty Line" time slot. I know they catch a lot of flack on here, but I listened to Not A Podcast and Shake Joint Monday. I enjoy both of those shows. Now doing it on a five day a week basis may not work, but maybe at least give it a shot.

I remember some local rag doing a review of the Elf and Shapiro show back in the early ticket days. He said he felt like the host were having a better time than the listener. That sums up Corby PERFECTLY. Corby just rambles on about stuff nobody cares about, I don't know how this guy has kept this gig so long.

ReplyDeleteI was cruising the AM channels today and settled on 570 KLIF just after 3:00 today. It was a real estate show that had on Candy, from candysdirt.com who made up a term "home porn". Evidently the station did not want her to use that term on-air.
ReplyDeleteThe host (and I don't usually listen to this program and don't know any of the people) made a comment something like "we should be on the ticket. Those guys say anything." And Candy responded "I advertised on The Ticket." Just a little more banter before moving on.
Just thought it was little out of the ordinary for one station to mention another like that. Is KLIF under the same umbrella as KTCK?

ReplyDeleteBoth are Cumulus stations. That is why Norm joined KTCK years ago and Donnie came over from The Bone. WBAP is part of the group now which is why you will hear mention of some of their employees on WTDS from time to time.
Cumulus cluster in Dallas is KTCK, KSCS, KPLX, KLIF AM+FM, WBAP, and KESN.

Nah! Don't shutter down. Every open blog, the Ticket takes some sort of criticism. They're gonna be your thin skinned Ticket nazi's that can't take it. This is a pro-Ticket site, and you would think mngmt would maybe take notes from the listeners and make needed adjustments. Yeah, there mite be a thread that peters out every now and then; but nothing as bad as a Corby travel-trip story.

Just caught a few minutes of "I'm Dying Up Here." It appears to suck based on a four-minute sampling, but I will say that using The Stooges' "Gimme Danger" in the background has attracted my attention.

I like the way Plains runs his blog. I don't think he ever professed to being a "professional" blogger, infact, quite the opposite. He throws out a topical subject and we comment. Sometimes the conversation will take a turn. So what! This is obviously a sideline. But the bottom line is...it's his blog; if you don't like it, don't read it. If you get tired of the TC and Corby complaints, show me some article about Corby where the comments don't turn to disdain. I recently came across some Dallas Observer where Corby was proclaimed something like best sports host ,or something, by the writer. Every comment responding was hatred toward Corby and the magazine. But mostly, 98% percent of the comments are positive and fun to read. Also, I like the red head pics.
