BREAKING: Shake Joint News

I don't have much information, but here's what I do have:

Bob did let the secret out of the cat-bag, so I believe we can take it as confirmed that The Shake Joint will be moving on.

I am advised that Jake and Sean will address the issue when TSJ substitutes for BaD tomorrow (Friday), and probably also on the Sunday show.  So tune in if you can and report here.  My ability to tune in is uncertain.

I have no information on other weekend changes -- zero.  However, Your Plainsman is going to go out on a limb and speculate -- really, I'm making this up -- that filling TSJ's slot will not be the only weekend change.  Look for movement and possible realignment of other weekend programming.  Other departures or lineup changes are not out of the question.

Your Plainsman also has no information on the reason for any of this; however, I believe I heard somewhere that TSJ was regarded as a ratings success as weekend listening goes, so suspecting this may be one of those "personal reasons" things.

If The Ticket is losing either Sean or Jake -- I hope not -- My Ticket Confession wishes him the best.

[LATER BREAKING:  Please note comments below indicating Jake & Sean not departing, but moving to Cowboys pregame.  No news to date if Shake Joint will return; I'm speculating "no," but don't know.]

Not everyone shares this view -- not everyone shares any view about The Ticket -- but I liked The Shake Joint a lot.  Never understood people criticizing Jake's and Sean's "chemistry," which I thought was excellent, and their collegiality genuine.  Neither hogged the show.  And it got better with time.

I'm going to miss it.  The silver lining is that other deserving -- or at least new -- JV voices will get a tumble.  Craig "Junior" Miller may have to revise his Tier assignments.

Will MTC's Country Force campaign finally bear fruit?

I'm still waiting for my commission on the move to 96.7 FM.

This morning's redhead from the prior post didn't get much exposure, so she gets another shot here, and I'll add one more.

Hey, thanks, Plainsman.

Bye, guys.  Don't you be moving too far up the dial, now, y'hear?

  1. No Shake Joint was probably because of their increased involvement with the Cowboys pregame since Bob won't be involved anymore. I think.

  2. OK, thanks. Looks like others have better info re TSJ and Bob.

I still think we're going to see some other shifts on the weekends, and I'm also guessing TSJ will not return after Cowboys season.

  3. I think Eli & Ty or someone else will replace them. On the Teebox last weekend they said something along the lines of that "Eli would have a big announcement coming up soon". This would make sense as he has been in heavy weekend fill in rotation lately.

  4. Bob announced last week on air that he would no longer be doing the Cowboys pregame and that Sean and Jake would be the permanent hosts there. So yeah, neither of them is leaving the station.

  5. Not only is Jake not going anywhere it must be obvious that he is the heir apparent to any future primetime opening. He actually fills in very seamless no matter where you slot him and whomever he is teamed up with.

  6. Thanks to all for these corrections. I hadn't heard any of this. Glad no one is leaving. But this does mean some shuffling and opportunities for promotion (and who knows, maybe demotion).

  7. Machine on vacay? If not.......????

  8. P-Man, Sean and Jake will be taking over as host of the Cowboys pregame show. Bob is stepping back from hosting the pregame show this year. I assume if the Shake Joint is coming to an end its because of that. They probably don't want to do six hours of radio on every Sunday. I would guess that the Shake Join would come back after the football season but that's just me speculating wildly.

Re-posted here per P-Man's request. My source was the same as Shaggy, Bob announced it during the 12:15 segment one day last week whilst P-Man was on vacation.

  9. Good grief. Actual tweet from Greggo today.

"There are so many angry, bitter gals on the rag at CNN & MSNBC..I bet those newsrooms look like a slaughterhouse!!"

  10. Bob said he was bowing out of the pregame show because he wanted to take his boys to the game himself. Brett is playing 7th grade ball for the first time and he wanted to spend a little more time with him so they could watch the game together as he is learning to play.
    Well done, Dad.

  11. Greggo tweet update: Ed Bark told him it was vile, and they had a back-and-forth.

  12. Mark the tape. Shake Joint is explaining the deal right now.

  13. Looks like Guess 1 was correct: Shake Joint will not be back after Cowboys season.

Not getting any illumination on other weekend changes.

  14. Not a Podcast - Mino says he didn't realize he was no longer mentioned in the open until somebody pointed it out to him. Doesn't know if it's a bit but doesn't think there is any real animosity with Mike.

  15. I thought Justin and David did a fine job today. Sounds like Machine is just off for a week and will return.

Regarding that AMA they did at the end: I sensed a bit of uncertainty in the two of them talking about the Rhyner/Mino dustup, if dustup there is. I thought Justin made an interesting point -- Mino v. Mike, Machine v. Mike: Mike probably has little or no awareness of it being a thing, whatever Mike is doing with the intros, tweets, etc. I was reminded of something a White House spokesman said when it was revealed that they did not wake President Reagan up when a couple of Libyan planes were shot down back in the day: "When an elephant swats at a fly, it's a crisis for the fly, not for the elephant."

  16. From Mike twitter on AUG 9 in response to no Mino I open:

I dont consider him a part of our show...he's a bob & dan acolyte...we're just stuck with him

  17. Something tells me Mike caught wind of some shut talking and his attitude towards No No turned from suh du to indifference. My guess is the same goes for Machine.

  18. F'n autocorrect. Shit talking and Mino.

  19. I missed Shake Joint this morning. Anything further?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Naw. They claim to have no knowledge of who their replacement might be. Understandably, even if they did, there's no way they could say it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If I understood correctly, they'll be on as The Shake Joint for a few more weeks. Sounds like Cat has some time to play with.

  22. BIG changes are a comin' to that weekend lineup. Stay tuned, P-Man.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If that means stability of lineup, I'm in. Even if that means the end of CdS, which airs on average twice per month. And if it means no more Machine, then by all means, yes! If that's the case, I do hope Monty still has a weekend host positions. Dude has totally earned it. Country Force has better be a part of it.

  24. Hold on to your collective buttocks. Times they are a changing.

  25. Frankly, I'm ready for some big changes. I mean BIG changes. The only show I can listen to these days is BaD. I now have to turn off The Musers during every Gordo segment except the 840 bit. He's awful For all those who say how down the middle he is politically, bulsh. Total and utter bulsh. He's now turned everything into some sort of political crap session. If it was all GOP biased I'd have just as much disdain, by the way. So tired of it. Oh and that whiny femmy voice that accompanies it makes it only that much more annoying. Once more for the reading impaired: I'd hate it equally as much if it was GOP biased. Dan doesn't want audio, I don't want constant politics. A little here and there is fine. Not what we have now. Norm and Donnie are fine but it's just not that good. Donnie's gotten so much better over the past few years, and Norm is Norm, but together, I dunno. Maybe it's Norm's always agreeing with everything Donnie says by qualifying it with "know that we did not talk about this before the show" or maybe it's the silly Birdhouse segment, or whatever, but it's too hit or miss for me. Hopefully Cowboy season will fix that. Then again, they do the postgame show, and that means we basically get to hear a replay of the following day. The Hardline is just bleepin' the worst. There's no reason to go into it. We all know the issues. The issues are real and they're reflected in the fact that the supposed flagship heritage show of record often has either the lowest of second lowest numbers in any given book--both relative to other Ticket shows and competition. I'm not sure there's a more punchable broadcaster on DFW radio (other than Fish and Machine) than Corby.

As for the weekends. Like 101 said, gimme some stability. Love Cirque, but come on already, either have the show on a regular basis or give up the slot, permanently, to some talent for whom having a show isn't a side gig but rather a frickin' dream. I'm sorry to see The Shake Joint go because I like both Sean's and Jake's sports talk. I won't miss the other stuff, I must admit. Hopefully Country Force or hell a TC helmed show will take its place. Yeah I said it, TC.

  26. "the fact that the supposed flagship heritage show of record often has either the lowest of second lowest numbers in any given book--both relative to other Ticket shows and competition."

This is false. The Hardline beats their competition handily every month now. Been that way for a while outside of that brief ratings weirdness

    ReplyDelete
  27. I knew I was gonna get that comment. I wasn't clear. I meant relative to their fellow Ticket shows vs. the competition. Meaning, their direct competitors are closer to them on a regular basis than the other Ticket shows are to their direct competition. Hope that makes more sense. The numbers I've seen, Shaggy, do not indicate The Hardline handily beating their competition. Specially relative to what their cohorts do vis-a-vis their competition. Where are you getting these numbers? I go to radio-online and a few other sources. While they do beat their competitors, it's not always total destruction. Not the sort of walloping either The Musers or BaD put on their foes. That goes doubly for The Musers, who crush all.

  30. Growing weary of Seabass's comments any time something religious is brought up on any show he participates in. I'm no fan of Joel Osteen, but Sean getting into it with George this morning on Muse in the News was too much. His self righteousness is worse than the Christians he seems to mock so much.

  31. Joel Osteen deserves every bit of scorn anyone throws at him. Bravo Sean

  34. I agree with those who believe -- or claim to have knowledge -- that there are going to be changes on weekends other than a replacement for The Shake Joint.

Me, I don't mind it so much that Cirque du Sirois has been somewhat spotty in appearance the last year or so, as much as I like the show. Gives some others a chance to audition, which is always of interest.

So other than Cirque and Shake Joint, who else do we have on weekends?

    Race Week
    The Kickaround
    Not a Podcast
    Teebox (purchased time, I think)
The Train Station Fitness Show (purchased time, I'm certain)
The Local Ticket (music show with DJ Mark)

Race Week's been around forever and I'm guessing it has strong sponsor support. The Kickaround is the Ticket's only serious soccer coverage, and interest in the sport seems to be growing. Teebox, George Di, and Local Ticket are probably not going anywhere.

Which suggests that the changes will involve The Shake Joint replacement, which we already know must happen, and Not a Podcast. Hope Justin and Mike find a home somewhere on The Ticket, either together or with other broadcast partners. Reaction among Confessors to that show is mixed, with Machine being the lightning rod.

We should not ignore the possibility of expanded Ticket-originated coverage on weekends.

No clue what the CTO is thinking, but, as I say, I do expect changes beyond the TSJ replacement.

But if I get a scoop that sounds reliable, you'll know right away.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I should not have neglected the possibility of changes with Cirque. A fair chance of that, I think. Cash has other fish to fry and Mike's a busy guy at The Ticket already. So sure, there's a not-negligible chance that we'll see some kind of change there, although I would not think that asking those lads to come in to do an early Sunday morning show would be one of the possibilities.

  36. Sorry, Plainsman, I'm going to keep making the same comment to Shaggy. Joel Osteen is an easy target. The blinding white teeth, the prosperity gospel message and its utter commodification/consumerization of Christianity--I get it, he's something else. As you can tell, I'm no fan of Osteen and THAT brand of religion. I am, however, sick and tired of the virtue signaling, ready to pounce on any statement or perceived intention by another and done so with glee set. Nine times out of ten these people do nothing but sit in the peanut gallery and throw fruit. It's tiresome, cheap. By the way, I haven't heard anyone in this combox or on The Ticket say a damn thing about those saying Texas deserved Harvey, or those who have utterly politicized it. Wonder why?

    Glass houses, Shaggy.

  37. I'm putting my money on a CdS replacement show. Or. Davey takes over for Cash, with the understanding that Mike is to be in the power chair every Saturday barring a legit excuse.

  38. I love when the Anons come in here and say "Big news on it's way! This time, it's major!"

    And nothing ever happens.

  40. The pictures taken outside Lakewood Church don't tell the whole story. There are pictures of the flooding inside. (It's a converted sports arena, the main floor is below street level). I'm no fan of Joel Osteen - I think he is more motivational speaker than preacher. But we all chose sides after his first tweet about closing the church and nobody wants to hear "the rest of the story."

  41. Forgive me if I didn't listen. I don't listen to the station all day. What did JD's biggest fan on the ticket have to say about the Tampa situation? No updates on twitter. Please advise. Can't see how he can defend him in this situation. Watching a spare Chi Sox/Twins game on MLB Extra Innings and the Rangers are getting ripped on the Twins broadcast.
