The response that will get the Confessor going: "Our whole lives are prep. But I start thinking about the next day while driving home from work, trying to piece it all together. But the whole show is in my head before noon. I've got it all planned out."
Skepticism-inducing responses aside, I think it's a pretty good interview with Corby. He comes across likable and menschy.
Second, thanks to Confessor 1106 (two posts back) for this account of the end of E-News yesterday:
"Corby and Danny getting each other worked up on gun control issue. Corby says to Mike, "you are awfully quiet over there. What do you think about this?" Mike responds, 'I don't think this is what people listen to us for.' Corby and Danny were both a little taken aback and they went to break almost immediately after."
Considering the response we got to the last post, think how many more emails these guys must get on this subject. Not to mention My Leader COTA. Email can be an unreliable barometer of listener reaction, of course, but I'll bet they've heard on the subject of excessive political coverage -- if you can call it that -- for a long time. If 1106's account is correct, it's refreshing, and bravo Mike.

ReplyDeleteToday's enews, there was zero gun talk. They did briefly mention the Las Vegas shooting, but that was it. No guns or politics. And it was a much better enews.

ReplyDeleteGlad you're back Plains! Man, never let the terrorist win. I'll admit, I've been listening to mostly Hardline this week, basically just to catch Rhynes take on the Petty death. I heard that yesterday when they went straight to commercial. I consider myself conservative, but I too believe it's time to put some kind of regulations on certain firearms to the public. I listen to some of these conservative talk shows, but I swear, these host scare the hell out of me. I was listening to Chris "I must be on crack" Krok tonight. Evidently there are some Republican leaders coming out on some stronger regulations, and Chris refers to them as "traitors"! His take on being able to stock pile these insane weapons is that...IT'S HIS RIGHT! And he was scoffing at the very reasons people give for changes. The people that made these rights, were pretty much carrying "muskets" at the time, and didn't foresee what would eventually happen, and bottom line, why would a normal person need, or even want these type of weapons? After about 15 years of stricter laws, criminals flipping on each other, and less of the military type of rifles on the market, you would see a difference. But it needs to start some where. I didn't mean to get "Corby" preachy, but it is topical. BTW, if somebody needs their own show, how bout Intentional Grounding? I really enjoy those guys.
ReplyDelete... also something to consider, even if you're the most law-abiding person in the world, and you got what's basically an arsenal of weapons, who gets these guns when you die? I know I'm pissing off some gun guy that thinks it's his constitutional right to own a grenade launcher!

ReplyDeleteGeorge sounded off around 7:25 today, and he apparently doesn't get it. We aren't upset with anyone for expressing left-leaning views. We are unhappy when such views are accompanied with "agree with me or you're insane". Mainly, it's Danny and Corby who are the culprits here.

You say George doesn't get it because you're assuming he's referring to people who complain about Corby and Danny. It was pretty clear from what George was saying (and Junes and Gordo joining in) that the three of them get emails/tweets directed squarely at them complaining about them talking politics.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the local talkers get email too when they talk sports and are just as put off by it as are we sometimes are with the Ticket talking politics. Mark Davis is an example. When he was at WBAP they picked football games on Fridays. Picks of the Pole had nothing to worry about.

ReplyDeleteSeems to me the hosts are getting rather touchy when it comes to being criticized. Seeing how the critique of others, and often times rather personal and pointed and sustained critique at that, comprises much of their daily output...forgive me if I look askance at them.

ReplyDeleteI heard the George and Craig commentary this morning. It was really in two parts and it's helpful to separate them.
ReplyDeleteThey started off expressing surprise that anyone would think they wouldn't comment on public matters, since they had always done so. Fair enough. When George picked it up, the conversation quickly morphed into a slightly different point, a complaint about the angry my-way-highway trolls. Having done this site now for a number of years, I certainly expect to hear many differing points of view, but it's the angry ad hominem keyboard kommandos who raise the ire. I'm certainly with Craig and George on this second point.
Returning to the Musers' first point: I think most Confessors recognize that the Musers don't generally overdo the current events/political stuff. What I think Craig and George may not recognize, however, is that -- especially in Muse/News, but not exclusively -- sometimes Gordon gets into a jag and does what sounds like the same story with the same viewpoint day after day, and that does get tiresome even if the viewpoint is reasonably expressed or even one with which the listener may agree.
I don't hear much Invasion or BaD but my sense is that they don't do a lot of that stuff.
The Hardline, of course, is a different bird. Confessors have remarked on Corby/Danny's lecturing tone which too often comes across as insulting and foolish. And these are guys I like, so it's doubly troubling to hear excessive and not-terribly-original opining on matters beyond sports and farting. Interesting how Mike's mild rebuke seems to have had instant results.

Just wanted to chime in on Justin...uh chiming in. Agree with both above. He is on his game. Glad he’s back! I didn’t know tickers could be read so consise and no stumbling, I really would like to see him get a Saturday show again. Those 2 fill ins from last sat uh leave something to be desired buddy.

ReplyDeleteI heard bits and pieces of TnT ("T & T?) this morning. Small sample size, but were talking sportsy with enthusiasm, which is something.
ReplyDeleteWhether the show turns out to be a hit or miss, I have to say that it was fun to listen to the excitement in their voices as they get their shot -- show #2, if I understood matters correctly (I was out of town last week) -- to grab the choice Saturday AM 10-noon slot.
Sam didn't come off as overbearing this week as he did last. Probably listened back to the show and realized "man do I sound like a know but all dick." Much better show this time around for those boys.

I thought Sam was the guy two weeks ago with him and Travis, aka "The Horsemen," but last week (which I didn't hear) and this was Travis and a different guy. I'm in the car when I hear this stuff so I don't write down all the info. Tim, is that the other "T" guy? Sorry, I should be more attentive to this stuff.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was an OK show, what I heard. It's hard for a team to find its voice right off the bat. So I tend to be on the patient side when a new team is trying to find its way.
I do agree with those who would like to hear a show with Justin Montemayor working it, but I have the feeling that we will be hearing from him again soon, and not just Tickers. No inside info, but I'm sure that this site is probably representative of what Jeff Catlin is hearing from listeners, which is that he is a favorite.
Listening to the Justin And Killer Experience ("the JAKE show") as they call it. I may have that "Experience" wrong, but it's something starting with "E."
ReplyDelete(1) Killer sounding a little relaxed, much better, really, than the last co-hosting I heard.
(2) Monte (or does he spell it "Monty"? I prefer the former, it's a more dignified, mature look, but want to do it the way he wants it. Maybe he'll let me know.) is always good, but freed from The Machine and allowed to lead the show, he's a revelation. Smooth but not slick, knowledgeable, and with that impossible-to-bottle gift of likability. I think his personal warmth makes Killer better. If the Western Hemispherical Catman is considering this as a permanent Sunday morning show, I'm willing to give it a real long leash.

ReplyDeleteI heard them say their names at one point, and there was no "Sam." There was a "Sam" three weeks ago. But I'm not saying you're wrong, I just didn't hear anyone self-identify as "Sam" yesterday on the Saturday 10-noon show.

ReplyDeleteDid you hear Monte's "sock" joke that stopped down the show this morning (Sunday)? I was out for a jog and I laughed out loud the instant he said it, but it took awhile to percolate into the show. It should make the E-Brake, but may be a little off-color for that buttoned-down segment.

ReplyDeleteI think we're going to end up seeing Country Force take the Saturday 10-12 spot. Eli and Ty seem to be the most experienced and have the best chemistry of the fill-ins I've heard. I think Monty and TBD (probably Mino) take the Sunday 8-11. I seem to remember there being a similar "audition" process when the Orphange snaked the belt. There were several weeks of various matchups before NaP was announced as the permanent replacement. My guess is Catman wants to see what he's got in case someone gets sick or is on vacation. That's why we've heard a few random shows.

ReplyDeleteIt all makes sense. I don't mind the musical chairs -- some talents have emerged we wouldn't otherwise have known about. I would also have guessed Country Force and a Monte-based show taking the vacant plums (Sunday 8-11 and Saturday 10-12). I might have guessed them the other way around, but one would be as welcome as the other. I thought Monte and Killer sounded pretty good today, Killer much better than previously. Mino -- fun, I'd be OK with that, maybe needs just a touch more seasoning. But maybe not. Need to hear him again with Monte.
ReplyDeleteI hope 405's scenario plays out. Sounds like a winner to me. I don't care who they pair Monte with, he's solid enough to carry the load. Besides, if he could take the assbeating that was "Machine," then he can handle any partner Cat throws his way.
