A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

PROGRAM NOTE: GEORGE'S HOTTEST EVER HSO -- RE J JONES -- 7:55 A.M. CDT WEDNESDAY -- LATER LATER LATER: REDHEAD AMENDMENT
Prediction: It won't be hot enough. Maybe George's hottest, but not hot enough.
LATER LATER LATER: Here's something hot, gay-ron-tee:
Prediction spot on, Psnoot. He let his emotions get too much in the way and wasn't able to make the argument as strong as it might've been. Luckily, a P1 sent in a strong to very strong good good email stating what Jub wished to convey, but only in a more cohesive manner.
I didn't mind at all that George, and then Junior, were hot under the collar and emotional. I kind of enjoyed a Muser change-of-pace on showgram temperature.
I was disappointed that, when you got down to what was hot about his sports opinion, it was that "Jerry is an embarrassment, his decisionmaking and love affair with bad-boy players is hurting the team, and the kids should take away the keys." That's not a new opinion or even a new opinion on The Ticket. Jerry's been mortifying the state and mismanaging the team for years. His Hall-of-Fame induction soils that institution, I don't care how much money he made the people who voted him in. He couldn't even get his stadium oriented properly. (By the way -- any of you Confessors enjoy watching games there? I hate the place but willing to hear other views. I do like the go-go cages, though.)
I was hoping George would say -- but not expecting him to -- that "I will not root for the Cowboys until Jerry surrenders control of the team" (note: he ALMOST said this once, but couldn't quite get it out) or "it's time for a public campaign for Jerry to sell the Cowboys," or "I call on Cowboys sponsors to sever ties with the team until Jerry goes."
Then you'd have something. And probably some mad sponsors.
But after all the outrage, it turned out to be kind of a TSO -- Tepid Sports Opinion.
My buddies and I are all in the late 30s/early 40s demo, many with wives and kids. We love the Cowboys and were in high school, early college during the mid-90s success. Our dads took us to games. Our grandfathers took our dads to games. Life happens and we don’t see each other as much as we used to. We made a decision in 2008 to stop giving Jerry any of our money (at least not directly) by planning a Cowboys road trip each year. Even with the exorbitant prices at the Death Star, we would rather spend three times as much to go see a game somewhere else rather than support that senile, ignorant prick.
The Cowboys are the only thing we have in Dallas close to the Yankees, Man U, Lakers. I understand why people hate the Cowboys. I love them but I despise the owner. I don’t know what discussions go on behind closed doors but, in my opinion, Charlotte, Stephen, Garrett and crew are as culpable as Jerry. I would be embarrassed to have that guy representing an organization I was a part of.
I’m some random guy that none of you would recognize on the street so I can tell you what I think. The buildup was over-hyped and certainly did not deliver but what do you expect? I can throw away my HSOs but people like Hanson go viral with theirs. Any opinion of Jub’s luke warm sports opinion has to be tempered by understanding the repercussions that he might feel that you never would.
Actually, Jub did say it's time for Jerry to give up his Owner/CEO/GM role. That's not tepid.

ellislives, solid takes there. But I have to say that the Cowboys are bigger than the Lakers and Yankees. We're too close here to see it, but it's true. While they're worth more money than Man U, they aren't quite yet to that status.
You're right, James, it's not a TSO per se, but it's nothing new, either. A local sports talking head protesting/openly rooting against/boycotting the Cowboys, specially one with the pull of Jub....now THAT would be something. By the way, this includes Dale Hansen. For all of Dale's oft times pot meeting kettle "this is the way I see it" displays of self-aggrandizement, he sure won't put his money where his mouth is (and for him, that means the Cowboys and that means Jerry). Now, if you wanna talk about bitterness from being let go by Jerry, Dale is your man.
It looks like I'm in the minority in Cool Metro on whether George said anything particularly astonishing. I guess where I'm led astray is that almost everyone I know already thinks this and has had it up to here with the thuggish management of the Cowboys for years now. You just don't hear it that much from the talking heads, and maybe that pushes the needle from TSO to HSO.
I listened to George's call-in on Intentional Grounding tonight. Nothing much new there, but it does seem like our George has touched a nerve.

ReplyDeleteYeah. Kind of more of the same. Wish I'd heard the P1 email. Maybe he's a Confessor, will republish here.
ReplyDeleteJoonz read it at the tail end of the segmo. Hopefully, the entirety of said seggy will be Top Tenned.
ReplyDeleteSomebody somewhere will declare that George is just mad because Jerry took away his PA gig.

FYI, on Wednesday, Cumulus purposely defaulted on a debt payment.
