I'm flat not going to make it this year. Usually I try to at least grab an hour or two of the least interesting time -- not long after opening on Friday -- but I'm not even going to make that this year, or at least that's what it looks like right now.
Get some snaps, men and women, and send them along to
ThePlainsman1310@gmail.com
I wish it were possible to post links and snaps to comments, but alas.
I'll be especially keen to hear how the "skits" ("Friday Night Live") go. I think it will be a difficult thing to pull off but I guess the lads have been working hard on it. Hey -- comedy is hard. Written comedy is harder. Performed written comedy is the hardest.
I wish The Ticket -- and y'all -- a wonderful TicketStock.
"I like the way Gordon says 'huh' alla time." |
Used to go to Plano, but I don't go to Irving.
ReplyDeleteI think that they have moved all of the spots to the Muser's show. They are overbooked on spots and other shows go un-sponsored ? I guess that they are trying to get every dime out of the only show they can. Speaks a lot about the true money makers for the the Ticket. There is only one drive time show on the Ticket anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis happens every year y'all. Several segments go unsponsored in the first part of the year
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think Shaggy's right. This will happen once in awhile. I don't think any of the shows are seriously wanting for sponsors.
ReplyDeleteBeen to all the Irving TicketStock's since close to my residence and just returned from this years.
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised to see how few sponsors in attendance this year, even less than last year. Alot of open space in that hall. No problem to see all exhibits in about ten minutes.
Also, despite prior advertising of "free parking", the city of Irving is asking for $8. Now Junior is saying "many parking options". True dat as I saw many just parking along the curbs in one of the streets.
I did notice a lot of ads imploring sponsors to call Alec Drake this year. And last year when I went, I had the same impression -- lots of wide open spaces, unlike some years past when there were rows of sponsors, lots of vendors to chat with.
ReplyDeleteI've thought about popping for a booth one of these years. Print up some shirts to give away to the first couple hundred visitors, hire some gingers to hang out, meet some Confessors, evade irascible Ticket guys unhappy with Responsible Ticket Journalism.
Anyone know how much a small booth would go for (not the display, talking about the fee to Cumulus)?
Having put on a number of medical device exhibits, it is never the registration fee that discourages vendors..it always boils down to the amount of sales generated.
ReplyDeleteIf attendance results in considerable sales, they always find the money in their marketing budgets to have a presence regardless of cost.
Maybe to many P1' just go for the TimeWasters, autographs, and the Ticket Chicks... just sayin..
I would buy a Plainsman T Shirt and cap however..and yes to the Gingers.
Since MTC is a zero-profit proposition, I assure you that the registration fee could well be discouraging.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be fun, though, no? A booth with no purpose other than to hang out with gingers and circulate a few shirts, meet some Confessors, maybe recruit some new acolytes.
And, as I say, hide from those who do not appreciate Responsible Ticket Journalism.
I'll give it some thought if the joint stays open. The UnTicket boys had a stand one year, although it was for their for-profit business.
Out on every round table that has Corby on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, 2:33. Insightful, instructive.
ReplyDeleteMusers skit. I guess this is funny?
ReplyDeletehttps://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=PGvfIdlutQk
Last roundtable. Makes me sad, but on a positive note: no more 21 Pilots TS song beating us into submission.
ReplyDeleteListening to Work in Progress describing "Friday Night Live" this morning. I'm having a little trouble distinguishing between the different skits as described by Justin and David, but sounds like there were some clever ideas. Again, Confessors, one of you will have to tell us what you thought. It sounds like a lot of the humor value is just seeing familiar Ticket performers doing unusual things or wearing unusual costumes, which can indeed be fun to watch and yuk-provoking. Just hard to tell from their account whether the writing and execution were good. Sounds like some of the usual junior-high Ticket smuttiness in some of the spots, which is OK if you like that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't tell from their account if they really thought FNL knocked it out of the park as a whole. They were positive about it, of course, but I thought I detected a little shoulder-shrug in their account.
As far as "Poydras" is concerned, wasn't it just what we expected? We were told it was going to be a one-word play, and I expected Gordon to be hollering "Poydras" in some kind of Beckett/Satre kind of way in a reality-free setting. No punch lines, but I thought it was acceptably satirical of a kind of experimental theater that thrashed us all in the late 20th century.
Too much writing by a guy who didn't see any of this stuff except for that "Poydras" clip (thanks, by the way, 1107). So lemme hear from you.

sirois' mr davidson was GOLD.
I was wondering with all of the big names falling because of the #metoo movement, how long until Gordon finally goes down. I mean love him or hate him, the guy has been a walking sexual harassment suit for years. He has just done under the umbrella of entertains the redneck masses. This guy should have to answer for all of the crap he said to Barb Smith alone, much less EVERYTHING else he has said to women on the record for years.
ReplyDeleteI know you will not post this Gordon, er ummm...I mean Plainsmen. But you should have to answer for most of what you have said over the years to and about women on the air.
Of course this is just between us.

Dear Anon Guy 4,
ReplyDeleteIf you honestly believe Pman is Gordo, you need to seek counseling, immediately.

Here's the entirety of FNL:

Dallas Observer article on Ticketstock.

Gotta tell you, that slideshow looks like TStock was incredible fun. Sorry I missed it.
ReplyDeleteI caught some of the late roundtables and laughed out loud.
Congratulations to The Little One on proving once again that they can't conceivably, ever, in any galaxy, do what it does.
And no, I am not Gordon Keith, although I would like to be.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to get really confused, try watching the FNL video on Youtube with the captions turned on.
ReplyDeleteDid we not have any Confessors hanging during Friday Night Live or some of the other TicketStock stuff? That is disturbing. Makes me think I don't have a strong P1 readership.
ReplyDeleteIf you were there, please review.
Not sure how much Ticket Stock actually costs Cumulus after sponsor contributions. However I second the observation there were very very few exhibitors, less than 20 by my cursory count. More open floor space than booths.
ReplyDeleteThis number is declining every year ..will TicketStock continue, or is it a loss leader and they do it just for 1310 publicity and hope a talent scout discovers the Time Wasters?
Seems pretty obvious to me that the boys are all dancing around calling out Mark Cuban because they don't want to risk losing access. Jerry pretty much shot them the finger when he moved the Fan so they don't care. They would be merciless if this were Jerry.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Dan who I thought would be the hardest on Mark Cuban was almost taking up for him today.
ReplyDeletePower corrupts and access is power.
TicketStock is dead.
I liked hearing Danny say, in short, "Cuban, you're smarter than this...you need to either make up something else or just not talk because nobody can buy this as an excuse." I audibly gasped when I heard Dan's response to Cuban's remarks, "Yeah, I can see where he's coming from." Huh?
ReplyDeleteDunno about you folks, but to me the AT&T HR woman came off as less than competent and even less than credible. When she called for a organization wide celebration of all genders, races, abilities, etc., I thought "does she even know why she was called in?" How about we treat everyone as equals, and just skip with the celebration.
ReplyDeleteWill somebody tell Corby that the "Streetcar" runs from Union Station to the Bishop Arts District and is not the same thing as the McKinney Avenue "Trolley." He would have known if he had read more that the headline of the story.
ReplyDelete@6:12 by all accounts that I've seen, you certainly appear to be in the extreme minority of those who believe she came off as "less than competent." I'm a little confused as to why you think she wasn't sure why she was hired. She directly addressed the reasons she was brought in and made definitive statements as to how and why that toxic culture will change. She was completely on point and commanded the room as if she had been doing this for years.
ReplyDeleteAnyone catch the musers political ads this morning? Pure genius. "Who else is gonna put Ford f150's on our breakfast table during the star spangled banner?"
ReplyDelete@ Anon 6:12
ReplyDeleteThere were plenty of things criticize about that presser. The first being why did Cubes even have a mic in front of him if he was going to get the back of his head slapped every time he tried to open his mouth? My cynical side thinks the whole thing was a bit of a ruse designed to show everyone that Mark is not in charge anymore.
Your comment is completely unfounded. Is she coming from a completely different industry? Yes. That’s exactly what Mark wanted. Can she break down a motion versus a flex offense? Never? You can roll your eyes at the presentation but a quick Google search provides more than enough evidence that she is “compentent”.
Mark was forced to take quick, decisive, borderline extreme action. Hiring a double minority to take over his business within days is exactly what he did.
What does double minority mean?
ReplyDeleteThe ads were very funny. But also very one sided. I'd like to hear a few poking fun of the NPR stereotype meets virtue signalling hysteria spots that some of our local candidates are offering this silly season.
ReplyDeleteIf you take heed of what BaD thinks, including Jake, 612's comment isn't so off the mark, after all.
ReplyDeleteI love that while I was listening to the musers political ads, right there on the ticket sports day App was a campaign advertisement for Bob Hall. On this ad you could find statements such as (cue Gordon's over the top fake conservative voice) "Cindy Burkett is a liberal!", "she votes with democrats!" All of this over a picture of a crying baby. Just as Gordon is issuing the line that the democrat County auditor wants to steal your babies and hand them over to al qaeda. YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP. It was simultaneously hilarious and sad.
ReplyDelete@12:22 Because there are very similar ads currently running on The Ticket. You won't hear a lot of Democrat ads in this area for obvious reasons. I heard one of these Republican Ultra Conservative ads very early yesterday morning, and it was so very, very bad. The spoof isn't far from what they're spoofing.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite line from the bit was:
ReplyDeleteQ: What does [disfavored candidate's name] eat?
A: Your children's dreams, wrapped in a tortilla.
Very funny stuff.
Hey, Confessors, sorry I've been absent. I've been out of town and slammed with work out on the plains. Hope to have a little something new up tonight.
Thanks for your patience.
I don't post much (but read every day!) but this Musers' foray into Beatles Bro' Country is absolute genius. I haven't laughed this much in a long time. Once again proves the other stations can't do what this talented bunch can do. My admiration knows no bounds. Greatness lives at KTCK.
ReplyDeleteSound like Dan is a bit sensitive that people are calling him out on being soft on Cuban. He needs to get over it. He has been very soft on Cuban and should be called on it.
ReplyDeleteI don't like that the lady that is the new CEO for the Mavs lies about knowing who Mark Cuban was...... it is a big deal to start off with a lie even if is just a little lie. Her "brand" as she spoke about starts out blemished.
Musers political ads reminded me of the days of Judge Softie spots
ReplyDeleteThe streaming on the ticket app is jumping back forth a lot today. Anyone else having this issue?
ReplyDeleteYes it was bad earlier but I think they fixed it.
