Confessors,
I know I've been absent a bit, and that is going to continue. I'm about
to hit the road again tomorrow, so to get a fresh thread started I'll throw out
two half-assed sportsy opinions, which faithful readers will know are never
likely to become fully-assed.
(1) Jason Garrett's job will be saved through at least the 2019 season by Guillain–Barré syndrome.
(2) We're burying the lede here on Dez Bryant's failure to find a job to his liking. Pundit after host after sportswriter has said "There are teams out there that Dez Bryant could help. Wonder what's going on?"
And while most of them do acknowledge that he's a difficult handle, this aspect of his problem has been downplayed.
Men and women: He was a real problem.
We saw it on "Hard Knocks," where he seemed to not be with the program, a headache in team meetings.
And what about those sideline rants? It has been pointed out that audio proves that he was being rah-rah, being supportive, not being a bad guy.
Well lemme axes you a question, as Craig "Junior" Miller would say. Make it two questions:
(i) If you were a seasoned pro like many of the Cowboys were in Dez's heyday, would you like a manchild screaming at you like a high school sophomore to get up, get up, get up, come on, we can do it, etc. etc.?
(ii) And would you like it coming from the guy who sneers at game prep, never ever learned to run a crisp route, didn't even seem to learn plays for the longest time, increasingly dropped balls, whined about not getting enough balls thrown his way, and generally didn't seem to care all that much about winning until the Cowboys were losing on game day?
Nope, I don't think Dez Bryant was a good teammate at all, and I don't believe any Cowboy who says he was.
And I think the league knows it and can't get very excited about giving much money to a guy who demonstrated during his entire career that he didn't get it -- receiving records notwithstanding. When the headache overbalances the gift as the years go by, it's hard to find buyers for a hot potato.
Half-baked or half-assed.

Because of injuries, Dez will be on somebody's roster by mid-season.
ReplyDeleteDead bang on. Oh yeah, if Nike really wants to be "brave," how about stop using child slave labor/ sweatshops in China to make your products?
ReplyDeleteGood point Anon 8:32 PM. Given the degradation of collective bargaining in the US over the past 30 years there are plenty of people willing to work in sweatshops in the US for roughly minimum wage with little to no benefits at a time of record corporate wealth, corporate cash on hand, profitability and virtually little in the way of any corporate tax liability due to the the huge corporate tax cut. Your point is good. Nike should pay their workers 8 dollars an hour here rather than 8 dollars a day in Asia. If the republicans can continue to convince their minimum wage base to vote against their financial self interest for another election cycle they might be able to sucessfully eliminate the minimum wage, cut social security and medicare. Would be the coup de gras of the war on the sub six figure crowd. God bless you all and God bless America, baby Jesus and dont smoke pot.
ReplyDeleteNice redhead by the way. Looks like a little touch of nippleage visible.
I think Nike is confusing brave and pussy-whipped.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you all the way, 1139, until you get to the partisan, caricature part of your comment. But, until that point, you and I are arm in arm.
ReplyDeleteAnyone besides me watch the Free4All with Doocy last night? Not bad at all. I wonder if all stations will be going to this kind of thing, separating sports from the rest of the news. If so, it's a good idea to do what Doocy's doing: making it clear that something other than sports might get discussed. Following the Ticket's lead, kinda like Grantland and the Ringer have done.
ReplyDeleteMissed it, but I sure hope it works out for him.
ReplyDelete@8:32 Anon
ReplyDeleteMark it. On September 5 Corby burned a segment to tell us (several times) that he "doesn't care" about the Nike endorsement. I'll be interested in seeing how many times during the football season that he takes a segment to remind us that he doesn't care.
I have not listened to the Hardline in a few weeks and tuned into E-News today and it reminded me why I stopped listening to the Hardline. Change is needed.
ReplyDeleteIs the hardline that bad? #makethehardlinegreatagain
ReplyDeleteMike needs to take control of the show but he won't.
ReplyDeleteMike is nearing 70. He is officially an old man. He is not going to take control of the show. Get that out of your head. The Hardline is what it has become. It will not change until Corby is gone. And by the way, barring a F up of quite some magnitude, that change will not occur for at least 10 years. At least.
ReplyDeleteWow, Cowboys pre-game is going to be David Newbury and Sean Bass. I can't imagine anything worse.
ReplyDelete@302
ReplyDeleteOne hundo correct, madame/sir.
@117
Newbes rocks the bells when it comes to the Cowboys. Seabass, yeah at times he can a beating when he gets sustained airtime. But being paired with Newbes will rein him in. His sports takes are solid. It's when he gets all sanctimonious about socio-political stuff that he becomes a beating of the highest order.
@1:46 I like David Newbury a lot, but I can't imagine listening to Sean for the length of a pregame show.
ReplyDeleteMan, Newbury's voice is a tough listen even for one segment
ReplyDeleteNah, I'm going to be fine with Newbury and Bass. Sean gets a kicking here from time to time, but I like him. I remember only very litte socio-political stuff, and it was pretty muted and brief. Just don't understand the anti-Bass strain among the Confessors. Nope, I like Sean Bass just fine, and David too, and I'll be happy listening to that as pre-game show.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, The Fan's pre- and post-game coverage has caught up to The Ticket's in recent years, so I can't guarantee I won't surf a bit.
@3:02
ReplyDeleteMike and I are the same age and my employer still gets a full 8 hours out of me. Of course, I don't have to worry about band bookings when I should be working.
But I think we have found a way to get Mike more engaged in Corby segments. Just talk about Longhorn suckage.
I hate the Foo Fighters. Thanks Kurt.
ReplyDeleteI punched up the hardline yesterday and the first thing I heard was Corby saying foo fighters. I got out immediately!!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the maiden voyages of both the Cows pre and postgame lineups. From this site to the reddit page to TC, Seabass gets kicked in the balls on a somewhat regular basis. I'm not sure why, but he does. He and Newbury were very good. It was nice to see them respectfully disagree with each other on certain Cows issues, as well. Jake and Donnie were solid as a rock. Jake's homer angst is coupled with his deep football knowledge is refreshing. Donnie stepped up his game from previous years. Perhaps that's a consequence of Norm's departure--that he feels a bit less restrained/a need to be so deferential and careful with his thoughts? Whatever the case, he led the show and did so admirably.
ReplyDeleteWas on an airplane during the pregame period but caught the postgame and agree: Donovan and Jake and Junior were excellent.
ReplyDeleteMy Cowboys pre-season prediction was 7-9 so I was surprised that Junior was predicting 11-5, at least before yesterday. All divisional rivals seem to have improved, but hard to perceive any Cowboys upgrades, other than retain and add some young pieces that might blossom down the line.
So buckle up, buttercups, this could be a rocky ride.
If L4 guy does not win emergency brake of the week for the joke he told today they just need to end it. However, I can see Cat not wanting to have it go out over the air again.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
Anyone else aware of the situation with Raegor Dykes Auto? Quick search of Raegor Dikes and you will find that Bart (boom baby) has gotten himself into a little trouble. Wow.
ReplyDeleteNot that we needed scientific evidence of this, but a P1 has proven Corby's overtalking dominance.

Man, Koko the Gorilla is the biggest beating in the history of the Ticket. The inability to let go of a bad bit is the worst thing Gordon does. Worse even than fishing for bear traps.
ReplyDeleteJust another example of how Gordon has given up and how useless he's become. His bag is empty.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how you find the pics of the redheads but they are absolutely wonderful.
Look at Corby's responses to the tweet posted by Texas Hammer. He is aware of the problems but he doesn't care. He has turned his mic hogging and lack of segment prep into bits.
ReplyDeleteWe've said it before but it bears repeating -- Mike could change things if he wanted to, but he doesn't want to. He likes Corby, he likes his content and attitude, and he likes sitting back.
ReplyDeleteWe can slag Corby for his mic-hogging and aversion to show prep, but Mike -- and, alas, my leader the Western Hemispherical Catman -- bear primary responsibility for the sound of that show.
And they seem to like it.
And . . . they're blessed with weak competition at that time slot.
russ martin and ben and skin are far from weak competition.
ReplyDeleteOf course Mike likes it. He's getting paid a wad of cash to do formatics and occasionally glance up at Corby from his MacBook.
ReplyDelete"I want that job . . . . "
Maybe I have to check out Russ Martin -- don't know his show. But Ben & Skin -- sorry, can't agree. When I try to punch over, the fake hilarity is worse than anything the Hardline throws out.
ReplyDeleteIt remains weak competition.
P-Man -
ReplyDeleteIf I'm in my car Russ Martin is my first button push after WTDS. Just be aware that he has been having some medical problems and he is absent about as much as he is there. So there's about a 50-50 chance that his crew is doing the show without him.
I have to cut Russ a lot of slack because this is the guy who felt so threatened by competition from the Hardline that he stole Rhyner's trash looking for dirt he could use on his show.
Russ Martin sucks. And he likes to beat up women so that's another mark against him.
ReplyDeletei am from USA, i am here to give my testimony how i was cured from HIV, i
ReplyDeletecontacted my HIV via blade. a friend of my use blade to peel of her
finger nails and drop it where she use it, so after she has left i did know
what came unto me i looked at my nails, my nails were very long and i took
the blade which she just used on her own nails to cut of my finger nails,
as i was maintaining my names, i mistakenly injured myself. i did even
bothered about it, so when i got to the hospital the next week when i was
ill the doctor told me that i am HIV positive, i wondered where did i got
it from so i remembered how i use my friend blade to cut off my hand so i
feel so sad in my heart to the extent that i don’t even know what to do, so
one day i was passing through the internet i met a testimony of a lady that all
