A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

I've Been Away
and not able to listen to The Ticket (even streaming) or post. Thanks for your patience.
Team Morning Drive 5:30-10am: Captain Corby Davidson Donovan Lewis Jake Kemp Bob Sturm Sean Bass Team Middays 10am-3pm Captain Junior Miller Gordon Keith Julie Dobbs Danny Balis Norm Hitzges Ty Walker Team Afternoon Drive 3-7pm: Captain Dan McDowell George Dunham Mike Sirois Mike Rhyner Mike Fernandez
Where are all the confessors? This place has gone radio silent. 2019 will certainly be the year Jake becomes Tier 1 IMO. I think Norm will announce his retirement to take place circa May 2019 at which point he will become Radio Hall of Famer emeritus that the Ticket rolls out for special events or brings on for opinions on big events.
Norm either a) announces his retirement during the last hour of the Normathon or 2) announces his retirement during the last hour of Ticketstock.
As said above, retirement will take effect sometime in the Spring of 2019.
Also as said above, he comes out and is the "special guest" for the NFL draft and a few other events over the next year or so. Maybe an appearance or three with Doocy on Fox4 as well. After that, he's a pop-on phone guest here and there to comment on breaking news but eventually fades into retirement.
I'm not sure what happens to the 10-Noon slot. Jake needs to find his way into the daily rotation, but I don't feel the Shake Joint could carry a daily show. More likely, I would see:
Musers until 9am Jake and Donnie - 9am-Noon Bad Radio - Noon-4pm Hardline - 4pm-7pm
There are a couple of issues that I see with that lineup - mainly that the shift change for AM and PM occurs during the end of morning drive time and the beginning of evening drive time. But, I think that the Musers and Mike are probably due to shorten their daily load. (Corby gets the benefit of a shorter shift by being Mike's little buddy.) Maybe the shift change blow is softened by crosstalk at 9am and 4pm.
If any of this becomes fact, I'm a freakin' Ticket savant and an in-the-know insider. If not, you get what you pay for.
I think that as much as I would like to see the Hardline move on they are not going to until they receive some real competition during their time slot. I think that if 105.3 would move the G-Bag Nation to the 3 - 7 timeslot they would win the ratings war and changes would be made.
Norm is going to retire, Donnie is better as a 3rd maybe put him with the Hardline and Jake would become the official 3rd member of Bad Radio.
Instead of the Musers retiring what if they agreed to continue working but wanted the best timeslot in the world, go old 10-2. Move Bad Radio to morning drive and let the Musers enjoy sleeping in as they have earned it.
Listened to the WED draft this morning on the podcast and I really like that format. Have captains do their not-normal shift and have them pick teams. This was a good twist this year. Fernando doing tickers is going to be radio gold.
The one problem with all of these scenarios which have the Musers being shortened, or moving to middays and being replaced by BAD Radio, is the business angle. You are going to take the highest rated, highest grossing show on the station (Musers) and replace them in morning drive (the most important daypart) with the lowest rated show on the station (BAD)?
Bad decision, coach. The Ticket would never, ever do that. Remember, it's a business.
If BaD is actually lower rated than Norm/Donny its only because of the lead in from the all powerful Musers. I would have to think if BaD took the 10-12 or 10-1 timeslot they would blow away the ratings of Norm's current slot.
The worst thing that ever could have happened to It's Just Banter podcast - TC becoming an Uber driver and his weekly accounts of his passenger experiences taking over the podcast. It has gone from top notch podcast content to countless minutes spent on his new Uber adventures. I'm out.
My premise on moving the Musers to 10-2 is that they are getting ready to hang it up and retire, this would be a move to keep them on the station for a few more years.
Right now Bad Radio/Norm and D are the only shows up against true competition. Bad Radio would be able to thrive in Morning Drive against National Shows.
And I am telling you those guys arent going to give up a 750k+ salary in their early 50s because they have a little sleepy eye in the morning. They are off work at 10 am and take adult naps. They are fine. Moving to 10 to 2 would probably be a bigger upset to their systems as they would still be getting up early to get prepared and then hanging around all day like a regular job. No way no how.
The Musers will be done at some point but more likely 5 to 10 years from now or when the station goes away or when one of the 3 passes on to the next plane.
BAD and Norm and D are the only shows that have competition? Are you crazy? Every station in the market puts their best shows in morning and afternoon drive, because, well, it's morning and afternoon drive!! The Musers and HL have the toughest competition, by far. Remember, the shows on the Ticket are trying to be number one in the market in their time slots against ALL stations, not just number one among the three all sports stations.
If you did away with the 10-noon shift what would that do to morning and mid-morning drive numbers? They would be competing with the other stations in a time slot to time slot comparison instead of split shows.
How many years has it been since Mike's "let's just say" drunken ramble? I'm wondering now if he has decided to wait out the Musers so that he's not the first to go. It's not like this is hard work. He just opens his Macbook, brings in the Cobra, and cruises to 7:00.
I'm sorry, but I kind of skimmed over some of the comments, but is BaD behind NormanD in ratings? I'm a huge fan of Bad, but admit that I've been switching over to Stephan A some...maybe a little more often. I'm usually out on all the weekly interviews i.e...Joel Klatt, Tyler Seguin, even Sean Lee. I don't listen to THL enough to really even comment anymore unless Rhyner may have some topical event to discuss, or DaC's Steve Dennis starts to get to me. Usually, any extended listening to Corby's cluelessness [or that nerve-grating fake laugh] has me grinding my teeth.
Six weeks ago, Rhyner hilariously said he would take Bortles over Dak Prescott. I don't think Dak is the long-term answer, but that line almost made me pull my hair out. Then, after the Atlanta game (not the Thanksgiving Redskins win - the Atlanta game!) Rhyner said he would take Dak Prescott over Matt Ryan. In a span of about four weeks.
And yesterday re: Mavericks "I've been thinking alllll along since the start of the year...I haven't said it...but I've thought it....that this is a playoff team." Danny rightfully called him out for it. Okay buddy.
Well, I'm being asked by the website to login via social media or create an account in order to listen to the stream. Hey, Ticket, Fuck Off and see ya. Fix this shit, Cat. If not, bye bye forever. Data selling motherfers.
I am not sure about Dak not being the long term answer. Not everyone can match Tony Romo's record of 2 playoff wins in a decade. At least he will always have Cabo.
News? Ticket hold onto your butts news? Or MTC news?

Why poor Mino?

ReplyDeleteGordon on his Twitter: Time to retire Chris McKinley
ReplyDeleteYa think? That was unimaginative, awful.
ReplyDeleteJust saw the pre game show where they're doing the whole ft worth stockyard cowboy bit! Ol Corby's going to have a nervous breakdown! Lol!
ReplyDeleteAnybody still listen to the HL? I've sooo moved on to Brett Baier on FOX News on Sirius or ya know, anything else on Sirius.

ReplyDeleteAlong with Chris McKinley, I nominate his other gay and gay-ish characters, Carlton Maxwell and The Youth Minister, as ready for the door.
ReplyDeleteSecond the nomination....

ReplyDeleteI'm getting the same thing. Started this morning.
