A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Not Breaking, and Not All That Newsy
A Ticketish source who has been reliable in the past reports that all hosts are under contract through at least the end of 2019. I don't think that's necessarily a new thing -- no recent re-ups, to my knowledge.
Just saying that, barring some personal misfortune, no lineup changes for the next year.
And now, for the hottest rumors on dramatic lineup changes for the Texas Legends . . . .
In expiation for this being a crappy post, extra reds today.
In promoting Norm's commentary on the pre-game, Conrad referred to Norm's nose as a "probiscus."
ReplyDeleteReally liking Sean Bass's and David Newbury's pre-game. Ari Temkin and Jesse Holley give them a run for their money, though. I switch back and forth but stick with The Ticket for the most part. David Moore also excellent.
ReplyDeleteNewbes rocks the house.
ReplyDeleteI really like Jesse Holley too, pre and post.
ReplyDeleteI wish GBag held the Ben and Skin time slot. That way I'd listen to BaD then switch over to GBag. Two best sports showgrams in DFW radio.
ReplyDeleteBig announcement tomorrow morning; probably announcing Ticket Stock.
ReplyDeleteMike put out on Twitter that they are trying to get anyone and everyone who has been associated with the station to TS this year. Someone asked if this included Greg The Hammer Williams. Rhyner's reply was "Everybody means everybody".
I usually make it to TS on Saturday afternoons but if anyone and everyone is going to be there I may have to make it a 2 day event.
ET P1
Norm out sick again, 3 days in a row now. Seems like he's missed a ton due to sickness the last few years. This is in addition to the seemingly endless amount of vacation he takes
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Norm's semi retirement announcement is on the horizon. Semi, as in he'll host the NFL and NBA drafts, host a specialty show every now and again, and perhaps join the Cowboys pre/post from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThe announcement probably pertains to the 25th anniversary. I imagine a super spectacular event marking the occasion.
While everyone drools at the return of Greg Williams might an appearance by Rocco Pendola be even more explosive? The subject of his leaving is approached from time to time but we have not heard much of the time after he left. Did he not take some shots at the station and some of the players in the years afterward? I'm sure we will see or hear from Kurt Menefee in some fashion. I doubt Skip Bayless has the time to show up. If he does, could we negotiate a deal for fight night between him and Troy Aikman?
ReplyDeleteRocco eventually made peace with everyone at the station, including Rhyner.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know that. Cool.
Wow, pretty tense this morning when Cuban said he wouldn’t have agreed to the in-studio Musers interview if he had known they were going to ask about “the investigation.” He was a stand up guy about it as far as admitting he didn’t place any restrictions on the questions ahead of time, but still. And then after the break SeaBass missed his ticker for some reason, and then they recapped the interview and talked about how surprised and uncomfortable Cubes was about the questioning. What an odd but entertaining chunk of radio.
ReplyDeleteThe major station announcement was the 25th anniversary of Ticketstock. Going back to the Plano Center and the title sponsor will be Texas Motor Speedway. Can probably expect one of the TS guests to be a gearhead.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with a gearhead. Tony Stewert or a number of other drivers would be a good guest.
ReplyDeleteIf every former ticket personality, including Rocco and Chris Arnold, etc, show up, great. If the picture remains an incomplete one because Skip doesn't show up, then I'm perfectly fine with that. Really. Words cannot express how OK I am with Skip's absence.
ReplyDeleteRhyner also made peace with Pete Stein...from 5-4-3-2-and you're done infamy.
ReplyDeleteThe Dax Shepard podcast with Gordo is now up. The existence of Gordon's wife and family is confirmed. So that's exciting.
ReplyDeletemichrod is just so dang cute
ReplyDelete@ Colorado P1
ReplyDeleteAre you saying MichRod has a voice made for TV?
My longtime Tickers peeve is how they find the most generic audio to fill up some time. Today, around 7:15, they did it twice in the same ticker. They actually had a Cowboy, followed by a Star, say something along the lines of "We just have to take it one day at a time; We just have to execute better."
ReplyDeleteSeriously, who in their right mind thinks that any listener regards this as interesting audio? I'd rather hear blank space for 20 seconds than hear a player or coach making boring statements about executing better.
Killer reading essays. The worst bit since fishing for bear traps.
ReplyDelete@ellislives: that’s exactly what I’m saying

Mud?
ReplyDeleteI rarely ever listen to the Sirois make a mess of things on Saturday afternoons but I had it on and heard the plans for the upcoming white elephant day.
ReplyDeleteI really do enjoy them mixing things up but the idea that this was somehow just conveniently dropped for them to make one and a half segments about is laughable.
I also noticed the three people that will be picking sides are Corby, Craig, and Dan. Two people that would likely be chosen last in either sports or radio. And the third a guy that will be chosen first by everyone.
I also noticed they eliminated the coveted 10-2 spot. That was always one of the funnest segments to hear somebody try and keep afloat by themselves. Assume they're saving that for the In Memoriam segment for Norm that should be coming soon. I really do love the guy. I used to listen to him with my grandfather on KLIF and doing Rangers broadcasts on HSE back in the day. After hearing him wind down so badly on the Norm-a-Thons the last 2 years, he just needs to hang it up.
Jake is absolutely killing it on the Musers this morning. His observations on the Jones family are outstanding. Come on Catman - its time for the late great Norm to retire and finally give Jake one of the Tier 1 spots he has earned.
ReplyDeleteWhat did we think of today's WED draft?
ReplyDeleteThe profiles on the White Elephant draft were clutch. Nice Job Sam Hale.
