A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

A Few More Quick Hits
(1) This is not the STD I have planned.
(2) The Ticket must not be selling out its ad space on the stream. Getting lots and lots of that cheesy synth filler where, presumably, there should be commercials.
(3) For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why anyone would call a business "Mr. Store." Improved automotive audio reveals that if you have fire/water damage, the entity to call is "Mr. Restore."
(4) Does Jake seem a little cranky lately? Must not be getting sufficient sleep with the new little one.
(5) I get an icky feeling when advertisers try to make you think that they're big P1s, or include other Ticket references, like the commercial referencing "Norm The-Mozart-of-E-Brakes Hitzges" At least, unlike George and one or two others at the station, they pronounced his name correctly.
(6) Musers showgram had an odd sound today without Becca or Sean. I didn't hear why they were absent.
(7) I'd be interested in a study on the percentage over time of the Ticket broadcast day dedicated to sex/gender-related matters. Speaking of icky-feeling listening.
Thank you for your patience.
I'mmildly concerned about the age of today's redhead
ReplyDelete'Mr. Restore' is even better when you hear it as 'Mystery Store'. Who knows what you'll find there.
ReplyDeleteP1 alert, Mr. Restore is better of left a Mystery. Commiting fraud is not who I want to be associated with which is what the owner, Clint, did recently.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2016/03/11/carrollton-home-builder-who-committed-fraud-gets-3-years-probation.
Didnt mean to highjack this thread, Confessor, but I had to warn P1's when I saw this.
Come on Surly,
ReplyDeleteIts just Children's stuff
Surly, seeing it now on my big-boy computer, you may have a point. Although image came through the usual channels.
ReplyDeleteAnd the major station announcement is . . . .
ReplyDeleteJubJam
I'm realizing why I don't listen to Hardline anymore!
ReplyDeleteDo you ever notice that some people seem to have heads that are disproportionately small for there bodies? Two examples that make me think this every time that I see them are Dan Henry (Fox4 weather) and Jake Kemp.
ReplyDeleteJust saying....
I find that am using the app to skip more and more of Gordan Keith's segments. I listen for a little while and then when Gordan starts to go down a rabbit hole that I do not like I just skip forward to the Musers next segment. So much better than sticking it out just because.
ReplyDeleteRe: the last thread and ETP1's take on The Warriors". That came out while I was in college. It went to cable pretty quickly because of the controversy surrounding it's release. We watched it every time it came on. The great James Remar as Ajax - "I'll shove that bat up your ass and turn you into a popsicle." Great scene.
ReplyDeleteAlso - check out George Dunham in the movie trailer "This World Won't Break".
The way hardline had this immediate "death" segment, I anxious the hear who had passed. I thought it was maybe T Boone Pickens. I'm sorry for the man's passing and it sounds like he was huge, but I have no idea who Dan Jenkins was.
ReplyDelete8:46: I still like Gordo. The one bit that is getting old is the "um, a person died in Plano and you're still laughing at the previous thing we were just joking about." They're doing that daily now. It was funny the first 2 or 3 times.
ReplyDelete4:15: Did you listen to the segment? If so, you may have learned something about Jenkins.
I'll admit, I didn't know who he was either. The first segment was a death-death-death bit. He doesn't really have all that much Wikipedia content. He was a big golf guy, so that's probably why Corby was all over it.
ReplyDeleteIf you've got firewater damage.
ReplyDeleteIf you grew up in DFW before the advent of sports talk radio, writers like Dan Jenkins and Blackie Sherrod were gods of sports journalism. Mike did not exaggerate his legacy.
ReplyDeleteAmen, 1158. Amen, brutha.
ReplyDeleteJames, this is anon 4:15pm. (Got a 415 am and pm) l listened and learned. It was just that Corby and Mike was carrying on like he was another Howard Cosell or something. But certainly respects to the man. I've lived in Dallas 35 years, and always liked Blackie, Galloway, Luksa, and others, but was not familiar with Dan's work.
ReplyDeleteThere are not a lot of things I automatically punch out on during the Musers but the fake Michelle Wie is at the top of that short list.
ReplyDeleteDitto !!!!!
ReplyDeleteKiller Essay: Worst. Bit. Ever.
ReplyDelete@3/12 9:30 PM
ReplyDeleteGuhgree. Immediate punch out.
I like the Killer essays. As long as Killer is willing to mortify himself, I'm good with the bit.
ReplyDeleteSorry to see Cole Beasley go.
ReplyDeleteDidn't he leave training camp, quitting the team, when he first got to the Cowboys? Did anyone ever find out what that was all about?
Beasley said he was dealing with some personal issues but I don't know if it's ever been revealed what those were.
ReplyDeleteHeard the GREATNESS of Greggo on a commercial on ticket. Died laughing! He's still got it. Bring back Greggo...get rid of Corby!
ReplyDeleteThe replay of the April Fools Open shows what a fake that Corby is. Jub starts laughing and Corby has to join in each time and pretend that he is laughing so very hard. Corby could not even see the action as he was not on that hole. He just has to show that he is so very cool and has to have the "camera" on himself.
ReplyDeleteHey, 1131, Gavin is looking for you. Better get back to your cube.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is a space rocker band?
ReplyDeleteAre we in for an award winning St. Patty's Day broadcast from Gordon, Dave Lane, and Balis tomorrow? Those were the days BRO!
ReplyDelete11:31
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with you. A real gut laugh has to be organic. Most people can’t laugh on command and when they try to OR it’s forced becomes completely evident. And Corbles does it often. Just sayin’
I see the subject of Corby's fake laugh has surfaced, and it's about time! I can not even listen anymore once I noticed that. I started noticing it at the end of Concert Calendar, when the do the made up bands [can't think of the "something lounge" name], but it's NEVER funny, and Corby just fake laughs his ass off! MY GOD is it annoying!
ReplyDeleteToday's 1:30 News will go down in history
ReplyDeleteSeriously Surly, that was nuts. Julie and Mino seemed super uncomfortable and tense about what was going on. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come as far as a deteriorating relationship because I really like Jake on BaD.
ReplyDeleteSurly & C P1 - I never listen to BaD because usually in meetings or some such. But took a late lunch and was eating in my car and I heard this. Because I am an infrequent listener I just chalked it up to the guys "doing radio".
ReplyDeleteHowever, I did think it was kind of tense. Did this all start because Dan and/or Bob called Jake a country music expert or because of the "sex with his mom" comment.
BTW, anyone going to be at Rockwall Powersports tomorrow for the Hardline remote? I am close so planning on sneaking out of work around 4:00 and catching some of it before I head back to East Texas
ET P1
It was good radio, but I don't think this is the beginning of the end. These guys will get under each others skin from time to time, but it blows over. Remember the famous argument between George and Craig ("we don't even do it anymore"; "I want that job"). Now if there starts to be a pattern of animosity between Bob and Dan and Jake, that's different. But I don't think that's where this is headed.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are some here who would love to see this fester awhile and eventually end up in a Danny/Jake swap. I'm not sure I'm ready for that rodeo.
ReplyDeleteReally Hardline? Can't come up with a better segment killer than someone crapping your pants?! Seriously not funny guys!
ReplyDeleteNobody cares about President high gas prices hitting a hole in one, and most people doesn't know or care he lives in Dallas!
ReplyDeleteThere's a Facebook group called "1310 The Ticket" or somesuch thing. The link is https://www.facebook.com/groups/2209609978/
ReplyDeleteNot unlike the MTC comment section, I see a lot of negative comments about Corby. I have noticed he gets a lot of facts wrong, and he has a habit of insisting that his political beliefs should be shared by everyone. But it's not like he's actually doing any harm, or doing anything that affects anyone's life in any way. I mean, he's just a voice on the radio. If he does a terrible job, it doesn't affect you in a way that should anger you. If the guy who fixes your car or the one who makes your sandwich does a bad job, then you should be angry, because it does some measure of damage to your life. But a voice coming from your radio speaker on your drive home....I dunno. Seems to me there's not much that voice can do that should derail my wife in any way, so I don't see why some folks apparently have their blood pressure raised when they think about Corby's latest segment.
I have made my peace with disliking the Hardline. I believe that they suck, are out of touch and just don't care about the quality of their work.
ReplyDeleteThey are very much like the Cowboys. People over the last 20 years can bitch about them and say they suck but so long as you are talking about them, going to the games and watching them Jerry will keep doing what he is doing. The same goes for the Hardline. If you want changes the only way you can make change happen is to change the station to make the ratings go down.
I check in once in a while but most of the time I just change the channel to something else. It is good to be in control.
The app is great for control because I find that I am fast forwarding past most of Gordan's segments and whatever else that I don't want to listen too.
I always heard to call "service store" if I had firewaterdamage
ReplyDeleteAmen to all of that, 729am. I even find myself skipping the 840 bit on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteNot me. I still enjoy Gordo, except for 8:40.
ReplyDelete7:29 and others
ReplyDeleteYou can always go somewhere else for your sports talk. The incessant Corby bashing is getting as old to many of us as Corby's left of center rantings are likely getting old to you. If not sports talk there is a plethora of right winged talk radio over at 570 am and 820 am where you can hear non stop right wing echo chamber stuff. I recommend you get a large dose of that every day to help offset any left leaning sentiments that might have corrupted your godly minds.
Anon 6:18 AM is dead on. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteDear 3/22 6:18 AM:
ReplyDelete"What we have here is a failure to communicate." The problem, at least for most of us, is not that he is left-of-center. In fact, as he is involved in the media most assume he is out of the gate. The problem is that he and The Black Cloud regale us with the superiority of their opinions and belittle and otherwise ridicule those that might have a different opinion. THAT, as they say, is the problem.
Except you wouldn't care about that if their opinions coincided with yours
ReplyDeleteDear Surly,
ReplyDeleteThis is the same commenter as the one immediately above...
I assure you that would bother me as well. Anyone that is condescending to others and belittles opinions that disagree with theirs bothers me. I realize there is no way to prove this to you as you don't know me (at least as far as I know), and taking the word of an anonymous stranger on the internet basically doesn't happen. All I can do is hope you take my word for it, which undoubtedly you won't. And I don't blame you. But I am comfortable with just presenting my side. That's all I can do.
Have a good day!
Hello, 618am and Surly. Is it possible for one to criticize another without said criticism being politically motivated? It seems for you two, not. That says more about you than those you criticize. Indeed, it's circular, and shows you both to be shoddy thinkers. But that's what usually happens when the principle of philosophical charity is abandoned.
ReplyDeleteNo, MTC is not dead yet. I've had a few changes in my life and am scrambling. But the liveliness of this thread -- as little as I like political talk -- is inspiring.
ReplyDeleteIs that Facebook site Ticket-sponsored? I'll need to check it out. If that's a good forum, does the world need MTC? It's a question worth pondering. Of course, I think the Reddit site is pretty good, too, but we're still sputtering along here.
Patience. Thank you.
Someone on Twitter described that FB group as "Stormfront Ticket", FYI
ReplyDeleteokay, correction, there's another FB called "1310 The Ticket P1s" that is apparently nazi-friendly
ReplyDeleteMTC: that site does not appear to be Ticket-sponsored. Be sure to use the link in my comment, as there may be others with similar names.
ReplyDeleteSurly: No, I would care about Corby's superiority complex if he happened to line up with my politics. As has been said, it's his attitude about his ideology that's the problem.
But to be clear: it doesn't bother me that much. some are so bothered by Corby that his presence on their radio actually results in anger. That, I do not understand.
Plainsman: You make your life changes sound negative, and I hope that isn't the case. Should it be the case, I hope it all works out for the good.
ReplyDeleteAs for going elsewhere, this plain 'ole blog is easy to access without the overhead or cruft of FB. I like the tight little group here. I know it extra work for you, but just know it's appreciated.
Oh, and @James: Well Said!
ReplyDeleteAlso a Well Said to March 22, 2019 at 9:54 AM
ReplyDeleteAlso also Well Said to March 21,2019 at 7:29 AM
ReplyDeletep.s. Hope things are getting better Plainsman.
Hey 7:23, if you're tired of Corby's liberal politics and anti-Trump rhetoric, just do what I do: after WTDS, I switch over to Russ Martin. It's a much better show than the Hardline, which has become "Corby/Danny know everything, Rhyner collects a paycheck".
ReplyDeleteSince Cowboys season is over, I catch myself doing the "3 station rotation". I'm all ESPN during the season, and still mostly do listen to ESPN. My problem with Hardline today is that I simply don't find their subjects discussed very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was that you couldn't stand Corby
ReplyDeleteI second what Anon said. MTC, you, and this site, are appreciated, and I come here just about daily. Hope you life changes, whatever they may be, are not overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteHear! Hear! Hope everything is well in your world, Plainsman. And here's to many more years of your most excellent and most gentlepersonist of a blog/forum.
ReplyDeleteI'll repost what I've said before regarding listening to the Hardline.
ReplyDeleteI don't anymore. They are what they are and that's not going to change.
If you're done with them for , go and drag out that old iPhone that you tossed into a drawer - you know, the one with the cracked, but still usable screen - and wipe it. Load the latest iOS and download Overcast. Install the old device in your vehicle somewhere.
Find yourself some good podcasts that you can enjoy on your evening drive. If you're lucky like I am, your wi-fi signal will stretch out to your vehicle and you'll automatically download the new episodes as they come out.
I'll start you off with a few of my favorites:
Criminal
That's The Way I Heard It (by Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame)
99% Invisible
Thinking Sideways (no longer being produced, but lots of episodes available)
Every Little Thing
The Mortified Podcast
There are literally THOUSANDS of podcasts available. Some of them are pretty bad, but many of them are professionally produced and pretty entertaining. You'll get tired of Blue Apron and stamps.com commercials, but Overcast has a customizable skip button that will allow you to skip past most of them with a tap or two.
Namiste....
Anon @12:53 - -
ReplyDeleteI also like to listen to Russ Martin. But it would be nice if he was on the show from time to time.
I have been listening to more BaD lately, but missed the Jake/Dan (?? or was Bob involved too?) blowup. Can someone provide detail on the cause and what took place?
ReplyDeleteOn the new "Friday 69 Line" (the non-Cowboys Friday version of the Crow Line), someone made reference to Jake's "baby audio" as somehow being involved, maybe also country music.
Thanks for the kind wishes and nice words. Life changes have been positive, but time-consuming. I actually do have an STD to tease you with, but you may have to put up with some additional quick hits before it appears.
Pdog I would like to know based on your humble opinion, how the dying medium of radio played into Jack's meltdown.
ReplyDeleteWould need to hear the thing. Does UnTicket have it? In any case, need detail of what it was about and who said what to whom, to the best of the Confessors' recall.

ReplyDeleteMarch 19
Unlike The Musers, BaD Radio doesn't cover up their tense audio
Background:
ReplyDeleteMonths ago, (on January 29 to be exact) BaD Radio was talking about who was performing at the Super Bowl and Bob brought up Travis Tritt and other 90s country acts, who played in 1994. Jake talked about how that was sort of the peak of the popularity of country music. Bob got in his grill and challenged the notion that Jake was in to country music at that time. Julie and Mino set them straight at how pretty much everyone who was a kid at the time who grew up in Texas was listening to country music.
Listen to the 130 News from 1/29/19 for the source audio for all of this. It's on the bobanddan website.
Ever since then, whenever country music comes up on the show in any capacity, Bob and/or Dan make a big display of how much Jake loves country music and that he's the show's country music expert. They even had a segment soon after this initial revelation, all about 90s country music to see who knew the songs and artists more, Bob or Jake. Which was silly because Bob didn't know them at all and obviously Jake did. It was obvious Jake thought the whole segment was a bad bit.
While many people think Jake's being a big baby by getting upset about how often they bring up his "Country Music Expert" persona, I think it's clear that he simply thinks it's a lame joke that interrupts the flow of the show every time they do it. So he's bothered as their producer, not that he's personally offended.
So there you go.
And he blew up? People yelled at each other?
ReplyDeleteI suggest listening to the audio
ReplyDeleteJake also disclosed that he and his friends still listen to it via "County Music Saturdays." It was that aspect of the "revelation" that got everything rolling. Surly left that key part of the story. The fact that Jake has gone out of his way to position himself as the station rap authority, works next to Bob and Dan for years now, is close friends with them, and yet somehow this has never been brought up.
ReplyDeleteWork in Progress replayed most of it this morning (Sunday).
ReplyDeleteSurlz, for once you may be right about something. Let's see, I said that I didn't listen to Hardline because I didn't find them interesting. And since Corby kind of runs the show and the segments, so, I guess I "don't" like it because of Corby! So, you're right. I guess it's true...even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then.
ReplyDeleteI see our this site's old friend Kevin Turner is writing for The Athletic (Dallas flavor).
ReplyDeletehttps://theathletic.com/884466/2019/03/25/zach-allen-is-a-versatile-athletic-defensive-lineman-will-he-catch-the-cowboys-eyes/
Nicely done, KT.
Wasn't it nice to listen to an engaged and active Old Grey Wolf this morning? Granted, I haven't listened to The Hardline in a couple of years so things might have changed, but it really seemed like Mike was interested in talking and had some valid things to say during the Rangers Roundtable.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that on the rare occasion Mike takes the lead on a segment between 3 and 7 he gets drowned out by other voices in the room.
ReplyDeleteHe's always more engaged on other shows. That's the OGW we want but almost never get.
In case you didn't hear, Mike is doing the open for the Rangers' opening day broadcast.
Fox Sports Southwest opening day featuring Mike Rhyner.

Plainsman, I won't feel butthurt if you delete this, as it's way off-topic.
ReplyDeleteKnowing what I know about the demographics of the regular commenters here, I'd like to share a site I found a few weeks ago. It's become daily reading for me now. Stereogum assigned a writer to do a review every workday for each single which hit #1 on the Hot 100, starting with the first one in 1958. The reviews he writes are great, but the comment section is better. There's a little subculture which has developed in the comments section. He's up to early 1973 now (You Are the Sunshine of my Life was posted today). Some songs, as you can imagine, get loads of comments (You're So Vain), but many of the comments are about the other songs which were in the Top Ten that same week. I've learned a lot. If you are interested in music history, it's a blast. https://www.stereogum.com/category/franchises/the-number-ones/
Thanks @James. I'll definitely add this to my daily browsing rotation.
ReplyDelete@James
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sir, that looks fascinating.
