Mildly amusing to see the once ubiquitous Jake love beginning its inevitable turn towards the sour. While not off the charts (yet), what was once limited to the very few and far between has grown commonplace. Comes with being Varsity, for certain. But there's also something to be said for being on-air 3 hours, 5 days per week--week after week--and not merely taking your shots when you see fit, letting the game come to you, and being given specific tasks. Content creation is different from being a part of the content. And Jake doesn't appear to have very thick skin, so there will come a time when things might get interesting where social media is concerned. It's always the one who yells "How could X do Y when X knows Z will happen if Y?" that eventually commit's Y, and does so in spectacular fashion.

BTW, seems like this thing (MTC) has finally pooped out. Too damn bad. But all things must end.

  2. Hopefully, with the Campound coming back there will be content worthy of comment.

  3. OK. Comments about Gordon's show Saturday night?

Not his best effort. Definitely Rant Light.

  4. Dan made a comment today about either Clay Travis or Buck Sexton having once "been jobbed around during contract time." He paused, then, and said something to the effect: "Huh. Imagine that." And moved on.

    1. In August 2014, Clay left his sports radio job with Cumulus Nashville because while the city's top rated sports program, he claims he was offered a raise which equaled $20/show.

Recall that BaD Radio had their contract issues with Cumulus and their overtures with CBS Radio in the summer of 2013 and came to terms with an announcement at Summer Bash 2013.

  6. No, don't bring up those two Saturday spares. Who is the troll that starts this and then says everyone on this forum is racist just because we don't lick the balls of the great JJT?

  7. Dan commiserating with a Nashville sports talk guy over Cumulus is so inside baseball

  8. Isn’t Clay Dan’s brother in law or something like that?

    1. I recall that as a possibility as Dan mentioned it around that time. Plus, Clay's wife was one of two who replied to a Dan tweet in 2012.

This, plus any further Dan comments, are likely where we both thought it was not a bit.

  9. Dan sees in Clay his own possible (and very real) near future. You see, the I can't believe this is my life dream of a job/lifestyle is coming to an end for radio talent from all corners of the landscape. Has been for quite some time. Only now, it's (finally) coming to this market. Dan's (rightfully) scared shitless--so too should they all--as he was the only one in the game of Rhyner Musical Chairs who wasn't given a promotion. Jake became a member of the Varsity; Bob was moved to THE prime slot (Corby was already there, nowhere for him to go but down); but Dan, naw, he was told "you're good just where you are, bud."

Will Dan get Clayed? No idea. If you think it's a nonstarter, nonsense, hyperbole, bullshit.....fine, you're welcome to your opinion. But you'd be wrong. Listen to Dan. He's telling you just the opposite. He's worried. If you like, on the whole, your Ticket as currently constructed, so should you.

Of course, an would like to get Clayed now. He won't and can't. Dan doesn't have anything of that much value.

Clay's Outkick was bought by FOX earlier this year for $300M, which also was the catalyst for his new radio gig. Clay also left Cumulus to have his previous "sports" radio show in iHeart and syndicated at the same time Bob and Dan were willing to stay with Cumulus in 2013 when the stock was in their first of a few financial messes. Every host's contract had to include stock shares which are worth little, especially the reverse stock split in 2016.

Moving to CBS in 2013 would have been better financially or BaD Radio, but since CBS later sold to Entercom, it's hard to detail how much loyalty means since radio audiences have dropped in the last decade. Being #1 in 2021 does not mean as much as it did in 2017, less 2013, or later in say like 2005. The revenues are not there and Catman's refusal to fully podcast shows, unlike other Cumulus clusters have for a decade, have further hurt the Dallas cluster and monetization.

If the Travis/McDowell relationship via marriage is not a bit, Dan could work for/ith Clay Travis, but in no way could he be akin to being Clay Travis.

  11. lol y’all should try listening to the ticket sometime. Dan has detailed the story many times. It’s not a bit.

  12. So, good for Dan, his sister married well. Dan can always fall back on his Hitler fascination and impersonating Andy Reid at Super Bowl media day.
