A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."
Many of you probably have Your Plainsman pegged as a hopeless dilettante. Not so. I am a hopeful dilettante.
My second book of fiction should be out in a few weeks, and there will be a Christmas novella in October.
But that's not important now.
In addition to the books, I have been co-writing songs with Nashville musician (he does it all) and producer BOB McGILPIN.
He has recently released our first collaboration. It's called YOU I LIKE. (Bob performed and produced the cut; I’m not on the record, just the co-composer.)
I'll just say it without all the false modesty to which the Confessor has become accustomed:
It's great, a real gutbucket roadhouse country _____kicker. People who have heard it want to hear it again. Not just my mother, either.
You can listen for free here on Bob’s Reverb Nation page:

It’s the first song on the list.
Listen to it through buds, cans, or some decent speakers, but by all means, CRANK IT.
There is a remote chance it might get picked up for some C&W radio play, but it’s very difficult for independent artists to break through without touring and endless promotion efforts, neither of which Bob or I can undertake. But we’re hoping the coolness of the song might attract some industry ears.
If you know a plugger who might be interesting in repping this (for pay), or a program director who would give it a listen, let me know.
Took in a few listens. It's not my type of music, but I can see it getting some run in the line-dance, shit-kicker, cow-disco clubs. IMHO needs a different vocalist; perhaps a younger sounding voice; and for certain, a more over the top twang to it. For better or worse (I say the latter), subtlety no longer sells--especially where paint-by-numbers-short-lived-"hot hit of the summer of '__" tunes are concerned. I don't intend paint-by-numbers as a dig, not at all. But, look, the song is right out of the book of early rock/country/boogie templates, and it follows the directions to a t. Nothing wrong with that. The world needs those songs.
I will say that you discussing the tune and posting it up evinces some light on why you're still maintaining MTC (after having said your farewell many months ago). Makes sense. You have an audience here. Albeit a small, niche audience, it's an audience. And an audience that does, from time to time, include those who (Ticket personnel) might maybe just like what they hear and, well, as Chris Arnold is wont to say "Ya nevah know." More on your books here, soon, as well? Why not? I would. Why wouldn't you? The days of P1s bombing your Amazon profile or reviews are long gone. Per the kids: Just sayin'.
Thanks for sharing the tune. You seem to be a man of many talents. Good on ya, Pman.
Is JaM Session out on Sundays? Eli and I believe DJ filled in the spot yesterday. Off the top, DJ (if that wasn't him, sorry) said something like 'If you go by what's online, it's pretty divided on what P1s think about Jam'. That kinda blew me away. You never hear a host say things like that about another show. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear then or any other time during the show that JaM would be back next week or why they weren't on this week. Checked out JJT and Matt's Twitter pages and neither said anything about being off this week for Father's Day or any other reason or anything like 'see ya'll next week'.

Thanks for giving it a spin.

Good on ya, P-Man. I like it. I wish I could point to something like that out on the world and say "Yeah, I did that!"
