A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Belated Congratulations to The Ticket, AM-FM-Stream, on Its Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters for Major Market Station of the Year
REMINDER: "ANONYMOUS" COMMENTS AND THOSE I FIND GRATUITOUSLY INSULTING, INCOMPREHENSIBLE, OR JUST GENERALLY ANNOYING WILL BE DELETED IN MY SOLE AND UNREVIEWABLE DISCRETION.
I appreciate the offers to assist me in creating a site where I can manage comments more effectively, probably by requiring registration. That would certainly do the trick, but although the trolls and post-modern stylists and non-readers are annoying, I think I'll keep MTC as is for the time being.
Two reasons:
First, I'm lazy. I know Blogger is a primitive platform that has actually gotten worse over the years, but I scarcely have time these days to fit in a hobby like MTC. I try to swing by once a day to check comments, and despite my good intentions, I myself don't get much new content up any more (or hadn't you noticed?).
I took a swing at WordPress, but found the process so annoying that I quickly abandoned it.
Second, I really do not want to make it difficult to comment, even anonymously, even stupidly or inappropriately. Yeah, it's annoying to read troll-droppings and even more annoying for me to have to go through and delete them. But even a more restrictive comment environment is unlikely to stop incomprehensible and hyperbolic commentary.
But thanks for the offers. If I change my mind, I'll know where to go.
It is certainly possible. However you do understand the skepticism don’t you? If you were to line up the last 30 years of ticket broadcasting, where would you rank the last year in terms of quality of broadcasting. You certainly wouldn’t rank it #1 would you. Does anyone legitimately think that the invasion is better than the last 20 years of norm, or the sweets spot is better than the last 20 years of the hangzone and BAD radio. So if they never won the Marconi in the last 30 years, it seems pretty suspect that they win this year, when most everyone agrees that the quality of product is weaker.
Latex69 and The Sexpert, do you guys think that the invasion and the sweet spot are better quality radio shows than norm, BAD radio, and/or the hangzone? If so cool, but I have literally not seen anyone in the last year say that. They’ve said they’re ok, they’re improving, etc. but I haven’t seen anyone say that they think they are better than what was on ticket middays previously. I would like to know if think the new midday shows are actually really good. Honest question.
Look at the historical data. This "anyone" you speak of consists of your redditor buddies. A small, vocal, minority. Just. Stop. You don't like it, fine. Nothing wrong with that. But stop stating your subjective opinion, "buttressed" by a handful of likeminded opinions, as fact. It's not. Lemme guess again. You "believe in science." If so, and again, the historical data (readily available for your perusal) does not bear out your opinion. Not in the least. So follow the science.
I think what you're saying is possible, but what I would say is more possible, is the amount of shrinking good radio stations left combined with the ticket probably always being good enough to earn reward, they just finally did it.
Ugh.....Haven't chimed in for a while, but this comment by "third eye" is what is causing such eye rolling with this place. "We all know...." is just another troll post here. At this point all the bitter posts are just silly and tiresome.
That's right, Jimbo, keep it up. Ignore the facts. Current 10-3 numbers track right along with their predecessors. What do you think that means as regards popularity (i.e., people enjoying the programs)? Seriously, how thick must you be? It's like some sort of epistemic blind spot. Take a course in basic critical thinking at your local community college--assuming such things are still offered. Better: grow up.
They don't care about you. When it all goes away within the next year - year and a half, they'll leave you standing in the middle of the road, all alone, micropeen in hand, pinched like never before. You will be the puppet. Methinks you have an uneasy, sneaking suspicion that you already are. The Hive tries way too hard to convince others of fictions. A tell tale sign of rationalizing, of the futile search for the justification of faerie tales.
with the Jerry silliness yesterday it got me thinking about TT's promos that have regularly poked fun at the TF for being under the Cowboys' thumb. I've heard them and wondered if it was unnecessary shot taking, but today not so much.
the exchange with the TF AM show did prove the point, especially later in the day when Jerry doubled down in his self-defense in the Athletic interview: "But the facts are that if I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying."
Completely disagree. Others on the Fan and across the Audicy network came to a more vocal defense of their brethren than the Musers this morning where George basically sounded like a Jerry apologist. Junior and Gordon seemed a little puzzled by George’s non caring response to the Jerry stupidity. In perusing both stations the last 24 hours many on the fan were more harsh on Jerry and the Cowboys than the Ticket with exception of Bob and Corby who weren’t having it.
easy tiger. you failed to picked up on the fact my comment was not a knock on TF personalities, as I think we can all commiserate with the no win position they're in - and that is the point.
By being the Cowboys flagship, what happens yesterday is Jerry squashes the conversation. Now, everyone can create their own conspiracy over how much/how little TF discussions and willingness to be critical are determined by that relationship.
but my original point was connecting how I was initially dismissive of the TT poking fun promos, and how they turned out to be on the nose.
where I will disagree w/ you is George sounding like a Jerry apologist, but that just sticks with the reality in radio that "listeners hear things differently."
I haven't heard it in the last couple of weeks, but I think the most annoying ad on the Ticket is the land sale guy who sounds like Mike Bacsik and feels the need to yell at us when our radios are like a foot from us.
I’m going to fire off a few comments in a row here. First, I hate to burst the Plainsmans bubble, but there is zero chance that advertisers are changing ads based on comments here, Reddit, etc. I don’t currently sell for Cumulus, but in my current job if I pitched an advertiser to change spots based on some blog I’d be laughed out of the room. Most direct response clients have some method for tracking response rates. They change copy when response rates fall. C
Re Jimbo et Al’s comments on Marconi voting. The Marconi submission is an audio file accompanied by ratings info, sales info and community service work. While it could be that the voting panel, a random assortment of radio people from across the country COULD be voting for TT based on a lawsuit response, it’s much more likely that they’re looking at the submission info. And when they see that the Ticket has spent the last 2 years dominating their target demo (men 25-54) but also often topping the overall ratings (6+) . All while raising a boatload of money for special Olympics, At last boarding, Austin Street shelter, etc. and I saw somewhere that the Tickets been nominated almost 20 times in the past 30 years. They may not be as good as they once were, but go to a radio remote and spin the prize wheel. Sooner or later you’ll hit the jackpot and win the good prize. C
Knob- I think there’s a segment of the listening community who think that the Fan can’t or won’t be as hard on the cowboys because they are the flagship. Need I remind yall that Dale Hansen was once on the broadcast team and was fired because he ripped Jerry and Barry? Those guys know if they ever go full Rhyner “this team SUCKS” that they’re going to get pulled into an office and discussions will be had about partnerships, positivity, and productfullness. It’s why guys like Micky Spanola or David Moore tend to “this team has a lot of room for improvement” versus “this is just a bad team”. Good ratings buy you some breathing room, if Dunham and Miller were on the flagship they’d probably get a little more wiggle room with their 12 share then The Fans morning show with their 4 share. C
Jerry has a history of this. He tried the same thing with Randy Galloway when he was on WBAP and we all witnessed his battles with Norm. Rhyner being the vocal leader of the Anti-Cowboys faction while KTCK was the flagship station is part of the reason he didn't re-up with the station. He fired Brad Sham after the season he fired Dale because of some remarks he made before the last pre season game that year. That was when Brad went to KRLD and the Rangers. He has stewed about every media member that has stood up to him. Will The Fan stand up or cower down?
I’ve been a Cowboys fan since gaining sports consciousness. They were something my dysfunctional family could come together and bond over. I’ve always thought Jerry was funny: a hick from Arkansas wearing a toupee and worth billions in Dallas. This is central casting . This is JR Ewing writ large. Total nonsense, but in the end just a clown.
The way the Ticket guys reacted to what he said and doubled down on. They’re telling us a lot without telling us. They’re saying it isn’t funny. It isn’t cute. He’s a major league asshole. He’s destroyed the franchise. He and men his age who act like they are beyone reproach (not getting political, but wink wink) are a serious problem. They’re psychotic . They’re little. They’re old. They’re dying. They’re finally realizing something most of us came to understand at some point : you aren’t bigger than death. It’s flat out gross. It’s not funny. It’s car salesman clown shoe garbage.
Sorry but while I’m at it : republicans act as though Reagan walked on water . And democrats act like Clinton walked on water. Reality : they were both five-star , blue chip recruits for Asshole University. They destroyed the lives of anybody — including family — who got in their way. I don’t know why we keep heralding these motherfuckers . And Jerry is right there with them.
Actually , “20 Eyes” and whatever that means , is right. I won’t apologize . Jerry is an asshole. Dick DeGuerin is an asshole. White shoe attorneys are assholes. Talking about suing somebody ? You’re an asshole. Lawyers are assholes. Politicians are even bigger assholes . Anybody who listens to these assholes are assholes.
I apologize in advance if this is common knowledge. Jerry Jones and his family are from the same tiny town in Arkansas my grandfather is from. I would assume Jerry grew up either as a Baptist or a Southern Methodist. But his father realized one day that all of the town's businesses shut down on Sundays. This is / was common in the South: folks go to church, have a pot roast, etc. Jerry's dad ran a grocery store, or something to that effect. And he realized he could get a leg-up if he were to convert to Seventh Day Adventism (because the Sabbath is recognized by that particular group on Saturday, not Sunday). Which meant, under law, he had a right to be open on Sunday--when everybody else was closed.
That's the kind of guy Jerry's dad was. That's the kind of guy Jerry is. To change your religious affiliation solely to make a profit.
PMan, can you please tell Helzberg Diamonds to pull the commercial where that sissified guy tells his future wife Amy that he loves her multiple times? I can't take it. Thanks!
How long does JR have left? He said this summer after they went on a long dry dock, that he wants to keep doing this a while, but has to take some time off because the early mornings are starting to wear on him/them. That makes me think that he isn't just going to retire this year or something, he will just quiet quit for a while where he's off a lot I guess?
2 years from now when his daughter is about to start school. Gordo hosts his own show that is guest oriented for a couple more years after that. They all team back up at some point in the post Ticket future and host a popular twice a week podcast
I'd love to see a graph on the evolution of Gordo's characters. There has to be a point where they peak and then become progressively more and more absurd to the point of being a beating. Dr. Maxwell being a prime example. This may also be a case of familiarity breeding contempt and I'm just tired of some of the characters. Gordo's a comic genius don't get me wrong but I'd love for him to create some new characters rather than going back to the well on some of the older ones.
There would be a definite shift on the chart after Nipplegate. That is where things really seemed to change. That was when the Overcusser and a couple of other characters went away.
Every Gordon character has an evolution. It starts as the germ of an idea. It evolves into a recurring character with a set of standard bits. Then Gordon gets board with it & it progressively becomes more manic and absurd to the point it becomes tiresome to the listener as he tries to amuse himself.
Every character has its fans. Every character has its detractors. I don’t listen to the 8:40 but these days unless it is Fake Jerry, Fake Tiger or the Ticket Mouse. Sometimes Chris Chris. Most of the others are a whip to me now.
Really do hope this foot-in-the-door Mavs show leads to a bigger, permanent gig for Jake Z. That way he can finally stop suffering thru Cowboys games on a livestream, with a room full of spares.
Kabuki Theather. The whole lot of it. It's already dying. Your little plot of land. Its soil. It's not so fertile. No immediacy. Even when live it's more about the fact that we're live, shouldn't you be grateful -- rather than this is what we do, we're here for you, always. The fawning will soon end. So too will the zealots lose their vanguard-like vigilance. I'm sorry, cubs. They don't care. I've told you this for well over a year now. Perhaps, maybe, soon you will finally get it.
Longest dead air I've ever heard on modern radio. 96.3 off air too. I'm glued to the station just to see what happened. One would think I have something better to do.
DZ boot lickers, watch’s gonna do when they turn on you? Cuz they will. In the form of The Man wouldn’t allow us to succeed. Just like those bettin’ on themselves Freakoids did after they lost their bet.
No worries, my babies. Rick n Roll never forgets, and so too will all day parts be waiting for your return. But in the interim, try not to give away too much of your income to The MidLifeCrisis, and always remember: They don’t read any of this. Not once. No no no no never never never. I know, my heart breaks for you, my babies. The desperation is palatable. So real, yo.
Sorry man. No one’s paying attention to you. After three tries, it might be time to move on. Bad bit. But that’s OK. A lot of bad bits here, so you’re amongst friends.
Afternoon Jub is the most awkward segment on the station all week. You can tell George doesn’t really want to be doing it. Monty, Sean, and Mino constantly trying to one up each other to be the one to make him laugh. None of it is funny. Unsubscribe.

Why so a mean mean, PGrackle? Sheesh. Can’t a girl express himself round here without gettin’ all hassled by the man and stuff? This place be so woke! Whatevs. Guess I’ll turn in my findings to The Boys and be done with it. Thought this might be a suitable home for The Hive. Turns out it’s inhospitable. What’s a DF to do? Greener pastures U guess.
I’m so glad we had this time together. Just to have a laugh and sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you know it. . . . Comes the time we have to say, “So long.”
Well, kids, the day has arrived. It’s been a long and at times arduous journey. But we made it through alive. Yes there have been bumps and bruises along the way, but anything worth doing will take a part of you with it. And so it is here that I bid you all a sweet farewell. I’ll truly miss each and every one of you. As well, going forward you will find these comments sections far, far less populated (sorry, Plainsman).
Parting is bittersweet. Don’t look back in anger, some say. I shan’t.
I agree. Anyone who has been fired from The Ticket is a loser and should have no attention paid to them. Lets focus on the ones that ARE here and actually have talent!
I am going to enjoy so much when Trump screws over his middle class supporters with Tariffs and gutting of public education. Make a dumb electorate dumber, again
Overall advertising sentiment remains weak due to economic and interest rate concerns, impacting spending in key categories like automotive and financial services.
Political spending was lower than expected in Q3 due to the change in the Democratic presidential candidate, affecting both sides' advertising budgets.
Podcasting revenue experienced a modest decrease, primarily due to declining revenue from The Daily Wire podcast.
Total company revenue is currently pacing down slightly for Q4, indicating ongoing challenges in the advertising environment.
Despite cost reductions, the uncertain ad environment necessitates continued focus on managing expenses while investing in digital growth.
Congrats to Sean and Mino for carrying their big bags of nothing over into WTDS, making it unlistenable. 10-1 has greatly improved - these 2, not so much. The ratings will continue to drop.
Monty, is by far the highlight of the show. I think if it was the OG WiP I would enjoy it more. Sean drags it down for me. They are mostly harmless though, good for having on while working when I can't really pay close attention to what is being said.
If Anon's accusation about someone on here being Gordon Keith was aimed at me, know this: once a month, my paystub proves that I am not anywhere near his tax bracket.
I mean it's kinda true. Plainsman doesn't post content about the ticket, and commenters don't really post about the ticket anymore either. and the weenie pincher guy

DeleteI'd love to see a graph on the evolution of Gordo's characters.
ReplyDeleteYour graph is corrupted by the introduction of political correctness.
DeleteThere would be a definite shift on the chart after Nipplegate. That is where things really seemed to change. That was when the Overcusser and a couple of other characters went away.
DeleteEvery Gordon character has an evolution. It starts as the germ of an idea. It evolves into a recurring character with a set of standard bits. Then Gordon gets board with it & it progressively becomes more manic and absurd to the point it becomes tiresome to the listener as he tries to amuse himself.
DeleteEvery character has its fans. Every character has its detractors. I don’t listen to the 8:40 but these days unless it is Fake Jerry, Fake Tiger or the Ticket Mouse. Sometimes Chris Chris. Most of the others are a whip to me now.
I still love Carlton Maxwell lol. Randy Cody feels like a slightly newer one in the grand scheme of things?
ReplyDeleteRandy is over 10 years old
DeleteJake & Machine have a weekly Mavs YT show - - they are piling on bits but I'll take this content over TDZ--
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/OQzBoY1XmRY?si=d7it4TvhdJsWElQJ
Machine may be a good creative behind the scenes person, but he is just the "tries too hard" guy on the radio or on camera.
ReplyDeleteFind someone as loyal as Mark Followill is to the Mavericks. Good God what a puppet.
ReplyDeleteYou're the puppet.
DeleteFollo is a great broadcaster but his hardline segments are unbearable. The dude REALLY loves the sound of his own voice.
DeleteFollowill was painful to listen to yesterday. Shill.
ReplyDeleteNo puppet
ReplyDeleteJake and Machine. So the side projects have already begun. Doo di doo di doo di. Jeffweee Dahmaaah.
ReplyDeleteWon't be too much longer now. Then whatcha gonna do?
Jake has had side gigs for the entirety of his broadcast career
DeleteThis time, it’s different. Trust me.
DeletePlease tell me why
DeleteReally do hope this foot-in-the-door Mavs show leads to a bigger, permanent gig for Jake Z.
DeleteThat way he can finally stop suffering thru Cowboys games on a livestream, with a room full of spares.
ReplyDeletejust keep moving the goalposts until you're right, scro
Delete“Moving goalposts.” Nice try, Amateur Hour.
DeleteWork harder. Get better. Then bring it. Until then. . . . Yo. You just another NP boot licker. Well, micropeen, on the tipper is more like it.
Sorry, skippy.
Another weirdo trying to sound like Mike Rhyner
DeleteIt is the height of irony that they start using the No Puppet name right about the time they turn into revenue grabbing puppets
ReplyDeleteKeep doin' what you do playboy, and keep grabbing that revenue ok?
DeleteIs there a worse spot in Ticket history than the JJT "sexxxxxeee"? Discuss.
DeleteJJT is the definition of no talent ass clown
DeleteLongest dead air I've ever heard on modern radio. 96.3 off air too. I'm glued to the station just to see what happened. One would think I have something better to do.
ReplyDeleteNo Puppet Productions is in better financial condition and has better equipment than Cumulus Media
DeleteNominations for Emergency Brake of the Week are closed.
DeleteNP boot licker.
DeleteThe wrong 2 hours of the station got knocked off.
ReplyDelete#1to3. #but. #idontknow.
Why you so jelly, scruh? Dem ratings keep inching up. More inches den you got. Fo sho.

ReplyDeleteWhat are your top 10 moments from The Sweet Spot from the first year of their show?
DeleteWhenever they have Jub on it's somewhat listenable.
DeleteAll of em. Equally.
DeleteDZ boot lickers, watch’s gonna do when they turn on you? Cuz they will. In the form of The Man wouldn’t allow us to succeed. Just like those bettin’ on themselves Freakoids did after they lost their bet.
No worries, my babies. Rick n Roll never forgets, and so too will all day parts be waiting for your return. But in the interim, try not to give away too much of your income to The MidLifeCrisis, and always remember: They don’t read any of this. Not once. No no no no never never never. I know, my heart breaks for you, my babies. The desperation is palatable. So real, yo.

lol you don't even listen to the sweet spot
Delete“lol”? What, are we stuck in a particular crack in the space-time continuum? I think we are.
DeleteGonna have to do better, skippy. You hon’ bring it, then bring it. Gotsta be this high to ride the ride, little man.
the fact that an adult male's hands typed this message proves we need to be nuked
DeleteSorry man. No one’s paying attention to you. After three tries, it might be time to move on. Bad bit. But that’s OK. A lot of bad bits here, so you’re amongst friends.
DeletePay no attention to that all-time low price on CMLS. About to lose compliance with NASDAQ listing rules (again, again)
ReplyDeleteTime for another reverse stock split!
We won’t. We don’t. So why even bother? Yo.

DeleteHard to believe the no life troll hasn't found something more interesting to do yet.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe how long the dude has lived rent free in your kitchen.
DeleteA birthday during WTDS today said, Corby, Sean, and Matt were his leaders. So they’ve got fans lol.

DeleteAfternoon Jub is the most awkward segment on the station all week. You can tell George doesn’t really want to be doing it. Monty, Sean, and Mino constantly trying to one up each other to be the one to make him laugh. None of it is funny. Unsubscribe.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteEvery time I hear it, Jub seems to be enjoying himself. But people tend to hear what they want to hear.

DeleteStars game preempting The Sweet Spot on Friday.
ReplyDeleteWeek. Ruined.
I guess Plainsman finds all of these comments to be completely comprehensible.

DeleteWhy so a mean mean, PGrackle?
DeleteLates, ya’ll.
I’m so glad we had this time together. Just to have a laugh and sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you know it. . . . Comes the time we have to say, “So long.”
ReplyDeleteWell, kids, the day has arrived.
I shan’t.
Well...BYE.
DeleteAMF.
DeleteGlad to see the www.myTheFreak.DumbZone.blogspot.com has quelled. The fetishizing of fired Ticket employees was getting scary,
ReplyDeleteI agree. Anyone who has been fired from The Ticket is a loser and should have no attention paid to them. Lets focus on the ones that ARE here and actually have talent!
DeleteWho got fired? Fahy?
DeleteDouble agree. Can't wait to read Plainsman's longform article about The Sweet Spot
DeleteThe Sweet Spot devoting a segment to them critiquing other broadcasters....this would be hilarious if it actually was being done to purposely troll.
ReplyDeleteI was sad to hear Gordo relay the news that Monty has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Eff Cancer!
ReplyDeleteThis news breaks my heart. Don’t stop fighting, Monto. We all have your back.
DeleteTrump victory was so delicious. Cruz elected with the Cancun vote. MAGA!!
ReplyDeleteI am going to enjoy so much when Trump screws over his middle class supporters with Tariffs and gutting of public education. Make a dumb electorate dumber, again
DeleteOverall advertising sentiment remains weak due to economic and interest rate concerns, impacting spending in key categories like automotive and financial services.
ReplyDeletePolitical spending was lower than expected in Q3 due to the change in the Democratic presidential candidate, affecting both sides' advertising budgets.
Podcasting revenue experienced a modest decrease, primarily due to declining revenue from The Daily Wire podcast.
Total company revenue is currently pacing down slightly for Q4, indicating ongoing challenges in the advertising environment.
Despite cost reductions, the uncertain ad environment necessitates continued focus on managing expenses while investing in digital growth.
iHeart Dallas cuts aren't as deep as other markets, but Patrick Davis is out after 20+ years and the guy they brought in to PD KEGL is out as well.

ReplyDeleteSo is Cumulus Media Inc
DeleteDead? There were comments posted four days ago, skateboardman. Maybe find a way to occupy your attention span for more than one week.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Sean and Mino for carrying their big bags of nothing over into WTDS, making it unlistenable.
ReplyDelete10-1 has greatly improved - these 2, not so much. The ratings will continue to drop.
Monty, is by far the highlight of the show. I think if it was the OG WiP I would enjoy it more. Sean drags it down for me. They are mostly harmless though, good for having on while working when I can't really pay close attention to what is being said.

ReplyDeleteAND HEADHUNTING IS A COWARD
DeleteIf Anon's accusation about someone on here being Gordon Keith was aimed at me, know this: once a month, my paystub proves that I am not anywhere near his tax bracket.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve been wrong already. How about packing it up?
DeleteI mean it's kinda true. Plainsman doesn't post content about the ticket, and commenters don't really post about the ticket anymore either. and the weenie pincher guy
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Trump 2024 witch trialesque accusations begin. Anyone else you want to accuse of ?
DeleteMatt Gaetz and Matt McLaren would get along swimmingly
DeletePoor, do less. No one thinks you are Gordon.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else getting a little annoyed with Gordon burning so many full segments on mountain lion talk?
ReplyDeleteOh, good. Zulu is back. What we’ve all been waiting for.
ReplyDeleteGeez, Corby asking a recovering alcoholic (Joel Klatt) if he’s slamming beers. Such a low life
ReplyDeleteNew post up.
