Short Refresh: Why the Obsession with Claiming former Ticket Guys are Trolls on this Site?

161 comments:

  1. What's the point? There are a couple of claimed culprits I don't know -- please stop using initials -- with one exception I like all the former Ticket guys. I'm flattered that they think this site is influential enough (it isn't) that they are making some kind of useful point by posting here.

While some claim to have positive proof that one or another commenter is one or another former Ticket guy, it's usually by reference to some Twitter BS that remains undisclosed, and would, in any event, be circumstantial. You got some goods on who's who, let's have 'em.

SITE REPORT: I agree with those who have noted that the comments on the site have sunk to pre-warning levels. However, for the time being, given my schedule it's easier to plunk DELETE COMMENT than to review comments in advance. That could change.

I have no plans to discontinue this site, and, in fact, my Ticket listening has increased lately, so hope to have some STDs (Scorching Ticket Disquisitions) for the site in the near future.

To answer your question, along with certain reddit folk (including the admin BK Harmony who has trolled MTC from its early days), there absolutely are ex-Ticket employees trolling this place. I know because a many have admitted to it either directly or obliquely. You'd be surprised how many public names engage in the pettiest , lowest hanging fruit of online behavior. Most do it anonymously, some don't. While never being my kind of guy, I will give a tip of the hat to Sam Hale for actually using his name whenever he's thrown in his two cents. At least he owns his stuff.

  4. You may well be seeing more "mature reds." There are many AI fakes in Google image searches for comely redheads, but they tend to be younger women; I try to avoid them. And you'd be amazed that I've used up hundreds of non-AI images of gingers that are available -- it wasn't long ago I accidentally repeated one.

I'm hoping to cast my net a bit wider and keep it real, y'know?

Seriously, in what world does any Ticket listener even think about Sam Hale anymore, let alone care what he has to say or whether he’s trolling here? If he’s actually posting here, why would it matter? I don’t get why anyone would even care enough to be bothered by it. If he ever even registered on listeners’ radar in the slightest, it was a long time ago.

    3. @nDaC: Not sure I understand your point. I'm trying to reduce the non-substantive content here consisting of many comments opining that some Confessors are former Ticket guys, which implies that those commenters continue to care a lot about what guys like Sam Hale thinks and does. And I was agreeing with @Your Dollas and Sense Minute that investing all this commentary about a guy who had a cup of coffee with The Ticket years ago seems unproductive.

  6. To Yberra's OG post. You're right about people you'd never think would engage in certain online behaviors in fact do. I've been work friends with a person for over a decade. Two weeks ago for the first time we had a few beers after work. The guy always cane off as smart, level headed, no nonsense, married with two kids, and like me a little left of center on sociopolitical issues. About an hour into it he begins to open up about his burner accounts, his years of trolling comment sections and Twitter/X (politics), and the various conspiracy theories he buys into. For example, he was constantly checking his socials that night because he was convinced Trump had died 4 days earlier. If you would've told me he engaged in such things prior to our night out, I would've said you're wrong, he's not like that, and besides, what would he gain by it? Makes zero sense. It doesn't. Yet he absolutely does, and spends a lot if time doing it. Upshot is it wouldn't surprise me a bit if ex and current Ticket hosts and support staff troll MTC.

  11. I mentioned this a few weeks back, did the research then promptly forgot to circle back and post it.
Ladies and gentlemen of the MTC jury, I present to you the case of Dan McDowell, not that great.
The evidence? In the first 2 years of THZ, D&J ranged anywhere from 1st to 7th, with an average rating over 24 months of 3.33.
    Specifically, 3 firsts, 3 seconds, 9 thirds, 4 fourths, a fifth, 3 sixths and a 7th.
Compare to TSS. In their first 2 years, they ranged from 1st to 11th, with an average rating over 24 months of 3.25.
Specially 5 firsts, 5 seconds, 7 3rds, 2 fourths, 3 fifths, and an 8th and 11th. So higher highs for the SS, 17 top 3 finishes, versus 15 for THZ. And while the sweet spot had lower lows, the 8 and the 11th, that was the July and August ratings of 2024, their first full summer on air, pre football, summer doldrums, etc.
so why do I think McDowell is not thst great. TSS is a hard listen. They’re not great, sometimes they’re not even good. Yet they’re still getting better ratings than a guy who’d been in that daypart for 20 years. Sure it was a new show w Dan and Jake, but they had the McDowell continuity factor.
Head to head comparing each shows firST 2 years month to month TSS had better ratings in 10 months, THZ better in 8 months, and tied in 6 months.
I’ll tell you, I don’t think TSS is a great show, but what does it say when 2 guys who have never done a full time show together, 2 guys who weren’t full time hosts, get better ratings (even if just marginally better) than a guy who’s held that shift for 20 years and his hand picked producer turned co-host.
Like I said, it screams to be that Bob was the draw of BAD radio, and Dan McDowell, not that great.

    1. Now do 12-3 ratings performance relative to Musers ratings performance for THZ vs TSS

      Delete
    2. Why don't you do it. Oh I know why. It's an exercise in futility.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, un, you're leaving out The Norm and Donnie and current versions of The Invasion. So there is no meaningful correlation between Muser and either HZ or SS numbers. But don't let that get in the way of a good old fashioned self pat on the back. And just to head you off at the pass, The OG Invasion garnered its best numbers during THZ 's run, while v 2.0 has been up and down--which only further buttresses C's analysis.

      Delete
    4. I’m not sure where Porung is going with this. Both shows THZ and TSS underperform the Musers and the Hardline. What correlation I see relates to midday ratings being a skosh lower than AM. In other words if the Musers have a 10 share, THZ or TSS have a 7 or 8. If the Musers have a 15 share, THZ or TSS probably have a 12 share. I didn’t notice any month where THZ outperformed the Musers. And that’s kind of my point. The new show that by most accounts sucks, has ratings comparable to the show from the guy who’s spent 20 years in that daypart. Dan McDowell, not that great.

    5. The claim is TSS's #s are a function of residual Musers listeners. And that Muser #s are higher now than THZ days.

      More pathetic, desperate Hive copium.

      Delete
    6. So their theory is that the ticket is more popular now, without THZ on the station, then they were when THZ was on the station? And that TSS’s ratings can be attributed to higher overall station ratings that improved when THZ was no longer on the station?
Not kidding about copium, they add what Reddit calls a pedo and 2 guys who Redditors claim are incompetents who prove the Peter principle, and yet they’re more popular than old man Norm and THZ.

  12. Good work C minus. If you don't know though, the DZ groupies just reply with "ratings don't matter" "ratings don't equal quality" "the way ratings are measured is not accurate." All very well may be true, but were seldom brought up prior to the departure.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If ratings don’t matter, why did Jake agree to ratings bonuses in his contract. The contract is floating around on line, paragraph 4.2 and appendix A specifies how much (redacted) they’ll receive for 1st or 2nd place finishes in the target demographic. Weird that it doesn’t matter AND had a material impact on how much Dan and Jake made. And while THZ/TDZ supporters may argue that they way they are measured isn’t accurate, both Dan and Jake believed in the accuracy enough to have part of their compensation rely on the accuracy/inaccuracy of those ratings.
And a side note, TSS has had more 1s and 2s in demo than THZ( 10 to 6) so why they may be cheaper, if the contracts are similar, TSS is earning more ratings bonuses than THZ did.

    2. At the risk of setting up a strawman here (I didn't hear the segment in question): if by "government forcing companies to silence speech" you mean the employers who are firing people for cheering Kirk's murder, that is what is false. You can say whatever the heck you want, just be prepared to deal with the societal consequences. Nobody is being locked up (yet*) for being a soulless ghoul.

*I say "yet" because If you are referring to Pam Bondi's comments about targeting "hate speech" (for which she should have been fired yesterday), that's something else entirely - and has nothing to do with private employers not fostering hostile work environments.

Nexstar is seeking a multi billion $ merger that will require FCC approval. the FCC Chair made threats and within hours Kimmel was pulled from the air. Can bury your head in the sand however, this is clearly the government making threats and big business complying. Much like when Paramount was exhorted for millions while they were seeking a merger with Skydance. None of this is normal. And if you think it ends here you haven't been paying attention.

  16. Well, to take it back to the vanilla issues on the station, there has been a lot of talk about the El Conquistador ride being silenced at Six Flags. Not withstanding Davey's (and some of Gordo's) sexual references. There are many reasons this ride was so popular.

It was a coming of age ride! When you finally got past the mini-mine train ride and the other "have to be this tall" (around 3' 6" IIRC). It was when you KNEW(!) you, as a child, were growing out of the kiddie rides. It was your first "big kid" ride experience. It was also one the whole family could enjoy. Your nana or papa, this is the only one they would ride.

And also to follow up on The Rant tonight about outgrowing roller coasters. About 4 years ago, in San Antonio's Fiesta Texas, at 7:00 pm, I knew there would never be another time in my life that my ass would be over my head.

I may call this in to the help line.

And to the board ops: about the story about the guy with the hammer at Fedex? A Greggo drop would have been totally appropriate (who? me?). More questions about this in my next post.
