FROM THE ARCHIVES -- Let's Take a Break for a Little Green Tail Shiner

CONFESSORS:  I'm still tied up with some personal and professional changes.  got some stuff in the hopper but we're in desperate need of a thread-freshener.  dipping into the archives this morning for a spot of fun.  the ticket should bring this back as a station meme, but it seems to have faded in the collective memory.  thanks for keeping the site going while i'm tied up.  let me hear from you if you have something you'd like to propose as a featured post.  thanks, confessors.  -- plainsman

All right, things are getting a little too testy around here for my liking.

We all need to calm down a little for some Ticket fun from the archives.

I've written about this a couple of times in past posts.  For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, and for those who do, the good men at The UnTicket have the goods as they usually do.  I re-listened to this a few minutes ago and I laughed out loud again, and not just one or two giggles.

9/11 was unquestionably a worthy Number One moment at The Ticket, but here is my personal favorite moment on The Ticket of the last ten years:

Green Tail Shiner Non-Explanation with Embedded Replay of Original Reference with Bonus Classic Michael Gruber Background Chortling

The link is actually Mike's Mind on the day following the original reference, but I believe most if not all of the original Green Tail Shiner reference is replayed here.

So if, on my deathbed, my final words are "Green Tail Shiner," as they may well be, you won't need a whole damned movie to figure out what I was talking about.

  1. Whoa, Jake got up on the wrong side of bed this morning, snapping at all entities. Excellent radio, though.

  2. It's certainly not going to help him drop the "kick the ladder out from beneath you" meme that he has received. Shouldn't matter though...Corby has managed for 20 years.

  3. Yikes, I'm two weeks late to the Yahoo Sports Radio to SB Nation Radio switch.

  4. Can you elaborate, Pman, for those who were not by the channel?

  5. He/she is referring to the Jake-being-grouchy post

  6. I'm a big fan of Jake-Z, but him saying yesterday that he thinks "bribery should be legal" is probably the most ignorant thing I've ever heard him say. Maybe he was being sarcastic but if so it definitely wasn't clear to me, it sounded to me like he was arguing bribery is a normal part of politics thus shouldn't be illegal. In my humble opinion if the allegation against JWP are proven to be true then he's a great case study on why bribery should be illegal (Exhibit A: the Southern Dallas Inland Port project he helped kill).

  7. He would be appalled to hear me say this, but Jake has a little Donald Trump in him.

  8. Sturm just said some guy (can't remember the name) is calling in re: College football today and it got me thinking...Brian Jones calls in to the Musers during the college football season. Joel Klatt calls in to BaD radio. Patt Sumerall still calls in to NormAndD even after 2013 somehow. But who calls in to THL? I wouldn't say Switzer counts.

  9. DA - I saw your comment on Plainsman's last post. Credit to you for my above idea. I think I had my first "Amy Schumer - Parallel Thinking" moment.

  10. To avoid being held hostage by non-political Corby today I left the office under the guise of doing some actual work.

  11. blergoyen, uh, buddy, Pat Sumerall passed away in 2013.

  12. I think that was part of the "Patt Sumerall still calls in to NormAndD "even after 2013" somehow. But who calls in to THL? I wouldn't say Switzer counts." joke.

  13. I'm starting to agree with a lot of the confessors here on the Hard Line. Used to like Corby but not much anymore. Gordon can be a beating at times but at least he's funny.

  14. Rambling Sturm alert trying to explain why Malik Jefferson wasn't on the program today.

  15. Corby is rapidly becoming unlistenable. If you roll the wayback machine 10 years or so he was great. Funny, disarming, and full of great bits. Now he comes off as kind of angry and preachy.

A previous comment about Gordo got me to listening more closely and I have to agree, he is starting to sound kind of mean. Especially in wireless talk and interviews. He's still funny in spurts but it's not the same anymore. Is it just part of getting older, has he reached a David Letterman like state where he just doesn't care anymore?

Also, the newly assertive Jake is becoming a must listen for me. He doesn't tow the line of everyone else and has found his voice. I would love to see him get a bigger role at the little Ticket before another station money whips him away.

  16. I had no dog in the fight, so to speak, but it took less than a minute for me to hate Mike in Duncanville.

  17. Either Mike in D. is a great troll artist, or the most insufferable person in DFW. I think of myself as having a pretty good troll-detector, and still find myself getting pulled offsides by his outrageous style. I'm slightly concerned that he might fight dirty against Jake with a sucker punch or nut-shot.

  18. Hey Corby, stick a sock in your outrage. Does the name Joe Mixon ring any bells?

    Boomer . . .

  19. I caught the BaD segment today with Jake and M in D! If Mike reads this...trust me dude, nobody wants your sorry ass on the air. This guy sounds a little psycho!

  20. Youtube gold for Bob and Dan.
There is a whole channel full of this.

  21. OK, fair is fair. After listening to Junior's rant about the renegade Baylor football program, I wondered how many OU games he will go to this year and cheer for that POS woman-beater Joe Mixon.
