With Apologies to Terry Malloy, Can We Start Calling Him "Mike in Palookaville"?

  1. Mike in Duncanville = Nasty Nestor

Not sure his PR team thought that through.

  2. I watched the fight provided in the previous thread. Jake won the fight. Mike was not impressive. Jake was only impressive in relation to MiD. I do commend both fellows for entering the ring. That took guts from both.

If you psychologically break down Jake on this website you are a hack. But, if you belittle MiD then you are righteous.

Jake is a talented young man. A fine broadcaster. He doesn't know sh*t from shinola. He will only gain wisdom from life experience, which he doesn't have. That is what annoys folks about young Jake. He pontificates.

  3. Hear hear, 1023. Hear, hear. Bravissimo.

@802 If MiD = NN, then his PR team did an excellent job.

  4. Kudos to the SportsGreek on Huffduffer for getting the pod of Fight Night up just a short time after it was over. I wasn't able to stream it in real time but I was very curious to hear what had happened in the Jake-Z fight so I was glad SportsGreek had captured it for the P1s.

  6. Just listened to the opening of BaD, which is my staple show (Dan is my leader).
    Propaganda abounds regarding the fight.
Watch the video of the fight yourself.
And to hear TC critique anyone boxing (YouTube TC's fight) is a farce.
How they spin the outcome is hilarious. MiD made the fight, sold the fight and lost the fight.
    Andy Kaufman would be proud.

  7. Razor was scary good with The Musers this morning. Like he's been there for the past 23 years.

  8. More Razor fill-ins, less Doocey and the incessant remaining Muser "I know about local TV too!" fawning that happens every time. Razor was fantastic.

  9. @11:33

When was the last time Nasty Nestor was on the Ticket?

    ReplyDelete
  10. If you don't get the implication of NN and what it could mean for MiD, then I don't know what to say to you, bud.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, for one, even to this day NN is talked about by The Musers (every trip to Superbowl Radio Row). He's talked about, his presence, after all these years, is still made known. Members of The Ticket, not limited to, Norm, Gordo, and George tried for years to reach out to him (unsuccessfully). All negative stuff, yes. But, for a guy like MiD, positive. No pub is bad pub for MiD (a la Jerry Jones). If MiD's goal was to be liked, he wouldn't have made/continue to make the type of calls he did/does. He wouldn't have purposely played the heel, becoming not just Jake's nemesis, but an anathema to the entire station (sans perhaps, ironically of all personnel, Norm). He doesn't care about the kind of attention he gets, but only that he gets it. NN to this day lives in Ticket lore. Deduce, induce, extrapolate, whatever you want, from there........

  12. Oh, that he'll be remembered. Got it. Yes, I think I can agree with that.

But my guess is he's finished on-air. Maybe he can sign autographs at TicketStock.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Mike wants to be on the air. Just talking ABOUT HIM hardly accomplishes that.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nasty Nestor's encounter with The Ticket was an actual crime, whether or not charges were filed, and he was a (marginal) national figure to begin with, and still. I tend to agree with 954 that Mike in Palookaville will be remembered like Rocco and Blue -- probably not his goal.

    ReplyDelete
  15. For a guy like MiD being remembered like Rocco or NN will TURN INTO (in his mind, to use Jerry-speak) the goal. Just like he did after losing the fight, he will change the narrative and thus rewrite it in his head in order to set it aright by his psyche. He will consider himself a part of Ticket lore, a part of the grand narrative, and hence an integral component to a certain era of Ticket history, and so, a Ticket immortal. The final analysis being, again, in his mind, "I lost the battle--which I won regardless if whether I won or lost the fight, as by the very fact I fought and fought Jake and got air time/in studio time--but won the war, and I outsmarted 'em all." Moronic thinking? You bet. But that's MiD in a nutshell.

Sorry if this is too difficult to follow for the more literally-minded.

  16. To your last point, Plainsman: During yesterday's BaD show, Jake himself said that we're about to be subjected to MiD Cowboys postgame show calls. So I don't think there's a inter-show agreement to ban MiD from the Ticket airwaves, much less any sort of directive from Cat or Bennett. My guess is that you and others have, like Cuban and the NBA CBA, grossly misread the tealeaves. MiD is a tool, but he's dead bang right in one regard: he does indeed move the needle. "Hey, Herb, gonna tune into The Ticket Cowboys postgame show? I know I sure am. Can't wait to hear MiD's call...the crazy, batshit, f!" Every listener counts.

  17. Has The Fan offered him a show yet?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good question, 1244. Why not, right? After all, there is no Ticket spare or tangentially Ticket spare that The FAIL will not go after.

    ReplyDelete
  19. They haven't gone after Corby yet!

    ReplyDelete
  20. @11:29

    Maybe they have.

  21. What ever happened to Blue from the Grove?
He used to show up all over the D/FW sports talk airwaves but haven't heard from him in years. Some of his calls to Norm (especially in the years he was with Leon Simon) and to GrandPa Urine were classics.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Blue in the Grove got himself banned from every station. I do, however, have a hazy recollection of him having his own show on an predominately African American am station. Not sure if that station still exists, much less if Blue has a show. Again, my memory on this is sketchy, so it might be a figment of my imagination.

  23. @11:26....I doubt it! Even the Fan has their limitations on spares!

  24. Last week the Hardline did a segment on the rise and fall of Draftkings and Fanduel in Texas. This morning at 6am Junior read the first of what no doubt will be a million live spots for Draftkings.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Last year on top of the incessant ads, there were entire segments devoted to fanduel/draft kings. There was even a BaD Radio league. It was a whip!

    ReplyDelete
  26. (1) I always thought there was some conflict of interest with how they promoted an online betting service that advertised on the station. And here we go again.

    (2) I can answer Jake's question. Yes, there has been sex in the Sooner Schooner. But Corby and Switzer were consenting adults so . . . .

    ReplyDelete
  27. Can we rewind the tape to see what Danny and Corby thought about Teabow praying on the field?

    ReplyDelete
  28. @4:08 I applaud that joke...er...historical account.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i'm not absolutely certain what the record of my comments says of my opinion on Jake. I consider him a work in progress but one that I am fairly pleased with the present.
    That said...

I am so very glad in my Tickety soul that he showed up and put a fist in the face of MiD.
Any opinions that this was a bit I discount entirely. He got beat.

The real periscoping should have been done backstage. I'd pay good money to see that.

Are you all ready for the next six months or so of COWBOYS COWBOYS COWBOYS!
because that is what you are gonna get. Just like enchiladas

Oh and with a brief interruption of stick and puck to interfere with your hatey hate of Corby. that too.

but by God and America we have CFB this weekend! Dear Lord of our pigskin savior we have football again.

    ReplyDelete
  30. OK Junior, if you are going to go on your air and accuse Baylor of having "no nads" I need to ask you to cast your eyes northward to Norman - ground zero for no nads.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @6:12 to Junior's credit, he has stated on the air that Joe Mixon should not be on the team. The other OU blowhard on the station, not so much.

  32. In 1976 the Houston Cougars won the Southwest Conference Championship in their first year of membership and defeated Maryland in the Cotton Bowl 30-21.

In 1967 the Cougars knocked off #1 ranked Michigan State 37-7.

But who am I to dispute the resident college football expert that the biggest game in Houston Cougar history will occur this weekend when the Cougars play . . . Oklahoma.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for the history 6:22. There was also a Miami-UH game back in the early nineties where both were in the top 10 (Miami was #2) -run & shoot days. Of course it wasn't OU, so there is no chance in Corby's world it could ever be UH's biggest game in history....

  35. New ratings are out. KTCK still on top but with Cowboys and possible baseball playoffs looming, let's get ready for the sky is falling ratings talk.

    http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/other-sports/moresports/2016/09/01/dallas-sports-radio-ratings-revealed-latest-book-shows-close-battle-key-demographic

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Gopher

One thing to consider on the 6a-7p ratings numbers is the times that the Rangers play day baseball.

When games start at anytime from noon until 7pm, there is a pregame show, the baseball broadcast and a postgame show.

Seems to me this may affect ratings numbers for the 10-3 show on the flagship as well as the PM drive show.

I suspect a lot of baseball fans get their fix from listening to the great Eric Nadel by tuning in and turning down Buzz & TAG or by just listening to the radio. In that vein, the ones who tune in just for Ranger radio could probably give a flip about their other programming.

    Just my two cents.

  37. I was listening to BaD and got so pissed I almost ran off the road. They talked yesterday about the teacher making the mistake about the nickname "jigaboo" for her class. I turn on my computer today and see that it's now made national news. Well, today BaD plays audio of the moron that started all this. First off, who doesn't believe that this poor teacher just made a mistake? Of course she did. She had probably just heard it somewhere and thought it sounded kind of cute. She has repeatedly apologized. This ASS CLOWN of a father has to take a picture of it and go running to the news!! Hey ASS CLOWN...why didn't you do the decent thing and take the teacher aside and privately explain to her the mistake?! Now this poor teacher is being roasted nationally....and I pray she doesn't get fired! Hey ASS CLOWN...we have a hard enough time getting teachers as it is, not to mention all the crap they have to put up with for not just a lot of pay! Well today, we get to hear ASS CLOWN's voice, and does this guy EVER sound like the pompous PRICK!! According to the pompous ASS CLOWN, her ignorance is...well..just not enough! I guess ol A C won't be happy until she gets fired. Man! What the hell has happened to this country? I'll bet ASS CLOWN and Corby would probably be good buddies! [Sorry Plains. May be a little strong, but this overly politically correct crap infuriates the hell out of me!]

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Slinky

Political correctness requires that you make your outrage public. Otherwise the world wouldn't know what a sensitive person you are.

Certain Ticket hosts demonstrate this on a regular basis.

  39. Food for thought on a Saturday.

    1. Apologies to Corby. He may have been right about the Cougars. But as a wise man once said, even a blind squirrel finds a nut coming off the tree once in awhile. BTW, Junior and Jub also thought this could be Houston's biggest game ever.

    2. A caller to CdS had an interesting hypothetical. If Jake took a year and did nothing but train (best trainer, best nutritionist, etc) could he beat the #1 ranked female fighter? One Sorois said yes, one said no.

    3. Will we hear from Mike in D. during the first Cowboys postgame show?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Has TC been kicked in the nuts today for his pompous Notre Dame lead up to last nights game? Don't get me wrong, I think he was just playing the bad guy although he apparently truly love the Irish. Maybe he is finally getting thick enough skin to play the bad guy with the unrighteous opinions to the natives.
