A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

See You at Tight Ends Tonight . . . . [[CORRECTION -- PLAINSMAN ERROR]
. . . the most exploitative sports bar in North Plano. [[CORRECTION: The birthday is today, but Tight Ends Guy's Night Out is tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25. Thanks to Confessors East Texas P1 and Anon 1012 for pointing out my error.]]
And a very Happy Birthday to the radio station that keeps us entertained, if not exactly informed, KTCK 1301 AM and ninety-six seven FM.

Pman - I believe it is on Wednesday, 25th. I plan on being there.
ReplyDeleteIt's manana, Pman. Stuff a rose in your shirt pocket so we know who are. I'll be rhe only white guy dressed like Rerun from "What's Happening."
ReplyDeleteI am going to try to make it there. Last time I was there, parking was a bastard, had to stash the Conestoga over in Stonebriar.
ReplyDeleteIf you see a guy in a coat & tie, come on up and see if it's me. Happy to say hello, buy you a bev.
Thanks again for setting me straight on GNO.
you know, when you put photos like this up there, those of us who work in cubicles scramble to close the browser very quickly, then don't visit your site during works hours for weeks afterward.
ReplyDeleteWorker productivity soars under the Trump Administration!
ReplyDeleteCredit where credit is due:
ReplyDeleteSome months ago I complained about the new version of the SportsDay Talk app, saying it was a definite downgrade from the prior version (I think my exact quote was: "It sucks"). Well a few weeks ago they made some more tweaks and now I think it is definitely a much better app than it was before the changes. The ability to rewind up to an hour and keep track of where you are in the showgram is pretty damn awesome. Good job to the developers, I guess it just took a little time to fully complete the upgrade.
On another note, it seems like Jake has been getting more and more live spots lately. Good for him. I'm curious whether he gets any extra compensation for those, or is it just part of his regular job duties? And do they have a price list for the various on-air personnel for live spots? Like maybe Cumulus charges the most for one of the Musers, less for the NaD and BaD and THL guys, and the least for Jake-Z and other JVers? Although now that I think about it, I don't recall any other JV member doing any live spots. As someone who has precisely zero knowledge of the radio biz, I am very curious about how this stuff works...
Live reads definitely come with additional compensation (from the sponsor not Cumulus are you kidding). Same for station appearances - when Fahey is at a Raising Cane's in Arlington from 12-3 on a Saturday, he's getting paid (though the station def takes a cut). And there's absolutely a premium associated with Tier I talent. Which is why the JV does most of the appearances - first teamers are pricey
DeleteHave to agree with James, Pman - except I've trained myself to open MTC at work in a browser window (as opposed to full screen). A small browser window. A browser sliver, if you will.
ReplyDeleteI could listen to Mike talk about the first days/weeks of the Ticket for hours on end. It was cool to hear from Curt Menefee yesterday. For a guy that didn't discover the Ticket until right after Greggo left, I love hearing about all the history.
ReplyDeleteMy attendance at GNO looking a little iffy. If I'm able to stop by it would probably be early, 5-ish. If you attend, let us know how it all went down, with photos if possible.
ReplyDeleteAnyone not currently full time in the radio industry has to find it overwhelmingly insulting TC has a full time position in a top-5 market. He's the worst broadcaster I've ever heard, and I used to live in Idaho.
ReplyDeleteLook for TC on the E-Brake on Friday. Tremendous ticker yesterday. This is why I say keep him forever. I really don't mind his opinions, he has the occasional funny one-liner, and then there's his Ticker gold.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, Ptits, spit shine the Conestoga and get yer ya yas out with the P1 Confessors.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the back bar at unreserved table. Stop by and I'll treat. Now being told I can't sit here so check at the bar. Tie.
ReplyDeleteNow being told I can sit here.
ReplyDeleteOn Twitter, someone asked Greggo about that book he's writing. His response:
ReplyDelete"Still writing..researching..and most of all.....jumping over legal hurdles...remember...it's a tell-all"
OOOKaaaaayyyyy....
Paint the scene for us, Plainsman.
ReplyDeleteNow being told I can sit here.

ReplyDeleteHope to read a play by play/your gentle musings on GNO at some point, Plainsman. Wish I could've made it out. Would've bought you a bev or three for kindly and gentlepersonly hosting this forum for us P1 kooks.
ReplyDeleteMaybe next time...
Damn Pman - I did not think to check this blog during the show. I was at the second table from the front on the left as you watched the show. We had an extra seat. Me, dark hair, mustache, my buddy with a green shirt with his back to the hosts as he is not a P1, just there to monger the waitresses and a extremely P1 guy we met with a cane. He said he and Norm always discuss the various issues of canes when they meet.
ReplyDeleteThe table on my right had a guy and a lovely young lady who were definitely in the orbit of the sweet little ticket. All the hosts sat down with them at various times and it was clear it was not "fan"-initiated. I introduced myself as we were standing in line for the urinal and asked him if he was associated with the ticket. He said yes, we shook hands. Who is Kevin Johnson?
Also, made acquaintance with Taylor in promotions. He was the guy who led the Happy Birthday singing. And the very cute and very busty Cassidy, the ticket chick.
Overall, scene 10, festivity 10, atmosphere 10, audio -1. I was 12 feet from the one speaker stand (ONE!!) and could barely hear the show. Maybe it was because of the ambient noise. But I believe, had the show audio been adequate then people would have been listening and not talking. Dog eat dog, can't hear so talk, which makes hearing less possible so talk more.
My 2cents
Hope to catch you at Ticketstock, Pman
Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that we're 3-4 weeks into the new year and Mike's Mind still doesn't have a sponsor? Just now, Rhynes did the usual "who is being leveraged here?" and Mino played a drop (as they've been doing for a while now). Given how many people on here (and in other places) say the only part of THL that they listen to is Mike's Mind, you'd think someone with money would want their name attached to the segment...
ReplyDeleteI believe January is notorious for being slow in the sales dept for radio
ReplyDeleteJust had an unsponsored 8:50am ticker as well
