If my deep Cumulus source is correct, I believe most Confessors will find this a welcome development. (I never know how reliable my sources are, but this one has the ring of accuracy on the merits, so I'm going with it.)
I have enjoyed Eli Jordan's work since he emerged at The Ticket awhile back -- he'll even sit in with Rick Arnett on The Tee Box from time to time -- but I'm especially pleased for Ty Walker. Of course, he hosts Diamond Talk with Sean Bass, but it's great to see he's earned a permanent daylight-hours slot after his expert backwater toil at The Ticket all these years. (I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what award Diamond Talk has won, not that it doesn't deserve to have won one, but it's right there in all the promos; you'd think someone would know.)
That leaves Sunday mornings, 8-11, to be filled.
My own listening plus comments received on this site inspire a respectful request to the New World Catman to give the very most thoughtful and heartfelt consideration to some combination that includes Justin Montemayor.
Then the Ticket world will be perfect, except for all that network programming.
Congratulations to Ty and Eli.
Hay! Country Force, can't wait for your tractor-pull coverage. |
Atta way, CF!!!! Excellent news, indeed!!!!
ReplyDeleteMeh
ReplyDeleteAw, come on, Colorado! "Meh" is so late-2015-early-2016!
ReplyDeleteDouble Meh
ReplyDeleteFor the entire Hardline to listen to Corby read Terry Crews's account on his harassment incident and for no one to inform him that he wasn't talking about Harvey Weinstein, is proof that no one listens to each other on that show.
ReplyDeleteI'm constantly amused by Corby stopping in the middle of an e-news story to ask "who is . . . ?" He is either doing a cold read of the story off the internet or can't be bothered with finding out who his stories are about.
ReplyDeleteGood for Eli and Ty but this really doesn't move the needle for me or compel me to listen on Saturday mornings. Nothing personal against them - they are good but I was hoping for something more. At least Not a Podcast and Shake Joint were different and had that "youthful energy" to them for lack of a better word.
ReplyDeleteUnderstood. Youthful energy is fine, but too often these shows exhibit youthful lethargy, and what energy there is turns manic. (Not necessarily referring either to Shake or Pod.)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm looking forward to a permanent slot for Country Force. They'll get some trademarked segments and bits going, I think it'll be good. And I just like the listen I get from those guys, a kind of relaxed intensity.
You're going to get some kind of youth-movement show on Sunday 8-11, I betcha. That's what Cat's been auditioning in various forms, and we can hope (my opinion) that Monte will be helming it.
Real interesting conversation today on THL. Danny and Corby discussing the Weinstein situation and gaping at how Hollywood types are now having to explain jokes they told about Weinstein 5 years ago, etc. All I could think: "Uh, sheesh guys, if I were you I'd be more than a bit nervous about your jobs within the industry much less the station/DFW market." You can go back, eh, what, one day ago and find multiple un PC ejaculations. And some that might be a joke today or yesterday, and therefore acceptable because it's coming from self identified progressives, will not be in the near future. You'll be asked to account for it. That's the end game with all this anti-free speech/thought police path we're rapidly going down. Can't put the toothpaste back in the tube once it's out. Yeah buddy, it's out.
ReplyDeletefunny you mention that 5:31. I find myself punching out most often during the musers' racist/homophobic bits, and have since I gained my p1 card
ReplyDeleteIf I were Gordo I'd stick with the more surreal bits and lay off a lot of his bread and butter go-to "hey it's me, I'm a man of the left so I can say this racist/sexist/homophobic/essentialist thing because you know I don't mean it, like Sarah Silverman and stuff" material. Ditto Corbles and Denis on unattractive females cuz they ain't on my side of the right side of history talk, and really about women and sexuality in general. The day Psnoot and others have from time to time over the years have wondered about, that is when will some of the outlandish HR nightmare shit that some of the hosts say bite them hard on the ass, might be right around the corner. Believe it. This Weinstein thing's gonna start an avalanche. It's merely the tiny boulder that precedes the biggun.
ReplyDelete"Psnoot." Ha. Doesn't roll off the tongue, but it fits.
ReplyDeleteHarry, you must have been around for awhile, because I have indeed wondered why the Hardline didn't cruise into trouble with women's groups. I while The Ticket and even the Hardline has a number of female listeners -- especially girlfriends/spouses of male P1's -- I suspect the committed leftist female does not contribute significantly to their ratings. Especially when Greg Williams was there, but certainly also from time to time since, the misogyny on The Hardline from all on-mic voices has been obvious and not a bit.
But it seems to me that they've toned that down the past couple of years. It wouldn't surprise me to learn they've had a talking-to. It still pops up from time to time, especially, as you say, when commenting on the physical attractiveness (or un-) of a particular public female. But it isn't as ugly as it used to be.
With the testosterone surging through the entire on-air staff -- powerful and popular and (some of them) monied men -- I'd love to get a peek at The Ticket's/Cumulus's HR files and dockets of its employment attorneys, and a listen to what the female Sales and Admin staff talk about over their Jenny Craig kale-and-quinoa entrees. It's hard to find an employer of any kind who doesn't have harassment complaints, some valid and some made-up, but I gotta believe that an entertainment entity like The Ticket/FAN/ESPN has more than the per capita average. (I hasten to add I have no information about any incidents at The Ticket, and if you think you do, please think twice before posting -- without some publicly-available backup or other verification, I'm likely to delete.)
The issue of the treatment of women -- on-air and otherwise -- at The Ticket, should it ever arise, won't come from picketing or angry emails to Cat. It will come from Bada Bing Motors calling Sales and pulling its spots, from Autoflex flexing itself right out of there, and Bart Reagor keeping it real everywhere but The Ticket.
P-Man,
ReplyDelete"How will you feed?" is still in play when Corby goes wireless. Let someone like Ann Coulter come into the conversation and see how well the Hardline's feminist sensibilities hold up.
Incredible amount of conservative snowflakes on this board. The political persuasion that's supposed to be thick skinned (Righty) cant take it when evil anti-American progressives espouse their philosophies etc. It's ok for Saint Hannity espouse his "fair and balanced" take on a news station but heaven forbid a sports talking head skew a little left on a sports entertainment program. Right wing = American, apple pie and Jesus and Progressives = fancy book lernin, elitists liberal traitors.
ReplyDeleteKneeling is no solution, just a big hey look at me I am against "blah blah blah"
ReplyDeleteI am tired of causes. Anyone can point out a problem.
When you point out the solution to a problem then I will care to listen.
Exactly what are 1253 and 243 talking about? None of this has anything to do with the anthem. No one, sans 1253 (BKH?), has talked about fragile progressives or right wingers. I think the only thing about progressive thought was that some of the most egregiously misogynistic and insensitive hosts are self-identified progressives, and while that provides its own sort of forcefield (just like the right has its forcefields), said forcefield is starting to show cracks. And those with the hammers, doing the cracking, are not from the right, but rather, from ever more woke progressives. Is this a good thing or a bad thing, I for one cannot make that judgment. Regardless of what you might think, it's real and it's happening. The question is: where does it lead us?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Psnoot. (I like 'yat.)
ReplyDeleteTy brought back a porn birthday today. It's been awhile.
ReplyDeleteBeen too long.
ReplyDeleteBaD played the Greggo OnStar call today. Greggo's last day on the air was 10 years ago.
ReplyDeleteTen yrs. Damn. Ten yrs of MTC? Can't believe it. Ticket sure has changed in the past decade.

ReplyDeleteKind of silly words to aim at the man whose version of this page has a little trash can icon next to each comment, 831. Hope you enjoyed however long it took you to compose those lines.
ReplyDelete3:06: those two comments don't make sense because they aren't intended to be part of civil discourse. They are prime examples of someone trying to pick a fight. They are best ignored.
ReplyDelete10 years and about 6 or 7 million in total salary over that time. Bad decision Greggo
ReplyDeleteI miss the porn birthdays. I also miss getting sandwiches from the sponsor, Mr. G’s. Good on Ty Walker Chicken 🐔 for his courage. But still meh on “Country Force.” I would much rather hear Monty + Mino.
ReplyDeleteI also guhgree with 1253 and hey look, it rhymes.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of you as a troll, Colorado P1. Because that's all 1253's comment was about: trolling. Sad.
ReplyDeleteMaybe George can't go home for the rest of the day but thanks to Gordo I am taking the rest of the show off.
ReplyDeleteGordo turns into Corby on Fridays as he put no effort into his job on the last day of the week.
You just lost a listener.......
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
ReplyDeleteGetting down on Friday a little early are we?
ReplyDeleteHas Switzer ever said anything that isn't the funniest damn thing Corby ever heard?
ReplyDelete@5:26 No.
ReplyDeleteI know from reading here that many of you change the dial when (a) the topic turns to politics, (b) the Hardline starts or (c) when TC gets too much mic time, but the Switzer love fests are the only thing that sends me looking for alternatives to the beloved little Ticket.
5:42, you described me! I punch out for a, b, c and Switzer. As soon as I heard "coach" I was out. Thank God for Siriusxm. Hey ticket, this isn't 2000 anymore. Listeners have options, buddy.
