Out of Town (and Pocket) for a Week -- Speak Your Mind, But I'll Be Watching
I believe Monte said on last Saturday morning's show with Killer that we were going to get "T&T" this Saturday at 10.
I'd like to hear Monte and Travis put a show together. Like both those guys and they both have that kind of mensch-y quality that sets The Ticket apart. Absolutely nothing against Killer, who has calmed down and improved quite a bit. But the JaKE (Justin and Killer Experience) show has kind of a cobbled-together feel to it, can't really put my finger on it. Sounds touchy-feely for a Ticket journalist to say, but I'm looking for some warmth in the presentation.
Anyway, give honest and thoughtful takes on T&T while I'm gone. The New World Feline needs our help.
I'm digging pregame Dan. I like his "eyeball" analysis and comments. While I appreciate and understand the importance of the analytics view, I prefer the balance between the two approaches that Can is offering. I wish we'd see more of this Dan on BaD.
I have commented, and believe others have noted as well, that when Dan plays it straight he's very effective and interesting and that he's actually better when he's not with Bob (and this is not in any way a criticism of Bob, who I admire greatly as a host). In fact . . . Dan is not all that much of a "sports humorist," and forcing him into that role on the BaD show diminishes his gifts. (I sometimes wonder if that is a sarcastic title.) He's frequently very strong if he's a member of a non-BaD group or the spotlight is on him to lead a show or segment, or, frankly, if he's hosting a show with someone other than Bob.
10:43, I respectfully disagree. For one, many of us don't watch the entire game, because we cannot. Work, children, church, other priorities. Second, even if we do watch every play, it's good to hear a professional sports commenter share his observations. I mean, that's a huge reason why the Ticket exists.
Norm needs to get off his knees for his lawyer friends over the Ezekiel Elloit saga. Just because his friends are involved, Norm is on the wrong side of this issue. Go read the reports Norm.
You should be ashamed of supporting him, he is a flawed guy. Very flawed.
What are you talking about? Norm hasn't once supported Zeke. His beef is not with the ruling, but rather, with his the case has been prosecuted. Has nothing to do with the case per se. Stop virtue signalling, and try to listen to what is actually said.
All right, each position has had its say, now we're going to drop it.
You want to comment on Elliott, I'm OK with that, but ad hominem remarks will not be allowed.
My two cents is that I expected this ruling, given the Second Circuit precedent on the Brady matter.
More than that, O Confessors, one thing that sometimes gets lost in the lay accounts of all of this is that the law governing these cases is not primarily about whether the NFL made the right decision, OR EVEN IF IT WAS FAIR. Bargained-for arbitration has been around for a long time and it was developed as an alternative method of settling disputes where parties could agree to keep a dispute out of the court system, but one thing they gave up in the process were the protections of the court system and even due process.
It is extremely difficult -- the standards are very high -- to get an arbitration decision turned around in court on the grounds of unfairness. Fraud, obvious bias on the part of the arbitrator, bribery, things that impeach the integrity of the process -- sometimes you can have a chance to get an arbitration award vacated. But if you have agreed in a contract to submit a dispute to binding arbitration, you're pretty much done. Looking at the disputed facts as a juror might look at them -- was she a liar, did Goodell ignore his own investigators, etc. -- is pointless, at least as far as trying to figure out where the case is going to come out. The Musers touched on this aspect of it this morning. The Players Association agreed to this process; the process was not irregular; and they can't now be heard to attack it. I didn't think Elliott was going to fare any better than did Brady. I didn't expect the Texas district court's decision to survive, although I didn't foresee the reversal by the Fifth Circuit on the grounds it used.
BTW: I haven't read a single one of these decisions. I heard the Texas federal district judge's decision was not very good, and I'm hearing today that the New York federal district judge's decision of late last night was strong. (Kind of makes me think she may have been working on it before the hearing.)
Speaking of The Musers -- can't wait to hear George's simmering HSO on Jerry Jones which is so incendiary he was going to run it by Craig first. Hope I don't miss it.
I don't think it went down today. This one will be so hot, they'll for sure package it and promote it well in advance of devoting a segment to it. And today was already booked, so I'm guessing we'll hear it in the next day or so.
I am worried George is misunderstanding the Killer and Ty weight loss spots and is on the SODA plan. The big man needs to drop 50 lbs for his health now that he is in his 50s.
My issue with Norm is he comes from the basis that Cowboys only win because other teams made mistakes. It's as if Cowboys never win a game on their own merits but instead the other team would inherently win all games against the boys if not for the pesky self inflicted mistakes they made. Gets beyond annoying.
And as far as Norm showing some support for Zeke? Remember he is the sports guy who defended Dave Bliss until it became obvious the guy was a criminal and habitual liar. I don't put much stock into Norm's character witness claims.
You know, I really wasn't going to say anything...really wasn't! So I want the little guy that comes on to chastise me, when I berate Corby for his stupidity, to know that. I've been bouncing between TCKT and ESPN to catch opinions on Cowboys and Zeke, but mainly, because ESPN's signal really SUCKS these days; constant static and cutting out! I heard Corby's little detainment news segment yesterday about Kevin Spacy. Well, I clicked over in time today to hear him rattling on again about him. First off, I love how Corby embellishes his celeb stories to make it sound like these guys are just dying to hang out with him. I imagine Kevin was joking, to keep things lighthearted, when asking Corby to show him the town. I doubt very seriously that he was interested in hanging with Corby. But the main thing I'm writing about, will somebody please tell this moron the definition of "pedophile"!! A pedo is someone [male or female] that is sexually attracted to "prepubescent" children, commonly up to age of 12. There are a lot of cases where the human body reaches full development at very early stages. Even tho underaged, that does necessarily qualify perpetrator as a "pedophile"! That word is way overly misused these days.
Did any of you hear David Moore on with The Hardline today? That was the best explanation I've heard any non-attorney give of the basis for the New York decision. Pretty much what I said in my comment at 1128a above.
I dunno, slink, I thought Corby's story was pretty interesting, and I believed it. Agree re misuse of "pedophile."
Man, remember when Gordon used to be edgy? What happened to making women read his creepy Halloween cards? Did the ticket succcumb to political correctness? The ticket was barstool before it was even around.
No Plainsman, The SOTA vs Soda remark was a comment that it appears George is consuming a lot of sugar (Soda) and perhaps thought the weight loss plan was drink a lot of sugar water (Soda) vs. SOTA (State of the Art). Weak attempt at humor. He obviously is not on a weight loss plan as can be seen by his large size.
Excellent redhead today, Mr. Plainsman. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat bod, but she ain't no Myrna Loy.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know the source(s) of the redhead photos. In lieu of that, a gallery on the site of the photos would be AWESOME!

Don't care what Sturm says, give me a four hour classic like tonight's WS game VS a four hour ugly nfl game. Don't at me!
ReplyDeleteWell, this is interesting. http://www.theunticket.com/ticket-employee-goes-to-jail/
ReplyDeleteThat's from 2009, James. If memory serves, they did talk about it, but failed to mention the tit bar locale.
ReplyDeleteoops. thanks.
ReplyDeleteNo prob, James.

ReplyDeleteNice comment, boobs.

Amen, Psnoot and Boobs. Solid comments there, you two.
ReplyDeleteSomeone please tell Norm that we all watch the games.
ReplyDelete"5 key plays" is so tired and boring and is only beaten as the worst segment on his show by "meatheads of the week"
Donny..... Mike..... please do something to help the P1's
p.s.
Tell Dan to get rid of "homer call of the week" as well...........

ReplyDeleteI have no opinion on Homer Call.
I think that Norm has gotten very stale.
ReplyDeleteI have been with him from his HSE days and have always enjoyed his work but I am changing the dial more and more these days.
Plus the older he gets his political opinions get more air time. Just don't want to hear them.
I guess just like Dirk "father time" catches all of us.
Stay Hard Norm.

Is the former Commander on the SOTA plan? What makes you think he's misunderstood it?
ReplyDeleteI think he did the George DiGianni (Sturm-endorsed) 21-day "cleanse" some time back and lost some lbs but they returned.
523, are you familiar with the cum hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy?
ReplyDelete848, I don't see any nexus between that fallacy and anything 523 had to say.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I really wasn't going to say anything...really wasn't! So I want the little guy that comes on to chastise me, when I berate Corby for his stupidity, to know that. Because Norm defended a sleaze, a la Bliss, he necessarily defends Zeke. That's what, in essence, 523 is claiming. Therefore the fallacy stands.
ReplyDelete.....Even tho underaged, that does "not" necessarily qualify perpetrator as a "pedophile"! That word is way overly misused these days.

7:55 this morning for Georgio’s HSO re:Jerry.
ReplyDeleteHi 8:48
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard of the compare everything to a fallacy fallacy?
Pointing out that Norm has a propensity for defending shady character type people doesn't fit neatly into your fallacy argument.
