Remember My Crazy but Deeply-Held Theory About Coercing Jerry Jones to Sell the Cowboys?

Maybe not so extremely crazy, although this version is more conventional:

Niffle Owners Could Force Jerry Jones to Sell Cowboys

We can dream.

"I don't care f_____-all about what bag of Jones DNA operates the Dallas Cowboys, but don't you dare touch that cute ginger football team manager man."

  1. I do recall some wacky theory of yours regarding this very thing. There's no way that this happens, but the billionaires' pissing March is highly entertaining.

  2. 817, I trot that wacky theory out every once in awhile. See post before last where I raid the archives to abuse the Confessor with it again. Like I said, not as crazy as it might have seemed.

By the way: Jerry Jones is not the only billionaire who is strong-willed and used to getting his own way, and petulant, and able to hire powerful lawyers, and expert at working behind the scenes. I'm sure there are owners out there who have had their fill of Jerry as most of us have, and even though the owners may not invoke their right to force a sale, they can make enough noise, threaten, and embarrass the Jones family enough to get them in line, and maybe to get Jerry to move to emeritus status and give the next generation the reins.

Although I'm not persuaded Steven would be a step up.

  3. If the league could not run Al Davis off, I doubt they can run Jerruh.
I would rather see Charlotte running this thing than Stephen. Unless Stephen is toeing the company line, I'm afraid it would be more of the same just slightly less crazy.

  4. Is it me, or did you not change out the redhead for this post?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Not just you. I noticed to my astonishment and mortification that I had selected exactly the same redhead just a few posts back. I had no recollection of doing so. This is deeply troubling to me, as it should be to all True Confessors.

  6. Red on the head, fire in the hole, bruthaaaaaaaa!!!!I

Man, I think Stephen is a Jerry started kit. From the first time I saw him wearing a coach's get up on the sidelined during training camp, I knew he was Jerry part two

  7. You changed out the wrong one tho

  8. BREAKING - UPDATE: Ticket source reports that the meeting with the Cumulus boss last week was not all that. As speculated, it was mostly just face time with the CEO, no news, nothing dramatic.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well, that's good to hear. I'd hate to see big changes.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Did you know that last week the Saints wore decals on their helmets in memory of Fats Domino? But the NFL wouldn't let the Cowboys honor the fallen Dallas police officers with helmet decals. The more time that passes, the more and more this all just looks like a power struggle/pissing contest between Jerry and the league.

  11. Junior did a segment this morning that focused on why Nerlens Noel isn't playing more. He prefaced the segment by saying he has an inside source with the Mavericks. What he went on to say was a complete oral plagiarism segment which made me very disappointed. His segment from the "inside Mavericks source" was virtually verbatim from the following Ringer.com article that posted yesterday online. I still love Junior Miller and the Musers but thought the inside source reference was misleading to say the least. Here is the source of Junior's segment

    https://www.theringer.com/nba/2017/11/12/16640518/nba-nerlens-noel-dallas-mavericks-rick-carlisle

    ReplyDelete
  12. Maybe they have the same inside source and Junior wasn't aware of the ringer piece? If Leibniz and Newton can invent calculus simultaneously, why can't this be the case?

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1. Because Junior is a self admitted math neophyte and doesn't know algebra let alone calculus
    2. Junior discussion was word for word laid out in the exact same manner. Odds of the sequential matching of the words is astronomical.

At the end of the day its his show and he can say what he wants. Just found it a bit disingenuous.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 1 is a non sequitur.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I did not hear the segment in question, but sounds like a Junior gag, claiming deep inside sources but obviously getting stats from an article.

Although usually the host will credit the source.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Geez 703 the non sequitur comment was inability to grasp next level humor on your part

    ReplyDelete
  17. Or is it that you failed to grasp the next next level? See how that works? Geez.

  18. UPDATE - UPDATE - BREAKING: A Deep Ticket Source with claimed ties to near-relatives and hangers-on to service personnel known to render aid to Tier 1 hosts from time to time reports that, in fact, Craig Miller did have a live Mavericks source for the information discussed in the comments above and did not know about any similar information on The Ringer site. S/he speculates that maybe the same source supplied both, possibly accounting for similar-sounding reports.

  19. More breaking news - the Musers proved that you can do a music segment that doesn't come in the form of a lecture.

  20. Excellent column in the Dallas Morning News about the Great Gordo's life since the death of his parents, including depression and losing the will to write. My admiration for this man knows no bounds. So glad to see him finding his way back through the fog, so to speak.

  21. Wish I could have heard that rock-and-roll segment. I think the guy that played guitar on Rocket 88 just died a few days ago, maybe Gordon already knew that.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The following comment is completely unrelated to this post:

After years of hearing it referenced on the BAD Radio show and elsewhere, I have no idea what the Guest Booking League is about. Not asking for anyone to explain it here, because I'm guilty of both ignorance and apathy when it comes to GBL

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the GBL is basically a non-entity at this point and that they should officially retire it. They do the draft and then occasionally book guests, but it doesn't seem like they really talk about it much at all these days. Which is fine with me because when they do talk about it I find it a beating of the highest order, except when they actually have an interesting guest on. Like when they had Demond Wilson from Sanford & Son a few years ago - that was a classic and I never get tired of hearing the highlights.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow. The Ticket Reddit site got some huge love from BaD today. Guess they had an AMA. MTC not on BaD's radar. Understandable.

    ReplyDelete
  25. P-Man, maybe it's me but I thought Bob and Dan were less than totally forthcoming on some of their AMA answers yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Unfortunately, I was in the car and reached my appointment just as Bob and Dan were finishing heaping praise on Reddit for having a Ticket-dedicated site. (I don't mean to be snarky -- the Ticket Reddit site is quite good.)

So I didn't hear any of the questions or responses. Can you or any Confessor fill us in on highlights or anything that sounded off, tidbits, news, pull-back-the-curtain stuff?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe as an all day P-1 I shouldn't expect to hear anything I don't already know, but it seemed like some of Bob and Dan's answers were cursory and quickly wrapped up with "and that's how that happened."

If you look at the Reddit page there are comments about the AMA - some thought it was good, some thought they left information on the table.

  28. Did you hear Killer on Unsportsmanlike Conduct last Wednesday? Because of his weight loss one beer made him sound like he had just downed a six pack.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 226, I can't believe you wrote that. I have been thinking to myself whether I should mention my similar reaction to exactly that. I've held off; there's something about Killer -- something kind of sweet and needy and eager -- that makes me not want to say anything negative about him. I am ecstatic that he's a pitchman for SOTA -- I'm sure he's banking considerable coin for that. If he's not, he needs a new agent, because I'm sure he's increased their business tremendously.

    However . . .

When I was listening to Intentional Grounding (I assume this is what you're referring to) last Wednesday, my thought was: too much Killer.

I forget the point he wanted to make. No, wait, I do remember: It was that he was upset that Zeke had abandoned his fight against the suspension. He broke into the show and asked Robert and David if he could pop on. There was a pause -- you knew this wasn't entirely welcome -- but they said sure. And he just went on too long and said the same thing over and over and it wasn't that interesting. (Although did not seem inebriated to me.)

Killer seems like a good guy. His colleagues seem to like him. He's been promoted at the station. I just didn't need to hear him go on at length on Intentional Grounding, a show which isn't long enough to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Damn. The Ticket Cowboys pregame with Jake, Sean, David N and (today) Craig is so, so good.

How has The Ticket achieved a sound that is so different, and so much better, than its competitors? And it's lasted for decades.

It's on my list of topics I probably won't get to.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think one thing The Ticket does is maintain focus. They have a segment topic, and it stays there. You listen to other stations, and it's just guys talking and it goes all over the place. I had the unfortunate opportunity to listen to SB Nation, or whatever it's called, on The Ticket between shows on Sunday. Christ. Tier 3 Ticket hosts could do better. And surprisingly, Ticket hosts are pretty informed compared to others.

Also, there isn't a blatant homerism that we hear on The Fan. How many times can Mike Fischer defend his buddy Dez Bryant? It's so infuriating to hear. "Dez is misunderstood" or "Just ask Dez, nobody does but me!" is what he spouts after every game Bryant underperforms in (#1 receiver my ass).

  32. Did Monte & Mino officially get the Sunday AM old Shake Joint Gig? I'll hang up and listen.

    ReplyDelete
  33. White Elephant lineup drawing happening on Wednesday at 8:15a

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1233, my guess is no but I don't know for sure. I think Jeff Catlin is still juggling lineups and listening with care to see who gels and who doesn't. I'd still like to hear a Monte + Travis duet show, and as I wrote a couple of months ago I'd be interested in hearing a T.C. Fleming solo flight on Sunday mornings.

They did give themselves a name, which I've forgotten -- something like "To Be Determined." That wasn't it, but it was some name that Killer might have put in the run sheet indicating the uncertain and temporary nature of the assignment. But each of these Sunday morning tryouts have given themselves some kind of name, so I wouldn't regard that as much evidence of a permanent slotting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. A Work in Progress was the name Monte & Mino were going with.

A WHIP is more like it. Anyone here remember that halcyon days but if jargon?

    ReplyDelete
  37. You're never going to get a weekend show with an A-teamer again so you may as well get over that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Get over what, exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was a little unclear on that myself. Who is suggesting that an "A-teamer" -- whatever that means -- is likely to pop up on a weekend show? Dunno. Perhaps 732 can advise.

In fact: I'm pretty OK with most of what I've heard on the Sunday AM merry-go-'round. It sounds like Cat wants Justin involved, and I think most Confessors would agree with me that that is likely going to result in something worth listening to. They've teamed him with (1) Jason "Killer" Kellison; (2) David Mino a couple of times; (3) Travis Mejia and Tim Krajewski (?? uncertain). I'm OK with pretty much any of those combos. I like what I've heard of Travis with and without Monte and, as noted a few times above, I'd like to hear a Monte + Travis show.

  41. BoobsareformotorboatingNovember 21, 2017 at 1:08 PM

Man! That was not what I wrote! "But(t) if jargon." I'm all about the rack, not the bootaay. I was referring to the old Ticket term "whip." As in something or someone that\who beats you down. In the old, i.e., halcyon days, it was a ubiquitous term that, while (I believe) coined by Gordo, was quickly adopted by all of the hosts.

    ReplyDelete
  42. When can we look forward to no more T.C.? Listening to the ticket all morning then hearing T.C.’s first ticker is like enjoying one of Plainsman’s redhead pics and then seeing a pic of... well... T.C.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I remember long ago this whacked out theory. i still ain't buying it. They couldn't manage to run off Al Davis and I don't think they can run off Jerry. We are stuck with him the same as Washington is stuck with Snyder and the Blackhawks were stuck with Wirtz.

They cease to be a part of the operations when they die. That's the only thing that removes them.
Until further notice, brace yourselves for a wild and veering ride towards 8-8 every damn year with occasional forays into playoffs and sad beatdown seasons. There is no Alpha Male Coach riding over the horizon to deliver us from the clutches of the mad man. Paw Paw has the wheel and no matter what he wants the spotlight on him. Jason knows this. His disposition is towards being closed. He surrenders nothing and ventures only what he thinks is a sure thing. He is the anti-Jerry. He abhors the spotlight. He has learned to exist there on his terms, but he does not like it.
sigh. There is another epistle in the tome of jerry and the cowboys.

I still like the tier 3 and below weekend shows. I think Mino would bring HS FB to the table if they gave him the room for it or he grabbed the stage. I am a sucker for HS FB. I'll be there on Friday Nights on FSN with Craig Way et al.

what exactly is the origin of the Craig Way drop, Yahb/ Yah bob? WTF!?

Do we get to have Sirois do shots again? That was cool. If this was Colorado maybe they could do bong hits.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cactus, that comment is worthy of some of your wee-hours communiques.

It's a whacked-out proposal, for sure, but man -- there are many persons out there with many dollars, and you put a few of them together and pretty soon you got billions, and that money talks to other money, and maybe after not so very long you got enough billions to go talk to Jerry.

    And Steven. And Charlotte.

And you got a motivated Goodell and owners who are royally sick of Jerry's act, as are we all.

If Jerry throws NFL management into a cocked hat with lawsuits and other monkeyshines -- I'm telling you, there are enough monied men out there with their hugely illiquid assets tied up in their franchises that they are not going to let Jerry Jones's stupid crusades make them laughingstocks and their product repugnant to fans and viewers and advertisers.

We may not end up with a team in Fort Worth. But we may end up with ownership that won't make us ashamed to be Texans.

    ReplyDelete
  45. thank ye kindly Pman

it's really not that far-fetched. I can imagine a scenario where Jerry is ousted like Don Sterling, but they are going to have to have every duck in a nice neat row. It won't be pretty. A hostile takeover of the most valuable sports franchise on the planet? The biggest brass ones EVER. They will circle the wagons and hire every gun worth having on both sides. Epic battle that lasts a decade. you and I might be pushing up daisies and progeny yet unborn litigating it.

I think it was on the little ticket some years ago when I heard of an author opining on fine art and sports teams and why they always go for more than they are originally estimated. Because some fool wants them. Wants them bad and is willing to pay outrageous amounts of money to have them. They regularly exceed the price in the fancy book they send to prospective buyers. These one of a kind artworks and these teams of sport. Now, how hard will they fight to defend them? A Koch brother spent millions to prove his bottle of wine was a fake. Are Kraft and Blank et al ready to engage in a costly and dogged takeover of a very stubborn target? I think not. I could certainly be wrong. There could be deep deep pockets ready to upend the Arkansas hillbilly. But that is what is going to take to do it. Massive dollars. Get out the fork and start piling it up in the Ox Box. It's a bunch of saber rattling nonsense. Jerry will play ball and kowtow to the almighty league of dollars. He'll get over being butthurt that Roger didn't tell him at his 20 million dollar party that he was about to suspend his running back ewok.

so what about that Cumulus report today? That was what I came after here. I can toke up a good pipe dream of Jerry's unfortunate demise on my own time. I wanna know if they are going to parcel out the herd if the hammer comes down.

    ReplyDelete
  46. To put Jerry and Sterling into the same room is unfair and a mischaracterization of Jerry. He's a lot of shitty things. But he's not a racist. If you think so, then go survey his 20+ years of ownership vis-a-vis his African-American employees (players, staff, etc.). You will not find ONE who thinks as such. Lay off the cored out apple, cactus...but hey man, good to see you contributing again, no matter how whack. Hope yer doing well, pal.

  47. I think I got the White Elephant lineup correct:

    AM Drive
Bob & Mike Sorois - hosts
    Donovan - yuck monkey
    Jake - tickers
    Ty - producer

    10-12
    Junior - host
    OGW - producer
    Danny - tickers

    12-3
    Corby & TC - hosts
    Sean Bass - producer
    Danny - tickers

    PM Drive
    Norm and George - hosts
    Gordon - tickers
    Fernandomania - producer

  48. Forgot PM yuck monkey - Dan

  49. That looks like one of the better lineups in years.

  50. A few scattershooting comments here -

As I have posted in previous times, I prefer the 105.3 pregame over 96.7/1310 because I hear so many more voices. Not referring to the FAN voices themselves but Micky, Kristi, Owner's box, Opposing media insight and so much more. When a commercial comes on I click over to 1310 and hear usually 1 Tier A (Corby, etc.) along with the JV. While we don't get to hear the JV everyday it is usually pretty predictable. (Note, that I am usually doing other stuff during pregame so listening is kind of an after-thought while cleaning the garage, washing the car, etc.) I never listen to 105.3 except for pregame.

Interesting observation on today's activities. I had an opportunity to be on the field for the half-time rehearsal today. For a long period of time I stood about two feet (or closer) to Charlotte Jones Anderson, Kelli Finglass and others while Thomas Rhett performed two different rehearsals (about 30 minutes apart). It was clear the Charlotte is very involved in all aspects of the half-time show. Between the two performances there was long discussion of how to stage the lights, etc. and make changes.

I did initially wonder why the Cowboys choose Thomas Rhett as the 1/2 time performer as I was only familiar with a few slow songs from him. He did/will do a great job tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  51. All right, East Tex, give it up. What were you doing at the half-time rehearsal in close proximity to Charlotte?

    ReplyDelete
  52. @1210. If I was read as equating Jerry and Don S., my apologies. They are not anywhere close to the same person. I don't think Jerry has a racist bone in his body. If that was what was read Please forgive me. The comparison was what it would take to unseat Jerry and what he has done is no where near what Don did. And now that the case is all off, well there ya go. sabers sheathed and shake hands.

    I gotta share this.
I have no reason to believe this is not an accurate picture of the man back in the day
