Apologies, Confessors. Slammed out on the plains 24/7. Hoping to keep this joint going in 2018 and will do my best to grab some time for some actual content.
Thought about doing a drydock lookback, but my listening was pretty spotty. Maybe you guys can fill in with some reviews below.
In the meantime, I thought we'd go demure-and-fetching for our first ginger of 2018.
Thanks for your patience, and drop a line. After almost nine years, I'll appreciate any ideas for some topics I haven't already done to death. Or drop me an essay and if it's good I'll run it as a feature.
I may be demure and fetching, but I'm getting pretty sick of clicking on MTC and finding a whole lot of nothing new. Guess I'll switch on The Hardline. |

Major station announcement was Ticketstock. Back to Irving Convention Center. Headliner will be Jerry Rice.
ReplyDeleteAs always, the Big Announcement is not quite as big as they make it out to be. That said, Jerry Rice is a legend, and a great choice. Could be some interesting conversations.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that every morning, when Donovan greets TC, TC replies in a condescending tone? Either he's purposely giving attitude or he doesn't understand how he's coming across. Or it's just me. Anyone else notice this?
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy Gordon's bit about living in an apartment complex. Not sure why, but it makes me laugh every time.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that there has been no politics during muse n the news this week. No mention of Trump at all. I wonder if they decided to tone it down for the new year.
ReplyDeleteTC? Condescending? To his betters?
ReplyDeleteWell, Bob just Tweeted that today was his last Cowboys column for the DMN. A shitty paper just got shittier.
ReplyDeleteWell, f a duck, Bob's no longer gonna be a voice of truth for the Cows at the DMN, and Psnoot no so subtly hints at closing shop. What a pisser of a year, and we're only 5 days in. Shit.
ReplyDeleteWonder what happened with Bob and the DMN and what it means for Bob? Another football analysis opportunity? Something that will conflict with the DMN, and so, he had to leave? Innarestin' for certain.
As for MTC, man, I hope this isn't the slo-burn end of the affair. But I do understand if it is. After all, MTC was founded upon Ticket upheaval. Said upheaval and its fallout lasted about two years. From that point, other than the near departure-last minute deal to stay BaD contract many years ago and a few JV departures (TC's being the most talk worthy), there hasn't been a lot to sink our teeth into. Despite the many predictions (mine included over the years), nothing earth shattering since GW's firing has occurred. And with the industry the way it is and the way it's going, the likelihood of any major event happening is rather slim. The only thing I can see going down is either an "off-field" personal downfall/catastrophe, something said career-suicide wise on-air (if that was gonna happen, it would've a million times already), or retirement and the settling of the dust afterward. But who knows when the latter will happen (it will)? The very fact that this MTC conversation has gone on this long is extraordinary when you think of the instant gimme something new NOW interwebz time. Extraordinary, indeed. I for one hope it continues. Stay Hard, Pslice.
9 years? damn. that is staying power in the intertoobz
ReplyDeleteNine years in June, so call it 8.5.
ReplyDeleteMan with Bob stepping away from the DMN I cant help but think the one thing short of host death that will shake things up is Bob going big time and taking on some sort of national role. He really is a station treasure and the most likely to be able to cash in on greener pastures. I selfishly hope not but there have been so many hints and jokes on BaD about Bob taking one job or another that I think it may come to pass someday soon.
ReplyDeleteStars hockey play-by-play probably doesn't pay as well as the Ticket gig, but he wouldn't have to work every day either.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that Bob is the only one on the Little One that has the chops to make it on a more sports centric media, has anyone ever considered that perhaps he just wants to lighten his load and spend more time with his family. That’s the reason he gave for giving up the Cowboys pre-game show. I have always wondered when the guy sleeps. Between show prep (something he is probably best at short of maybe Norman Adolf), Stars commitments, this column, and doesn’t he do some research for Aikman to prep for his broadcast, how does he find the time. Not to mention keeping up with those monthly movies and the Tivo segments. I have two boys under 3 and between my 50 hr/week job and trying not to raise psychopaths, my only free time is from about 9-11 pm.
ReplyDeleteHis analysis has always been top notch between the hash marks and blue lines. I hope he sticks around. I haven’t meandered this way in a couple of months and hadn’t heard the rumors of MTC closing the barn doors. That would be a loss too but I get it. It’s a commitment that I wouldn’t have time for either.
Another guess is that that column is a lot of work and DMN probably doesn't pay much for his labor. Sometimes, an extra gig just isn't worth it.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered if the full-time Cowboys beat guys resent the non-newspaper guy coming in and writing the most popular morning-after column in the paper.
Looks like Bob might have just gotten a better offer. He tweeted that his column will be back soon
ReplyDeleteJust listened to the Jason Witten show. Interesting that Bob and Jason danced around the issue of Jason playing less. Bob phrased the question around "playing less or taking a breather" and Jason answered along those lines. To me, the question should have been more direct. Do you feel that a pass catching tight end should be able to get yards downfield rather than simply catching the buttonhook and immediately getting hit, not to mention simply getting open. And I believe Jake and possibly Dan have brought this up (not to Jason). No doubt he can still put a hit on a LB or DE at the line, but I was hoping for a more direct question and answer about the receiving end of things.

ReplyDeleteI think it is easy in hindsight to look back and say Bob soft-pedaled the question to Witten. Bob is not a news reporter in this context - they are friends. Bob didn't want to piss him off and destroy the relationship. Witten seemed a little on edge so I commmend Bob for even asking it at all. And I think while it wasn't the most direct question, I felt that Witten understood Bob's intent loud and clear.
ReplyDeleteI guess it’s just a little off to hear other hosts talk about it and know that it’s an issue, but you can’t really ask the question.
