Ticket Seismic Change Thread

React here.

Your Plainsman will try to be by his keyboard to comfort or celebrate.  (Considering the range of opinions on what's good and what's not, probably both.)

  4. I am reminded of Ron Chapman's stunt of asking listeners to send in $20. No reason was given. No promise of a prize or payoff. They collected a total of about $250,000 just because Ron said send it in.

So we're all going to be by the channel at 3:30 today because they said to.

White Elephant everyday would be like eating a hot dog on a stick dog every day washed down with a large Orange Julius. Eventually you would get tired of seeing the girl with the phallic shaped striped hat handing you that dog on a stick, no matter how tempting it sounds at first. White Elephant every day would make me eventually dine at a different food court

  7. WED as in permanent host swaps. Meaning more than one move. I think that's what the comment intended. I'm beginning to think that the announcement will entail the number one all time moment and the introduction of Jake as the new HL host. Though I must admit that neither warrants an all hands on deck station announcement. Basically, I'm at a loss. In four hours, I won't. In the interim, I'll keep hunting for Easter eggs.

  8. Today's Wake and Jake at 12:10-12:15 may be the last ever. Will likely drop some hints in the montage.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Agree with 1121 that if it's just Jake moving to 3-7 it doesn't require ALL this hype or everyone to be present for the announcement. So it seems like this is going to be huge. If it's just Jake and a producer move I'm going to be pretty pissed off.

    ReplyDelete
  10. As best as I can tell, so far every Ticket host with the exception of Norm has been declared a lock to move to 3-7.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Donnie just goes before the mix "it's what you're expecting...i'll just say that....we'll talk to Bob and Dan next"

I'm not sure he realizes how much of a spoiler that was. Because that explicitly means either Jake to THL or it's some BS ticketstock/event announcement (which they said it wasn't earlier lol).

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm maintaining that 3;30 will be a big nothing. The hosts have been over-the-top teasing so much that either (a) this announcement will be about something else entirely; or (b) it will be about the Hardline staying as is, and everyone else staying put.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Also be prepared for about three false starts before they get to the actual announcement.

  17. you guys just can't see what a gigantic troll this has been

  18. Not everyone cannot see it. I'ts been kinda funny to watch, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I can’t believe this announcement! This will ruin the ticket! This is the beginning of the end!! The sky is falling! The ticket is DONE!!
(Just wanted to get the obligatory doomsday comment out of the way, so hopefully we can keep those comments to a minimum around here after 3:30 today. The demise of the station had been predicted in comments on this blog since the blog’s inception, and will undoubtedly proliferate after today’s news, whatever it is, but one can still hope for some decorum...)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm starting to think someone is returning and as a result someone is moving to a new time.

On another note, I do wonder why people like 236 waste their time on reading a blog and its comments (and per the comment, for many years), much less making a comment in said blog.....that they find so ridiculous? It's village atheist like.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I merely find the constant proclamations of the “end of the ticket” here laughable. I never said the blog is ridiculous...it’s fantastic, apart from that, which is why I continue to shop at MTC!

  21. what a shitty day to debut a radio show on another station in the market.
    lol.

    ReplyDelete
  22. They started going really hard on the misdirection/trolling after the Bob rumor slipped

    ReplyDelete
  23. @247 "someone is returning"

Who is big enough to leave, have a show, then come back?

    ...Come on.

    ReplyDelete
  24. T-minus 35 mins. WTDS, a beak, and then our worlds might be rocked. Stomach, queasy. Edge of seat. Rip the bandaid off already!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think the idea of the end of The Ticket is not the literal demise of the station, but rather the end of the station as many have known it for 25+ years. Big change frightens most.

    ReplyDelete
  26. T minus 16 minutes but the more they joke around about the big announcement the more I think it's a simple meh such as moving Jake to HL. If it was really world shaking they wouldn't be F'n around like this. We have been duped I think we will soon find out.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They wouldn't ask hosts to come back to the station merely to welcome Jake to the Varsity squad. Whatever is going down, and even if it is Jake, there's more to it.

    Here we go.

  36. Sorry for all of you who think BaD is the best thing on The Ticket. I've long thought Bob and Dan needed to be broken up more than Mike and Corby. This is good for Bob, Dan, and Corby. And, to some extent, Danny.

So I like the move. I will say, however, that it will be interesting to see how two people who love the mic as much as Bob and Corby will fit together. I think it will be fine.

Still listening to hear what's happened with Bob's midday vacancy. I'm a few minutes behind on the stream.

    1. You haven't missed anything. Stretching it across two segments. Advertisers for the 3:50 window are getting their money's worth....

  37. Well, I was wrong. I like Bob, though, so this works out better for me. Hope he gets a raise. I agree that he and Corby both want the microphone, so there would be some potential tension there. Hopefully Corby will chop off Bob in the midst of a 7-minute question. If so, we all win.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This move definitely has me tuning back in as I drive home.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Will both shows get new names...certainly no more BaD...but guess Hardline can live on

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree that this makes me more interested in tuning back in for 3-7. It was rough at the end of the Mike era and unbearable for the last few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Looks like that 330am all caps, breathless commenter knew what they were talking about.

My favorite thing in all of this are those here and on reddit who so cocky sniffingly claimed over and again how we were getting trolled.

And btw, this is in effect the end of The Ticket as we've known it at least since 2007, post Greggo. Sorry, adding Donnie to BaD and then Norm isn't the same in impact.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good for Jake.

Now, if Justin Montemayor produces middays, I think it's a hat trick for Jeff Catlin.

    ReplyDelete
  43. And an official promotion for Jake to Tier 1 by Judge Junior.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Very excited about this. I will be tuning in 12-7 with a frequency that I haven't in years now. Absolutely jazzed!

    ReplyDelete
  45. So does this mean that when Norm retires, Donny and Mike will be taking over the 10-12 time slot? it seems to be panning out that way.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I wrote on this very blog the day, the one day Bob plus oned that I could listen to that everyday from here on out. And I'll be damned! Very stoked!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Good for Jake. It's nice to see talent and hard work rewarded. In some ways the pairings both seem odd couple-ish to me, but so were Bob and Dan and Mike and Corby.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Corby just said Sirois 10-12 news next. Now that could be trolling, but I hope not. Hope he'll be made the official third host. But yes, I agree that these bold moves set up a Sirois/Donnie 10-12 when Norm retires, which I think is coming down very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I guess Danny isn't aware of MTC. Bob to 3-7 had been bandied about here since the announcement of the announcement.

Not bad for a bunch tinfoil hat wearers.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah. I don't think any Hardline guys every stop by here for a cup of coffee. We had at least two, maybe more, commenters who claimed inside info who said it was Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  51. We'll, I like Bob a lot...with Dan! I'll give a chance, but, I don't see it. Changes aren't always better. The Hardline was never as good as it was before Corby came on board.

  52. Im just glad The Plainsman decided not to lock the doors last yr

    ReplyDelete
  53. Actually, a couple of people said Bob and that Jake would be with Dan before So did.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My God! I'm already sick of Corby!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dan definitely knows how to, and enjoys, tweaking Jake's nose. I hope he can resist the daily temptation, because it doesn't make for great radio.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Who/where said it first?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Go back several threads and start looking from there. Think if it as the Sports Day app.

    You’re right. Jubalaya wins

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree with Plainsman that there has always been an awkward aspect to Bob and Dan's relationship, and that that tension isn't a good thing. I believe this move, on both ends, is for the best going forward. We've truly embarked on The Ticket 2.0. Corby hinted at it but nothing specific was said regarding the theme. I hope today was the last time we ever hear that familiar chord progression. I want to remember it frozen in time, with Mike giving his beautiful and original sign off, just as they did today: "Stay hard, keep jammin' and we'll see ya."

Twenty five plus years. For my entire adult life you've been my constant, my goosebumps, fist in the air "f*** yeah!," can't leave my car and now I'm late because there's no way in hell I'm missing this, right there with you, right there with me, best buddy. Family. Thank you Mike, Gregg, Corby, Danny, Ty, Mino, Psycho Dave, Expo, Cat, Kevin Scott, Mark Followill, and everyone else who was ever a part of it. I've never met any of you, but you've all meant the world to me. I can't begin to thank you enough.

    Stay hard, Hardline.

    ReplyDelete
  60. @8:51
You choked me up there, pal. That pretty much says it all. Rhyner leaving didn't seem real to me until today. Reading your thoughts brought it home. Good on ya.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree change isn't always good. I will not listen 12-3. I'm a big fan of Dan. I think he's funny and has great bits. Jake has a bag. I have no interest in anything he has to say. He brings nothing to the table. I'm also iffy about 3-7. I'm a fan of Corby and Danny but Bob does nothing for me. He's Guy Sports. I don't see the chemistry working at all. This is a panic move since they got their a$$ handed to them in the ratings by The fail.

I've been a ticket listener since the beginning and this is a sad day to me. It officially is no longer the station I grew up listening to. The Old Grey Wolf leaving has really shot the wheels off things.

Guess I'll be listening to a lot of podcasts going forward. IJB won't be one of them.

Stay hard Mike Rhyner. Thanks for all you did.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I find myself wondering whether the better decision would have been Bob and Jake in the current BaD spot, and Dan and Corby in the Hardline spot. Bob and Jake would be VERY sportsy, but still capable of fun. Dan and Corby would be a lot of fun, but still capable of serious sports talk. Most of the BaD bits would travel with Dan, b/c Bob and Jake wouldn't need them. Temperamentally, Bob and Jake seem well suited, as do Corby and Dan.

    We'll never know...

    ReplyDelete
  63. No tension between Bob and Dan. That's coming from people including Plainsman that acknowledge they rarely listen to Bob and Dan. BaD was simply one of the best few hours in radio. Very free flowing conversation plus a combo of humor and intense sports chops. I think Jake and Dan will work very well together as will Bob and Corby. Bob and Corby have been very good together when they have done things together like post game shows, NFL draft shows etc. Bob has underrated humor and pop culture sensibilities plus impeccable sports aptitude. The Little Ticket will be strong going forward!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I always thought that Dan played the role of the "adult in the room" on BaD. He is being replaced by someone who was puking in a trash can on air last Friday as part of an eating challenge. I am concerned that the Noon-3pm will turn into the equivalent of a kids high school basement, which is not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  65. While I'm not sure about this whole thing, I realize something had to be done so they did something. I think Bob gives THL some instant credibility in terms of real sports talk instead of two dudes (Danny and Corby) kind of farting around and playing it loose. THL will definitely be more structured and Corby will have to cede to Bob in a lot of sports conversations. Also, Bob is no fool when it comes to trivia, movies, or anything else (his music knowledge might be questionable, dunno).

As far as Dan and Jake? I'm not too sure about that. I think a key component will be who they get as producer (aka third talking voice). If it's Justin or even Mine it might work. The biggest problem I see is Dan is so much older than the rest of that crew (by about ten to fifteen years). I'm not sure the generation gap can be bridged easily. We'll see, I suppose.

Curious to @The Plainsman why he feels so strongly that Bob and Dan needed to be broken up. What did you see to be the problem there?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I've listened to BaD quite a bit in the last year owing to a change in my schedule.

My opinion of it changed almost not at all -- a lot of brilliance, but a lot of bog.

    Jake's introduction a major improvement.

    Julie's introduction also great.

    Bob = Bob.

Dan = . . . hmm. Could be great especially when Bob wasn't around. But too often he'd issue some piece of gratuitous nastiness, not funny, just pointlessly sarcastic and rude (and boggy). I'd stare at the radio, and you could feel his colleagues in the studio pause, and occasionally one would mumble something like "not sure where that came from." He was also the maestro of the straw man argument, absurdly distorting someone else's point and criticizing the distortion.

    BoG Radio.

I think he will be a lot better with Jake, where his natural intelligence can shine. He won't have to act out to compete with Bob anymore. And I like Jake a lot, and he'll bow up to Dan if Dan gets out of line in a way that Bob was too sweet to do. I'm expecting a better midday all around.

Our different impressions of each team are funny when taken as a whole. In my eyes, we're now going to see the strongest part of BaD Radio paired with the HL ... which was the weakest show even with Mike over the last 2-4 years. Lots of give up there. Bob will strengthen them immensely and finally bring someone to the show that's doing some research.

Adding Jake to Dan finally gives me the freedom to abandon the 12-3 slot almost entirely. It's unfortunate but for whatever reason, Jake has outshined others and gets the nod. Dan is, in my eyes, about 20% funny and 80% a beating, and Jake is great when he talks sports but terrible at everything else. His bag is light, but it's not nothing.

10-3 on the ticket could be rough for them going forward or until Norm moves on. I'd love to see a Musers 5:30 - 9, Boom in Da House 9-12, D&J 12-3, and Bob & Corb 3-7 within the next few years. Boom 9-12 would be great. One can hope.

Going forward though I am excited about Bob & Corb. They have mixed really well during White Elephants.

  68. I wonder if Corby is unhappy about this change. Hardline will go from being his show, essentially, to being very much a shared show. Maybe he'll find that a relief, though.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Even Corby has to know that the last month was a sh*t show. I think he's just relieved that it's settled and his status is not in question.

“In the 15 years I’ve been doing this, I’ve never met anybody that has a better idea of what they want their show to sound like than Dan,” Kemp said. “I’ve learned how he does a show from him. So, to be doing a show with the guy I learned how to do a show from, it’s a very easy transition for me. He’s exceptional. I don’t know that most people understand how great he is at his job.”

    ReplyDelete
  71. I can say with apodictic certainty that despite all the "this is gonna be the best ever" talk by the on air staff, there is genuine concern up there that this could blow up in their faces to such a degree that a genuine makeover, from Cat on down, will occur. Cumulus is watching, closely.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Could be, 1204. I'm sure the recent ratings kerfluffle has some people nervous, even if Nielsen has screwed things up. Changes this major are always going to generate anxiety among management.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yes, that's why I predicted--wrongly--that management would only move one piece at a time: Jake into Hardline slot. This is a lotta change at once. For some audience members, two shows are about to get worse.

  74. Feel like this arrangement (moving Bob to the hardline) was done to preserve Corby’s massive but fragile ego from the humiliation of being “demoted” to 12-3. Would have made much more sense to move BaD to afternoon drive.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I hadn't listened regularly to 3:30-7 for quite a few years. That changes today.

Will continue to listen to 12-3 very hard.

  78. Great WTDS. Laugh out lout moments. Dan and Jake was OK. Oddly, their best segment was the one on baseball. The Hardline retro intro was pretty cool. Interested to see what segments are being jettisoned off the bat.

    ReplyDelete
  79. IMO there was some forced overlaughing at the beginning of WTDS but then they settled down to business as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree David Dodenhoff; two shows about to get worse! The Corby fake laugh is nauseating! I'm really surprised Bob agreed to this. I've already switched over to ESPN a few times. You're still stuck with Corby steroid infused TMZ over-excitement!

  84. Some of the haters on this thing are utterly ridiculous in their pronouncements and understanding of how the world works. Asinine doesn't begin to aptly describe these comments.

I'm looking forward to these hosts gelling. I think it'll happen in fairly short order. While I only got to listen to a few snippets of Dan and Jake, what I heard was just fine. I was able to hear the entirety of Corby and Bob, which was understandably heavy on how we got to this juncture talk. There was too much E-News-ish material for my taste, but I'm hoping a better balance between sports and entertainment will be struck. Indeed, I'm sure it will, as Sports Sturm isn't Sports Sturm for nothing. The few sports segments they did do were excellent. I did find the intro to be really neat and even interesting. Interesting in that it did not introduce Danny as producer, but rather he was pretty much given 3rd host credit a la Gordo. The other tidbit was Corby saying that there are more changes coming. I have to think the Norm issue is coming to a head.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Fair enough anon 9:18pm. But with me, they're certain personality traits that are hard to fight thru. For some reason, it wasn't too noticeable the last few weeks, but last couple days, back with blunt force; that damn nerve-grating, fingernails-to-chalkboard fake Corby laugh! Anyone that claims thats not annoying are one of two things...relatives, or lying...or both! I agree with commenter that said they wanted to avoid embarrassment of demoting Corby to tier two. They really should have retired "The Hardline" right along with Rhynes, and just auditioned fresh, new, unheard of talent, and introduced a whole show and name.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Slinky, I'm sorry but your last two thoughts just doesn't make any sense. Neither comports with reality of how successful businesses are run. Especially the second one.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I know I bag on Corby a lot but he kind of deserves it. He got the Tier 1 position on THL because Greggo got canned and Susequehanna, or whomever owned Ticket at the time, in their infinite wisdom, decided to not replace Williams, but insert Davidson. Davidson, for years, was just kind of a yuck monkey; much like what Gordon does on The Musers (but far less funny).(Can you imagine Gordon replacing George, for instance, on The Musers?) Corby wasn't a sports guy. Since replacing Williams, however, Corby has upped his game and became a knowledgeable sports host, but he still falls back too much on being a hack and being cool frat guy (god, I wish they'd bag the "Entertainment News/TMZ" segment as I HATE IT, but it's a staple of the show) :: sigh :: (Side bar: I'd wager that the whole Corby thing weighed Rhyner down after a time and was in part a reason he quit. It probably just got to be too much).

As to the changing shows, In my opinion, It would have made more sense to just move BaD Radio intact to drive time instead of separating them. I guess the idea was keep two things the same: Dan at BaD and Corby at THL instead of a total upheaval of creating a new show with Jake and Corby (or whomever). I'm sure Bennett and Catlin agonized over this for weeks before they pulled the trigger on what to do. Was it the right call? We'll see.

Hopefully, the Sturm/Davidson thing will work as I really like Bob and I'm sure he took this position with a slight amount of trepidation (for the record I did not listen to Sturm/Davidson yesterday - good/bad/awward?) I did catch a bit of Jake/Dan and it seemed okay. Hoping for the best for The Ticket, but I'm bracing for the worst.

  88. Interesting Twitch stream from Sirois last night. When asked in the chat about him not getting a host position, he said he's waiting to see how the next few months go. That depending on how things go, he might be open to listening to competitor's offers if offered.

Not that anyone cares, but I have a view of Sirois that differs from what most here and on reddit hold.

  91. Another damn misinformation fest from Danny and Corby regarding the innocent poor little misunderstood pit bull. They even referenced that Gordo is anti-pit and has done the research. Over 65% of all dog fatalities are caused by pits although they represent only 4% of the dog population. Corby also said it's the wild pits that do the killing not the family pets. Wrong. Out of the 100s of pit bull dog bite fatalities over the past many years a whopping 53 percent was the family pit killing a family member or the owner. Who could have possibly known....

As much as Corby thinks he is doing the right thing rescuing pits the best thing that could happen for society is if the breed was humanely euthanized or allowed to go extinct by eliminating breeding.

After listening the past two days, I think Bob and Corby are going to be fine.

Danny is going to be the issue. He and Bob just don't mix well and I think it's because no one mixes well with Danny outside of Corby.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hey y'all, my pit....just kidding.

Two days in and I think DaJ is going to be a winner. Two days in and I think CBD might have serious problems. The show is being promoted as having three hosts, Corby, Bob, and Danny. And by the sound of the show so far, Bob is the third wheel. Over the past month Danny has come to really like the mic. If he's been named third host, like it seems he has, then he's only doing his job. Whatever the case, this isn't good. Bob is deferring on every segment. D and C are not only dominating every segment, nearly the entire show is Enews in some guise.

Starting to think they got the pairings wrong. Or at least naming Danny as third host was a mistake. If he isn't, then both the promo is misleading and Cat needs to tell him to back off a bit.

  97. I agree that Bad 2.0 is already running smoothly, but that's to be expected. Dan and Jake have done probably 50+ shows together already. Mino producing today and I have to think if he wants it, he get the gig.

I also agree that Weird Hardline is gonna need some time. Also agree that we need much less Danny. He needs to contribute less and certainly should not be leading any segments. Put The Pigpen out to pasture please.

I disagree that Bob is deferring on every segment. He is and will dominate any sports segments as per usual. That's why he's there. What I'm hearing is him being very nervous and tentative, with quite a bit of false enthusiasm and inflated reactions. He just needs some time to settle back in to his voice.

Well stated. Bob will settle in and find his lane, but I imagine the whole set up is pretty jarring. He's completely out of his comfort zone and Danny I think is far too comfortable.

  98. It's also a tough time of the year for a guy like Bob. This is the slowest time of the year for the NFL and that's where he shines. I'll be interested how quickly they start ramping up draft talk

    ReplyDelete
  99. I think Danny deserves the benefit of the doubt right now on microphone time. We all know that Mike was checking out and Danny had to help Corby fill the time. That situation intensified when Mike left and they needed Danny to be an additional voice in the room. Danny will need some time to re-normalize as Bob becomes the alpha dog on the shift.

  100. Fair points, Surly. Look, I know it's early early early days. But this is the time for Cat or even Bob to step in and say "hey guys, we made the move and chose these pairings for a reason. THL is not what it had become post Greggo. That is, mostly waxing on outdated pop culture with a bit of sports thrown in." Because right now, there's no difference between the new pm drive and what went on before. The only difference is you got one guy who isn't in on the "joke," and that guy also happens to be one of the best sports media minds in the metro area. If this continues on, it'll become the norm. If that occurs, P1s and Cat, we have a problem.

  101. Let me also add that I have nothing against Danny. I like the cut of his jib. But he's not a daily host. He was great on The Orphanage, a once per week, if even that, endeavor. He also is very good when popping on Jer.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Boy, if Danny's new opening read is tired and unfunny on Day 2, how will it feel in a thousands days?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Gotta agree. The first half is cool, then he steps in with the dark cloud bit and it just makes no sense. Sounds like a weekend show opening, not pm drive. I don't like being negative this early on. I was excited for the new HL. Let's hope Surly is right.

  104. Well, if The FAN is kicking so much ratings ass, then why are they doing this?

I wondered the same thing. Broaddus brings some nice insight (especially at Draft season) but you'd think if they were actually dominating that you wouldn't mess with the ingredients.

  105. Surly, and anon 2:16 you got me thinking about this. The original Hardline ended up being a show where Corby and Danny made fun of Mike. It made me so uncomfortable that I had to tune out occasionally. It was a very frequent theme: Corby and Danny poke fun at Mike because he's old, or whatever. It wasn't always good-natured; it sometimes seemed to cross the line into being mean spirited and disrespectful. Ain't nobody got time for that.

If Hardline 2.0 turns into Corby and Danny make fun of Bob, I'm out. As a church-going person, I've been sensitive, possibly over sensitive to the critcism of Christians by Corby/Danny. Now if Bob, who is well-known as a man of God, becomes the butt of the jokes over his religiosity, it will bother me, and in my opinion, will not be any better radio than before.

    ReplyDelete
  106. No way Corby didn't brief his kids on their opinion of Bob before that interview. Don't believe that for a second.

You nailed it. I am a Tesla owning Atheist with truck nut envy. The burden isn't on atheist guy as they dont believe there is sufficient evidence of a deity. The burden is on the theist guy making the assertion.

    From Webster
    Definition of atheist
a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods

The assertion is that there is a god - prove it. I don't need to prove that I don't believe a god exists. An Atheist does not claim that there is no way a god can exist but instead maintains they have no evidence that one does exist. Show me the evidence. You are wrong from a logical argument perspective

  112. @Tangent and @6:39AM: Agree completely. The Corby/Danny self-proclaimed superiority pretty much made me stop listening except for baseball season (for Mike baseball talk) and even then I was a frequent punch-out. So far I've been back in since Bob has been there, but I agree - if what @Tangent describes actually happens, I'm out all over again.

  114. I wonder if BaD 2.0 is stilling going to get the Stars Road trip or if that is now going to the weird Hardline or simply gone all together?

Jake and Dan are way ahead of CBD right now but that's to be expected. It is going to take a while for CBD to gel and find their own voice. Bob has by far the hardest adjustment to make with the change. He's coming into a show with a huge legacy, filling a legends spot and trying to find his place with two guys who have 13 years of chemistry built already.

    1. If you go to the Ticket's website, the photo on the page given to each individual show is now changed. for example, Mike has been removed from the Hardline page and it's Bob and Corby. As of Wednesday, this change hadn't happened yet.

  121. I'm liking the new HL intro. Well, until Danny speaks. Is it me or does he come off as not so passive aggressive and bitter. "Stupid Hardline" and the likes does not get the listener jazzed for the show. That's the stuff a self-deprecating weekend show puts out for an intro. I should add that I think the special guest part is funny and has legs; and so does the"two guys who...." late night talk show homage. But the "Stupid Hardline" and names along that line is something that Cat needs to stop yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  122. They know radio better than all of us. Subjective talk. They are good, and much Sportsy facts during 3-7. Love it. "Here we are now, entertain us." They bring it.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Comedians know comedy better than all of us, too. But we get to decide whether or not they're funny. Apply analogy accordingly.

  124. Today's HL was the first time I've thought yeah this thing is gonna be just fine. Better than that, it's gonna be excellent. Bob was Bob and that's the key.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah it’s getting better fast. However, Danny still should never lead a segment.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Agree with Anon 4:10
Enough of Danny calling it "stupid HL". HL 2.0 is just fine if that is what they want to stick with. I think the opening is relatively brilliant in how it pays homage to the original HL predating Corby and Danny. Cat - Let's go with HL 2.0 and quit with the fake over self deprecating "stupid HL"

  127. I was wondering if Bacsik's move to middays had something to do with his FSSW/Rangers duties? Because, as others have pointed out, if the ratings are so boffo across the board, why then would you mess with success? You wouldn't unless you know the ratings aren't truly indicative of the landscape and/or if one of your talent (who happens to be your most liked and disliked personality) needs to reshuffle his schedule if you're going to retain his services.

  129. Anyone catch today's THL intro? Did Danny continue with the not so passive aggressive "Stupid Hardline" or the likes?

    ReplyDelete
  130. No, he merely referred to it as “3 to 7”, but went back to self-deprecation by calling it “America’s faaavorite drive-time show at this time of day, on this station”. Think it’s going to be this kind of bit going forward.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Thanks for the info, 644. Well let's hope that at some point soon he ceases that silliness. It's Dylan the Angst Ridden Argumentative Teen stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I've always liked Danny, but he definitely has a 'too cool for school' attitude. His past promos have been dripping with sarcasm and fake enthusiasm. Remember the ones he did with Mike and Corby for "Texas Land and Cattle"? He was SO over the top. His "Gentleman Jack" whiskey spots were much the same. I think he even lost a car promotional spot because he was so insincere. He's a very talented guy, but sometimes it seems like parts of his job don't gibe with who wants to be when he's not on the radio.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Indeed, Euronymous, there does seem to be the issue of worlds colliding.

Is Monty now a permanent member of BaD? If so, good on him.

    ReplyDelete

  134. If Danny's got a talent, I'd say it's rolling in the occasional grenade from the sidelines, with a kill rate of maybe 30%. Or, if you put him on a show that's being subversive 24/7--the Orphanage--then he's great. I'm not particularly enjoying him in his current role on the Hardline, though.

    ReplyDelete
  135. PMan - you are one of a select few on an island with your opinions of BaD Radio. I am going to surmise you pop-on *only occasionally* and probably heard their B game a couple times in a row. Whereas THL regularly brought their C/D game, and Rhynes brought his Incomplete game more often than not. BaD was a close second to the Musers, not even a distant second. And they didn't have nearly as many "generic sports guy regurgitated segment" talk that the Musers tend to have (and I still love the Musers).

    ReplyDelete
  136. Agree 1000% with 512p1. BaD was the only show preparing and breaking new sports points and perspectives with regularity. I think Pman’s opinion is more of the caricature the Musers and HL have painted of BaD, rather than actual BaD itself. Fun, fresh, energetic, and also sportsy (much less generic than those who muse so gently, as much as I love them)

    ReplyDelete
  137. I love the Musers too, but I am just about done with them. The sports segments are just so incredibly generic. And even the non-sports segments, which I used to really enjoy, are wearing me out. Gordo, for all his genius, has basically turned into nothing but a troll and gaslighter. I know that stuff isn’t exactly new for him, but he used to mix in a good bit of fun, interesting commentary too. I don’t even feel like he’s making a serious effort to contribute anymore; it seems like he’s just waiting for the next chance to make one of his stupid name puns. That said, he can always win me back with a fun character; see, e.g. Cupid last week. Had one of the funniest, most disgusting lines that made me laugh out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Thoughts in week 2:
    1) I find myself not making BAD Radio appointment listening anymore. I actually feel bad about it because I really like both Dan and Jake.
    2) I am more interested in the Hardline 2.0 than I was Hardline 1.5, given that afternoon drive was podcast time for me for a couple of years.
    3) To anon 7:12, Gordo is what he is. His biggest problem is he has a short attention span with his own characters and has to ratchet it up with every 8:40 bit. Fake Tiger has to be more ridiculous every time. The exception is fake Jerry, which is so frequent, he can't afford to do it. But man, if I hear the Ticket Mouse is going to be on, I will cancel a conference call to listen at 8:40.

  140. Gordon is the kind of guy that loves chaos. He thrives on it. One of his chief motivations on the show is to throw a monkey wrench into something and giggle while it sputters and careens off path. Dan, on BaD Radio, seemed to like to do this as well with his untimely and often borderline inappropriate humor. Yet, I find both still very funny and amusing.

I do agree that The Musers "sports talk" is fairly generic and I blame that more on George than Craig. Craig seems to have a good handle on what he's talking about, rarely gets sidetracked, and speaks with authority. George, on the other hand, doesn't seem to prepare as well and is often wishy washy in terms of his opinions (unless it's about Tony Romo playing golf).

My biggest disappointment is the breaking up of Bob and Dan. Jake and Dan are fine, but lack the chemistry and potential conflict (at least so far) that Sturm and McDowell could have. It was usually very brief with Bob and Dan, but, sometimes, extremely awkward and, very often, amusing.

Not thrilled with the Hardline 2.0 but I like Bob so much I want to see it succeed for his sake. That said, if the chemistry ultimately doesn't look like it's going to work, take Bob back to BaD Radio and do something else with Jake.

Finally, love most of Gordon's characters, but many seem to sound the same anymore. Unlike many, I cannot stand the Ticket Mouse, Clarence the maintenance man, and Jesse the usher. I find none of them funny.
