A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Happy 95th Birthday, Jonathan Winters (RIP 2013)
And, by the way, Alex Trebek's predecessor as Jeopardy! host, Art Fleming (in my view, a better host than AT), also died of pancreatic cancer (RIP 1995).
To all of the amateur statisticians that have invaded the media (and sports media), yes there is a strong correlation. It is sad how little the media understands, they just spew numbers.
I just heard a guy on CNBC state that Utah's 'positivity rate' is 20%. He said that means if you get on an airplane with 300 people in Salt Lake City, 60 of them will have covid. No kidding, Andrew Ross Sorkin said that.
I wonder if this weeks Boom with Saad in the producers chair is something of a trial run and a hint at what's to come. Hopefully not to soon for Norm's sake, but with Norm's continued health issues I am once again wondering if despite the new contract if Norm might cut back or call it a career after the 2020 Normathon. I've enjoyed the week and Saad seems to have good chemistry with Jer, Julie, Donny & Mike.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who preferred Art Fleming as the Jeopardy host (probably showing my age).
Jonathan Winters was one of my all-time favorite comedians; my Dad had his first comedy album(made in 1962, I think), and I wore that thing out listening to it. One of the funniest comedy albums of all time.
Without Jonathan Winters there would have been no Robin Williams. Winters opened the door for the standup guys who did voices, characters, and zany off the cuff improvisations. Lenny Bruce broke ground for the likes of George Caelin and Richard Pryor, Winters was the King of Clean comedy at the time.
Sorry, but for the first time ever I am "meh" about WED. I used to take off work for it. Now, eh not so much buddy. The magic is gone. Too much about the side players now. And the force feeding of Jake as Alpha Tier One is grating. Yes I get it, he's the new kid on the block (whoa oh, oh, oh, oh) and you wanna show some "you're one of us now, kid" love. But it feels like he's being shoved down my throat.
I don't give a flyin' eff what the ratings say, this thing has become a mediocrity.
One more thing: Whoever made the decision to bring JJT back on ought to be shitcanned immediately.
Why stop now? HSO....Jdobbs... A real nice gal with a bright future in the biz, I got nothing against her personally. Nevertheless, I'm not digging her (like Jake) being shoved down my throat.
I wonder what would happen if Gordo sat in with an actual group of experts in (insert the area that he suddenly becomes an authority in by reading pop literature on the subject by journalists trying to sell a book or reel in hits for an article--e.g., A.I, or pretty much anything he talks about)? I think we all know the answer. He wouldn't fare too well, eh, buddy.
Predictions: Rhyner does a (now independently aired) pod with Greggo. It goes so well that it gets him thinking....
Joonz's retires from The Ticket before the calendar year of '21 ends. Take it to the bank, kiddos.
Nope, not gonna make a Norm predict. Just fight like hell and get well, Normy. We all love and appreciate ya, pal.
Sirois gets way to wasted one too many times while on Twitch, pulls a shitty and gets banned.
Between now and March of '21, more established (now old school) JV take their talents elsewhere.
This site is still going and Pfart still keeps "refreshing" threads. I can dig it.
Sadly, to reiterate from above, The Ticket slides further and further into that mediocre goodnight.
Innarestin' thread over at the reddit page pertaining to DryDock, JaM Session (Jean Jacques Taylor and Matt McClearin), and the future of The Ticket. This particular thread reminds me of--excluding the "drop" and trollish comments--Peak MTC back and forths. Cool to see but somewhat bittersweet. Like watching a younger man 4 beers into it chatting up the bartendress whose schedule he's memorized who reminds you of your younger self, when everything meant everything always. She was of the moment, but at that moment, the moment was the whole of the moon. Ah that urgent life. MTC too was once that moment.
I still can’t believe they left us with JJT and McClaren at 3 the rest of the week (and next?). So many better possibilities and they leave us with the radio equivalent of a flaming sack of poop at the door.
Couldn't agree more Anon 12:01 PM I used to look forward to the fun combos of Tier 2 people during dry dock but the 3 to 7 offering this year is incomprehensibly bad. Suffice it to say I am now catching up on a backlog of podcasts for the next 2 weeks. The Hardline fill in show is not even up to the standards of a cable access junior college offering.
Hold on. I thought you were done with the site? How then is it "so dull"? The conversation is solely driven by the few who care to stop by, share a thought, who care to dialogue. And, yet, it's "so dull"? I guess you are saying we who care are dull.
So there is a strong correlation between hosting jeopardy and dying of pancreatic cancer?

ReplyDeleteAnon 7:27 Of course that is ridiculous. No 300 people capacity planes ever land at Salt Lake International. Good observation

Out.
Genius take
DeleteUncle Chunkles is the guy who thinks analytics are a waste of time and basketball should have more low post guys who can't shoot.
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:37 is the guy who thinks that the Rays actually won the World Series.
ReplyDeleteDear 7:37 AM,
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard of the logical fallacy "non sequitur"? If not, you ought to look it up.
With tons of respect and I pre-thought the respect before I wrote "[w]ith tons of respect",

ReplyDeleteDamn I miss them days.
If you were listening to the Hardline a year ago today you were listening to Mike Rhyner's last show.
ReplyDeleteTechnically speaking, yes. Sadly, his last show as OGW was more than a decade ago now.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone noticed that David Newberry's voice and vocal pattering sounds like a strange cross of 4 parts Craig Rossengarden and 1 part David Moore?
ReplyDeleteSorry I can't comment on David Newberry, I never listen to the Cowboys pre/postgame coverage. I know on Reddit they complain about him every week.
ReplyDeleteMy god, has it already been a year since Rhynes retired?
ReplyDeleteHe didn't retire. (So says he)

Oh, come on, 104. You know what I meant.
