I'm Out of the Loop (i.e., Missing Some Shows So May Have Missed News) -- What's the Deal with Conrad?
Per Reddit: 59 minutes ago Corby confirmed on Twitter that it's NOT a permanent change. They needed some promos recorded and the regular guy was out so they had to get somebody else. I don't have an issue with his voice. I just think the writing is something you'd hear on a generic station in LA. Doesn't capture the Ticket's essence at all.
Also, someone on Reddit had mentioned a host had said Conrad was going to retire after the first of the year during drydock. This reaction is similar to when Doc Morgan no longer did voiceovers before Conrad took over.
Bob and Jake are going to change the name of their show. No more Bad Radio.
These are the name change candidates: 1. Ike's Pond 2. The Enablers 3. The Hang Zone 4. The Bone Zone 5. Duck & The Rock 6. Docking with Dan & Jake 7. Victor and Jake (VAJ Radio) 8. The Chamber of Truth 9. Bitburg 10. The Octopus Den
Observation that probably doesn't mean anything, yet might mean a lot:
Putting the not so gradual fading away of MTC aside, I think activity on the reddit page is indicative of how much deep-level interest in The Ticket is out there. If my claim is correct or even somewhat correct, then The Ticket's relevance is well into decline. Especially with the young end of the present prized demo--which, in turn, and even more importantly, means the group behind them has even less interest.
Over the past year--once the buzz from Rhyner's departure and the reshuffling of the lineup subsided--the traffic, number of different commenters, diversity and thoughtfulness of posts, and replies to comments (both in quantity and quality) have all dropped precipitously. Most comments are one or two liners devoid of any depth. Replies usually number in the single digits (as in 2-3).
The causes for this (inevitable) decline are manifold. Current ratings be damned, I truly believe the readily discerned disinterest on reddit is a canary in the coal mine. As far as the current Varsity lineup goes, it will remain in tact for the next year or two. After that, my guess is that major shakeups will occur. Shakeups that come fromm on high, from outside consultants. And if you've ever dealt with outside consultants, well, you know whatever they are allowed to totally upend, to completely uproot and start anew from scratch.....they will.
I would like to file a formal complaint about the young voice talent on a couple of Ticket live-stream commercials: Mark and Madison, Audrey and...Josh, I think.
