A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."
Thanks for the heads up and link, ETP1. Funny how nothing in the what was basically a free advert for the vidcast was mentioned about the quickly swept under the rug Athletic stint. I'd for one would like to know the backstory on that one. So much for full disclosure, eh, Rhyner.
I'll give it a shot, but I'm not expecting much. Rhyner ran outta steam long before his Ticket departure, and the Athletic pod did nothing to counter that fact. Yes, I say "fact" because anyone listening with any attentiveness whatsoever could hear it. His Athletic stint was nothing short of crap. If he wasn't being fawned over while he fawned over his guest, he was barely present. The best episode, hands down, was with Dale Hansen. Only reason why is due to Dale's willing to dish dirt, relate personal anecdotes he probably shouldn't, and his ability to speak about himself for several hours, without interruption. In short, Rhyner didn't have to say a thing, which seems to suit him. (Unless he's waxing the genesis/nascent years of The Ticket.)
Wonder what the overall interest level will be? I gotta think that this is the final go-round as far as What's on Mike's Mind goes. That is what these post-Ticket endeavors are, after all. Another thing, if it wasn't obvious before, it sure is now: he didn't leave The Ticket because he no longer felt he had his A-game/"felt it in his bones"/"just knew it was time" or whathaveyounot. He left for some other reason(s). Obviously it had nothing to do with his coworkers, else he wouldn't be popping on every other week or so. Something in-house made him want to get out. If it was just "time" or a "feeling" then he wouldn't have immediately signed on with The Atheletic, waited for his non-compete to expire, and go live the day it did expire (replete with a silly, attention getting, months long countdown). Then, when that gig mysteriously went poof in a matter of a few weeks, he went to Twitter asking for any takers, and now here he is with a vidcast. Again, I ask the question: what will the overall interest level be?
I do hope it works out for Rhyner. Equally as much, I hope he finds his mojo again. Pre-PT days he was the most compelling person in DFW media, period.
I think you nailed it. They will ultimately destroy it.
