A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

I Will Never Purchase a Product or Services from Welborn Garage Doors
Hoping that all Confessors are maintaining under the difficult conditions currently obtaining in Cool Metro. Your loved ones as well.

I can verify that the 8:12 was not Wellborn as it was me. I am also the one that asked about how the writing was going on the previous post. No idea on 10:38.
Methinks the dissatisfaction might have something to do with the ad spots? Just a guess.
Asking for a friend: How does one get into the songwriting biz? Do you record demos and submit? Submit to whom? Is there some sort of list or something?
I'm serious here, not trolling. I've always been interested in how this aspect of the industry works.
335: I wrote and recorded a number of songs for the Jonathon Brandmeier morning show in Chicago in the 1990s, but that was just parodies with no commercial intent or potential.
I am not extremely knowledgeable about the songwriting biz. If you are not performing your own material, it is difficult to simply write songs and get an established artist interested.
My only (poor) advice is -- find artists that you can actually approach (or their representatives), and ask them to take a look at your song (you will almost have to have some kind of recording of it, even if it's just you and an acoustic guitar).
So -- it helps to know a guy.
One thing to remember is that a successful song is gold for the composer(s) because of continued royalties no matter who records the songs or where it is played. So performers are more than ever writing their own music, or at least are arranging to receive credit for doing so. (Accounting to some extent for the dismal state of pop music these days, if the music station Mrs. Plainsman favors is any evidence). So if you are not a performer, it is difficult to break in on songwriting alone.
I think there are organizations and professionals -- known as "song pluggers" who will "represent" your songs to publishers and possibly artist representatives.
The stuff I'm doing in Nashville right now is the result of a long-time friendship with a professional musician who had a couple of successful albums a long time ago and who now does production and still composes and performs. In other words -- I know a guy.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Plainsman. I really appreciate it. While I do "know some guys," they are in mid-tier outfits on the heavier side of the spectrum. In other words they're not in need nor would ever look for outside writers.
Random comment. I have been listening to K&C Masterpiece. I enjoy their sportstalk. I enjoyed Bacsik when he was on The Ticket. I have been playing the shows in the afternoon on the app.
Direct reply. I too listen to K&C on a semi-regular basis. I too enjoy their sportstalk. I too enjoyed Bacsik when he was on The Ticket and continue to do so on The FAN. I also tune in on Sundays for Chris Arnold and whoever he's gabbing with at the moment. No, The FAN isn't a cool guy station like The Ticket. Neither is it a media darling, like The Ticket. Nor is it nearly as successful as The Ticket. Yet I do find myself listening to both stations in equal doses each week. There was a time when the thought of that was risible to me. Even more ridiculous at one time was the idea that I'd ever NOT listen to The Ticket all day, everyday. The equal doses consist of about 3 hours for each station per week for a total of 6 hours of sportstalk per week. Again, the mere thought of that few hours of daily much less weekly listening at one time was inconceivable. Things have changed.
Is Junior Miller having a baby? When they were doing the NBA hotshot segment on Boom in da house with Donnie and Sirois, Mike said something about Craig's unborn baby. Anybody know something about this?
Interesting note by Gordon this morning that the Eagle wanted him to co-host with Russ Martin when Russ took over the morning show. This would have been a textbook case of trying to mix oil and water.
Why the lack of love for Wellborn Garage Doors? Inquiring minds want to know!
ReplyDeleteI have had nothing but great experiences with Welborn Garage Doors. What was your experience?
ReplyDeleteI will allow other Confessors to answer this question.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against the performance of Welborn Garage Doors. I'm sure they are a fine vendor.
Methinks Wellborn Garage Doors has left two posts here. I mean, 812 and 1038 sound like something a call tree AI "representitive" would "say."

Thanks.
Has anyone done a welfare check on Snowflake Cruz? We want to know that the puppy is ok.

All of this advice may be seriously wrong.

ReplyDeleteMuch thanks, again.

ReplyDeleteMy sportstalk listening is way down too. I tend to listen to more podcasts, some or radio shows.
ReplyDeleteThose eyes on that redhead. Hubba hubba!
ReplyDeleteRadio landscape will change a little with the passing of Russ Martin.
ReplyDeleteRuss Martin died?

ReplyDeleteI’ve never heard one second of a Russ Martin broadcast
