Just a New Thread
REMINDER: I WILL DELETE "ANONYMOUS" COMMENTS AND THOSE I FIND GRATUITOUSLY VULGAR, INSULTING, INCOMPREHENSIBLE, OR JUST GENERALLY ANNOYING, IN MY SOLE AND UNREVIEWABLE DISCRETION.
Featuring my Val Kilmer-autographed "Tombstone" poster.
I don't like to let threads get too long, but been preoccupied the last week and out of town now. Will be having breakfast with The Bride at L'Auberge (cue Vivaldi) here in Del Mar (CA) shortly.
In the meantime, carry on in your characteristically civilized fashion. Will check the thread at least once a day.
Then your request is at best bizarre. Related: Why do you care? What's the point of the request? If you can't name 10 of the JV, then why not peruse the admittedly crap Ticket site? Why not do a little research? As I said, it's at best bizarre. But we know it's not "at best." Keep hoping the "Win the Internet" fad will die off. I'm beginning to see that's wishful thinking.
Very much hoping for Gordo calling out his cohosts on their Mavs/Luka takes this week Oh and Sweet Spot is turrrrble.......hey Catman, just play your solid gold replays 1-3.
Shouting at clouds. Numbers say otherwise. Very much hoping you listen closer to what's said on-air before attempting to win the internet. You're not good at this, slick. Let's cut back on it, a lot.
I check back here once every few months and without fail you're here doing the same thing. I sure hope you're getting paid for it because otherwise it's incredibly pathetic.
I would love to not hear any more Luka talk in general. My gosh, had the topic been beaten into the ground. It’s become the “we need a segment to fill, let’s talk Luka trade again”
Maybe if there was something to add, but there isn't. Corby is still a diehard Mavs fan, Dave feels very burned, Bob is in the middle. Musers have moved on yet acknowledge it was a bad trade. Have we learned anything new from the hosts on this topic? Not really.
I mean the station has run around the Jerry circle 18 billion times with nothing new happening. Luka trade is way more interesting than that has been for the last 30 years.
When I say “No shit, Sherlock,” I’m also presaying that I absolutely concur with you. Don’t understand the other side of the aisle on this one. This is huge, and it goes beyond the Mavs.
It’s not that I don't recognize the gravity of the trade, I just don’t think there’s anything to be said that hasn’t been said right now. The trip back to Dallas is big I get that, but a lot of it is just the same points over and over.
Other than box scores, rarely does anything in the wide world of sports drop of genuine significance. So Mary be you ought to find a new form of entertainment(?). YMMV
Ok CJK5H let me ask you this: how much on average would you say you listen per week: and how do you think that compares to the average listener. As a generality, people who complain about talk stations repeating the same topics, or music stations playing too much (song, band, or type of music) tend to be the hardest of hardcore P1’s, who consume the product at a higher than average rate. So the age old PD question, do you program to the extremes or the middle. The average weekday ticket listener listens for less than an hour a day. Probably split into multiple occasions. So I wonder if the average person is as sick of McDonald food as the supersize me guy is? C

I want to say to all Confessors: I apologize for my at times unhelpful and even nasty timbre. Just haven't been myself lately. MIght be the divorce I'm going through. Might be my proclivaty to be attracted to women 20 years my junior. Because, well, you know, we have a tendency to think of ourselves eternally as our younger selves. And as a result, and after a "handful" of bevs, we forget who we are and begin to convince ourselves we "just might have a chance." "I think she's into me." Those sentiments and all other sorts of happy hour extended to 11:45 pm nonsense. . . . I feel ya, dawg. But, again, please accept my apologies. I'm merely a guy drowning in the sea of what was and can never be again. As the great Little River Band puts it: Take it Easy on Me. Won't you?
Tonights postgame - Monty, DJ, Ham, Donovan - will be the best takes until SportsSturm and Davey get to unleash.
Gordo will probably troll and try to tangle up Jub and Jr.
I think Invasion with D and McM will be a couple hrs good listen.
I think that 1-3 show will be absolutely terrible, pls let me know otherwise.
I really hope a lot of Mavs fans felt that the ORG screwed them over and that those on the Cupsps - - Good Luck Yall Get Yourself Another Top 3 Player of All Time.
Right on man! That really bugged me too! The fact that we live in a world where someone like Mino even exists is a totes affront to good taste. I mean, c’mon Cat! Wake up! Oh. Hold the phone. What? They do? No way. OK. I’m hearing -and on good authority- that TSS’s numbers track in near identical fashion with -gasp!- THZ’s.
Yo Scott, you and the Bass-man wanna sling some D(iscs) manana after WTDS? Got some time to bro it out since those Ranger Bangers don't play bizzy ball til night time in Frasier land. Buddy - - - lets slip on those flippy-flops and d-golf it up, it's Masters wknd yo! What do ya think the equivalent of pimento cheese sammies is for us Frisbee Fellas? Lets take a break from the keyboards ScottySon & throw on the spf20. Cue up that Jack John, its the wknd my best friend Dude! Brother, knuckles! Lets pregame while our Super Bass-o-matic keeps those ears listening....we gonna hit up Paschall Park? Holla Scotty!
Sam? Gotta move on, pal. Plus. Your attempt at jazz improv is embarrassing. Might I suggest Vincent Herring’s “ Logic and Critical Thinking in Jazz Improvisation.” Work through it a few times then take another stab at it. As is…. buddy. Again, embarrassing.
REMINDER: I WILL DELETE "ANONYMOUS" COMMENTS AND THOSE I FIND GRATUITOUSLY VULGAR, INSULTING, INCOMPREHENSIBLE, OR JUST GENERALLY ANNOYING, IN MY SOLE AND UNREVIEWABLE DISCRETION. BUT ACTUALLY I WON'T DO ANY SUCH THING.
Just an aside: I think it is very obvious at the start that Mark is not, does not, want to be on this weekly segment, just as he did not want to be on the one right after the trade happened.
The "I don't know if you guys have already had a segment, I haven't been able to listen" -----my guy, its an hour into the show, you are questioning if they have brought up mavs/lakers yet?!?!?
Mark F on a chill good day is still pretty pompous, overtalks on people, gives off smartest kid at the table vibes. Bob stood strong, called out Mavs front office, & Mark deflected by making it seem Bob was calling out media, comms, broadcast etc teams.
A good ol radio fight - I'm giving it to the Sturminator.
I admire Mark's dedication to sticking up for his co-workers, because at a micro-level (and one that the general fan never, ever considers) there is an army of employees who have nothing to do w/ this debacle, but have to live inside of it every day, as part of their jobs. Mark's problem is that he's so offended by any comment HE perceives as a slight to this group, he's blind to what the rest of us are actually complaining about. It doesn't really matter who made the decision - if you can't see the cringe nature of the shirts and hypocritical vibe of the video - but only see offense in the criticism of those things, then I think that is a reflection of a bigger professional issue.
Both things can be true here - and if I was Mark, I would be devestated at the turn of events of his career in this moment because I think it reflects the rest of the people he's defending. A team that had in its possession a generational player, who is beloved by the fanbase, had connected w/ the community in a way that reflected the love of his predecessor, Dirk. And then you can mention he was really good at the game in a way that filled hi-light reels. IT must have been a dream job across all departments of the Mavs org.
Now, he and his co-workers are stuck in this hell, with a team that is probably self-doomed to be not only mid-tier, but probably not very entertaining in the process. Imagine having to realize you're going from calling Luka games night in and night out, to calling this. I do feel for Mark and his co-workers, because that is truly some collartoral damage from what will go down as the "Worst Trade Ever".
Something I’ll throw out to the room for discussion. In every significant daypart breakout, the Fan has higher cume than TT. Yet TT absolutely crushes them in the ratings. MI style, your mission, should you choose to accept it, give your opinion and contrast and compare TF and TT and an explanation for the ass-kicking that takes place despite the massive number of faults, all well documented by the redditors: A checked out morning show, pedo late mornings, amateurs in over their heads middays, and a sports bully and a clueless frat boy in PM drive. Too much of the same topic, too little of the same topic, too much of fringe players like producers and board ops while at the very same time, too little of other fringe producers and board ops. For all their faults, how does this line up manage to beat the team of broadcast professionals employed by TF. C
Because the picture you paint is the one the same 2-3 MTC commenters (hell, it might all be the same person) along with the redditors put on display daily. It's a fringe, in extremis take by a small but very passionalte vocal minority that in no way reflects either the largest demo (the casual but daily listener) or the second largest demo (the fanboys). I could go on about this and especially the vocal minority, but I won't, as it's been done ad nauseam in this space.
The FAN can be OK at times. I do like the fact it has local evening programming (TT once did too). But on the whole, they try too hard, if that makes sense. Plus they have (and in the past have had --e.g., Mike Fisher) personalities that are grating and do little other than try toss out audio clickbait. A lot of forced chemistry that even after years in some cases never clicked. Now I must say that the majority of people I know who've moved into DFW over the past dozen or so years prefer The FAN - at least at first. They don't get all the inside jokes on TT, and more importantly, The FAN is sports talk presented in a way in which they're accustomed to. Some eventually do become P1s. A good number do not. If were The FAN's PD, I would note well this phenomenon and act on it. I'd stop trying in any way to emulate TT. In fact, I think that's been the issue from launch and remains so. Forget all the entertainment, guy talk, and current issue stuff (more TT wannabe), and be WIP. There is a sizeable audience of transplants here -- and they keep coming by the day -- that are into exactly that brand of sports talk.
Mark definitely came across defensive and overly sensitive. Mark is also very good at his craft. If I were him, it might pay to see when the old geezers doing play by play for the Lakers are set to retire. Mark would be great reunited with Luka in Los Angeles. He is simply too good of a play by play guy to stay with what soon will be a perennial lottery team for the next decade. This Mavs teem is doomed and will soon fall off a cliff. Having said all of this about the high quality of Mark's work. Sturminator crushed him in the on air debate. Was not close.
PS stay away from annuities promising 25 percent plus bonuses.

Just remember I love you and it'll be alright. Just remember I love you more than I can say.
So the DZ will be doing a podcast stream at the Nelson, with the Sirois'sss. Oh and the Mom Game....they are going to be setup at the 17th, where I do believe The Ticket has held court there for the last several years. But you know, D&J, 2 of the biggest golf bros there are...
Maybe they'll do a show up at Choctaw pretty soon, too! At least they now have the Freedom to Choose to do that!
I’m thinking the steel toed boot is that you keep taking the bait. Have you not figured this out yet? This person clearly enjoys what they’re doing, doesn’t give a rip what you say, and tbh always has a creepier and admittedly usually more clever comeback. I swear if you ( I mean all who can’t help but bite, not just you personally) would ignore the bullsh, it’ll eventually go away.
You're onto something here, Oxey. But see, they won't. It's why I'm here. Keep 'em checked and balanced. Bigly so. They have their toy and toy boys, but it's not enough. YOU must think as THEY do, else you suck off the toes that reside within The-Boot-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named. Easy pickin's, Oxo. You a good grip? Askin' fer a a friend. I do get a kick on route 66 when the one tries to imitate. Most sincere form of flattery, so it's said. Still. It's shambolic in construct and creativity. I'll be charitable: D+. Woulda given a C-, but that would be an affront to our esteemed Confessor. C-. Besides, D range is more apt.
That audio link shared by Lou Ca last week was fascinating
Flying under the radar was Followill's despair that this is the last year local TV will get to carry playoff games. He couched it as he's sad that the broadcast team's swan song may be last year's playoff run. Which seems like that would be a good thing, since the Mavs were actually good last year.
Methinks the ungainly thin, Gatlinesque basso-voiced, obsessive, thin-skinned PbP third of Mavs TV is actively looking for, and perhaps has already found, his next landing spot. While I understand showing your employer-current and/or future- bona fides, loyalty. He, in many ways, and especially in light of yesterday’s Nico Harrison debacle, parroted his employer’s obtuse, blinkered, arrogant, off-putting tone deafness. As Aunt Esther was wont to say to Fred, Follow came off as a “fish eyed fool.” I never imagined that I’d ever think, much less express this: Whether Mark is actively seeking or has secured a new position or not, it’s time for him to move on. I also contend his days as a Ticket guest will come to an end a few days after the inevitable bounce from the play-in.
Sometimes a person says or does something that irrevocably changes your view of them - positively or negatively. For many, I believe ,Followell had one of those moments the other day.
Nico may be parroting his employers tone deafness but everything else is him. He sounded like an old man yelling at everyone assembled that he's right, damnit. He's always been right, he'll be proven right, and he'll always be right in everything he does.
The thing about Nico I don't get it is how did Cuban not see this coming? Cuban hired Nico right? Nico got us Kyrie and Klay, and everybody liked those deals right? Cuban sells the team and boom now Nico is an idiot and wants to get rid of Luka? I don't buy Cuban's role in this one bit. He can act like he cares but he had to have an inkling of what is going on. And what did he say the reason is he sold? To protect his daughters privacy? Does anyone know what they even look like or care? Doubt it.
Also, it's an odd feeling being someone that did not like the dumbzone at all, and Luka made me less and less of a mavs fan. I guess dreams do come true?
Cuban sold the team because he decided it was time to sell the team. He openly talked about the NBA having one more good media rights contract left. He is clearly bearish on long term value of NBA media rights due to things like cord cutting.
Cuban hired Nico to help sell players on the idea that playing in Dallas was cool because Nico had relationships. No deals happened under Cuban’s watch without Cuban’s fingerprints being all over them; he made all the decisions.
Cuban isn’t dumb enough to have done the Luka deal, but let’s not act like Cuban was perfect. He blew up a championship team because he “read the CBA” & was convinced teams would offload talent for little in return to avoid a luxury tax. Never happened & all Mavs fans got was 7 years of uselessness & a waste of the end of Dirk’s career.
Not exactly what he said & to extent he was, he knew it wasn’t true when he said it & didn’t plan to run the team long term.
I have a host of issues with Cuban but Cuban isn’t an idiot. He knows that to have control, you have to have a majority of the company. He knew what he gave up when he made the deal.
The guy made millions selling software before founding broadcast.com & selling that for billions.
Let’s stop acting like he was tricked into something
FWIW. YMMV. Here's a bit of watercooler scuttlebutt by "those in the know adjacent." No butt holding promises or teases here. Merely passing along what I've heard from an acquaintance that is in a field closely related to local radio and who in the past has been correct. (Full disclosure, they've also been incorrect.) I'm relating what he said is being talked about.
As he understands it, ex-Freakers non-competes will be up at the end of the month (Apr). He didn't know if that's true for Danny, who joined after the D1 hosts. Said that if you've noticed the recent uptick in mentions of some former employees who bet on themselves, it might not be coincidental. There is rumbling that while ratings across dayparts range from fantastic to historic, the idea that a few tweaks between 9-3 have been bandied. Tweaks that might involve adding a voice, thereby making all shows 3-host booths. Again, FWIW/YMMV caveat.
He said word on TDZ is that some changes are coming. All related to non-competes being shed. That they're about to make a big push to expand their audience and are aiming directly at Ticket P1s and P2s. I asked if TDZ's demise or a scaling back is on the horizon if this rumored push fails. While he obviously couldn't say for sure (as the push itself is a rumor -- but a rumor put out by those in the business), he said everything he's heard over the past year would indicate that if this supposed campaign/expansion doesn't work, a scaling back is probably in order. He added that if the rumor is untrue, then his personal feeling is that a scaling back looms.
Sorry, not buying any of it. Do you think some kind of memo went out saying “mention these specific people more”? And unless you listen for 13 hours a day, how would anyone have know if there’s been a recent uptick in mentions. It’s white car Wednesday, you don’t notice it until you think to notice it. It’s still the same number of white cars, you’re just noticing them more. 2nd part of 2nd paragraph- so while ratings are at a historic high with a payroll of “X”, we’re to believe that Cumulus, who’s stock currently can be bought for the loose quarter found in your couch cushion, is going to boost payroll by a couple hundred grand? They are already the highest rated and highest billing station in the market. From everything I know and have heard about Bennett he’s a numbers guy. It’s hit to make economic sense. And I’m sorry, but adding failures like Danny or Sirois isn’t going to move the revenue meter. Neither were able to draw much of an audience at the Freak, where is the “value added” in their hiring? Again they’re the highest rated and highest billing station in the market. If the Fan was beating them in middays I might believe this a little more. But they aren’t, so I don’t. I’ll seperate these so I don’t do one massive post.
Also not buying that TDZ is going “directly” at the Ticket audience. A majority of the listening is done in cars, I don’t think you can underplay the convenience factor of being a sports fan, getting in the car, turning a key and knowing you’re going to hear about the big sports stories of the day. I stopped listening to TDZ a while back. They have some advertisers but do they have enough to add let’s say half a million in salaries? Lawsuit said Jake was making 80k when made a host. 80x6=480, even if they’re working for half that, it’s 250k. I heard Jasmine is selling for them. You’re going to need more salespeople, which is a cost. And a billing department, and a traffic department to schedule those spots, billing software, traffic software, more engineering support and on and on. There’s a reason all the big companies have multi station clusters now. Because you can see press out those costs amongst more stations. KLIF AM probably doesn’t bill enough to pay for a dedicated engineer, business manager, etc. But if some of that cost is absorbed by the highest billling station in the market, plus big billers like WBAP, KSCS and Wolf, you spread your costs out. I keep hearing rumblings about TDZs “investors”. To one of you that still subscribe, how many spots are they doing per show? Are they getting anything from the Austin based podcast company that people made a big deal about? Did I not see comments on this very site about TDZ discussing the pay cut they took? If the subs are paying for TDZ, who’s paying for the new show or shows? From what I know , pod sub costs and revenue are closely tied. The higher your cost, the less subscribers, so revenue equals “X”. Drop the cost, get more subscribers, and revenue still equals “X”. I just need someone to explain to me where the revenue stream to pay for all these new hires to No Puppet is coming from. To be continued…
I don't see the TDZ making much of a dent in the Ticket's audience. I will say that I listen to podcast in my car as much or more than I listen to the radio. There are not many barriers left to listening to new media while mobile. My personal friend group does the same but we could be group of middle aged people on the bleeding age of technology.
@C minus - The partnership with the guys from Austin is all about helping them land bigger, better advertisers. There’s no way a smaller pod like theirs would get something like Factor Meals on their own. But by bundling with the rest of Washed Media, they get scale and reach. Washed handles all the logistics—billing, scheduling, etc. Jasmine focuses on local sponsors, while Washed takes care of the national ones. Basically, Washed is their “cluster.” They don't talk about it because it doesn't affect the on-air product.
Yeah, there are more live reads during the free shows now. But unlike The Ticket, which always seems to be on a commercial break when I tune in, I can skip these spots in about two clicks.
But here’s the biggest reason why I’m not buying the Ticket midday tweak. Catlin and Bennett made changes to hands down THE*** most popular morning show in the market and it didn’t leak. ***- in the March book the musers had a 10.9 with persons 6+, with KISS 2nd at 5.7 and KLNO 3rd at 5.2. In other words, their ratings are equal to 2nd and 3rd COMBINED. *** I don’t buy for a second that some random “acquaintance in a field closely related to radio” has any clue if there are midday tweak plans, much less specifics of exactly what those plans are (make all 3 man booths). Now what I can buy…if my non-compete was expiring, and I was trying to drum up interest from Audacy (where Bacsik just quit)(and where TT is consistently embarrassing the Fan) I’d be floating rumors that someone else is also interested in hiring me. If I can start a bidding war, even if one of the bidders is a phantom, I’m more likely to get hired at the 80k instead of the 40k. And I don’t think this has been stressed enough. Radio is very much a what have you done for me lately business. To an extent, you’re only as good as your last book. Now if you’re the Musers or Hardline with a proven history (and a contract) you’ve got a grace period. But as for Danny, Mike, Julie, Cavanaugh, etc they’re seen as failures. You had a chance to draw an audience and you failed to do it. Sure Greggo got a chance at every sports station in town, but he could never recapture the magic. Sure Ben and Skin somehow survive, but I think part of that is how good a salesman Ben is. He’s the “he could sell ice to an Eskimo “ kind of good. (And I’m sorry, is it Inuit now? Will I be cancelled for using Eskimo?) If Ben is bring “X” amount of business to the company thru his sales effort, it probably changes the payroll dynamic. It’s possible that this random dude knows the inner workings of both Cumulus AND the dumb zone. But I’d love to see the venn diagram on that. Maybe Sturm would know both TT and TDZ inner thoughts, but tell me how this guy, who isn’t even in radio knows Catlins plans. C
I ask you to read my caveats before continuing to cocky sniff all over me. Nowhere do I claim to know anyone but an acquaintance who is in your exact line of work, and who has been correct about stuff in the past. But not always.
Cirque is coming back as a podcast in May, Danny will probably have a big part in it, guessing KT too....if any of that floats your boat.
Good on TDZ if they're just set on doing their old Ticket show, runsheet - after a year I cancelled the subscription, guess I just thought they might try something new content-wise
A year or so ago I dug up some OG Halcyon Days of THL circa 1999-2004. During those years and up until I revisited, you could not convince me that it wasn’t the best radio ever aired. Time was not its friend. Other than the handful of online ass kissers, I’m fairly sure a CdS Redux will go down in the same manner.
The shelf life on Fake Norm has expired. It has become such and absurd, over the top, cartoonish version of the character that I find it unlistenable. It is rare for me to punch out of a 8:40 bit but yesterdays Norm and the Goose bit was just a mess and a loud mess to boot. There's an arc to Gordo's characters were the ridiculousness and the volume continue to ramp up to a step beyond absurd and into the annoying. I hope Gordo was speaking the truth when he said it was the last time.
This is literally every Gordo 8:40 character to me. They start funny. After a few times, the character is fully fleshed out. It’s consistently funny for a while.
.. And then Gordo gets bored with it. Then he ratchets up the character over & over until he is screaming & he gets his adrenaline hit. After that, he’s only trying to amuse himself-not by actually being funny in the moment, but by acting insane & afterwards being self amused at the thing he did on air. At which point, it’s just hit or miss.
Nice try. I guess. C- for effort. Tell ya what. You got until Monday to rewrite your simple sentence. But if you fail to do so, your current suboptimal mark stands.
Buddy. That’s all ya got? Gotta be at least 5ft tall to ride the ride. Why that was worse than your first effort. Tell you what. I’m in a generous mood. One more shot at it.
Sorry for the delay in ratings post - my bad. #1 across the board, shares are down, but it was also the window of time that included most of Dry Dock. everyone will always read into it, what they want to - so have at it. https://www.reddit.com/r/theticket/comments/1k7ozjj/march_25_ratings_update/
Ruh roh. Number 1 across all day parts and over all. Big ouchie for you members of The Hive. Oh wait, the numbers are down! Oh wait. So too are The FAN’s. Can’t even get that “win,” can you. Double ouchie.

ReplyDeleteYou should give your top 10 favorite current JV Ticket guys
You first.

ReplyDeleteI want to say to all Confessors: I apologize for my at times unhelpful and even nasty timbre. Won't you?
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance.

DeleteTonights postgame - Monty, DJ, Ham, Donovan - will be the best takes until SportsSturm and Davey get to unleash.
ReplyDeleteGordo will probably troll and try to tangle up Jub and Jr.
*pj though
I absolutely love your take here. Hope to see more from you moving forward.
DeleteGlad the Musers could have Mino on to provide color on the Mavs game
ReplyDeleteRight on man!
DeleteSam? That you, slick?
Hi Best-Friend Scott. Keep on keeping on, buddy!

DeleteSeriously. That you, Sam?
DeleteYo Scott, you and the Bass-man wanna sling some D(iscs) manana after WTDS? Got some time to bro it out since those Ranger Bangers don't play bizzy ball til night time in Frasier land.

DeleteThe Bob v Followill segments-
ReplyDeletehttps://post.futurimedia.com/ktck/playlist/listen-9425.html
Good shit, my dude. Keep 'em coming. We need more of you. Solid takes. No agenda. Digging it.
DeleteI admire Mark's dedication to sticking up for his co-workers, because at a micro-level (and one that the general fan never, ever considers) there is an army of employees who have nothing to do w/ this debacle, but have to live inside of it every day, as part of their jobs.
DeleteBoth things can be true here - and if I was Mark, I would be devestated at the turn of events of his career in this moment because I think it reflects the rest of the people he's defending.
Stately stated.
DeleteIf you liked CMLS at 36 cents you're gonna LOVE it at 26 cents
ReplyDeleteThese PSAs you provide are invaluable.

Something I’ll throw out to the room for discussion. In every significant daypart breakout, the Fan has higher cume than TT. Yet TT absolutely crushes them in the ratings. MI style, your mission, should you choose to accept it, give your opinion and contrast and compare TF and TT and an explanation for the ass-kicking that takes place despite the massive number of faults, all well documented by the redditors:
ReplyDeleteA checked out morning show, pedo late mornings, amateurs in over their heads middays, and a sports bully and a clueless frat boy in PM drive.
DeleteThe FAN can be OK at times.

DeleteThis week. Hold fast. Hold tight.
ReplyDeleteI think the whole time this person has just been informing us of when the next wet fart will be escaping their anus
DeleteYou, I like.
DeleteWhen the blues come callin' at the break of dawn. The rain keeps fallin' but the rainbow's gone. When you feel like cryin' but the tears won't come. When your dreams are dyin', when you're on the run.
ReplyDeleteJust remember I love you and it'll be alright. Just remember I love you more than I can say.
So the DZ will be doing a podcast stream at the Nelson, with the Sirois'sss. Oh and the Mom Game....they are going to be setup at the 17th, where I do believe The Ticket has held court there for the last several years.
ReplyDeleteBut you know, D&J, 2 of the biggest golf bros there are...
Maybe they'll do a show up at Choctaw pretty soon, too! At least they now have the Freedom to Choose to do that!
Well, the steel toe boot dropped. Shocking news really.
ReplyDeleteWe will truly miss you Ryan.
What does this mean?
DeleteSam? We know, bud.
DeleteWhat's happening is that a beloved Ticket guy got let go and will no longer be on the air. The mystery poster was right all along
DeleteGuys. It’s happening. Now.
ReplyDeleteIs the steel toed boot in the room with us right now?
DeletePardon me but I am still laughing at the "wet fart" comment
DeleteThat’s a lonely hill you’re standing on, shecky.
DeleteYeah. Laughing at your own maternal is weak sauce. Specially when the material is weak sauce. Ick factor stuff.
DeleteSo Ryan Medellin is the boot? Anyone else?
ReplyDeleteI’m thinking the steel toed boot is that you keep taking the bait.
DeleteYou're onto something here, Oxey.
DeleteThat audio link shared by Lou Ca last week was fascinating
ReplyDeleteFlying under the radar was Followill's despair that this is the last year local TV will get to carry playoff games.
DeleteSometimes a person says or does something that irrevocably changes your view of them - positively or negatively. For many, I believe ,Followell had one of those moments the other day.
DeleteNico may be parroting his employers tone deafness but everything else is him. He sounded like an old man yelling at everyone assembled that he's right, damnit. He's always been right, he'll be proven right, and he'll always be right in everything he does.
DeleteThe thing about Nico I don't get it is how did Cuban not see this coming? Cuban hired Nico right? Nico got us Kyrie and Klay, and everybody liked those deals right? Cuban sells the team and boom now Nico is an idiot and wants to get rid of Luka? I don't buy Cuban's role in this one bit. He can act like he cares but he had to have an inkling of what is going on. And what did he say the reason is he sold? To protect his daughters privacy? Does anyone know what they even look like or care? Doubt it.
DeleteAlso, it's an odd feeling being someone that did not like the dumbzone at all, and Luka made me less and less of a mavs fan. I guess dreams do come true?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the name of the "Whats the countdown for" guy, but that guy is now David Mino.
ReplyDeleteHe is way out in the deep deep waters.
Pete Stein. There was no reason for Rhyner to be such a jerk. But of course that's how the countdown was born.
DeleteMike did issue an on air apology to him sometime later. You are right though, Mike was rather condescending at the time.
DeleteCuban sold the team because he decided it was time to sell the team. He openly talked about the NBA having one more good media rights contract left. He is clearly bearish on long term value of NBA media rights due to things like cord cutting.
ReplyDeleteCuban hired Nico to help sell players on the idea that playing in Dallas was cool because Nico had relationships.
He sold a majority stake of the team because he thought that was the best path to turn the franchise into a gambling and entertainment behemoth.
DeleteHe said he was retaining control of the basketball operations, but he wasn't smart enough to get that agreement in a legally enforceable way.
Not exactly what he said & to extent he was, he knew it wasn’t true when he said it & didn’t plan to run the team long term.
DeleteI have a host of issues with Cuban but Cuban isn’t an idiot. He knows that to have control, you have to have a majority of the company. He knew what he gave up when he made the deal.
The guy made millions selling software before founding broadcast.com & selling that for billions.
Let’s stop acting like he was tricked into something
Exactly ^
DeleteHe’s kinda going around doing PR getting a bit of that treatment when he really shouldn’t be
The guy's no freaking genius:

CMLS: Soon entering the McClearin Zone
ReplyDeleteNo one cares, Suzy. They don’t see it.
DeleteSam? At it again? Have they invited you on yet?
DeleteFWIW.
ReplyDeleteAs he understands it, ex-Freakers non-competes will be up at the end of the month (Apr).
TDZ on the airwaves vs. Sweet spot. I'd go TDZ in the mid day again. Never listen to them now.
DeleteSorry, not buying any of it.
ReplyDelete2nd part of 2nd paragraph- so while ratings are at a historic high with a payroll of “X”, we’re to believe that Cumulus, who’s stock currently can be bought for the loose quarter found in your couch cushion, is going to boost payroll by a couple hundred grand?
ReplyDeleteI stopped listening to TDZ a while back.
Reported what I was told. You might know this person, as they’re in the same line of work as you. In fact, I bet you two do know each other. Tha
DeleteSorry. Accidentally hit publish. As I said, FWIW. No butt holding. No predictions. Don’t shoot the messenger:
DeleteI don't see the TDZ making much of a dent in the Ticket's audience. I will say that I listen to podcast in my car as much or more than I listen to the radio. There are not many barriers left to listening to new media while mobile. My personal friend group does the same but we could be group of middle aged people on the bleeding age of technology.
Delete@C minus - The partnership with the guys from Austin is all about helping them land bigger, better advertisers.
DeleteYeah, there are more live reads during the free shows now.
ReplyDelete***- in the March book the musers had a 10.9 with persons 6+, with KISS 2nd at 5.7 and KLNO 3rd at 5.2. In other words, their ratings are equal to 2nd and 3rd COMBINED. ***
I don’t buy for a second that some random “acquaintance in a field closely related to radio” has any clue if there are midday tweak plans, much less specifics of exactly what those plans are (make all 3 man booths).
Will I be cancelled for using Eskimo?)
If Ben is bring “X” amount of business to the company thru his sales effort, it probably changes the payroll dynamic.
DeleteCirque is coming back as a podcast in May, Danny will probably have a big part in it, guessing KT too....if any of that floats your boat.
ReplyDeleteGood on TDZ if they're just set on doing their old Ticket show, runsheet - after a year I cancelled the subscription, guess I just thought they might try something new content-wise
DeleteThe shelf life on Fake Norm has expired.
ReplyDeleteThis is literally every Gordo 8:40 character to me. They start funny. After a few times, the character is fully fleshed out. It’s consistently funny for a while.
Delete..
This is every character but fake Jerry.
I love norm and goose. It’s over the top and that’s what makes it great.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Norm and Goose is one of my favorite 840 bits.
ReplyDeleteSo many jelly.
