A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."

Been Away, Back
REMINDER: I WILL DELETE "ANONYMOUS" COMMENTS AND THOSE I FIND GRATUITOUSLY VULGAR, INSULTING, INCOMPREHENSIBLE, OR JUST GENERALLY ANNOYING IN MY SOLE AND UNREVIEWABLE DISCRETION.
Let’s drive Plainsman’s traffic. A little birdie fed me this: Men 25-54 M-Sun 6-mid, 1st w a 10.1 M-Fri 6-mid, 1st w a 11.9 M-Fri 6-7p, 1st w a 12.5 M-Fri 6-10a, 1st w a 16.6 M-Fri 10-1p, 1st w a 10.5 M-Fri 1-3p, 1st w a 8.9 M-Fri 3-7p, 1st w a 10.1
In Adults 25-54 m-s 6-mid, 2nd behind Xmas music, with a 1.5 lead on KISS in 3rd M-f 6-mid, 2nd w a 7.8, w a 2.7 lead on KISS M-Fri 6a-7p, Xmas 9.3, Ticket 8.2, KISS 5.1
This is the holiday book, so the day after White Elephant thru Jan 3nd Please consider discussing how a bunch of spares, the JV, not ready for prime time players, all the other names those guys were called, still managed to beat everything but Xmas music. Especially please note how Morning drive got a 16.6 with just 2 days of the musers Is the brand stronger than the individual parts?
Our show has at least three #1 finishes and several #2 finishes behind KLNO. We almost always beat our main competitor. I appreciate you all listening, even those of you who can’t handle that we were promoted two years back. Hope to see some of you at TicketStock. Take care.
We got your back, Sean. Pay no mind to the envious. Besides, it’s the same 3 individuals who post the bullsh. One of them is a former employee (hi, Sam). You and Mino get better with each passing week. I’m digging the sports Sweet Spot, and the numbers show I’m in no ways alone.
That speaks to the pitfalls of audience measurement and the subtle variances in audiences that are easy to miss at first glance. Perhaps the Sweet Spot hasn’t been first before ( I think you may be wrong but don’t want to research it right now), but the top 2 stations in that demo who would usually beat them are KLNO and KZPS. Why would Hispanic listening or classic rock listening dip? Guys not listening because they’re off work and their wives are making them turn on Xmas music? Also, the audience is a third to a half smaller in middays because less people are in their cars.
I will concede that McLearin has grown into a full fledged member of the Ticket... i thought he was annoying at first (and still don't want to listen to segments about beer), but he's someone that keeps me interested in his sports topics. I think some of that is driven by Donnie being the most flexible host on the ticket (I feel like he could do a show with anyone and make it enjoyable.
The sweet spot on the other hand, is just generic sports points that make my eyes glaze over... I've started skipping their segments entirely especially when discussing sports. The show sounds like 2 guys acting out what a sports talk show should sound like.
I agree with your take on Matt. Remember, he was a Varsity host in Alabama for more than a handful of years, came back here, then went back to that same AL station to host again. That experience is invaluable and the confidence it instills is palatable. Mino is still growing into the f/t host role. While Sean has more experience than Mino, he too is growing into the position. It hasn't been two years yet. I think they keep getting better. Don't know how long you've been a listener, but BaD's nascent years (3 and change) were rocky to say the least. They've both admitted over the years that many times they were certain the axe was about to fall on them. Like I said, it took a good 3+ years before they became beloved by all P1s.
What are these goalposts you speak of? Are you referring to the now never spoken of, apparently abandoned aims and goals of TDZ/NP? The ones Jake, Jasmine, Julie, The Legal Dream Team (member them?), et alia would boldly even brashly claim in print, on pods, and on socials? Is that what you mean?
No, I mean the people who for the last year have said that the Dumb Zone is about to fall apart, Dan is going back to middays in Ohio, everything is imminent...you know
Those are predictions posted by speculating commenters. Many of whom are obviously trolling the likes of you. What I speak of appertains to readily verifiable facts.
I think I know where TEI is going with this & I have a similar thought, but think it percolates a bit longer than MLB opening day & maybe THZ remains intact as a side gig.
The DumbZone does seem like its lost a little steam. They don’t talk about all the pie in the sky aspirations anymore. It sucks because I’m still a fan. I can’t go back to ticket middays.
A lot. As in the kettle is no longer on the burner, the engine is down to its last shovel of coal. In-house has correctly seen the end game - one that will itself quickly dash off into the bittersweet, twilit evening. But let’s say the doom and groomers and trollers are onto the truth. If memory serves, most predictions were giving a ‘25 end date. Children, it’s merely Feb 14.
Sean, who I believe to be the Real Sean, gets a pass from deletion for posting as "Anonymous," because he did identify himself, and because it's always gratifying to see a Ticket star posting here.
Sorry, men and women. Been away and away from the channel for a bit.
ReplyDeleteOn review of recent posts, I thought most were well within tolerances. Which I appreciated.
But they're getting a little chippy, so I'm limbering up my delete digit.
Thanks for thinking twice, publishing once.
Woos hoos!

Kinda sad the only time 1-3 has finished first is when Sean and David are out on vacation
DeleteYou do realize that THZ placed 1st only a handful of times in the course of 3 years. But don't let that ruin your narrative.

Terrrible
DeleteDoes The Dumb Zone still exist by Opening Day 2025? Please stake your claims now before the goalposts move again.

DeleteThe DumbZone was supposed to have a show yesterday but they never posted one. Nothing on their socials either stating why. Is something going on?
ReplyDeleteThey did have a show yesterday and it was posted
DeleteNo, a show was not posted yesterday. But, they did just post today’s show so we are all good.

DeleteWhen did you start listening? Did you stop listening to BaD early on and never go back? Because believe me, year 1-2 BaD was just that, bad.
