. . . at 9:30 a.m., minutes after the firing of Jim Montgomery, whether The Ticket, the Official Radio Station of the Dallas Stars, is "leveraging" (to use an overused bizspeak word) its relationship to track down Daryl "Razor" Reaugh, or ANY Stars-connected person, to comment on this startling development.
It would be understandable if the Stars, including semi-independent employees like Razor, don't want to comment on their understanding of the "unprofessional conduct" that got him fired. But someone is going to have to say something. There will be a presser a little later.
It'd be rich if it was one of his Ticket or White Elephant interviews. Nah, they were harmless fun, actually reflected well on the Stars.
Inquiring hockey minds want to know.
Actually, posted this just because the redhead was so appropriate:
Julie is pretty damn connected but she said she has no inside info, which I find surprising and hard to believe tbh
ReplyDeleteThirty seconds after I posted this, Norm's on the phone with Owen Newkirk. So The Ticket is trying to be on the ball. Or puck.
ReplyDeleteGuessing: Me too. A DUI would have been reported.
ReplyDeleteBooze, broads, brawling, or gambling on games. Not a lot of other "conduct" can get you fired, especially if you're winning.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe sassing the boss.
ReplyDeleteInvolves no current or former players or employees. Not criminal. Does seem to narrow it to something of a sexual nature
ReplyDeleteMark this up with Ron Washington for endless speculation without resolution.
ReplyDeleteGambling can't be ignored but I think that would have come down from the league, not the team.
ReplyDeleteThe crazy thing is that Monty on Monty makes the most sense with the timeline and few details they did give.
ReplyDeleteThe press conference seemed to suggest that it was a single event of some kind and not a course of conduct. Which kind of suggests that maybe it wasn't a course of harassment.
ReplyDeleteSurely could not have been "Monty on Monty," which I thought was fairly enjoyable and not scandalous. And, to the extent that it was, shall we say, an unconventional interview, that's not on him. In any event, I'd think that the Stars would favor Monty's easygoing relationship with The Ticket.
11:20 has it right -- we'll likely never know.
Unless Jim Montgomery makes a declarative statement, everything will be speculation. And even then, there would be those who would say he's covering for what really happened.
ReplyDeleteRazor either knows, or will know before long.
ReplyDeleteThe players said they don’t even know
ReplyDeleteHe got caught doing coke with Wash but it was only one time.
ReplyDeleteRazor will probably know and so will Julie. But they will not say anything. In fact I bet that BAD Radio has been told not to ask her about it on air.
ReplyDeleteMy guess, and this is a total guess, is that something happened when they were in Canada last week. Maybe with a media member or employee of another team. Again, just a guess.
BaD did ask Julie on the air. Also, Jim Nill said that it happened last week.
ReplyDeleteHeard from a reliable source (1) one thing we know, which is that the "Monty on Monty" interview had nothing to do with this, and (2) The Ticket did call Razor for comment, and he deemed it inappropriate to speak on the air at this time. Not sure whether he knew stuff that he couldn't discuss, or didn't feel comfortable being questioned about it.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed by the fact the Musers and BaD Radio were so off base when discussing Ron Washington yesterday. First we had the Musers inaccurately claiming he was fired for the cocaine issue, although I think they eventually corrected that on the air. Ron actually survived the cocaine issue and was our Rangers manager for several years afterward.
ReplyDeleteThen Bob et al. were questioning why Ron was fired for a purely personal indiscretion (cheating on his wife in a consensual situation). The way I remember it, Ron voluntarily resigned - he wasn’t fired. The story I’ve always heard is Ron’s wife learned about his affair with a reporter from Japan who was assigned to the Yu Darvish beat and she gave him an ultimatum: quit the Rangers or we’re done. Good on her.
@Colorado P1, That is my memory as well. As I recall Daniels said at the time that he was blindsided by the resignation and had tried to get Ron to stay on. I think that is the biggest reason he's not gotten another job as a Manager not the indiscretion itself.
ReplyDeleteI’ve gotten the impression that many people in the sports media are about 98% sure why Washington was fired but the lack of a source with first hand knowledge holds them back from reporting it for legal reasons.
ReplyDeleteI suspect this firing will be the same.
KDF - I wouldnt believe anything JD says about Ron Washington or Free Agency for that matter. NO under performing GM has gotten a free pass longer than JD.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore JD alluded to the fans that the Rangers would be big players in Free Agency when they moved into new stadium. It is obvious now they were never serious. They will enjoy the financial windfall of a tax payer subsidized new air conditioned stadium while maximizing profits with a low payroll all while acting like they arent close to contending so why sign free agents. They are not close because JD cant build a farm system hence my comment above.
ReplyDeleteI think JD's hands are tied. If you want to lay blame, look no further than ownership.
ReplyDeleteDid I hear this right? Is Ferrall no longer on The Ticket?
ReplyDeleteHe's still listed on the schedule on the website. However, The Ticket website is not exactly a reliable resource for Ticket information.
ReplyDeleteI swear I heard Mino this mo allude to it.
ReplyDeleteHope he's gone, and takes Corby with him!
ReplyDelete@1:31 / 2:03. I share many of your concerns about JD as a GM. I don't feel that the Rangers have developed much talent under his leadership. Most of the core for the World Series run came via the Teixeria trade and others rather than being drafted by the Rangers. I give him credit for that but the lack of talent development is disappointing. I also agree that this ownership seems to be focused on the bottom line. It would not surprise me at all to see them put the team up for sale after the Stadium is up and they have stocked away as much profit from it as they can.
ReplyDeleteAstounding timing on these anti-JD comments. JD really sucks for getting a two-time Cy Young winner here for very little going the other way.
ReplyDeleteEh, Surly, a great move for sure. But one move does not negate the rest, hamstrung by the front office or not. But at least you're consistent.
ReplyDeleteIs everybody aware that Mike cohosted The Kickaround on Saturday? Some talk of Mike's time as a soccer announcer and a discussion of the movie Victory. Also talked about the competition between Q102 and the Zew.
ReplyDeleteSurly,
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I said JD sucks I said I had concerns about the lack of talent development under him. The trade for Kluber is a good move for which JD should be given credit. Given the Rangers inability to land free agents trades and building from within are the only options they have and building from within is where I feel this organization has come up very short under JD.
Enjoyed what I heard of Rhyner on The Kickaround. I missed a lot of unfortunately. Secondly, if Ferrall is gone, good riddance. What an annoying dude. He’s right there with Corby in being full of himself.
ReplyDeleteMy wife will listen to the Ticket all day if we are in the car together. If we get in the car and she hears Ferall’s voice, even in a promo, I hear “turn this off!”
DeleteHe voice seems to work to get him noticed but I know a good number of people who change the station rather than listen to him.
