PROGRAM NOTE: Horsemen, Pass By

Sounds like the new Saturday ten-to-noon show is "The Horsemen."

I was only able to catch the first few minutes.  I tried to find the names of the personnel, but I think their first names are Sam and Travis.  Not on the Ticket website yet, Google not of any assistance.

I didn't catch their last names.  One of them, I think it's Sam, speaks very, very fast and their last names just whizzed by.

What I've heard so far is promising.  Not much reaction other than that, but I'm still listening.  Sam's kind of jacked up and tends to smoosh his syllables together, but who wouldn't be excited, debuting a show on arguably the greatest radio station in the world?

More later on this interesting and unexpected Saturday offering.

LATER:  Samuel's last name is "Hale," I think.  Travis's last name is -- damn, missed it again.  It's Hispanic, sounds like.

I like horsies.
I like horsies, too.

  1. So Monty is left out in the cold?

Sorry, tis show sounds identical to nighttime \ weekend FAN programming.

  2. Who in the blue hell is Samuel?

  3. Come on, Confessors. Their first show. Let's give them some leash.

I ended up hearing maybe an hour of the show and I thought it was fine. Solid. It takes awhile for personalities to emerge. Bits develop over time. So let's welcome them with the spirit of generous tolerance that Confessors are known -- oh, wait.

I think I heard Samuel say he'd been with The Ticket about a year. Not sure about Travis.

If someone could confirm their last names I'd appreciate it.

I too hope The Ticket finds a slot for Justin, if he wants one. I'm hoping his health is not hindering his broadcast career. The Horsemen came on as though they were a permanent replacement for Justin + The Machine, so I'm thinking this isn't just part of a rotation. He did a good job in that Saturday AM slot, and he's an easy listen wherever he shows up. So let's hope he's in the wings waiting to make an appearance.

I'm less certain about Country Force on Sunday mornings. I really like Country Force and I'd be happy to see them with a slot anywhere, but when they came on that Sunday morning they didn't present themselves as a permanent replacement for Shake Joint. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, but they didn't open the show like The Horsemen did. I don't have any inside scoop on that slot (or any other slot, or anything else).

  4. Well, if you're not a fan of the more, how should I say, overly confident faction of the JV, then you're probably not going to enjoy the sports talk broadcasting style of one Sam I Am.

  5. Travis Mejia. @travismejia1310. Interesting choice by Cat to give Killer Kellison a shot with Eli Jordan this morning in TSJ time slot.

  6. I'm already cringing about what's going to be talked about tomorrow.

  7. I wonder if some of you have the same reaction as I do to Jason "Killer" Kellison.

    I root for the guy.

He's been a loyal Ticket guy behind the scenes for years. He appears to be very well-liked by his colleagues. He comes across a good guy when he shows up on the air. He desperately wants to be on that very air.

But O, my Confessors, bless his heart, but I am constrained to observe that the man does not speak with . . . um . . . the fluidity an auditor would hope for when one is allowed to stretch out behind the mic. I feel bad saying that. I was glad when I heard he was getting a chance with Eli on the morning show today. As I said, I was in there hoping he'd knock it out of the studio.

Man, he was struggling. His sports talk was pretty solid, especially about the Rangers, but I don't know what it was -- self-consciousness, nerves, awareness of his reputation, I don't know -- it was rough, and didn't get better as the show settled in. Eli did a great job keeping the show moving and the presentation was not a PO by any stretch.

A waggish Twitter tweeter dubbed the show "One and Done."

  8. Monty should still have a show, unless he gave it up. Eli is good...on air Killer is not.

  9. I don't know why CF isn't being given the slot. Th doesn't want to do it?

  10. I wouldn't conclude that Ty doesn't want a regular weekend gig. Suspect it was circumstances. Dunno, though.

  11. Bengals v. Packers. My first exposure to Tony Romo doing color with Jim Nantz.

Pretty darned good. A little overwrought from time to time, sometimes overtalks into the play, but contributions of substance.

Tony, when you stop by for a cup of coffee, a spot of advice from Your Plainsman: Take care of those pipes. Some hoarseness creeping in. Find a way to dial back when the point doesn't require emphasis.

Maybe a blast of Woodford Reserve before hitting the air.

  12. Allergies will cause that, as well. Not much can be done if that's the case.

  13. Wonder how many Prez bashing tickers will we here tomorrow morning. Oh, and how many games are the Rangers back again?

  14. I thought Tones was excellent. Instead of generic color analysis like "good sack there by the defense who really want to win the game," he was insightful in breaking down the play and explaining things from a QB's perspective. He wasn't afraid to be critical of players and play calling without being a dong about it. I felt like I learned more about football having listened to him, kinda like how I learn more about baseball every time I can focus in on what CJ has to say on Rangers games. Bravo, Tones. I love your body.

  15. Agree with Corn, but I do wish he'd stop yelling. You also get the sense he'd much rather be in the field than in the booth. To the point which I bet if a team came a calling, he'd bite.

  16. As the game went on, my ear did tire of the over-excitedness and his voice did, in fact, wear out. Content good, needs to keep his commentary more economical, needs to dial it back. Craig had the best comment this morning -- he needs to dial it back from an 11 to a 7.5.

But man, 3 games in and I can't believe I listened to Phil Simms all those years. Pretty impressive, and the Musers reported this morning that viewer response is overwhelmingly positive.

  17. Justin was supposed to fill in for Jake on Friday and called in sick fairly last minute. This was according to the BaD opening segment on Friday.

  18. Agreed on tones romes. He's been nothing short of excellent thus far. And I'm loving that praise for him has been pretty much unanimous across the national stage. I feared he would be given hell no matter the product produced simply because of his mostly unfair reputation over the years. But everyone seems to be buying in. Looks like we'll have two cowboy QB's on the main stage of big games for at least the next decade. Awesome.

  19. Somebody please muzzle the Hardline.
To hear ‘open-minded’ people be so intolerant to those with whom they disagree with is beyond not entertaining.
The flag/anthem is not based on blind allegiance to the military. That being said, it was not civil disobedience that this country was built on. It was our soldiers/citizens killing the soldiers of their oppressive rulers that this country was built on. Morons

    ReplyDelete
  20. @4:33 well... The point they, and many, many level headed folks on both sides of the political spectrum are trying to make, is that this entire situation and backlash there of is the result of blind allegiance to the flag/anthem. And a president that is bullying the masses into thinking any such display of civil disobedience is directly spitting in the face of the military. Which as a supporter of the first amendment comes across as extremely un-American and the opposite of what this country was built upon.

Say what you will about Danny and corby, we all know their political leanings, but when you have every conservative leaning host on the ticket also voice the ridiculousness of how this has turned into a THESE GUYS HATE MILITARY AND AMERICA conundrum, it's telling just how crazy all of this has become.

But yes. Call them "morons". You have every right to do so with little consequence other than embarrassing yourself on an internet forum..

  21. David Newbury's vocal delivery sometimes sounds like a weird mashup of Killer and David Moore. And I totally dig David Newbury on Cowboys pregame.

  22. If you have a problem with what Jerry and the Cowboys did tonight tell Miller Lite and Ford.

  23. 5:32. You nailed it!!!

4:53. “Conservative leaning host” on the Ticket?!? Are you kidding me!?!? Who?!?!

I’m very thankful I have Cobby & Dan Balls to tell me what to think about my expectations for the Cowboys, social issues and politics. Oh and music. So much more enlightened and above the fray. M. Rhyner actually said that anybody who voted for Trump is “stupid”. (Wish he had the nads to say that 20 years ago). C and D wouldn’t go that far except to say those who did just were blinded by his BS...and we HAD TO KNOW what a mistake we made. And they sound SO CONDESCENDING and if you happen to disagree then you’re a moron.

I actually love THL when they stay clear of the above topics. I like fart jokes and junior high jack assery as well as the next guy but politics/social issues have permeated EVERY show on the ticket. And it appears to be getting worse. Im getting tired of it but I guess I’m “welcome to go some place else for my sports talk”. Any more you hear less and less sports on the little one anyway.

  24. 6:53. You’re right. I honestly thought I was listening to David Moore.

  25. The difference for me is that after listening to the Musers and to Bob and Dan I felt like I had heard discussions of this controversial subject. After listening to the Hardline I felt like I had heard a sermon.

But they were right about one thing. This is not about disrespect to the military. I'm a Vietnam era veteran and I can tell you about disrespect to the military.

  26. Re 820's report:

    Interesting.

Mike Rhyner would prefer listening to Hillary Clinton for the next four years.

Guess he has a greater tolerance for the nails-on-blackboard female voice than he lets on.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If I worked with Corby, I'd prefer to listen to Hillary Clinton too!

    ReplyDelete
  28. there are no conservative leaning hosts on the ticket... anyone who actually identifies as a conservative can tell that

  29. Since "P"-Man (use your interpretation of what P stands for, closed a thread where someone disagreed with him, I wanted to flag support for Shaggy's last comment on the other thread:

"Another Anon @3:49 who wants to believe whatever the hell he/she wants without proof #trump

As an avid subscriber to the Unticket feeds, the nice lady started speaking at 2:23:16 into the broadcast and stopped at 2:33:54. This equates to Shaggy's 10 minutes and 38 seconds you jamoke."

  30. Hey MusersRule, I mean BKH. Seek help.

  31. Shaggy, you are correct about the ranting infant lasting 10 minutes. #pantsuitpretender

  32. I listened to "TnT" today and it wasn't that bad. It certainly was a nice change of pace from attitudinal Machine and Monty.

  33. Hope not. Think Mike made quite a statement at the end of E-news today. All should find and listen.

  34. 641: Do tell.

No present plans to discontinue MTC. I've been out of town for a week, accounting for no new material.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Briefly, what was the gist of Mike's statement?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Corby and Danny getting each other worked up on gun control issue. Corby says to Mike, "you are awfully quiet over there. What do you think about this?" Mike responds, "I don't think this is what people listen to us for." Corby and Danny were both a little taken aback and they went to break almost immediately after. Seemed a little awkward between all after that. Top 10/podcast version cuts off before that so not sure how someone can hear it.

I am not a gun owner or enthusiast and could even see some of the Corby/Danny points, but I completely agree with what Mike said. And I appreciate him saying it. I don't mind the Musers discussing such things because I think Gordon usually has well thought out HSOs on political issues. He, Junez and George have good discussion. I think even Danny's takes are mostly ok. Corby's seem from the hip with little thought or reason behind them. Then he and Danny get each other going and I have trouble keeping it tuned in. Glad I did this time.

  37. Thanks for the recap. Mike's correct, and I wish a certain section of the Varsity cast and crew would pay heed. OGW knew what it took to make this thing succeed, and I guarantee you be also knows the things that can destroy it.

  38. To me, the Ticket is not a sports station, it's more of a life station as hokey as that sounds...yes it's a heavy dose of sports, but I can get sports anywhere, I can't get that extra everyday lifestyle talk anywhere else.

That's why I don't have a problem with MOST of showgrams discussing political issues because I think political issues are part of everyday life. I don't always agree with them, but I do think they're being honest and mostly even with their discussions.

All of the above goes for The Musers, NormAndD, and BAD radio...Mike is right, no one listens to THL for political talk.
