What in the Name of All That is Ticket-Holy . . .

I only heard five minutes of it after I saw the posts you will see in just a moment.

This evening The Ticket broadcast a Ticket-produced shows with an all-chick lineup.

Not chicks talking sports.

Chicks talking relationships.

Chicks talking things of chick-heavy interest.

The five minutes I heard did not reflect well on the dos equis chromosome people.

It was not clear to me that these were Ticket Chicks in the sense of promo-event-enhancing Ticket Chicks.  But it was clearly a Ticket-produced showgram.

Maybe, as someone suggested below, it's a bit -- and given some of what was said, and in particular the Texas-flavor valley-girl patois, it's not out of the question.

I tried to catch the name of the show right at the end.  But all the chicks said it in unison and I didn't catch it.  It isn't on the Ticket website.  At first I thought it was the "Happy Hour," since they called that hour by that name a couple of times, but I gather that was just a part of the show.

However, this site does try to be fair.  If this is going to be on again, I'll try to catch the whole show.  Perhaps it has some merit.  Perhaps I will learn something.  Perhaps I will discover the cure for ankylosing spondylitis.

And perhaps no one much listens to The Ticket on Sunday evenings, so the CTO was taking a flyer on something way different.  I'm not opposed to that.  And chicks are of interest to guys.  Guys say they want to know what chicks are thinking about guys.  So this maybe wasn't such a stretch.  Maybe we should give it a chance.

Early reviews by Confessors, however, are unmixedly negative:

WHO DECIDED TO GIVE TICKET CHICKS THEIR OWN SHOW?

Seriously, I want to cut out my ear drums right now.

Thanks Cat.

What in Sam Hill is going on at the station right now????? It's 7:32 pm on 12/8/13, and there's a gaggle of hick chicks talking all eat, love, and pray meets Dr. Phil "let's get real" like. This is awful. They're talking about Pam flippin' Anderson's hair. "I'm Tori and 31 and blond. I went blond from brunette last Christmas..." "Blonds are not stupid!" "It's like you need to call all your like um guy friends next. We all are gonna tell you all how to get a new girl..."
Thanks a lot, Cat. Genius move. Let's see: You have Ty, TC, Machine, Fahey, Newbury, and others. . . . .and this is how you use time that could go to a deserving JV team????? Brilliant, man. Just brilliant.

@Chicken Pillow,
Indict me as guilty since as soon as I read your post I tuned in. That was so awful, I kept listening until a break. It is so terrible, it is nearly addictive. It was Cuban/Dallas CAN advertisement bad.

However, I wonder if it could be a bit or a test for Corby as the white noise those women are providing is EVERYTHING which he rails against on-air. But since they talk about events four days later, it might be a segment after drydock.

Well, they've confirmed what I've always thought about a lot of DFW chicks, they're really shallow.

1. Your car is important to them. Your choice of car reflects the "real you." A white GMC pickup = Maturity.

2. Cleanliness = Maturity.

3. Smell Good. Not clean, but good. Cologne = Maturity.

4. The Right Shoes. Preferably Italian Leather or Cowboy Boots.

5. Hang out at Bars, Often.

6. Wear a buttoned-up Oxford Shirt.

7. If you are a Frat Guy, say you are not. Even though all of the above describes every Frat Guy there ever was since the late-80s. Paradoxically, being an "Independent" constitutes being a loser.

8. Compliment women. But not overly so. Don't say they're hot. It means you are superficial. It means you only like their looks, not the person herself. The Criteria stated in 1-7, is not, I repeat, is not, superficial.

Thank you, Cat, [REDACTED].

I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope this b.s. is addressed by The Musers, BaD, and THL tomorrow. I want to hear Snake go off on these motor mouth yapsters.

This is stupid. Exactly what are these chicks qualifications to dispense with advice? What a fool's game of an endeavor this is.

Yeah.  I would really like to hear what any host thinks of this.  Only problem is, probably not a one of them heard it.  Anyone tweeting the thing so it might have come to someone's attention, like Town Crier Grubes?

Let's just remember, it's Sunday night.  A radio wasteland.  Who knows, maybe those chicks paid to do that show, like George DiGianni.  By the way, did anyone hear a sponsor for the thing?  As I said, the five minutes I heard -- I mean, I actually stared at the radio as though it had answers -- were train-wreckish, but I tuned in Ben & Skin again after the first five minutes I heard of their show, so I I'm willing to try a larger sample size.

If I remember, I'll try to tune in next week.  If anyone knows when the show started, and it's name, let me know.

  1. Started tonight. They are current Ticket Chicks. Not sure if it'll be on again, but something tells me we're going to hear a promo for the show before next weekend. No, I'm not Cat. No, I'm not affiliated with the station or these chicks in any way. Just guessing. I heard the last two segments. They are very annoying. They might not like frat guys, but they sure sound and have the same likes and dislikes in guys that pretty much every sorority girl and ex-sorority girl I've ever come in contact with. Those voices though. Man, that's a tough listen. All the talk to the hand, you go girl, put a ring on it, no matter what we say, no matter how illogical it is we're right and we want everything both ways and our way, valley girl meets former Texas high school cheerleader speak is too much. I'll never listen to that bulsh again.

  2. Wow, I'm sorry I missed it. It sounds like an epic train wreck.

  3. You know what? I KNOW where this is coming from. BaD had that Courtney what'shername from Most Eligible Dallas on this week. She sort of took over the show (well, she was allowed to by a swooning Dan and Donnie) and started this whole what women want riff. She might've even taken a few calls. I will bet the farm that this is where this is coming from. Cat in all his brilliance heard it and thought 'hmmmmm I can string this together and see if we have a winner.' If memory serves, everyone seemed quite enthralled with what she had to say during that seggie. Then again, she is a hot and she was in studio.

  4. I don't know anything about the show. Some of the girls could be people I know or used to know, but as a former JV dude at KTCK who fought like hell to get time as a host, and would have done it for free, this is a tad insulting. If i'm the other JV guys there at the station, guys who are begging for a chance, i'd be pissed. That's just me.

If it's a one off thing, then it's no big deal, but if it's a regular show going forward, then i'd be really mad if I were a JV dude there.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I didn't get to hear it, but I'll take everybody's word for how bad it was. Didn't they learn from the Café 990 failure several years ago that girl chat isn't viable? (the stated reason for the failure was that financing fell through)

But I will also say it had to be more entertaining than the genero network sports talk.

    ReplyDelete
  6. @Anon Ron - +1. Nothing is as big a beat down as the network sports. Didn't hear the girl thing because I can't remember the last time I listened to the station on a Sunday night (maybe never).

What is the point of having the shows simulcast on channel 47? I would think most of us are at work. When they did the cam at preseason I would stream that and go over to it occasionally.

Is this supposed to be an ongoing thing (if it has good ratings) or is this just a bit?

    ReplyDelete
  7. A-Ron, that's kind of my point. The network stuff they have to broadcast on Sunday evenings is of zero interest to me, but I might tune in to a chick-fueled catastrophe.

So possibly a CTO triumph, if not a victory for intelligent chatter.

    Interesting thought from 922.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 9:22 may be right, but I think that influence was always there with the fake callers who call in to act fake-slutty with Gordo on his unofficial "Ladies Day" or whatever he calls it.

This may have been the result of a drunk promise at the Ticket Christmas party (wasn't it last Thurs. night?).

OR, like any corporation, Cat gets pressure from higher up to appease the title IX crowd, ala Jayne Slater, and, even though it goes against the org's business philosophy and will probably only create more cost, get more estrogen on air. This may have been Cat's effort to appease the politically correct at a the lowest ratings period of the week. Just a few guesses.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The point of the simulcast is that channel 47 wants people to know that they exist. Also, they are airing the Cowboys-Bears game tonight. Makes sense for them.

You can watch online here, I've been watching all morning:

    ReplyDelete
  10. Also,

The Courtney thing was also in conjunction with the Channel 47 promotion. They didn't have her in studio--they were airing the audio from Donnie's appearance on their show, "The Broadcast". They were pretty much making fun of her and saying how annoying she was.

And KT, please stop with the desparate attempts. It's quite unbecoming for someone who claims to not care about what's going on at The Ticket anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  11. My bad then, Shaggy. I thought she was in studio. Still, that doesn't make the meat of my thought any less viable.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kevin T, we love us some Shaggy around here, but occasionally he does get out of sorts.

Your thoughts are welcome here, even when promoting your current employer or musing nostalgically on past employers.

We'll take our insights wherever we can find them, even if Fan-flavored.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Musers struggling.

TV making Gordon nervous? Odd. More interrupting than usual.

    Diarrhea talk at near-Hardline levels.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ticket TV is interesting. Norm is unsettling to watch at times. Imagine what it must've been like being his producer prior to having a computer to stare at in order to avert the intense gaze of one Norman Sabrina Hitzges?! It might only be a 10 hours per week gig, but whatever he's being paid, it isn't enough.

The Musers were a bit disappointing. Did anyone notice the numerous mentions of "we" by Craig? As in "we finally got our power back," "we went to my dad's," and so on. Maybe he's still married after all? Or maybe he has a new Lady Junes? Who knows. But overall, I'd give the D&M tv performance a C. Norm gets an A because he's exactly what everyone has always said he is. Intense, passionate, and more than a bit on the uncomfortable to watch/creepy side. Looking forward to BaD and THL...

One last thing. Maybe I missed it this morning, but I haven't heard anyone yet address last night's Ticket Chick Show.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I took the "we" to mean him and his dog.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And one more thing. KT, I agree with you. What must the Tys and TCs be thinking after such a show was aired? If it is a one off, which I can't imagine it is (why would they've gone to the effort at all?), then OK I can see where they'd scratch their heads, make fun of it, and move on. But if not, and again, I can't see how it isn't, then if I'm Ty, TC, Newbury, Machine, et alia, I'm more than peeved. Indeed, I'm actively seeking out new employment. It means that you sir are as high up on the chain as you're ever going to be. You sir are slotted. We will give TICKET CHICKS their own show before you. In the case of Ty, I'd have been looking around long ago. The day Jake (and this is no knock on him) gets his own show before me (me, having worked here for over a decade, doing everything and anything asked to, paid or not), I see the writing on the wall. It's in permanent ink.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Watching Channel 47, does wedding ring check mean anything?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lost me, 1220.

Sucks Bob can't be there. Dan seems morose. Almost like someone who has Aspergers or something. I don't mean that in a disparaging way, at all. I'm being serious. He has almost no expression on his face and he reacts in no way to anything said or that occurs around him. Stares downward a lot. It's not what I was expecting. Donnie is exactly how I thought he'd be. Engaging. I'm almost dreading watching Mike in action. That might be a seriously weird scene. I wonder if Danny will be on set? Sirois is an integral part of Norm's show and he was. Danny is for all intents and purposes the 3rd HL host. Guess we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You could very well be right, Potamus. But doesn't he have 2 dogs? Then again, pets are children for many couples these days. Maybe he took Lucy and she took the other? OK. No more. I know Pman doesn't want any speculation on these matters to take place.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry Anon 12:04, but whether it is TC, Ty, or any behind the scenes worker, just because you are employed there does not make it a birthright that you are deserving of a show. Radio nepotism is still nepotism and should not be encouraged. Honestly, I think that the female show has garnered more attention than anything which TC would have garnered since he makes me leave the station.

It is s little uncomfortable to hear the “stupid bitch” drop at noon on television. It all reeks as a slight step above cable access. However, it seems that in dealing with others, Donovan understands interactions and at least acting interested much more than others.

    ReplyDelete
  21. DA, I didn't say it was their birthright to have a show. Nor did I say that they ought to think it is. But let's be honest here, that IS why they are there. That IS their goal, their dream. So if I'm in their shoes, I'm thinking to myself(and that was the mien of my comment) that it might be time to start seriously considering moving on to another station. Which most likely means another, and probably much smaller, market. Either that or realize that this is it and be content with it. Maybe TC is. Maybe Ty is (though I can't imagine he is). I can guarantee you Machine, Newbury, and some of the others aren't.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Looking forward to the day BAD radio is just Bob and Donovan. He is so much better than Dan can ever hope to be. It seems he is just around to whip everyone. He proves at least what I hear daily. He looks as if he could care less. He comes across so beaten to be there. One day I keep hoping Donovan takes over as the true host with Bob. That would be a great show. Hopefully on the hardline they catch Mike sleeping

    ReplyDelete
  23. I didn't listen to that sunday show, but I can guess all those women live in uptown. Probably all went to SMU, drive a BMW, and live off their parents wealth. Try driving 5 min outside the Dallas lines and realize there are women with a lot better perspective. Most of the ticket chicks are college age or just above. If you want to hear women talk relationships turn on the view, or any other shows. If they are on SPORTS RADIO they should be talking sports. Ultimately, it would come down to sponsors. How many sponsors are lining up for Sunday night? Jake and TC are good on IJB, so they can polish out there.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So... I went and sat in the bleachers that Donnie referred to at Channel 47's studio. I had just left when he referred to it being empty. Surprised there weren't more that me and one other P1 for the 3 hours I was there. I sat next to Ticket Chick Lauren (one of the 3 TC's from the radio show Sunday night). She asked how they were received and I told her I didn't get to listen and I didn't want to be rude and say everyone that heard it said it sounded like a train wreck. She basically said they were somewhere and Cat bought them a round or two and asked if they'd like to fill a spot. It kind of grew into filling an entire hour. Overall I had a blast and got some good picture of the hosts, although not with me. I didn't want to beat them down.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @1:23...TC Lauren is about to graduate from TWU and get her masters. Not exactly the SMU type.

    ReplyDelete
  26. T4, you are precisely the kind of gentlemanly chap we treasure here at My Ticket Confession. I commend your restraint with Ticket Chick Lauren.

A lot of Confessors have apparently seen some of the Channel 47 programming today, but many have not. Can you give some T4-filtered impressions from the live presentation?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah okay, well TWU is not SMU. I was judging by their list of man requirements. Seems like they are looking for the 30K millionaire that hangs out at the W.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Gee, it's no wonder why the hosts seem so out of it at times, appear to not know what a conversation is about. They spend nearly every moment staring at their computer screens. I can guarantee you that Dan is not eyeing Mavs stats while talking Mavs with Donnie. I wonder if that's the reason all presentations have gone down a few ticks over the past 5 to 8 years? They're like teenagers who actually believe they're multitasking on a high level, when in fact they're half assing one thing while engaged with another.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not sure why Shaggy is so mad at me. Think about this. You work there, and go through the gamut. Work the over night board op shifts. Get slowly promoted through the ranks, and say YES to everything they want. You get paid nothing, but you do it for your career and for your dreams and just because it's the Ticket. You're desperate to be noticed, and then you find out that the Ticket Chicks are doing a show, when all of your attempts to get a show are always squashed. It's insulting. I guarantee you every other JV dude feels that way. I have friends over there on the JV squad and I feel bad for them.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Plus 1 KT. Then when you read how it came about (T4 has never been a bs-er before, so I believe his story, fully), it only makes sense that the JV is beside themselves. I know I'd be.

Mike looks professorial today. Either that or like a CFO. Dan does look better shaved bald.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i have been in and out as far as watching it online today. It has been interesting, but the transitions have been strange: i.e. you can here a promo for a second then it is cut off. I know Dan mentioned that the Ticket commercials are 6 minutes and the TV station is only 3 minutes. Plus, right now 3 Non Blonds are playing w/ nothing but the Ticket logo on.

It is interesting to see Mike in a suit and tie.

While I am not one who uses the comment section to try to talk directly to on air personality, I will break my own rule for KT this one time - your comments are giving off a strange vibe. I think many of us have been in the position of leaving one work place for another. You may not be doing it, but you seem to be trolling right now, trying to stir up the JV. Maybe you are trying to feel better about your decision to leave. But if this is all a part of some FAN plan, it reeks of desperation, IMO. But I can be, and am probably, completely wrong on this.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Question to anyone in the know... Ticket is obviously the dominant sports station in town. However, The FAN is the official flagship station of the Dallas Cowboys. Why then are they not broadcasting on Channel 47 for the cowboys game today. I am glad for the ticket it is cool to see them, just thought it was odd. Mike is cracking me up with his suit and professional broadcasting both TV and Radio

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, Michael looking sharp. He and Corby interacting much more eye-contact-wise than they do at, for example, remotes.

I'm wondering if Mike's finery for the day is an ironic comment on Junior's ragamuffin appearance this morning.

    The man looks good.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mike is rocking it today. Was so cool to see him do the intro to the presentation.

The FAN has a partnership with Channel 21. I think that might have something to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't think KT is trolling in the least. Though he might be subconsciously or not having some buyer's remorse on that career decision. The first of the year is about to roll around. That's when a lot of stations start doing their nut cutting. From everything I hear, and it isn't much but it is something, B&S are not in the driver's seat over there at FAN Inc. Gbag definitely is. K&C is to some degree. New School to some degree too. Wouldn't surprise me if B&S, and unfortunately our friend KT, are out da doh come the new year or soon thereafter.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Plainsman - as I watched Mike make eye contact with the camera, I thought about what you have previously written about that issue at remotes. I think it has been an interesting change of pace, to say the least. They seem to excel in some areas with the strutted aspect of tv, and struggle in other areas.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it's safe to say Mike is having fun with the TV - what with the suit and the eye contact.

But what is the deal with the return music mix?

    ReplyDelete
  38. With the tv in play, Mike is forced to interact with Rich and Dave. This is a good thing. Rich looks exactly like a Dick Hicks. I dig his work. Nubes is good too. He seems to have put on a cool 20 lbs since last I saw him at a Stars game, about a year ago.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ticket TV was greatness. Reminded me of the original Ticket TV way back when.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Brad G--spot on about KT.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I will say after going back and watching some of the coverage that it sounds all nice and everything on TV, but in studio, us P1's can only hear what the in studio hosts are saying. For the Musers not as much was missed but for THL when Danny is speaking, we couldn't hear any of that. No drops, traffic reports, etc. But, this was a working TV studio so they were always setting up the next commercial spot, which was shot when the Ticket was on commercial. It was an experience that we'll probably never get to experience. It was a fun situation. Thanks to the Ticket and Channel 47 for allowing this.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks for sharing your experience of it with us, T4. Cool stuff, brutha.

    ReplyDelete
  43. So, T4, you were there pretty much all day?

I laughed when THL first came on and they talked about the "six or so people over there on the bleachers" (Mike called one of them "Azuz" Ansari) and the camera went to the bleachers - then I paused the DVR and thought, "I wonder if any of those guys are Confessors."

    ReplyDelete
  44. Whoa deezy. Innerestin' thought. Pman, were you there, pal? Why does something inside me tell me that you were????? Well, were ya?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was only there for 3 hours. I missed the Gordo interview by about 45 minutes. Broke my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 1123: No, wasn't there. My office was closed but I had to work anyway, so no luck.

Fascinating observations. Too bad Bob couldn't have made it back. I was interested to read the comment on Dan. I think he's pretty good when he's in the driver's seat, maybe an off day.

Musers off their feed a little the last couple of days. Lots of detours, unusual.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Brad Gilbert

I'm not trolling at all. It boggles me that I get accused of pushing some FAN agenda. I'm just saying it's disappointing to hear about this show, when I have friends over there who are asking themselves WTF. Again, if it's a one-off thing it's not a big deal, but it's insulting to people who have put in hours and hours at minimum wage to hopefully get somewhere in the radio business or at The Ticket, and then you see Ticket Chicks doing a show.

Also, no i'm not getting fired in the new year, nor is B&S. I have no remorse about my decision.

Take it easy, i'll stop posting here now probably just because now that i'm not at The Ticket, there will be a few who still accuse me of pushing another agenda. The truth is, the business is not as bloody as guys like RW or others make you believe. A lot of people are friends with other people at the other stations. In the end it's competition, but it's not some FAN strategy for me to come over here and post. That's ludicrous.

    Much Love

    ReplyDelete
  48. KT, fwiw I haven't thought of your posts as trolling and I welcome your posts here.

I know I would be pissed if I was on the JV and some TCs got a show and we didn't but then again TV is a visual medium and I had rather look at chicks than TC.

Rhyner in a suit was jarring. I was hoping for throwback jersey of some sort and a scruffy half a week's grizzly growth on the jowls.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The TC's weren't on TV though. I'm pretty sure it was a one time deal. You can't blame Cat for trying whatever he can do, even if it's only a one time deal.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love the Ticket and all, but I can't believe that some listeners took time out of their day to go sit and watch people talk. It's crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, watching people talk is INSANE! Who would ever do such a thing?

Rhyner in a suit was indeed unsettling. He looked at the camera too much, too. On remote, he never even looks up from his phone/iPad/newspaper/lap, so the excessive eye contact was just wrong. He looked like he'd been coached or maybe just thought about it too much. Maybe he was doing a bit. Regardless, he seemed extra seedy the way he played to the camera.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Jason Witten show has been a big fail this season. I believe this is the 3rd time in the last month or 2 that he has not been on as scheduled.

    Now that's NOT choice.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't know who KT is friends with, but let's break down one if his comments. That the "jv" is going to be pissed because Cat gave a couple if ticket chicks a one time chance to see what they've got.
    JV?
    Sirois's? Don't they have a show already?
Seabass? Jake? The guys that already have shows?
Ty walker chicken? Stu cedar? Newberry?
Okay if I'm TC or "the machine " I'm pissed. But TC probably needs to learn to read handwriting on the wall. Maybe he just isn't that good, and he's peter principled himself to as far as he can go at the ticket. Machine? This is a guy that as far as I know interned up there and gets to produce a weekend show. Does that qualify him for a regular gig? And what "take" us he going to have that isn't already represented by Sean, jake, etc. at least the chicks don't have penises, that in itself is rare for the ticket. That's different, different enough to get them a one time shot in an off peak time. Smart jv team members take their chances when they come up, whether that be the fan, Birmingham, Austin or Colorado .

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shaggy, I would say that's VERY CHOICE! Nothing makes me happier than when I'm in my car during lunch and they announce the Witten show won't be happening. Next to the press conferences it's always been the biggest beat down for me; there's nothing entertaining about it at all (which is saying a lot since I enjoy just about all BaD interviews).

    ReplyDelete
  55. Speaking of BaD Interviews (stretch):

    Martellus Bennett.

Howcum he's a valuable asset for the Bears but washed out here? I follow the Bears a little since I used to live in Chi, and while he's not a superstar he's done some scoring for that bunch.

I spent a fair amount of time in the car today and got to hear more than the usual dose of Norm and BaD. Someone called into Norm and made what I thought was a very good point about the failure of Cowboys player development.

Anyone who knows something about sports care to comment?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Martellus, who coined his own nickname "Marty B," was a total clown while here. He was a high draft pick who was highly compensated and coddled. He was utterly lazy and only semi-interested in even playing the game while here. He was more famous for posting songs he wrote on Youtube about cereal and having "Jerry Jone Money." No, "Jone" isn't a typo. While here he was really into partying, bong hits, telling the media he was a funkadelicalicious phreekee space alien like Jimi Hendrix, making mucho time with the local Uptown coeds, an avid video game player, and par-tay thrower. Again, football was way down on his list of priorities. From Jerry "Jone" on down, he was begged by all to focus, to live up to his immense potential, to earn his immense paycheck, hell, to f'n TRY!. But he was too busy being Marty B. He was shipped off to NY, an organization that forced him to act more like a professional. Even there he was still hanging on to Marty B. Traded again, making less money at each stop, perhaps seeing that the money tree doesn't live forever, and perhaps even growing up a bit, Marty B, ahem, Martellus Bennett, has now decided to play football for a living. And he's the bad ass that the Cowboys (who, again, invested both a top draft pick and dollars in) thought he was. Now, of course, he's all business and claims he couldn't thrive in the circus atmosphere of Dallas. Because, ya know, he was all business while here.

    1. Sorry, but while Marty was lazy with the Cowboys, every contract just rand out. He was never traded. If he was, the Cowboys may have actually gotten some value for him.

Plus this Bears contract is huge.

    This is just plain weird.

Old RW is really trolling now. He keeps putting up Ticket speculation teasers on his now paywalled blog. Yes, RW, we all know about what went down Sunday.
What's worse is he's posting up fake comments that give little hints as to what his "scoop" or info is so as to make you want to fork over the bucks.

    ReplyDelete
  58. When Jerruh let's your contract expire, let's you go. You have been effectively traded. Jerruh never gets value for players. Except for a few draft moves, value and Jerruh are not in the same room. It's the Jerruh Way. His Bears contract is much less than his Dallas one. You have to look at guaranteed money and incentive marks, not merely the numbers, which usually mean very little.

What went down on Sunday? I guess I missed it. Thanks.

  60. Yeah, it's pretty sad over there for ol Ricjie. Talk about a downward spiral! Hope Sybil has the sense to parachute outta there!

  61. Jeramiah Ratlif said enough to convince me why Marty B is doing better in ChiTown than here in the Big D. Its a world class organization and ours is basically a laughing stock. I think that says tons. Also the db that left earlier this year (can't remember his name right now) said something similar. Jerry Jones has a freaking circus here.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Again, T4, Marty B was a grade a clown while in Dallas. He was that way at A&M, as well. Look, Jerry's a tool and a fool when it comes to his football team. But if you want to take the word of Ratliff, you're welcome to it. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything that dude is selling. His track record is abysmal on that front.

I have a feeling that it's going to be interesting from a barstool psychological perspective to watch RW over the next year.

    ReplyDelete
  63. 1. When Marty B was drafted Jerry did bring the circus to town (and to San Antonio) with Hard Knocks and all the other BS that was going on.
    2. They drafted ANOTHER 2nd round TE this year who so far hasn't done jack, just like Marty B. Not a knock on Escobar but you have to start looking at the other factors... like, say, the fact that they don't actually get a 2nd TE involved in the offense when they already have Witten.
    3. From watching Hard Knocks I question brother Garrett's coaching ability (the TE coach while Marty B was here)
    4. There are plenty of clowns out there who perform just fine so that in itself doesn't really tell you anything.

I don't really know whether it was Marty B's fault but I'm pretty sure the result would have been the same regardless. There's clearly a disconnect between what they're drafting and what they can do on the field (wonder why).

  64. Re: The Ticket JV

Let's take a look at some of the players.

TC: He has a regular slot albeit at a time when few listen. He does other things there and is mentioned/kicked in the nuts on all shows except Norm's. Maybe he hasn't left because this may be the best he can do in an on air role.

The Sirois Brothers: They have a regular slot (except when pre emptied by games) on the weekends. They also do fill in work when vacation time comes around. Mike is on the air during the week days serving as a de facto co host with Norm. He also covers a lot of Cowboy games. Cash also fills in when Followill cannot be on the Mavs post game show.

Sean Bass: He has a regular, on air presence during the week doing tickers and offering comments during two shows. He also has a regular weekend show and is the host of Diamond Talk. He also covers games which include Cowboy road games.

Ty Walker: same as Sean except for his presence is during one show and he does not have a regular weekend gig.

Jake: he has an on air presence during PM drive for the number 1 show in its time slot. He has a weekend slot and hosts the Mavs post game show.

David Newbury: he has a job in the real world. Whereas I suspect he would like a full time gig as a host at the Ticket, he sees what he is up against. He has his role on Cowboys pre-game and sometimes post game. He has done fill in host work and is a regular on Ticket Sports Saturday.

Stu Ceder: Stu has been there since day 1 and appears to be happy with his part time role.

Mike Marshall: a former intern who fills in as a producer and sometimes fill in on Cirque.

Apologies if I left anyone out or slighted anyone.

I was told by a Ticket Operative that hosting opportunities are there for Ticket Sports Saturday/Sunday. However, they do have a hard time getting people to sign up for these shifts. Seems to me that if one of the JV members wants hosting opportunities, then put your name in the rotation.

I do not think the girls on air will cause any of these guys to quit. They may be somewhat irritated but they may be looking at the big picture. If they want a host gig, they will have to go to a much smaller market and possibly out of state (see MASS or Krennick). As far as the thought of going to the Fan, they all can see what has happened to some of their associates who went over there along with ones who are still there-mired in last place and not getting heard. The bright side is that they are getting paid but as we all know, radio contracts do come up for renewal.

I like KT and feel that he has something. However, I do not listen to the other sports stations so I have not heard him since he left the nurturing biosphere.

    ReplyDelete
  65. My point was that he's producing like he wasn't here. I'm sure the Bears don't stand for the antics that Marty B was throwing down here. Plus he's probably getting better coaching, possibly because they don't have a meddling owner involved, unlike here.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh no. The return of the Hoodie Footie pajama spots.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Say what you will regarding Martelluss Bennett, but I think his failure here and success elsewhere speaks more toward the diseased Cowboys organization and it's impotent player drafting and development. The high achievers succeed IN SPITE of the Cowboys organization, not BECAUSE of it. Jerry has woven a culture of apathy and entitlement throughout the organization going on 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think Marty B is doing better in Chicago (he also did better in New York) because he's maturing. And he's being forced to mature by being in all business football organizations.

@#JTONTFJTGM Jerry's been bringing the circus long before Marty B was drafted. There are plenty of clowns who perform just fine. But there are plenty who don't; who let their clowning take priority; Marty B was one of them while playing for Dallas.

@big jim jack Well said. Though I don't think anyone said anything about JVs quitting. I believe it was more along the lines of putting feelers out for a new gig. You're right about their way is most likely the MaSS or Krenek way: small/smaller market, very probably out of state. If your operative is correct, then that says something about the JV, at least to some extent. It says they might be more into the lifestyle and "hang" than actually putting in the hard and "un Team Havin' Fun" work to actually make it.

  69. Norm discussing the Mack Brown/Nick Saban situation is just sad. It really shows just how out of touch he is with the realities of sports in 2013. Combined with his stuck-in-the-90s view of baseball and football, there just isn't much of a compelling reason to listen to him daily.

I've been listening to Norm talk sports for almost 30 years...but it really is time for somebody to step up and tell him it's time.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for a classic Norm "Mac Brown is a friend of mine. This is a very good man." It's funny how he doesn't even consider the leak might be coming from Mac's camp. That he knew he was out and wants to make the school look like the only bad actor. You can tell that Sirois respects and very much likes Norm, but you can also tell that he gets super frustrated with Norm's, at times, myopic views of certain subjects. You're dead on, Shaggy. Norm is stuck in the past in many regards. And not always in a a good way. While I don't think it's time for him to retire, I do think it might be time for him to take a smaller or different role at the station. By smaller, I mean he could use a partner. Either officially move Sirois into that role, or make Donnie his co host. They have a great chemistry. Besides, I think Donnie is under utilized and, quite frankly, unnecessary, to the BaD presentation. It could be a win-win-win. BaD will be less cluttered with bits and on air opinions that seem shoe horned in to give Donnie something to do, Norm gets some much needed support and a fresher voice, and Donnie becomes a full-fledged host--no longer an add on to an already crowded booth (Bob counts as 2 people, and it takes a personality that strong to counter Dan's subterfuge).

  85. Just remember KLIF put Leon Simon on with Norm for awhile as a co host.

    It didn't work then either.

Norm is there to appeal to the 50+ segment that still hangs around these days. It ain't all about 18-54 my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Actually, Gopher, it did work. When KLIF was subsumed by Cumulus (or whatever KTCK's parent company was then), The Ticket only wanted Norm. Norm loved being paired with Leon, and his audience loved Leon. Sorry, pal, but 18-54 is the only thing it's about. The only thing.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Just remember the 54+ crowd have money and spend it too. Would love to see a breakdown of the listeners that are "out of the demographic" these days. From the comments here I would be willing to bet the majority of Norm's listeners are out of that demo. I have listened to him since his days at WBAP shortly before he moved to the morning gig at KLIF.

He isn't everyone's cup of tea. I understand that. Any idea what his numbers are for his daypart?

    ReplyDelete
  88. 55+ msy have lots if money , and they may spend it. But what there's not is advertisers willing to spend big bucks on radio to reach that audience. The vast VAST majority of ad spending is on 25-54's. Where Norman Elizabeth Hitzges ranks #2 behind kzps.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Have to agree with above Anon, Gopher. There's a reason why Mike Rhyner himself refers to it as "that ever-coveted 25-54 demographic".

    ReplyDelete
  90. There was some more references to the Ticket Chick show on WTDS. Not so subtle innuendos towards Cat's motivations in putting it on the air.

Am I the only one who is clamoring for some unpacking, analysis, and deconstructing of the Raeger-Dykes ad campaign?

  92. Corby may be a polarizing sunuvagun, but I'll be damned if he doesn't have the greatest kids (re: his story of the door-to-door scammer's second appearance on his doorstep).

Between his 2nd grader giving her his last $5, and his 4 year-old saying, "You didn't give her MY money, did you?"

And remember when his second grader saw fireworks for the first time? He said something like:

After the first explosion: (Can't remember, but he was awestruck)

After the SECOND explosion, however: "Get the car."

And then there was the time Corby took him to the movies: "Biiiiig teevee."

Heck, maybe they were the same incident, I don't recall. His kiddos make for some funny stories, though.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Despite being an early Christmas gift for the P1, Uncle Barky says the Ticket simulcast was an epic fail ratings-wise.

"KTXD went all out for its first ever Cowboys game, inviting “The Ticket” (1310 AM) sports radio personalities in for an entire day of simulcasts. It was funny seeing “The Hardline’s” Mike Rhyner all dressed up in a suit, even if very few witnessed this spectacle. The simulcasts mostly had “hashmarks” (no measurable audience) and never rose above a TV audience of 4,970 viewers for any 15-minute segment measured by Nielsen Media Research."

    ReplyDelete
  94. That's about what I expected. The Ticket itself did very little to promote it. The ramp up to it began barely a week prior to airing. Once it began, the few promos that were aired were a bit confusing. The hosts did very little in regards to promotion, either. When you add in the other half of the equation, KTXD, a channel that most people don't know exists (meaning their promo efforts are almost meaningless), what you get is a big fat zero in the Nielsen's. I'm sure The FAN will in some bizarre fashion see this as a victory. Ditto RW.

    ReplyDelete
  95. When I was called (after sending in my email address to register for the contest) by a promotions person at the Ticket, they weren't even sure what was going on over there. The told us P1's to show up at 9:30 when in actuality Gordo was interviewing people in the stands at 8:45. I would've loved to had the chance to meet him one on one. (To the person who said "why would we take off of work", some of us like to meet the guys and interact with them. But...anyway, the people Gordo was interviewing worked for the Ticket and the guy in the blue shirt was a vendor there for a commercial. Anyway, I agree in that it was very poorly promoted and prepared for. They've got lots of marketing and promotions people who should make those things go smoother than it did. The ones I met there kind of acted like it was just "a job".

  100. I seriously hope Dan was doing a bit during the 5:30 music trivia segment. Can honestly say my 80 year old Grandma is more knowledgeable than him.

    ReplyDelete
  101. In all fairness to Dan, the tunes Mike was playing were more on the R&B end of 70s soft rock. In fact, there's a reason Danny knew them so well: that particular genre within 70s music is having a bit of a renaissance among the hipster crowd. I hang out on a somewhat frequent basis in a bar he and his friends are regulars at. It's mostly all they play on the juke. Hence Mike also being into it; he takes his cue from Dan Balls, Mr. Chad, and a few others--Mike has become quite "young" over the past few years in just about every way possible, including in "that position(s)." Dan is more of a "yacht rock" guy. By "yacht rock," I talking about Paul Young, Little River Band, Air Supply, Captain and Tennille, and some such.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Meant "at that position(s)."

    ReplyDelete
  103. The soft rock trivia was earlier. The 5:30 music trivia segment was 90s+ music. Dan couldn't identify Pearl Jam, Oasis, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, White Stripes, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, or U2. And they mostly played their biggest hits.

    ReplyDelete
  104. My God, what was that idiot Corby doing on BaD again today?! Can we not catch a break from this guy?

  105. I would very much love for someone to deconstruct the Reagor Dykes Auto Groooop spots.

  106. Couple notes:
Jane Slater was not a corporate decision. Belive or not, Bruce Gilbert had autonomy to make that call, and did. It would actually be more settling if corporate did push that down. The show needed a boost, and unfortunately, the wrong boost was hired.

Having The Most Elligible chick on had nothing to do with the Ticket Chick Show. You just don't throw a show together like that, if even on Sunday nights. There's more prep and planning and checks/balances than a week could allow.

KT and B&S are in no danger...furthermore, you should appreciate someone from the inside bringing insight, and having the balls to put their name on it....I sure don't.
