A P1 Conundrum -- Or, a Cheap Thread-Refresher

You're in love.

You're so in love, in fact, that you decide to ask your beloved to marry you.

You know what to do next.

The Diamond Doctor.

But there's a problem.

Your doors are starting to stick.  You  notice cracks in the paint on the drywall.  Your nephew's ball keeps rolling away from him, always toward the same end of the house.

Oh oh.

Foundation problems.

You know what to do next.

All-Pro Foundation Repair.

But there's another problem.

You only have a few large in the bank.

Enough for a nice ring.  Enough for some attention to your foundation.

But not enough for both.

How do you decide?

Because there's another problem for you, the in-love but living-on-that-tricky-Texas-soil P1.

Because now, all of the Ticket hosts are endorsing both All-Pro Foundation Repair and the Diamond Doctor, according to a DD ad I heard for the first time today.

  2. Heard Rich Phillips's sign-off on "Race Week today. He said he might be heard on The Ticket from time to time. He said that after a few weeks he would have a racing show from TMS, but, of course, not on the Little One.

    Continued success, Rich.

  3. So which would make a better couple TC &
Adrienne Bankert or Ron Washington &
    Whitney Drolen?

  4. Whitney Drolen... Overrated... Clap clap clap clap clap.. Overrated. She is no Kaime and Liddy

  5. Agree re Ms. Drolen. Was it Junior or Gordon who took off on her cravenly self-promoting Twitter offerings?

    ReplyDelete
  6. It was Junior and I was so proud. Refreshing compared to the New School boys who used to do a "Whats Whitney Wearing" segment.

    Not that great, buddy!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Agree Anon 1051,

Jake's problem seemed to be that she is exploiting a physical trait to her benefit. I am pissed that Michael Jordan could jump higher than most in his day.. That just wasn't fair. He should have stayed on the ground to keep things more fair. I have been a big Jake supporter but was disappointed by his immature handling of the in studio interview. Having said that Seabass was a bumbling horn dog.

  10. Why is Corby turning into such a smug a-hole?

Today he tweeted: "The fact that any human in DFW could be watching the Astros play right now with what's going on at Augusta is confounding."

What do you suppose the Old Grey Wolf was watching?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why are you reading a Corby tweet? Doesn't he beat you down enough on the show?

    ReplyDelete
  12. @4:02

    Ever heard of retweeting?

    ReplyDelete
  13. If you're following him then you'll see it eventually. What should have been said is why follow Corby on Twitter. You can bet I don't.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If you follow Corby on twitter you will see plenty of smug golf and tennis tweets.

I know I've been spreading lots of Corby hate around here...and I apologize for that. I wonder if I were to hang out with him one night..would my opinion change of him. He might be more Snake on air/twiiter than he is off air.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Count me as one who doesn't get the Jake fascination. I dread a whole week of him as the Musers' yuck monkey, damn! Bring Dooce in for a few days, jeez.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I see Whitney Drolen almost every morning when I'm at the gym, and with the sound down, I can testify that she is not, indeed, overrated. One of my all-time favorite Joonz moments from the past couple years was the #1 in his DFW Natural Wonders list: The Drolen-Dombeck mountain range. That's good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Can one of the P1's on here reset my foggy brain on the corky/Mike Mavs bet. Mike borrows Gordo's black beard dye for his remaining head hairs and corky gets a mohawk why?

I give 3 thumbs up to Whitney Drolen also. She may not be a perfect 10, but she is WAY hotter than any of my coworkers' wives. The same coworkers who complain Drolen's nostrils are not symmetrical or Kate Upton is fat.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mike declared that the Mavs would be a .500 team. So, if they went 42-40 or better, he gets the dye job. Corny said they'd be a 50-win team. So, if they go 49-33 or worse, he gets the mohawk.

So anything between 42 and 49 wins inclusive means the P1 double wins.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Don't apologize! Corby truly has nothing, almost to the point of total listener frustration.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Drolen has an incredible body. Met her a few times and she was nothing but sweet. Very nice lady.

    ReplyDelete
  21. G-Bag & Ben & Skin both in the top 10

    ReplyDelete
  22. Funny how this works. I don't give a flip about another elite sport - cycling. But it does not bother me at all to hear Junior kill a segment with cycling stories. Of course, Junior's approach on twitter would be to say "If you're watching the Astros game, you might want to switch over and see what's going on at the Tour de France today."

    It's all in the delivery.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Since we are bringing up old bits, what's with the Norm drops of "purple" and "not purple?"
I miss this one somewhere along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Regarding purple...I too have missed the intention of that meaning. Although from how they use it I can read between the lines. If some faithful confessor could kindly fill us in.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think it refers to the connectors the hosts use to play audio from their personal devices. They are letting the board op know which channel to pot up.

And then they got turned into Norm drops.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Doesn't anyone really care if Mike dye's his hair jet black or if Corby has a mohawk? I just have never understood the payoff for the listener.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Also, I believe Mino plays "purple" when they are talking about a black person and "not purple" when the person is not black. I'm just reading in between the lines though, I don't know this for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Purple = Black
    Not Purple = Not black

Based on Donovan's saying that someone is so black they are purple...

    ReplyDelete
  29. IMO Jake is doing a fine job with the Musers. They seem to have a growing chemistry and his intellect blends well with their show.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Looks like Junior has an ear to this blog. He did a segment on priority of watching sports this morning. He teased it by mentioning his and Corby's tweets and the response they got.....

I had to go into work and missed the segment but if you caught it...please recap.

BTW. Jake doing a fine job on the Musers.

    ReplyDelete
  31. In yesterday's 5:30 AM segment, Jake's first with the Musers, they discussed the travails of the BaD producer.

Junior, I believe it was, mentioned how hard BaD is on its producers. Jake said that he was probably going to catch hell from Bob and Dan, who would complain, if Jake did something worthwhile on the Musers showgram, that he didn't save it for BaD.

Jake also mentioned that he used to be jazzed when he would hear from Bob at night -- now he dreads it.

However, I don't want to give the impression that Jake was complaining. The remarks were made in a jocular spirit and I got the overall impression that he was OK with the BaD producer gig.

Someone -- I could not tell who, but it couldn't have been the absent Gordon -- was trying out a Dan impression in the background during this conversation, tossing in Dan-ish asides. Almost had to be George. Someday, someone's going to bust out a full Dan impression.

    ReplyDelete
  32. March Book. Russ finishes one decimal behind THL, G-Bag & Ben & Skin both in the top 10

    ReplyDelete
  33. Junior presented his own chart of priorities in sports viewing, starting with the Super Bowl and working backward. I was disappointed that Junior was adopting Corby's attitude that certain sporting events trump all others. To his credit, I don't think George was totally onboard with the idea.

If I don't follow the sport, I don't really care about it's premier event.

How would Junior feel if we all switched to the Fan or ESPN because they had an "important" sports guest?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Here is Junior's list:

    http://juniormiller1310.blogspot.com/2014/04/television-sports-viewing-value-chart.html

    ReplyDelete
  35. 12:59 - Junior ranks things. That's his bit.

As for the "purple", "not purple" thing, from what I understand, they have 2 audio cables in the studio for iPhone, iPod, computer, whatever. One of them is purple. One of them is not purple. As 9:14 said, it's for communicating which cable to the board op or host. Reading any meaning into it beyond that is a stretch.

I haven't caught that much of Muser Jake, but what I have heard has been pretty solid. He's finding the sweet spot between deferential and arrogant. He's a whole lot more Shake Jake than IJB Jake, and I've enjoyed what he has brought to the table so far.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I too could not POSSIBLY care less if Corby gets a Mohawk!! I guess it's supposed to be something about how we love Corby so much and thinking it's really funny.

    ReplyDelete
  37. But I do care if he gets a mohawk. I'm praying the Mavs lost that last game and THL make him own up to his bet and carry it out as long as he's supposed to. I'm sure we'll see some pics of both him and Rhynes in their new doos if he gets it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jake is doing a fantastic job on the Musers this week. His observations and news articles are a treat to listen to. I believe he has the intellect of Gordon without all of the nonsense. Gordon makes some great points when he gets serious about something, but it really bogs me down when we just breaks into a serious conversations with some random voice.

I am a big IJB P1 and really like listening to Jake and the points he makes. I feel that he has really grown since saying that space is SG and calling Buzz Aldrin some old F.

I like that he has moved to producer for BaDD radio. I don't listen to the Shake Joint on Sunday because it comes on during church, so I hope he is rewarded with a show down the road.

    ReplyDelete
  39. JakeZ gave some staff member named Mike Dundy about 30sec to get noticed on Gordo's corner this morning. I give the guy an "A" for his character/voice impersonations considering the time constraints. Pretty funny and hope to hear more of the guy.

I'll give Jake an "A-" for his efforts so far this week. I gave the minus because he recommended the propoganda-ridden Vice HBO TV show earlier this morning. Otherwise he's doing a good job in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Quick question. Why have I been hearing Sirois on THL? It almost seems like I've been hearing less Danny and more Sirois.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Danny has had the flu for the past couple days.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would like to hear Jake pipe in more during the Musers instead of just sticking to his three segments. I feel that he would have some good points during any of the sports segments that Gordo would not have.

His 8:40 bits have been rock solid all week long. I feel like it's a breath of fresh air having him on.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "I too could not POSSIBLY care less if Corby gets a Mohawk!! I guess it's supposed to be something about how we love Corby so much and thinking it's really funny."

On the contrary, I want Kirby to get a mohawk because I dislike him. He will look like an idiot, and it will be a reminder that another blowhard prediction of his was wrong.

I thought the Logan Gorley 8:40 bit was strong.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Another thing - I have enjoyed Sirois on THL. It seems like Rhynes used to really dislike him (as he seems to do with all "newcomers", although sometimes I think this is played up somewhat as a bit), but now he seems to genuinely like Sirois. I think that time they roomed together on the road turned Rhynes around on Sirois.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm the anon who Mon dreaded a week of Jake but I must say, he's doing OK. He's no intellect, that talk is a bit overblown, but he's bright, for sure.

Glad he's keeping mostly to his segment schedule as I feel I could tire of him quickly but so far, so good. I was wrong in my earlier assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Now as a black man I tend to overrate white women greatly, but even I can see how overrated Whitney Drolen is. I'd take that Adrienne Bankert any day of the week over her.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @blergoyen that was Logan Gorley doing Mike Gundy of Okie State, he of the "I'm a man! I'm 40!"

JakeZ has been a nice change of pace. I wonder if Brogan is going to get the permanent gig for morning tickers.

Heard Danny last Saturday, sounded sick as a dog.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anyone else having issues loading the sports day app today?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I for one couldn't care less about all the opinions of those who couldn't care less if Corby gets a Mohawk. I find all the programs on the ticket with all their bits and bets far more appealing than any of the competition either here or nationally. Bits are fun...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Logan Gourley. Very F'ing impressed at his 8:40 bit. Absolutely worth a listen if you missed it. I laughed out loud multiple times. Bravo, sir!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jake = Meh. Can't wait to have Gordo back. I don't mind Mike Sirois on with THL. Good change of pace. Something different. Doesn't try to force his way into the convo.

    ReplyDelete
  52. How can he with Corby around?!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anon 11:22,

Don't agree with your Jake = Meh analysis at all. He is not a Gordo nor tried to imitate Gordo. I thought he found his niche in the segments he did which were pretty insightful looks at things from his late 20s perspective. Gordo he is not, but I will take it over the rock star fill in like Doocy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The only thing that could possibly make the "Gordon Free Week" better, would be if he took Corby with him and they got stuck in a parallel universe that had nothing to offer but secondary sports and half-assed musicians. That way they would be in heaven since they are both experts in those fringe subjects.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Apparently Spaulding(?) Jones is going to Arkansas to "slay the hottest sorority butt Fayetteville has to offer".

    Talk about a funny bit.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Was that Jake doing Spalding? I'll give him credit for trying. It kind of sounded like The Musers' friend from years ago that called in a couple of times impersonating a black chick. Does anyone remember that? He sounded like the bastard child of Nene Leakes and Charles Barkley.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm much more of Jake fan than a Musers fan and I'm surprised how well they've meshed this week.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Don't know If any of you have seen on Twitter but here's a good pic of Corby and Rhynes...Check out @steverossen's Tweet: https://twitter.com/steverossen/status/456936948603420672

    Btw, not my Twitter account

    ReplyDelete
  59. That Corby has a family function with the wife's family and church on Easter Sunday just makes it that much more delicious.

    yay for good bet payoffs.

As far as Drolen and other assorted hots on the TV news I could not care less. I want her to be reasonably not a hag, but I care more about whether or not she can do her job. Give me Em over most of the sideline reporters I can name. Kristi (sp?) is also competent. Gina Miller has gone full haus frau. The last sports pertinent blog I can remember of hers was to advise ladies who had questions about the new bag restrictions at Jerry World. Sports is on the periphery of her radar now. Out of sheer laziness I haven't deleted her off my blog feed. Hasn't had one that didn't have to do with shoes, food or kids in months. She's married and a mom now, I get it, but that is not what I want to read on my blogs of choice. I can't say much concerning Drolen's competence, have not seen even it in action.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thought Jake's Spaulding character was great for a first time bit. He had George laughing hysterically. I guess Gordo isn't the only clever character creator at the Ticket?

    ReplyDelete
  61. George was being generous with his over laughter. Like he is at times with Gordo during other 8:40 bits. The condi rice line was pretty funny, other than that it fell a little flat. Not a bad first try though. I actually think sirois would be great at a Gordon like 8:40 character. He's clearly the second wittiest personality the station has.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jake as Spaulding was really, really funny.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree. I heard it for the 1st time today and it was a character that I've never heard before or didn't sound like Jake either.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Big Jake fan but I loved the Spaulding character. It obviously greatly resembled Dillon the argumentative teen but some of the lines were great. Playing putt putt with Drake, changing the uniforms bit, referencing pulling the jersey over his head, firing his uncles, I loved it all.

    ReplyDelete
  65. March Book. Russ finishes one decimal behind THL, G-Bag & Ben & Skin both in the top 10

    ReplyDelete
  66. What do you mean by one decimal place behind? One order of magnitude?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anon 1031 pm 4/16

You said: "Logan Gourley. Very F'ing impressed at his 8:40 bit. Absolutely worth a listen if you missed it. I laughed out loud multiple times. Bravo, sir"

Wrong - it was Jake who did the voice bit however I agree it was funny.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was referencing the Mike Gundy/Farrell multi-voice 8:40 bit that Logan did, not the Jake-Spaulding one.

      Delete
    2. Not only that, I posted it on 4/16, which was a day before Jake even made his Spaulding debut. "Wrong". Lulz.

      Delete
  68. (1) I believe Gourley did the multi-voice 8:40 segment the day or so previously, and it was also quite good.

In fact, this week on The Musers has been something of a revelation, has it not? Of course, there's a difference between doing bits for a couple of decades like Gordon, and coming up with some comedy just once or twice a week. But we're seeing some talent there, and also seeing a Gordon-free Musers that people seem to agree sounds pretty good. I'm a Gordon fan, but Jake once again shows that his schtick works in any number of roles at The Little One. Would not shock me if he's fielding calls from competitors.

    (2) This is the second time someone has talked about something being a decimal point behind THL. Someone usually posts the ratings -- I looked for them but obviously was looking in the wrong place.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I had no idea that was Jake doing the Spaulding bit. I thought it was Logan Gorley again, so I'm impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  70. @1101 it means that Russ and THL were essentially tied for #1 M25-54 in march. Russ' s ratings and KEGL overall have been steadily gaining for a while now. Of course noone here cares to pay attention until they see an error filled barry horn post. Ben & skin are also in the top 10 and Gbag was in the top 10 for middays.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'll admit that Corby grates on my nerves, but I'll listen to THL a million times over that sickening pile of crap Russ Martin.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jake impressed this week with the Musers IMO. What do you see for Jake in the future? Replacement for either Rhynes or Norm which ever comes first potentially? Reunite with TC for IJB from 10 to noon in a few years when Norm retires or passes on? They will both be that much more experienced and mature. I also think Jake meshes well with Corby and Danny. Perhaps that is the future of THL post Rhynes?

    ReplyDelete
  73. I've decided Corby's Mohawk is a win-win for him.

Hasn't his history been to let his hair get shaggy and then cut it real short in the summer? So a shaved head or a buzz cut post-mohawk wouldn't be unusual for him.

And he gets another chapter in Ticket lore.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Agree the Mohawk is net beneficial for Corby - he will pull even more tail with the edgy look

    ReplyDelete
  75. Count me in as another who thought Jake was solid this week subbing for Gordo. And the Spaulding bit was the most inspired character I've heard in awhile.

I don't know if he could keep it up over the long haul, but I'd sure be interested in hearing more of him.

    ReplyDelete

Although the hairdos were over the top ridiculous there was some really solid songwriting and melodic hooks in the 80s. Hadnt thought about these guys or song in 10 plus years when I happened across it on Vevo while playing another 80s great song: I cant hold back by Survivor.

  84. I know this has nothing to do with The Ticket or this thread, but I have a question: is there a way to listen to 103.3 via an app?

    ReplyDelete
  85. The race for second place among Dallas-Fort Worth's three all-sports radio stations appears to be heating up.

While SportsRadio 1310 The Ticket remains in a ratings class all by itself, 105.3-FM The Fan moved into second place ahead of ESPN-FM 103.3 in the key demographic during the March ratings period.

In the all-important demographic of men 25-54, it was: The Ticket with a 5.5 share; Fan 2.6; ESPN 2.5.

Down deeper in the numbers – the men 25-54 demo when the high-profile local talent works weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. – the score was: Ticket 6.9; Fan 3.1; ESPN 2.9.

The Ticket won every weekday hour from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Fan finished second during nine hours, ESPN finished second in four hours. The Fan was second from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The only hour that drew a double-digit share in men 25-54 was The Ticket’s Musers at 8 a.m. when they posted a 10.6 share. In that hour the Muser’s almost doubled the combined ratings produced by The Fan and ESPN (5.7).

The top-rated hour at The Fan was at noon when GBag Nation pulled a 4.3 share. The top-rated local hour at ESPN was at 4 p.m. when The Afternoon Show earned a 3.6. Mike and Mike earned a 3.9 at 6 a.m.

  86. I just saw the bet payoff pictures on the greatness known as The Unticket (http://www.theunticket.com/the-hardline-bet-payoff-pictures/) and I have to agree with a few others here and say it just doesn't move my needle. It was 30 solid seconds of entertainment seeing the pictures, and it helped them kill close to a dozen segments (of which I actually listened to probably 1) leading up to it and then actually doing it. Other than that, I don't really care. Special Exemption Cobby will look like an idiot for a couple weeks before he bends the rules and gets around the mohawk in some way. Rhynes will looks slightly creepier for a couple weeks until the color starts to fade. Meh?

Of the visual bet payoffs in The Ticket's history, the short-term, high-embarrassment ones have always been more entertaining for me. The diaper run, Grubes and Sea Bass in spandex at the Rangers game, Georgio in Under Armor and Dan as Batman on public transport were a whole lot funnier to me. It probably had as much to do with who was involved and how it was presented than anything, and it's no coincidence that most of my favorites are BaD(D)-connected.

I tell my teenager that what they listen to now (as a teenager) will have a lot of influence to what they listen to for the rest of their life.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes playoff Hockey!!
It goes to show how singularly important the Goalies play is in any particular game. Kari had 37 saves in game 3 and a shutout. The elephant in the hockey room is that he simply didn't play that well in the first 2 games. Ducks had some point blank opportunities last night and he shut down everything.

  94. LMAO. I let a few days go by and MTC takes it to another level, albeit in the comments, by bringing up Giuffria. When I first read that name, my middle-aged synapses spun up the melody from Zebra's "Tell Me What You Want." But then I slowly remembered they were two different bands. This little MTC community almost makes me giddy.

  96. Glad to help refresh your Giuffria memories. As far as Zebra is concerned I was always partial to The La La Song and Who's Behind The Door. Zebra - the 3rd best power Trio of that era behind Triumph and then their holiness - RUSH!!!

  97. I was listening to The Fan yesterday afternoon (I can't stand listening to BaD Radio) and heard the show hosts throw it to Rich Phillips to talk about what's going on at the Texas Motor Speedway. Jarring to say the least!
