LIGHTLY BREAKING: Justin and Machine Join Saturday Lineup

I'm way behind the social network curve on this one.  I actually had this tidbit hours ago but was in meetings all day and unable to scoop it, but nevertheless:

"Not a Podcast," starring Justin Montemayor and Mike "The Machine" Marshall will permanently join the Ticket’s Saturday schedule from 10am-12.

I think most Confessors will agree that this has been an excellent pairing.  I'm not a giant Machine pop-on fan, but I have really liked his shows with Justin.  These guys definitely deserve the gig and a chance to hone their on-air skills.

Justin is an interesting case.  Not flashy.  Just likable.  With a dollop of warmth and humor, he'd be a candidate for a Muser-type show, lower-key, salt/earth host type.

Machine's got something going on with his timbre that is hard for Ticket audio technology to digest, but his show-sound is much better than his pop-on sound, and he's got some sportsy chops and some pop-culture stuff happening without the Jake-as-Argumentative-Dylan vibe.

"Machine or Justin, Justin or Machine?  I just can't decide!  I wonder if they have George DiGianni's number."

Something to look forward to on Saturday mornings now after that certain Tee Box.

My Ticket Confession offers hearty congratulations to them both, and to The Ticket for a solid weekend call.

  1. Congrats to Machine and Ole Monty. Well deserved kiss from Cat, I'd say. However, if this is the outcome of tease that So Anonymous has now twice thrown our way, I have to say "meh." Not "meh" as in big deal, it's another weekend JV show, but rather "meh" as in that show has been on for some time now, it only lacked an official name, and, I guess, the official "you've cut the mustard" seal of approval from Cat. Glad they've received both, but this, if it is So Anon's tease come true, is nothing worth teasing about. When there's an actual weekday change, then yes, by all means, that's newsworthy.

    So Anonymous = Cat? Starting to think so. . . . .

  4. As long as it's not TC, I'm all for it. I really have enjoyed the Machine and Justin pairing when I've tuned in, although I think Machine better be careful with some of his HSO's on twitter and the air. I really enjoy his work, but he'd be second in the "most likely to get fired" odds at the station. Don't pull a sober Bacsik.

  6. Scuttlebutt is.....something pretty major is coming down on Norm's show tomorrow. What that is, I don't know. My hunch is that it's tied to Sirois. That, he's going to officially become Norm's co-host. Or Norm is announcing his farewell tour--i.e. "I never thought I'd be announcing this, I thought I'd die on air or be forced out, but I'm not getting younger and there are so many places I want to see with Mary, while I can etc."

If the latter, I'd buy it. I'd also buy Cat/CTOs forcing him out, but allowing him to construct the exit narrative.

  7. Norm has 2 more years on his contract, btw.

  8. Fight Night continued to be promoted like an unwanted stepchild -- very perfunctory, no bits or segments burnt on the thing. And here it is. Oh, they ran ads for it, but nothing like in past years. Wonder what's up.

  9. Happy to hear about this pairing. I like both these guys. Guess this makes up for Montemayor getting screwed out of the 10-3 ticker slot.

As long as IJB doesn't get a weekend home I'm happy.

Love the redhead. The freckles on the chest have always done something for me.

  10. Ad hoc rule: No discussion of gun control here, or the hosts' views on it. Almost all of us agree we don't want the hosts discussing current events, irrespective of their sophistication about the topic at hand. Let's leave this one at that.

  11. When in doubt I whip it outAugust 27, 2015 at 6:19 PM

Can't put my finger on it, PDazzle, but there's been something not quite right in the air with the station as a whole for the last several months. The lack of zing, zest, and overall promo drive of this year's FN seems to fit into my 'can't quite articulate it but it's there nonetheless' feeling of other shoe-ness about to fall vibe thingy. Don't know if thus supposed 'event' that's taking place mañana on Norm's show has anything to do with it, but whatever it is, if it is, It won't surprise me. Specially if it's less than kick arse news.

Like I said, my Spidey Senses have been all a tingle for a fortnight times in forever. Ratings don't seem to be returning to the normal slaughter status, 'cept for The Musers. Been tons of attempts to kick it Ticket old skool, like show cross pollination. Been the kinda odd way of going about it that sometimes works sometimes doesn't attempt at making weeknights local. Some weeknights, at least. OK, a weeknight.

Maybe a little somethin' somethin' is cookin' in the kitchen with Dinah? Hell, maybe all that and playin' on the ole banjo.

Any major dude will tell ya, brutha.

  12. Love the decision to make NAP official on Saturdays. Was a little skeptical at first, but whenever I've tuned in I've really enjoyed Machine and Justin. Good goin', fellas.

  13. Thank you all for you kind words. I'm sorry I didn't see this until now. We'll try not to disappoint you. Give us some time as we figure out how to correctly spread our bag of nothing into a two hour block.
