The Song of the P1 Yout'

The following item was offered as a comment to the last thread.  I thought it was worth highlighting as a post because it is indeed reaching the point where the successive midday ratings books may well be characterized as illustrating a trend.

It's a little stream-of-unconscious but I think the essential points are hard to miss.  And reflect what we hear from other younger P1s from time to time.

Thanks to Anonymous for his or her thoughts.  They follow the asterisks.

How about those ratings!

No need to worry, Cat "has this," Just ask him. Oh wait, we did.

I'm 23 years old. I can tell you exactly why The Ticket is losing listeners and why The FAN is gaining them. Nothing to do with the Cowboys or Rangers. They've had the Cowboys for several years, and the ratings weren't an issue in the past. The Cowboys being good has nothing to do with it either. They kill in the ratings no matter how they play. Always have, always will.

It's a connection thing with listeners. Thing is, me and my friends listen to both stations. Sorry ESPN, you don't cut it and the ratings show it. Basically it comes down the hosts on The Ticket that are in my demo are too cool and the supposed anchor show is trying to be the too cool younger personalities. It doesn't work, anyway you slice it.

The overwhelming majority of us younger listeners do not listen to or really know about all the hip, cool and only the tastiest of tasteful people music and festivals and have all the right political and social views and all that. The stuff we like is nothing but made fun of and shitted upon. That means we are made fun of and shitted upon. From what I understand, it used to be for everyday dudes by everyday dudes. Now it's Dallas Observer radio. Don't get me wrong, a little hipness is cool. But the guys who I'm supposed to relate to, Jake, Machine, and I guess Sean Bass, are totally cliquish. The Hardline is a joke to most of us. My grandpa and 2 uncles acting like their my age. Are you kidding me? If that's the way Mike, Corby and Danny really are, then holy s, someone kill me when I'm their age if I think I'm still my age now.

Obviously I wasn't around back in the day but from what I hear it was all about connecting with listener. Seems like The Ticket only wants a certain kind of listener. Fact is, there's a lot more of us un cool kids who like all the music and things in life that so many hosts on The Ticket go out of their way to put down, and put down harshly, than there are cool kids. When they do that, they're also putting us down.

Sure Chris Arnold is [unflattering descriptor omitted] who tries way too hard. Sure Gavin and some of the other hosts and board ops and others can be douchey at times. But they never go out of their way to slam everything that doesn't meet their standard of coolness. You want to feel like you belong. Not like you can't get in the club. The FAN is way more inclusive. I admit that it's awfully flawed. Still. I'd rather hang out where I'm not constantly taking it in the nuts for so much of what I think, like and believe. Trust me. I'm not alone. The ratings show it.

Everyone of the things you mentioned are done by THL, right? I don't see the Musers doing a lot of putting down others' likes(maybe in Biggest Show Coming to Town?). Norm certainly isn't that way. You might get some of that on BAD, but the constant nut kicking really comes down to Corby/Danny/Mike. I am not the same age as you (I'm 40), and I don't really care what these guys say about my particular interests. So if they kick my favorite band or show in the nuts, I don't take it as a nut kick to me.

That said, I do get tired of the assumption that I care what THEY like. I don't. I don't care about their favorite show, or band, or 'film' or concert. I probably would if I only heard about it occasionally, because I love insights into the hosts' lives. But on THL, I do agree that it has become a Chris-Chris brag sesh. It's hilarious that Corby used to give CJ Wilson such a bad time about being a douche, because they are nearly identical that way.

  2. THL alienates the young P1s by kicking all the things they like in the nuts, and they also kick some of the older more conservative P1s in the nuts with their political and religious rants. BTW, for people that like to get on their progressive soapbox and preach to everyone about politics, they didn't even know who Chuck Schumer is when doing a segment about Amy Schumer and gun control a couple weeks back. He has only been a U.S. Senator for 16 years.

I like bits, and good sports talk. I don't want to listen to Hacksaw or Mike Francessa, but I also don't want to have 40 something's who are loaded preaching to me about social issues.

  3. This saddens me but there's no reversing course. I tune in less and less now and don't feel bad about it or that I missed any gold. And keep saying that TC has no impact whatsoever on the ratings, but numbers don't lie and he's as brutal as ever.

    So long old 1310.

  4. I've been flying by the site so fast and superficially trying to keep up with comments and throw up a post now and then that I've missed any recent ratings news.

If anyone has a recent link to what's up with the ratings, please hand it over.

I can't tell if we're talking about the last dismal news for midday/PM drive, or if there is more recent dismal news.

    Thanks a lot.

  6. 27-year-old here who's been listening for 5 years.

    The OP isn't complaining as a 23-year-old. He's complaining as a plebe.

"The overwhelming majority of us younger listeners do not listen to or really know about all the hip, cool and only the tastiest of tasteful people music and festivals and have all the right political and social views and all that."

I only ever hear the Musers and THL talk about music; their favorite bands are U2 and the Foo Fighters respectively. The Ticket hosts are hardly the arbiters of hip music. Apologies to Mike, who is a dyed-in-the-wool musical nerd...circa 1985. The music that gets ridiculed on the Ticket (e.g., Bro Country, Creed, etc.) is equally ridiculed among all age groups.

The hosts (read: Corbett) don't wax poetic about taste-making concerts. They yuk-yuk about Chris-Chris retreats. For Chris-Chrises young and old.

The hosts never broach controversial political issues. What little "social commentary" we get is equal opportunity annoyingly stupid with knee-jerk reactions that lean both right and left.

The hosts--especially the younger ones--are exceptionally cliquish. But what do you expect from 20-and-30-somethings who choose to work at a radio station like the Ticket?

The other stations are definitely more "inclusive," but who wants to be included in hot garbage? The other stations are just not good. Their hosts aren't, their content isn't good, their humor isn't good. It's exceptionally bad radio.

If OP wants to tune out because he thinks the Ticket hosts are inaccessibly cool, then good riddance. The hosts are sometimes annoyingly out-of-touch, but hipsters they are not. But if the Ticket catered to the tastes of someone who thinks the current hosts are "too-hip liberals," this 20-something sure as hell wouldn't tune in.

  7. To Anon at 4:32 . . .

"The hosts never broach controversial political issues."

Not true. You need to listen more, particularly after 5 pm.

"What little "social commentary" we get is equal opportunity annoyingly stupid with knee-jerk reactions that lean both right and left."

Can you give an example of when Corby or Danny have knee-jerked to the right?

    ReplyDelete
  8. "The hosts never broach controversial political issues. What little "social commentary" we get is equal opportunity annoyingly stupid with knee-jerk reactions that lean both right and left."

Are you sure you're talking about The Ticket, 432 Anon? Sans talking directly about abortion, there isn't a day that goes by where either Gordon, George, Corby, Dan, or Danny doesn't offer their expert analysis on every hot button issue that comes down the pike.

Metal is also ridiculed. It's not just bro country.

"[G]ood riddence," Rather harsh. The kid was only stating his/her opinion on why The Ticket is losing/not gaining new listeners. If that's his/her experience, then that's what it is.

Frankly, I'm with bubba. It doesn't mean a thing to me when the hosts (mostly THL and the upper echelon JV) bag on my likes or spout off (mostly uninformed) socio-political HSOs with which I disagree. I too tune in for some sports talk and a bit of shenanigans. The rest I shrug off. For Pete's sake, these guys have to fill up nearly 20 hours of airtime per week, and have been doing so for over 20 years. They're going to touch the political, religion, and all sundry of pages. If they didn't, they'd dry up, and we'd all bitch about how generic and stale they are. Though there are those who argue they are indeed stale. You can't please everyone.

    "Plebe." Oh brother.

Whether you like it or not, and by your comment you don't, the 23 year old kid is correct: there are more of his/her "type" than yours--and most likely mine--out there in listener land. I ask you merely to attend one Rangers, Stars, Mavs, or Cowboys game; check out one week's Billboard listing; et cetera. You will see the kid is more right than wrong. The comment is about why The Ticket is not gaining new listeners, not how The FAN is better. In fact, the comment explicitly states that The FAN is "awfully flawed." Hell, Plainsman had to edit out his/her description of Chris Arnold; so the comment was decidedly not some FAN Fan trolling.

Frankly, you more than sort of prove his or her point regarding The Ticket being "Dallas Observer radio."

    ReplyDelete
  9. Agree with 4:23. 29 year old P1 here and if you are really butthurt about THL calling out terrible bro country for the douchey formulaic crap that it is, you probably shouldn't be listening to The Ticket. Hell, maybe Russ Martin is more your speed. Actual lols that anyone would think that a guy who praises Pearl Jam all the time is some elitist music snob. And as far as politics, might blow your mind but myself and most people I know my age share very similar political views as Danny and Corby. The Ticket still speaks to me because I'm glad to listen to guys who clown on terrible music or Two and a half Men or whatever other lowest common denominator stuff they clown on.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think the comment is on to something. There are several influential voices and some soon to be influential voices who can be every bit as divisive as any AM talk show host. These voices have become louder and more frequent in their expression over the past few years. When it comes to THL, I must agree that Dallas Observer radio is an apt description.

And if you don't think Norm will toss out a political or social HSO, then you don't listen to Norm very often. He's not a volume shooter like some of the others, but nonetheless, Norm will in no uncertain terms let you know what he thinks and on what side of the aisle he sits.

While I haven't been run off by THL, I do find myself listening less and less once WTDS ends. I used to NEVER miss a HL segment. Not so anymore. I can't help but think that I'm not alone in doing so. After reading Horn's ratings breakdown, I don't think I am. I do listen to DnM as much as I can in the morning. And I have Norm on as background music while at work. With BaDD, it depends on the segment. Bits and movie talk make me turn down the volume, but any and all sports talk gets my full attention.

    ReplyDelete
  11. If the show is a fun show to listen to, age isn't really the problem. Muser's get great ratings. THL's problem is that it's just not a consistently fun show. It has it's moments, but very few. I hate to bash Corby, but he is a lot of the problem; always has been. I remember how all the skateboard crowd thot Corby was so funny. After enough time, they turned on him. I was laughing at the "Lew Irwin" story last week, how Corby was just condescendingly making fun of the old dude. So, I google ol Lew, let me tell you, Corbs can only dream of having a career like his. And yes, he very well could be driving Uber just to stay busy. It's going to be funny, or really sad, to see where Mr. Davidson ends up when Rhyner's coattail breaks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The most difficult thing to believe in all of this is why anyone would listen to G-Bag, Ben & Skin or those two in the morning. No-talent hacks. All of them. Yes, the HL has become bothersome, BADD has a bad case of IJB and Norm hit his prime about 20 years ago but the competition offers the biggest bag of crap. 5 minutes of Chris Arnold, Dawson or any other host on the Fan is a beating of the highest order. These guys are a dumbed down version of our heroes. Outside of the Musers I find myself not listening to Norm at all and less and less of BADD and the HL. But I'm not moving over to the Fan because I know what awaits me: a full out assault on my senses. The numbers don't lie, our boys are in trouble and listeners are fleeing to the Fan. I'm not one of them

    ReplyDelete
  13. @ 1:44 AM, In fact Junior mentioned that they got in touch with a family friend of Lew Irwin and he does in fact drive UBER to stay busy and socialize, the Musers plan to have him on soon.

Okay, let's talk Jason Garrett Press Conferences. Question, does the Ticket have to run them, I would assume not since they are not the flagship. If they don't have to, then why do they. I would assume it is a punchout for most everyone that is not hard core Cowboy sports junkie. Even Bob pokes fun at them. So if the hosts hate running them, and the listener most likely tunes out, does it again come down to advertising dollars? For a show that bogs too often anyway, the Garrett presser runs it completely off the rails.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The problem is not that the shows (particularly THL) have political discussions. You can't discuss current events without politics getting in the way. As has been pointed out, you gotta kill segments. Particularly if the sports news of the day has been sliced and diced since 5:30 am.

What is off-putting is the pontificating from the pulpit of certainty. If I want a lecture I can go listen to Limbaugh, Hannity or Levin. Here's a suggestion. You don't have to be wishy-washy. You can have an opinion. But how about allowing for the possibility that there is another valid point of view that you haven't considered? Maybe not as massive, maybe not as iconic, but valid nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Funny thing, 924, this very morning, The Musers were commenting on how big bro country is, and how more people like it than not. If we're going to throw around terms like "butt hurt" (and I'm surprised Pman is allowing it to be thrown, as it's a form of ad hominem), you sound like the "butt hurt" party, not the commenter. If you go back a actually reread the comment, there is nothing said specifically about bro country. To point out again, metal is another favorite target of Danny, Corby, Mike, Gordon, and sometimes George. You might want to consider that, at least here in Texas (especially the DFW area), many if not most folks, regardless of age, do not share in toto all the socio-political views espoused by Danny and Corby (and per you, you). The point of the comment, at least as I read it, is not to say "boo Ticket, boo THL," but rather "this is why I think The Ticket is not gaining listeners, and here is why (via the commenter's empirical evidence)."

If memory serves, when I and my peers were 23, slights to our music, or worldview, were deemed very personal; such things meant the world to us. Perhaps if you look at the comment with that background in mind. . . .

    ReplyDelete
  16. @10:47 "What is off-putting is the pontificating from the pulpit of certainty."

    Bingo!!

Gordo actually does a good job of mentioning that other viewpoints do have some validity. Corby and Danny do not! They are also hypocritical in that they will preach against something in one segment and then do that or worse themselves in another.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Welp, I'm gonna jump in with my nearly-30-opinion too. (btw, I've been a listener since I was 18ish)

The BSCTT this morning was a good example of why the Musers do not rub people the wrong way like THL do. Bro-country came around and they gave a very honest take about it, said it was cheesy, hokey, but the music MIGHT be ok. THL in that same situation (Queue Gordo's Danny impression) would say it's stoopy, sucks, go away. There's just no depth in that. Compound it with the opinion that I feel like THL says that about EVERYTHING. What you get is a radio show with no substance. THL cannot have the depth of conversation like The Musers, BADD, or even Norm.

BADD Radio has its issues but that may be because there are too many voices. I like Jake and TC but there's not enough room with Dan, Bob and Donovan at the same time. And WTDS has become an audio wasteland there are a bajillion voices, drops, etc it seems.

To me the Norm show has picked up his game, but I think that's mainly because of Sirois. The 11am hour seems to feature more Sirois with Norm talking less about sports, and TC throws in good points here and there.

All that being said, I will never leave the little Ticket for the Fan.

(All of these points are my opinion, please don't hit me)

  18. Today was a textbook example of BaDD radio bog down. Tom Grieve Show, Garrett Presser, Chad Morris Interview, Justus interview.

No way a show can get any traction with those anchors around their necks.

  19. My quick hits:

-- I actually know a close relative of one of the major station hosts who once told me "A young Christian man like yourself should not listen to The Ticket." I laughed it off at the time, and the person channeled Lee Corso ("and I'm not kidding"), but THL and its "I'm so tolerant I'm intolerant of intolerance - and orthodox Christianity is intolerant" shtick is grinding my gears...

-- I recall an IJB with Bob as the guest where he discussed how one of his relatives thought The Ticket was not a good place for a Christian to work. Corby and Danny's "if you're not a Progressive your bad" garbage must be somewhat testing for him, and to a lesser extent George and Donnie. I don't mind social commentary, but know what you are talking about and know that people much smarter than all of us have well-reasoned but opposing viewpoints on virtually every conceivable topic.

-- Speaking of IJB, they and I could not be more polar opposite on religion and most hot-button political issues and yet they (mostly) are respectful of differing points of view. Corby and Danny should take note.

-- I see the lack of intelligent college football talk as one of The Ticket's biggest holes. Think about it - Corby is the only host that went to a Power 5 school, and the only one who knows much about it. He's also the most polarizing host, as well as being the one who puts in the least amount of work of ANY host. I don't want The Ticket to go all Paul Finebaum, but come on people -- Aggies in the brutal SEC West, UT rebuilding PLUS TCU and Baylor and y'all can't scrape more that two decent hours together...? I know the Cowboys are king, but by Tuesday at noon, all of the talking points are stale...

-- I moved away a few years back, so I am a streamer -- The local sports talk here is horrific, so if I quit The Ticket, it would be NPR and podcasts for me to, at, and from work. Because I moved away, I have become someone who basically only follows DFW sports to make The Ticket relevant -- I would not switch to The Fan primarily because I am a sports polygamist (and my favorite sport is soccer, so...). My irritation with The Ticket is probably not as pronounced as it would be if I still lived in the 817, but I don't like where this is going... When Mike leaves, afternoon drive is going to be a problem, especially since it appears that The Shake Joint is going to take over for Norm, and Corby and Psilocybin Sea Cow is not a workable combo platter. BAD Rabio, as much as I am an unapologetic BAD Radio P1, probably is a bit "niche-y" for p.m. drive. Weird to think that if BAD had jumped ship to The Fan, I might not have ever listened to standalone THL again (WTDS is my favorite segment of the day). Weird also to think that while I think Greggo is completely over-rated, and that The Ticket does not miss him now, they may find that they miss him once Norm and Mike ride off...

    Rant over...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think Corby gave a good example today of what we've been talking about. Reading the story about how Jared from Subway has pled guilty to some bad porno stuff, Corby declares that he has always known that there was something up with Jared. So how many times over the years has there been a mention of Jared on the THL? I have never heard Corby make a remark like that. But he's always known . . .

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Anon459 you mention wanting more College Football talk. Would you rather just Big 12/TAMU or CFB as a whole?

    ReplyDelete
  22. @4:59 I feel you, as a Christian that listens to the Ticket, I bought my ticket, I know what I am getting into. Like I have said before, I don't expect a sermon or even for everyone to agree with my faith/beliefs, but I would like to hear at least a little respect out of the Hardline's junior members (Mike typically does not bash religion for the most part). They can say whatever they want to, but I would imagine a large part of their audience at least claims to be Christian. The bashing is just not necessary. It honestly wouldn't bother me so much if they were not so hypocritical, but alas I am beating a dead horse.

  23. I left a comment last night but it never showed up:

I'm a fan of the T-O-M It's the Tom Grieve Show. I always find it enjoyable. I also thought BaD's Justus interview was outstanding. The kid had a really interesting story to tell and Jake and the others did a great job with it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Justin:

I would say you could do a couple overall CFB segments, a couple each of Big XII and SEC, and then UT, TAMU, Baylor and TCU segments. I am an Aggie fan, so I am biased, but assuming (a BIG assumption) that TAMU has 1 or 0 losses going into the Alabama game, and Alabama is undefeated, that should be worthy of a couple segments at least (especially during a Cowboy bye week). Similarly, UT/OU should be a couple of segments, and not just by Corby with Coach Switzer or Junes. I know that the Cowboys are the straw that stirs the drink, but man, after 4 Cowboy segments on The Musers, 4 on Norm... Bob and Jake do bring a unique perspective - I feel like they are the only two "major" guys on The Ticket that don't just bring a bag of generic, but after their takes, there is nothing left... I know that not everyone is an all day / every day P1 desk jockey like me, but the last thing I need to hear at 5:15 is Mike and Corby beating the Cowboy dead horse and repeating all of the same generic stuff that was mentioned 11 hours earlier...

The upcoming college football season would also be a great time to use the Thursday night slot -- you could really use Jake and TC to geek out on offensive schemes and get Corby plus 1 for the generic stuff. Bob is my leader, and he is somewhat overextended as it is, but I would love for him to get engaged in college football. I can't remember the guy you use periodically that kicked for USC (Newberry?), but I really like him -- I would definitely tune in to the Newberry, Jake and TC show on Thursday night. Again, I don't want Paul Finebaum or Mark May ridiculousness, but there is really good CFB talk to be had.

Thanks for coming on here... It's cool that you did.

    Arky P1:

I too bought my ticket... and yes, like you I know that strictly speaking, listening to THL and Gordo is not exactly filling my mind with Christian compatible thoughts... I just am tired of getting pooped on by Danny and Corby for believing what I believe. That is both genius and curse of The Ticket... We feel like these guys are our friends, but my friends, even my agnostic / atheist friends, don't insult my beliefs like Corby and Danny do, or make these broad, sweeping general statements about what everyone should think or that we're all a bunch of ignorant, uneducated rubes. Again, I know it is easy to pick on Corby, but some of the stuff he says is just... Alright, I'll stop here.

  25. You do know that Corby is an adult convert to Catholicism, yes? And Danny has said on a few occasions that he believes in a higher power.

  27. @Anon who thinks that Thursday nights is good for a NCAA show.

Problem #1: The Stars play twenty (20) regular season games on Thursday nights. Two of their pre-season games are also on Thursday nights. You would only have broadcasts from now until Sept. 17. Then the next open Thursday night would be November 11. There is no inventory.

Problem #2: On Thursday nights, people have already listened last last week recap and upcoming week preview to The Solid Verbal, The Audible (FOX Sports), Championship Drive (ESPN) and/or whichever team or conference podcast they have listened to for years. Plus, they are also watching a Thursday night game: FS1, ESPN, CBSSN or even NFL on CBS

  28. Shooting straight from the hip, my guess is that Corby's conversion was to appease his wife. Was it a pre-emptive strike to get kids in a private school? I don't know.

Here's another well-crafted hunch. Corby and Danny HSO's are influenced by buddies on social media and their on-air rants are designed to appeal to them.

As has been pointed out before, Mike probably steers clear of these discussions so as to not alienate possible clients for his band.

    1. I don't mind the political rants from Corby and Danny as much as I'm annoyed about how uninformed they are before making the rant. I remember when the issue of the guy paying to hunt the endangered rhino came up Danny and Corby were very against (which is a fine position to be against hunting) but failing to mention that the rhino was considered a danger to other rhinos and had in fact kille other rhinos is leaving out a huge chunk of the story that might make people view the issue in a different light.

It often seems that Corby is reading the stories for his segments for the first time as he is doing the segment rather than preparing before the show.

  29. Scatter shooting on comments here.

I would absolutely love a Dallas Observer show. Give me Gordo and Wilonsky with appearances by Schultze and Crain.

I could tolerate political talk if any of the hosts were actually knowledgeable about said politics. Little to no facts are known outside of the story they are currently reading and just end up with a "you know what man, here's what I think." Even on the local level I would love if anyone up there actually knew about the Trinity Toll Road project our streets and why they are all in terrible condition and to not think it's an "honor" to have Rawlings call in during the segment.

Years ago I had an email exchange with Cat about Cowboys press conferences. This is back when they would cut into THL which I was at the time a diehard P1. His stance was that The Ticket was a sports station that would carry sports press conferences especially covering the Cowboys. I wanted numbers showing that people were actually listening to them which of course he would not or could not provide. To sum it up, The Ticket is always going to carry press conferences no matter how many people punch out because... Cat.

And? Corby and Danny mock religious belief all of the time, so if what you say is true, let's just say that their personal beliefs do not permeate the presentation when the relevant topics come up.

  31. 12:13 - totally forgot about Stars games, which is inexcusable because I like the Stars. You're right about the podcasts as well... I'm not really sure what the answer is, and I realize that playing amateur program director is like pretending to be an offensive coordinator or a member of a legislative budget committee -- there are scarce resources to be allocated and no one is going to be happy about how it turns out. I just think all Cowboys all the time gets stale... But as my late father pointed out to me when I would complain about the various CSI shows, talking head shows on CNN where everyone just yells at each other and the like, "Son, they aren't aiming for you... they're aiming for the lowest common denominator..." Hence Jason "Process" Garrett pressers, and the same 3-5 football points being made all day from Monday @ 5:30 till about Thursday morning.

1:25 PM -- "I could tolerate political talk if any of the hosts were actually knowledgeable about said politics. Little to no facts are known outside of the story they are currently reading and just end up with a 'you know what man, here's what I think.'"

Truth... Does anyone but Gordo and Jake read anything outside of sports and music? I mean, that's cool if they don't, but just like I don't comment on the art of French cooking, they should stay away from political talk. I dunno -- maybe because I am a bit of a political news junkie I am too critical, but just don't if you can't. But I guess humility and knowing your limitations are somewhat in conflict with being a big time radio host.

  35. I need to clarify that as much as I bag on the guy, I really do like Corby. When he is not preaching or Bro'ing it up, he is a good listen. I have always enjoyed Mike. Much like my favorite football team, I am harder on them than anyone else because I love them so much. To echo 8:16's comments, there is no doubt THL is better than the alternative.

  36. BAD radio is failing for a plethora of reasons with the 1st being Bob & Dan are by far the 2 "uncoolest" personalities at the station yet they think the p1 wants to listen to them make fun of others in the media & give reviews of terrible movies.

It doesn't help that they have a fan (former intern Jake) as their producer. No one to offer a differing opinion. Their ratings have fallen since his promotion/Gribble's departure.
It also doesn't help that Bob has an unintelligible clone doing tickers and having free range to chime in whenever he feels like it.
TC having an on air job is the equivalent of Uber hiring a blind person.

Bottomline is IJB + BAD = last place. Won't be too long before Screaming Steve Dennis & Monotone Mark Friedman surpass them

  37. If the LeBatard replacing Cowherd rumor is true, I could see trouble for 10-12 on The Ticket. His show is actually listenable... (There's no way that's a word...)

  38. Sorry, I find Corby's golf game show to be the ultimate conceit.

  39. "And? Corby and Danny mock religious belief all of the time, so if what you say is true, let's just say that their personal beliefs do not permeate the presentation when the relevant topics come up.

    August 19, 2015 at 3:22 PM"

Once again, a comment that's too clever by half. I was adding those background facts into the dialogue in order that we MIGHT better understand the situation. Nothing more, nothing less. But you read some sort of "these guys are X so they can't be saying or actually believing Y" into it, and then went all "logical" and "gotcha" on me.

    Dang.

  41. CONFIDENTIAL TO SHAGGY: Watch the shots, Brother Shaggy.

I've let a few shots in on these comments but came pretty close to jettisoning some pretty substantial ones. Just make your points, OKs everyone?

  42. A SHOT?! I'll try again I guess.

Bob and Dan are certainly "cooler" than Craig and George. Not to mention Norm, it should go without saying.

Jake quite often offers a differing opinion. He and Bob have sparred quite often on-air and on twitter on a wide range of issues, including the Mavs/Cuban/Tyson, as well as all things Chip Kelly.

  43. OH SO MUCH THIS! Anonymous 8/19 9:50 nailed it:

"...I just am tired of getting pooped on by Danny and Corby for believing what I believe. That is both genius and curse of The Ticket... We feel like these guys are our friends, but my friends, even my agnostic / atheist friends, don't insult my beliefs like Corby and Danny do, or make these broad, sweeping general statements about what everyone should think or that we're all a bunch of ignorant, uneducated rubes."

    +1, 17 thumbs up and 1 75% up. 2 snaps in a Z formation.

    1. It's okay to make fun of adults who believe in fairy tales.

      Delete
  44. Chris K, can you be more specific about these fairy tales? I.e., state them, please. It would also be helpful if you listed some of your beliefs. That way we can see if it's OK to make fun of you. I have a feeling, per your criteria, we will indeed be able to do so. It's a funny and interesting phenomena to analyze...those beliefs to which we assent.

I hope you allow this comment through, Pman. Because if Chris K is allowed to imply (to insult others, actually) that, theism (and I'll bet the house he means Christianity) is a fairy tale, then I would think my question to Chris K is reasonable, commensurate in tone, and merited.

  45. Shaggy, you're right to a degree, but it's also that Jake's point usually come across in a fake contrarian way that taints it. Like he went to the Richie Whitt school of cocky frosted hair broadcasting. I actually miss Dan this week because, as much as he can annoy me (how's he above not coughing on air?), he somehow keeps the arrogance of all in check.

I submit that BaD has an audio problem. As in, too damn much. I don't want audio! The "hey, let's repeatedly listen to something from TV that amuses us" bit doesn't carry the same appeal to the listener, especially at the frequency they rely on it. Hardline overuses audio too. To me, it grinds the shows to a halt 75% of the time. Sometimes it can be rather fun. Breaking down Jim Knox garbage isn't.

Perhaps it coincidental that the show with the best ratings is the one with the quietest producer and the least reliance on outside content. Perhaps not.

  46. I attempted to listen to BaDD Radio on TuneIn today during the lunch hour, but the new NTTA ad cut in literally every 30 seconds. I was enjoying their talk about Dez and other NFL stuff, but I wanted to throw my phone every time it abruptly cut to the ad. After about 30 minutes of this crap I simply could not take it anymore, I had to punch out and listen to some local Denver radio, otherwise I was going to do something really violent to my phone and it wasn't my phone's fault.

I mean seriously Cumulus, WTF IS IT WITH THIS ISSUE? Are you trying to troll your streaming listeners or something? Can you think of anything more frustrating, to someone who is actively trying to listen to your radio programs, than to have advertisements constantly cutting into the show's content? I cannot think of anything. It's not like this is a new problem, it's been happening for probably a year now (although not usually as frequently as every 30 seconds), but Cumulus obviously doesn't give a crap about fixing it, which means it doesn't give a crap about The Ticket's streaming audience. I have never experienced this on any other radio station's stream. It's like they all invested in decent streaming technology years ago or something whereas Cumulus tried to do it on the cheap, and now Cumulus doesn't want to make a capital investment to fix the issues. Who knows.

Sorry for the off-topic rant but this is one incredibly fed-up Confessor.

  48. Pman, when did you start letting through personal attacks again (like Chris K's)?

  49. Colorado--are you sure it's not a connection issue on your side? I streamed all 3 hours of BaD plus WTDS with no problems. OoTunes on an iPhone

  50. I was having streaming issues today as well. Not as frequent as every 30 seconds, but at least a few times an hour. It was doing this a few weeks back but had been running great recently up until today. Hope it doesn't continue.
