Back . . .

.  .  .  and enjoying the heck out of The Shake Joint with Sean and Folly this morning.

Mrs. P and I were in Maine last week.  We were dining at a restaurant one night when I glanced at the front door, and who should come (quite literally) rolling in, but President Bush and Barbara -- he in wheelchair and neckbrace, she with a walker and trademark pearls.  They passed by our table and sat about 20 feet from us, and the Secret Service guys were all sitting at the next table.  They dined with another couple and seemed to have a fine time.

I did overhear the President say that he'd like to hear more Dave Lane now that the Orphanage is hors de combat, but in general he thought the Ticket weekend changes were working pretty well.

Cue Vivaldi.

Thanks to the Confessor for some solid offerings this past week.

  1. I guess I need to send a note to President Bush telling him that I like Davey and was a Rant/Orphanage P1 to the end. But after his CdS segment on the upcoming Trump rally, President Bush needs to be reminded that the last thing the Ticket needs right now is a voice that dedicates a segment to criticizing and ridiculing conservatives. They've already got enough people doing that.

  2. Cowboys' season is over. This is going to make it rather interesting for our local sports talk radio scene. The Dez injury COMBINED with the Romo injury will kill any sort of "see, they're front runners who can't deliver" angle--if they imploded. At this point, no matter what happens, all is given a pass. And it should be as such, we're talking about catastrophic injuries. But this makes for tough times where our local stations are concerned. In a sense, at least for the DFW area, the NFL might as well call the season off. If, by some miracle, the Cowboys do well, well, it's nothing but a feel-good story about a team playing with house money and therefore there are no criticisms and all three stations will talk about the same exact thing, in the same exact way; there will be no "different" angle that could set one or another apart from the other(s). All of which means that, ceteris paribus, regardless of how this neutered Cowboys team does, there will be no advantage for any station; meaning, for the next 5 months, the ratings ought to reflect the actual popularity and/or quality of the shows for each station.

Rhyner was pretty darn good on today's pre. No, he can't break a game down or go into stats, but he always gets to the heart of the matter by way of a spot on barstool psychological analysis of "how the thing works." As Coach Switzer would say, "I like 'at."

Newbury is fantastic on pre. But good gosh a'mighty, it sounds like he's fighting off a burp or the hiccups every time he speaks.

I like the brutal honesty of Norm's post work. I think Donnie has a long long way to go. He's gotten better over the years in all facets of his sports talk game, but he's been stuck for quite some time now on making one, maybe two, points and being unable to move past them. He applies them to every aspect of the analysis. He might restate or reframe the thought in many guises, but make no mistake, it's the same point. And no offense and I mean no offense as I pre say this, but the constant chuckle before making any statement has got to be jettisoned. It's the cocky sniff (see Sean Bass) in a different form. I think Donnie has a bright future in the biz, but he's got to up his game. Maybe the new show will help him do just that. I hope so.

THL gets a lot of grief here. It also gets a lot of grief on the reddit site. As it should. The so-called flagship show is the least prepared, most fat cat, mail it in because you'll love us for it anyway, show on the station. Funny thing is, the attitude they have is the EXACT attitude Rocco Pendola had when he came aboard; the same attitude Rhyner despised so much that he spearheaded the "get this douche outta here" campaign--that Rocco was only too happy to play into (I didn't say Rhyner was wrong in his thoughts/actions, by the way). But yeah, THL has become The Rocco Pendola Show. I don't see them ever stepping it up, alas. And, alas, there is nothing on the horizon that can take over their spot. Personally I would love to see BaD in pm drive. But the ratings, and for a sustained period, scream "not pm or am drive time material." The JV? No way. If you sent Jake and Co. away to, oh, say, a smaller market Cumulus station for a few years, like Birmingham, AL., to "get professional" and stop with the "oh hell yeahs" and other schmucky know it all behavior, and learn how to deal with the GENERAL public and not only the peer group they prefer to be thought "cool" by, then you might have a successor with a shot. Oh wait. MaSS. Remember those boys? If not, you ought to refresh your memory. Just saying. NOT saying they are soon to take over THL's spot. But I am saying that you should not, at all, be surprised if they return sooner rather than later to the metroplex. And when they do, do not be surprised if they eventually become a certain Confessor-centric station's pm drive show.

  3. @3:28 I don't think the Cowboys season is over, simply because the cavalry is coming, and I think 8-8 will win the division and the Boys should be full strength once the tournament starts. I don't think the Dez or Romo injury will last 12 weeks like some have said, unless their bones are made out of wet crackers or something.

    ReplyDelete
  4. If I can be optimistic about the Cowboys chances for a moment. Weeden is a former 1st round pick so he has some talent, he has had time to learn this system carrying a clip board and we don't need him to go 36-40 for 350 yards to win. If he can simply be productive say 20-28 for 250 and 1 or few turnovers a game this team can tread water and win a few games until Romo and Dez get back.

    ReplyDelete
  5. "If he can simply be productive say 20-28 for 250"

You realize that would be a 95.8 passer rating (assuming 1TD, 1INT). That would make him a top 10 QB.

  6. I don't mind a little Cowboys talk. I offer it myself from time to time. If possible, tie it in to The Ticket, as a couple have above. There are many outlets for Cowboys commentary but the True Confessor has limited choices. I'm not going to boot Cowboys comments just for that reason (i.e., they may still get booted for incivility, etc.) for the time being, but if possible let's keep on topic.

Leaving town again for a few days, see ya.

  7. I've never been a huge fan of THL compared to the other shows on weekday Ticket but I've rarely taken the time to rip them on this site or reddit. However, I'm starting to find myself becoming more irritated by the show. It seems like 3.5 hours of three angry, pompous, old men. Every segment is spent crapping on something whether it's a TV show, sports team or local fans. It's amazing to me how much contempt they seem to have for not only the P1s but the fans of local teams here.

Danny has always been the worst of the three in this regard but I swear Corby and Ryhnes are every bit as mean spirited and contemptuous as him now.

Finally, I agree with everyone who has ever accused THL of no show prep and superficial sports analysis. That's always been the case but its gotten worse over the last year.

All of this has led me to reduce my THL listening by at least half. At some point I may just turn it off as soon as WTDS ends.

  8. How about this for a Cowboys-Little Ticket tie in: Weeden=TC.

  9. Just some thoughts from listening to today's mid-day shows:
    1) Donnie's segment on his sponsor-paid trip to Kentucky seemed strange. I understand they are a big advertiser on the Little Ticket, and they are a big sponsor of the D&M Open, but it was still "strange."

    2) I am probably reading too much into it, but did anyone else catch that when Donnie signed the barrels, he signed one "Boom" and the other "In The House"? Nothing about/with Norm, but Mike. It was a bit awkward, to say the least. Though it could easily be explained away as Donnie not thinking Norm was into that type of alcohol (and somewhat alluded to by Donnie), I will double down on my original though that this pairing of Norm and Donnie has more to do with the future replacement of Boom, In The House when Norm does retire.

    3) While either party may not have verbalized it yet, it seems as if BAD and Tom Green know this is the last year of the Tom Green Show. They all seem to be going through the motions of it. Usually goes: Golf opener. Open ended question by BAD given to Tom so he can take as long as he likes answering it by explaining the whole season of each individual player, short sports followup by BAD, then some TV talk, then dismount.

  10. How's this for positive?

"It smelled like you had had diarrhea for lunch." (Danny on Corby's room-clearing flatulence yesterday)

Possibly the funniest thing Danny's ever said.

  11. @brad Gilbert, in reference to your Tom grieve show comment, that's pretty much been the set up since day one. Golf/travel talk, open ended rangers question, then end with something personal.

  12. I didn't hear Donovan's segment on his trip, but I get a little uncomfortable hearing about a host's adventure on a sponsor's dime. I didn't like it the other day when Mike and Corby talked about their evening at Trinity Grove and that somebody else picked up the tab.

Part of me wants to say that I don't want to hear about that because it gets a little too close to plugola, but on the other hand I wouldn't want to hear about it from another source and assume they were hiding it from the audience (aka non-disclosure).

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think it's a bit worse. There was one ep a few weeks ago where Dan was just kind of being funny by asking a really open ended question like, "Tom, explain this season", and Tom actually went on a 7-8 monologue summarizing the season up to that point, completely uninterrupted.

I enjoy the Tom Grieve show, but I do wonder if it will be back next year, or whether Tom himself will be back next year on broadcasts. Not sure how much more his schedule has been pared back this year compared to last year, but I always felt like it was odd that he was reducing his workload the way he has.

  14. You don't need an 8:40 bit when you have Dwaine Carraway on the show. That man is a caricature. It used to make me kind of uncomfortable when they had him on - like he didn't get the joke or they were taking advantage of him or something - but now it seems like he's totally aware that he's a punch line and is okay with it and is using them as much as they're using him. I give the Musers credit for not actively making him look like a fool (except Gordo, but that's his raison d'etre), which is something they could easily do. It's a weird relationship they have, but it seems like they honestly like the guy and he honestly likes them.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agreed about dwayne carraway. He's a great sport and seems like a fun loving dude. No matter what your politics are, he seems to genuinely care about his constituents and improving things in an area that could really use it.

  16. This site used to be so much better in the good ole days. It seems like most of the contributors are mailing it in and not researching their positions - case in point the total misrepresentation of TC and Jake's salary IJB. If only this site could return to the glory years of MTC when people made good comments and had fun conjecture and discussions on Ticket subjects. If this keeps up I am going to turn my dial to the Fan discussion board. IMO this current crop of JV are talented and add perspective. I think 20-something Junior, George, et al would have had similar growing pains. Give the boys a chance. Regards, P1 N

  17. I really appreciate the way the Ticket guys give back. From Jub Jam to the Dunham and Miller Open to Drop your Pants, and of course the Norm-a-thon. I wonder if Donnie will be part of the Norm-a-thon this year?

Refresh my memory, does the Hardline have a signature event that raises money for charity. I tried to remember if they did and I can't think of one.

  19. I have a feeling we're going to get more of Caraway's in-segment promo spots given his run for JWP's Dist. 3 Commissioner spot. I guess those promos worked fairly well for his plastic bag campaign. At least until local business saw they were losing money. What's entertaining from time to time can get old VERY quickly.

  25. I had a chance to listen to a fair chunk of BaD Radio yesterday. Like my last listen, I thought it seemed more focused and moved along more smartly than it used to. Liked the presentation. Very limited contributions from Jake and T.C. (although I was never one who found them overly-intrusive).

I enjoyed the "BaD P1" contest -- I wasn't enough of a BaD P1 even to understand the questions, but it was a neat concept.

    ReplyDelete
  26. One of the funnier bits going (IMHO) is the Musers passive-aggressive pokes at BaD, highlighting their on-air fights. BaD is currently discussing their latest win on EBW, where they were nominated for not one, but two EB's this week. It's not so funny that the Musers do it every so often, it's that it seems to really get under Dan's skin. As Dan said, "We all think Bob hate's Dan's moron dog."

    A couple of quick hits:

    Topic 1:

I'm breaking my own rule and complaining about Corby for a minute. During their Ryan Adams/Taylor Swift he came off like how this forum always complains about him, uninformed and in his own bubble of a world.

    1. Making a cover album has been done countless times, this is hardly the first. This would take one second to research, Beck has a whole series of cover albums he has done, which made pretty big news. (The Velvet Underground and Nico is pretty great BTW.)

    2. He completely missed the whole reason Ryan Adams made the cover album, which was to show that despite the POP production of the album, they are lyrically well written, melodic songs. Danny made this note, but Corby instantly moved on by saying she doesn't write her own music, which is incorrect. She at least co-wrote every song on the album. (BTW, I am in no way a Taylor Swift fan, but i'm willing to give her credit for what she does.)

    3. Even though this segment was Corby's idea to compare the songs, he states that he couldn't even bring himself to listen to the Taylor Swift songs because they hurt his brain. I found this to be completely childish, and again showing he is not willing to even listen to a song to do show prep.

    Topic 2:

As a BAD Radio P1, the E-Break this week made me realize what has been missing from the show for the past year, and that is Bob and Dan fighting, and more specifically Dan going off on someone.

It's always really awkward, and even though you can kind of tell it's Dan "playing radio", it's almost as if there has been a directive to him to not wind up on anyone on air.

I can think of several times he has started to wind up over the past year, but he instantly calms himself down and makes a joke. As far as I can remember, it was the "ESPN phone chick" and the "intern not getting his rice", which both here a little over a year ago. I can't think of any big blow ups since then.

Even with this fight, it was really Bob going off on Dan, and him merely throwing some jabs back, rather than Dan really going after him.

    Anyone disagree?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Warren, why do you waste your time listening to Corby? [yes Plains, I'll keep it clean] I did catch some of Fridays WTDS. Rhyner was talking about some local person, associated with the Starck Club, passing; who was he talking about? Also, caught some of the Sat morning youngsters today and found them somewhat entertaining. May be time for a weekday drive shake up.

  31. Interesting Orphanage/Rant type moment on TSJ this morning. In a segment where they were making fun of the pope visit to the US Jake dropped this Rant type doozy - "they should bring the pope to Dallas and put him in a convertible in Dealy Plaza, just to see, just to see"

    Norm would be pissed.

    Warren MD

Right there with you. When I heard Taylor Swift/Ryan Adams I knew there would be absolutely nothing of interest for me for the next approximate 20 minutes. I know they exist. But much like Jimmy Choo, neither will I purchase their product nor will I go in search of where to find them. Bringing information to me about them only serves to make me tune you out.

If I wanted to listen to Entertainment Tonight on my radio I suppose I could find it.
Is this because they are trying to find out how to get more of the female listener? Because Corby demands the time and Mike acquiesces? I have come to despise E news.

Oh and whoever wrote in last week during WTDS to tell Corby to "read the story first" kudos to you sir.

Sorry Pman. I can find some positives to talk about the littlest of Tickets, but Corby is becoming one of the biggest reasons why I tune out. I can handle it when he talks sports but the entertainment segments are a beating of the highest order and they seem to be longer, more frequent and in the heart of drive time.

Here's a positive. Norm's show has kept my ears listening longer than it used to. Donnie has been a good addition imo.

  33. I've become a part of the growing group of listeners whose listening day ends when the WTDS bomb explodes, signifying the end of the segment. THL sucks, period. There, I said it. I meant it. Rhyner used to be my leader. I used to think it would be the coolest thing in the world to set down with him over a few Deep Eddy's. Not anymore. He's become a (or maybe he always was, but used to have the self-awareness to know it and to do his best to hide it) shallow man desperately trying to turn back the clock. My 18 year old nephew has deeper and more varied interests than this guy. Danny really is the "Big Dumb Danny" character he used to be portrayed as by THL and The Musers back in the day. Corby. What can be said that hasn't been already? He's the epitome of what's wrong with the show. Bottom line: There needs to be a shakeup. It's not going to happen, I know. But there needs to be. I'm done with THL, permanently.

I heard this morning's TSJ. My impression was that Jake was still drunk from the night before, or at least buzzy. He was fairly out of control with some of his observations, wishes, and "takes." He was offensive, frankly, in many ways. On several occasions, Sean was audibly nervous with Jake's brashness. I didn't blame for being as such. Drunk/buzzed/sober, Jake has the propensity to get full of himself. I want to be a fan, I've tried to be a fan, but he makes it very difficult. I fear that Jake will be Jake's cause of ultimate failure in this industry. He's great on the sports front. And that's it. Being great on the sports front can get you far in the sports business (ask Sturm). Unfortunately, his ego won't allow for him to remain on the sports page. Too bad.

Warren, I imagine after about 20 seconds of reflection in the aftermath of both incidents (phone and rice), Dan probably cringed at himself and vowed to make a concerted effort to not behave like that ever again. Because it's that very type of behavior in others that Dan so loves to attack. Hypocrisy and all that. That's my guess.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I dig Jake's sports talk too. Right there with 301 about the non sports stuff. He can sound mean spirited and even venomous. I don't get it. I guess it's a Twitter snark shock jock thing. When he tries to be Gordo he falls flat. Gordo might say shocking and offensive stuff, but even during the Rant days it was never spiteful or vicious. Inappropriate and insensitive for sure, but never with a malicious tone. Jake might not be trying to come off like that or intending to, and I'm not saying he's trying to, but sometimes he does. If he really did say that about the pope, that's just stupid and not cool. What your views on religion or Catholicism has nada to fo with it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Must say, the whole criticism of Mike trying to "turn back the clock" and that being a bad thing is strange to me. Sure, he's a divorced man in his 60's, with a daughter living out of state and a job that affords him more free time than the average 9-5 stiff. What's wrong with being in bands, playing music he loves, having a great time doing so? Who says only 20 somethings can go out on weekends and have a few too many drinks, spending time with friends, enjoying himself? At times a lot of the people commenting here sound plain jealous that they themselves are not in a position to do so, so they write that type of behaviour off as "pathetic"... looks more to me like a guy spending his twilight years doing exactly what he wants to do, and I admire it greatly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 920, the problem isn't that Mike is living a certain kind of life. I agree with you on that point. The problem is that he seems sometimes to be living it at the expense of doing a good job at his still full-time job. One of the reasons that his job "affords him more free time than the average 9-5 stiff" is that he doesn't spend enough off-air time preparing to perform his on-air duties, and in recent years it has shown as he has ceded on-air time to another performer who also seems not to do much preparation. I don't think most of us have any problem with hobby bands and bar-hopping. We'd just like to see more respect for the gig that got him where he is.

  37. Ok P1 N, I'll bite. Since you're saying certain items are misrepresented here, where is your research? Or is it that you disagree with a large number of confessors and don't like different opinions?

The site, just like the station, has evolved over the years. Many of us long for the "good ole days" as you put it, but unfortunately that's not realistic at this point. I will never give another station a shot, unlike a lot of "P1's" apparently, but I'm slowly fading from P1 status. Apathy and disinterest seem like two things that can really damage a station, and it appears from comments and ratings they're becoming more prevalent. There is still some great things about the Little Ticket, and because of those things I still tune in a fair amount. You cant entirely quit a relationship you've invested 20 years in, no matter what divorce attorneys tell you. But the feeling of "what did I miss?" if I can't listen is no longer there. I appreciate the current day Ticket for what it is, and almost feel it's unfair to compare it to the "good ole days" Ticket. I know this sentiment has been echoed here before.

301 here. Plainsman has the gist of what I meant by saying Rhyner is trying to turn back the clock. But there's a little more to it. Before I explain, I do have to categorically deny, at least as far as I go, any envious motive. It's the very fact that Rhyner is a musician, knows and lived the history of the DFW music and nightlife and sports scenes that once made me want to have many Deep Eddy's with him. Again, what Plainsman says is part of what I mean. I'm not the 1st or the 20th to say this, but IMHO if you want to trace his disinterest and half-assedness to its origins, look no further than the inception of Petty Theft. What the motivation behind PT was, I haven't a clue. Yet it was from that time on that his on air chops began to slide. At times we get engaged Rhyner and it's very good to greatness. Sadly engaged Rhyner usually lasts a mere segment, sometimes an entire show, and once in a great while a few shows to a week or so. Soon though, engaged Rhyner reverts back to his now norm. I do wonder if he gets edicts from Cat every now and again to act like he likes his job, which in turn gives us the temporarily focused Rhyner.

The other part of my meaning is that it's tough to take seriously a 60 something, a senior citizen, who sounds like a kid more often than not. I didn't say youthful, I said a kid. Norm is youthful. He has zest and zeal and energy, a youthful passion for all he does. Like it or him, or not, there's no denying it. Rhyner on the other hand can often come off damn near Dylan the Argumentative Teen-esque. Many of the things he brings to the table during the "Rhyner Segments" (segment, really) are things my 18 yr old nephew and his buddies are into or were into a few yrs back. The way he talks about things is like a teenager or college kid. At his age and stage in life, and with all of his life experience, it's plain weird and for me at least, off putting and makes THL that much worse. And I wished it wasn't so. It used to not be this way with him. Or like I said in my 1st comment, he was always like this but was more grounded and self aware and hid it behind a mask of "smart silence."

I rambled on enough, sorry. Just wanted to let you know that jealousy isn't a factor. Though I will say that hell yes I'd love to have his life. I think most all of us would.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Reading some of these comments about Rhyner got me thinking. He's become a male on-air version of the 50yo divorced mom who got a boob-job and wears a Brett-Michaels-stripper-hat to the neighborhood pool. I've noticed it creeping in to his job performance too. I think Greggo unwittingly forced Rhyner to behave more age-appropriate.

  40. I guess I just don't get it. You guys claim his segment(s) have become riddled with immature subject matter, but I listen to thl most days of the week and 95% of the time Mike's mind is usually about an OLD sports story, an OLD band/artist/album, something to do with the Dallas area in reference to the 60's/70's/80's, etc... It's still a stop down segment for me because almost every time, and this is literally the only segment of the day on any show I can say this about, I come away having learned something new.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree that Mike's Mind is usually of interest, but we are the same age and are both grew up in the Dallas area. It's one of the few segments of the show that Corby has trouble hijacking.

Something I think we can add to the list of things going wrong with THL is how Danny has become Robin Quivers to Corby's Howard Stern. There was a time Danny would occasionally bust Superlative Corby's balls, but not anymore. As if he were seeking Corby's approval.

So the next time Danny accuses people of being weak minded, he might want to check himself.

  42. @6:21...you're right on man! This is what I believe goes on in the behind scenes meetings..
Cat: Look guys, we gotta make this work. I know Corby is a beating, but he's the only one willing to do the grunt work to get 4 hours of segments. Danny, look..quit being so snarky with him...let's just keep this gravy train, as shaky as it is, on track.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I remember years ago, Danny telling Corby that the listener just could not relate to him. That was so true, and what's more, we don't want to! I think Corby is smart enough to realize his lucrative options are limited after THL, therefore, he's more than willing to bust ass to try to keep something afloat. Trouble is, there is not much to it. Never has been. And I think Rhynes just has a hard time responding to a lot of what is just "TMZ-Corby" Look how negative Corby comments are relegated along the same level as all these new-hires...and Corby is a 16 year veteran!
..As far as comments on Rhyners band...no problem at all with that! Good luck to the guy and keep on rocking! I think it's comments from people just frustrated with the show. lol...Plains..I hope you don't delele this. I'm just responding to some of the comments that touched a nerve with me.

Yes, he's not funny brash, not funny offensive, not funny period. And don't worry, SeaBass knows how people feel about him and knows that Jake needs to reel it in. There was one morning where Jake was going off about how they all settled (in terms of women) and Sean disagreed and Jake said 'You settled'. IF I was Sean, I would have thrown it to commercial break and had an off-mic conversation real quick.

  44. @731 - Jake owes somebody (well, a couple of somebodies) an apology if your account of that segment is accurate!

  45. Anon @ 7:31 - well said. Glad to hear someone tell it like it is with this clown. He has NOTHING. I have completely stopped listening to 12-3 thanks to him & his IJB buddy.

Don't get all The Hardline hate. Still find those boys very entertaining.

  46. Do you have audio of Jake saying they all "settled"? Man...don't care if it's true for all of them why on earth would you say that?

  47. Dear Musers, I get it. You are obsessed with Cowboys talk. Is there any chance that maybe you could talk about the Rangers tanking again in the final week of the season during the 8 o'clock hour instead of breaking down the schedule game by game or analyzing the depth of the deep snappers on the practice squad?

  48. I recall Rangers talk in the 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. hours, although I did not consult my timepiece. Given commuting patterns, I would think that 7-8 might even be a more-listened-to hour than the 8-9. In any event, I sure don't have the impression that The Musers neglect the Rangers.

Moreover, sad as it may be to fans favoring teetering first-place Ranger talk over teetering first-place Cowboys talk, I'm guessing most people would rather hear the latter even though the Rangers are on the brink of the playoffs. Hard to criticize Cat/Musers programming strategies here.

Oh the irony when my stream cut out during the Ticket promo about how "strong their stream is."

I agree with the Plainsman. It's no secret this this is a Cowboys town, and that they will always get the prime time segments in the DFW market. Its the same reason Why Today Doesn't Suck has been bumped for airing the Jason Garrett press conference.

We all know Garrett isn't going to say anything insightful or interesting, but you can't claim to be the best all sports station, and not air the Cowboy's press conferences. The TIcket, the Fan and ESPN all air them live, and I'm sure all three would rather they didn't have to, but as my leader Dan would say, "it's called, the way it is."

  50. To explain why any of the shows are talking more Cowboys than Rangers, all you have to do is look at the TV ratings. The huge Rangers/Astros games last weekend each got about a 4.5 rating. The Cowboys got about a 30 rating. So, if shows are talking Cowboys in prime time as opposed to Rangers, it's probably a very good business decision.

  51. Supposedly Cumulus' Lew Dickey is stepping down as CEO.

  52. Looks like both Dickeys are stepping down, actually.

  53. Man, I don't get the Jake hate. He is doing bits. Did anybody on here really marry up?

Love Jub of the Week!!!! More George!!!

  54. @Anon 9:09 - I can't remember what day it was, but it had to be an early weekday morning when The Jake Shoint was filling in for the Musers because I was on my way into work and had just taken the curve on the PBGT at 35. Maybe my intense dislike for Z-boy fuels my blood boiling, but I would've gone across the table at him. I tried to find the audio again the other day to see if it was as bad as I remembered, but I couldn't find the right morning. Might have been one of the mornings around July 4... that was the week that they filled in every morning (and it was either that holiday or Memorial Day when Jake totally disrespected the military... I checked Twitter and there were a few mentions to @dfwticket saying they were tuning out until D&M returned).

Bottom line: at this point, Jake isn't mature enough to handle his post. And there is NO WAY a guy like him drinks Scotch.

That said, I agree with Anon 8:43 that THL hasn't totally lost me, but it is infinitely better when Rhyner is in full gameday mode.

  55. May I speak freely? Rhyner is still THL. I thought he should fly solo when Greggo left. I guess that wouldn't have worked since he needs someone to bounce opinions off of. However, it should be just that. He bounces the opinion, but Rhyner still has to be the main focus. I was listening to baseball talk yesterday and Corby was chiming in. Corby didn't make bad points; he actually sounded like he bought some info to the table, but when Greggo was on, Corby and Danny wanted nothing to do with baseball. Maybe it's just Rhyner's delivery, voice, history with KZEW, but I'd rather hear Rhyner talk about just about anything rather than discuss anything with Corby. I met Corby once - hells a nice dude. Just not what I enjoy listening to except in a yuk monkey role. I'd rather have Mike and Danny, because in a situation where Corby's late or missed a flight and it's just the dark cloud and Rhyner, Danny will discuss topics but I feel he defers to Rhyner vs taking over. Wonder how it would go over if Danny was moved up to host, and Corby could do something else. I dunno what, but something.

    I agree.
Wish they had put Donnie with Mike and Corby with Norm.
Maybe the ownership changes will energize Mike again.
