PROGRAM NOTE: JV Dream Date

I believe I wrote a week or so back that I wanted to hear Our Man Monte and Travis Mejia do a weekend show.  If I'm hearing things correctly, I believe I'm getting my wish this fine Central Standard Sunday ("Mon-T&T," they're calling it).

Sounds good so far.

LATER:  I guess I missed a "T" -- there's a third host, one Tim with an Eastern European last name I'm not catching and not finding online -- Krajewski, maybe?  The only one I can find.  Pretty good show, good sound.   Not sure about three voices on a Sunday morning.  Not sure.  But liking it OK.  Monte in charge, that's a good.

Also, that last redhead was only up for a couple of hours before I put up that archived post, so here she is again.

  1. P-man -

I usually like my quiet time on Sunday mornings but gave it a listen. Donny came on at 10:30 to help. I thought there was a little too much over-talking but that is going to happen when three voices are trying to be heard. Overall, I would probably listen again if I was in the car on a Sunday morning.

FWIW - I never (hardly ever, maybe) listen on Saturday mornings because that time, if I am in the car, is dedicated to Ed Wallace and "Wheels" on 570 KLIF. Can anyone tell me how to record this the way the Unticket does the little one?

    ET P1

  2. Yes, maybe too many voices on that particular show, although it was OK. Tim maybe a bit excitable for the laid-back Monte/Travis approach I was looking for, but the content was OK and he was OK, didn't really have a problem with him. Show just ended up being a bit on the noisy side. I could deal with it, but would still like to hear a Monte/Travis duet.

  3. Didn't Tony Romo used to have dark-brownish hair and not that raven mop sticking out from under the headphones on the 'Pokes broadcast? Maybe not -- just looked artificially colored to me.

  4. Plainsman,
Not only artificially colored but artificially enhanced and thickened

  6. Thanks, 815. Looked awful.

However, I agree with Junior that his contribution yesterday was his best yet. Less frantic and interruptive (?). But also agree with Gordon that he needs to stop yelling.

  7. For a broadcasting rookie he is phenomenal. Interestingly if he continues with this he will be much better known to future young football fans as the TV celebrity analyst guy more than an a former pro bowl QB similar to Don Meredith in his day and John Madden whom a whole generation knew him as the unique broadcaster and not the HOF head coach. Transitions in life are good. Not winning a SB will not hinder his broadcasting career whatsoever.

  8. How in the hell can Danny say that nobody has tried to make the church shooting political?

    ReplyDelete
  9. That's true. The POTUS immediately made it political. Let's pray but its not a gun issue.

  10. Go away, 705. Just. Go. Away.

  11. Pretty cool that wanting there to be fewer mass shootings has somehow become political. Like, that's a political take, apparently.

  12. 705's comment is nothing but political.

  13. I haven't taken anyone down, but enough on this subject. Thank you.

  14. Sounds like there is an all hands staff meeting this morning.

  15. Why do you say that, 936? Am I the only one who finds Gordo's "Let me tell you 'bout my latest illness in all its gory details" talk not only gross, but also tedious, uninteresting, self-absorbed, and lazy?

  16. Echoing 10:09, what was said this morning that indicated an all hands on deck meeting? Even though I listened to damn near every Musers' segment today, I guess I missed it. And yes, spending an entire segment on sick talk is annoying. Especially when the segment leader is someone who often misses shows due to one ailment or another.

Interesting article, but, unless the situation/terms of restructuring is/are not as the article says (viz. much worse--e.g., Cumulus is actively pursuing a buyer for its DFW cluster), then I'm not sure as to why this would necessitate an all skate meeting (?).

  19. Rhynes was in during Gordo's corner and Gordon asked what brought him to the studio so early. Rhynes said he knew full well what brought him there so early and that they all had a meeting to go to and that they'd be told that "everything's alright" and that "debt is GOOD". Gordon then explained the Cumulus CEO was in town and that they'd be meeting with her.

  20. Debt can be good if you have a profitable business model. You get someone else to finance your growth/operations at an interest rate far below what you are making in terms of earnings from the business. Save your cash to buy back shares and increase dividends. Use other peoples money to finance growth and operations.

  21. Well, if the CTOs are mandating an all bands on deck in order to assuage fears.....best be sure that the reality of the meeting, no matter what is said, entails serious change(s). Stay tuned....

  22. I think if this were perceived as a bad news meeting they would not have mentioned it on air.

  23. If the CEO (Mary Berner) is in town, then it's not only possible but likely that a meeting was scheduled to let her say a few words, toss out an attaboy to the local station guys, maybe take some questions, just generally do some employee relations and give the troops a chance to see the boss.

Just yesterday my company's chief was in town and we were all assembled for exactly that kind of meeting.

Now, of course, Cumulus is in financial straits, so company meetings tend to be anticipated with dread.

If anything dribbles my way, I'll let you know.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maybe that explains Dan's day off.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Also: Public companies don't broadcast dire material information -- information that could move the stock price (although there's not a lot of downward space for the Cumulus price to move) -- to employees before it is made public. So tending to think the meeting is more than likely a nothingburger as far as really big news is concerned. She may throw out some inside tidbits, but they wouldn't amount to much.

Hey, could be wrong and if so, I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Yo, Psnoot. Big Myrna Loy weekend in TCM. Check out your listings and bring her some wingz.

  27. Far out, Boobs. Will check it out. Have a Plainschick in for the weekend, maybe she'd dig some Myrna. Maybe not.

If she doesn't, then you know she's not the bees' knees, P.

  29. Boobs, I see no evidence of a Myrnafest on TCM this weekend.

Not an offish Loyathon, but if you look at the titles, many have our babe as a co star.

  31. In fairness to Boobs, I saw a montage\ad for Myrna Loy Friday morning on TCM. They then listed all the upcoming movies she is in. All of those movies were\are being shown over this weekend. So, Boobs, you're the tits.
