Is There Tension?

I ask this question sincerely.  I invite daily BaD listeners to weigh in, because I've recently heard something on BaD that I did not expect to hear.

I have been able to tune into BaD twice in the last couple of weeks.  I regret that I can't listen more often, because I've kind of been warming up to the show over the past year or so.  But I did have a chance to punch in a couple of times recently.

Both times I heard a very tense moment between Bob and T.C.

T.C. would pop on.  Now, in T.C.'s defense, if he needs one, these pop-ons did not seem to me to be any more annoying than T.C.'s usual pop-ons.  You listen to BaD, you're going to hear T.C. pop on.  It goes with the territory.  One of them was a little sarcastic -- I don't recall the subject matter of either -- but well within T.C. historical tolerances.  Some people are OK with T.C.'s pop-ons, others less so, others not at all, but these sounded to me like not-out-of-the-ordinary pop-ons.  I did not take particular note of them, did not think T.C. was out of line in comparison with what he's apparently been allowed to do in the past.

But Bob took note and -- I don't think the phrase is "snapped at T.C."  I think the phrase is more like "expressed very distinctive annoyance at T.C. popping on, or perhaps at the said popped-on content."

In both cases -- my recollection may be a little thin here -- he paused before he spoke, as though considering his words carefully, or to signal that something unusual was coming.

In both cases, he called T.C. "Chuck."  Is that new?  Does he call him "Chuck" when he intends to make a slighting reference?

In the most recent episode he made reference to T.C.'s mic always seeming to be on.  In another he sarcastically -- the sarcasm was not veiled -- "thanked" T.C. for his contribution.

Dan did not speak during these uncomfortable passages.

In the most recent instance, Justin M was sitting in for Jake and had been participating in the show, although less than Jake usually does.  No interaction between Justin and T.C. during these passages (or at all).

I guess this could be a bit.  Again, I don't listen to BaD enough to know if this is some ongoing schtick, or if Bob is growing unhappy with T.C.'s always-bubbling-beneath-the-surface desire to participate in the show.

Confessors, please -- this is not an invitation to unload on T.C.  We've seen enough of that in the past and we all know how you feel.  I mainly want to know if either Bob or Dan has been spatting with T.C. on the air, or whether what I heard on my two recent flybys was anomalous.

T.C., you're  .  .  .  you're so much more than banter.

  1. I don't know that it could be called frequent but there are times that both Dan and Bob are clearly annoyed with TC's chiming in on certain things and express it in the typical passive-aggressive sarcasm that is their way.

TC doesn't bother me as much as he does some Confessors but he does have a tone of voice and delivery that can come across as very condescending and he often chimes in on what seem to me to be a minor point that didn't require any comment. Those seem to be the times that he sets Bob and Dan off.

  2. ^Agree with Kyle. They're all fine with each other imo but there are times when TC digs hard on a Bob opinion and Bob gets annoyed.

He calls him Chuck often, not only during the annoyed times.

  3. With Jake gone this week, T.C.'s involvement has been increased. I just can't. I tuned the dial elsewhere a couple of times this week solely because of him.

I'm not one of these with over-the-top hate towards T.C., but he in no way adds to any broadcast. I don't tune in for him. At this point, I tune in despite him.

He will chime in and make points that don't need to be made or discussed, and every time he sounds like a smart ass when doing it. Is it good to have another voice try to counter a Bob and/or Dan opinion? Yes. Is that voice T.C. No.

  4. Are you referring to TC “Let me read this Wikipedia entry I just googled on air in a way that makes it sound like I have known it all my life and you are all morons” Fleming?

  5. Seems to me if Bob and Dan wanted less T.C. they could get less T.C. UNLESS the Catman thinks T.C. adds value to the show.

  6. You think SJW Corby is aware of how many times he has referred to the woman in Portland as a "gal"?

  7. He is longwinded, rambles, and often, when he's speaking, he cannot seem to find a jumping off point, especially when asking a question. There is absolutely no efficiency in word usage, and I can only take it in small doses. Also, he must dominate, and control every conversation. I appreciate his sports knowledge, but he comes off as a condescending know-it-all. I'm talking about Bob.

  9. Long time P 1 here. I actually really like Corby and Danny EXCEPT regarding ANY social\political Issue. As a fellow dog lover, I admire what he and his wife do for the good puppy dog. Corby and Danny make me laff at the bits they come up with and when they bag on the old gray wolf (who’s been checked out for some time now) I think their collective on air chemistry is great. But today I couldn’t believe what I heard. They were talking about the situation with Mark Cuban and whether the NBA would take his team away. Corby said even if it’s true, “he’s not as bad as Donald Sterling”. WHAT!?! Cuban is accused of what amounts to a sexual assault! Sterling was exposed as a racist and dropping some N bombs. Are you kidding me? So to Corby - D. Sterling uttering some racist remarks is more egregious than that!? Does he REALLY believe that?? Our political correctness has officially reached Idiocracy level.

It should go without saying but I DONT AGREE with the actions of D. Sterling and frankly don’t believe his team should have been taken away. I honestly think his players and the public would have put him out of business.

    1. Well stated. It’s like a fellow P1 friend of mine said 20+ years ago - the OJ trial demonstrated that it’s a bigger crime in America to drop an n-bomb than to lop your wife’s head off...

  12. Either Summer Bash or Campound. Probably the latter.

  13. I would bet its Campound and I would further double down that they will be at Lloyd Park for the 3rd (or 4th?) consecutive year. Time to see who is best at tensetta...

  14. It’s probably too early for Campoumd and certainly Summer Bash.

  15. I heard the same exchange, and have heard exchanges between them before and after. It seemed out of character to me; that is, Bob typically seems to have a cordial relationship with T.C. And he's been calling him "Chuck" for years.

  16. I disagree - not too early to advertise a Campound for mid to late April. It is typically in April/May timeframe IIRC because they have had some cold nights in past.

  17. It's gonna be in May they already said. Around the 20th I believe but not sure on that part

  18. Major station announcement - Jub Jam moved back to Gilley's. April 19

  19. Can somebody please explain to me how Jub Jam is a major station announcement? Ridiculous!

  20. "Major Station Announcement" has been a bit for awhile. Even Cat embraces it.

  21. It's one of the major station events of the year and it'll be promoted endlessly until it happens. Those are the things for which they do major station announcements.

  22. When I saw the headline, I thought this post was referring to a couple weeks ago when the subject of porn came up and Bob said something to the effect of "I don't know... let's ask Jake who thinks porn is totally awesome," and Jake got offended and said "This is why I don't comment on these stories where you treatment like I'm some amoral person." It appeared in the next segment that they had kissed and made up, but that was tense....

  23. Julie Dobbs may have the worst mic technique I've ever heard. Could barely hear anything she said.

  25. I like her, too. I've always thought her Tickers were as good as any others, and I've never had an issue with clarity, volume, or locution generally.
