A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."
I've been maintaining this site since June 30, 2009.
Several other Ticket blogs – "blogs," sounds quaint, doesn't it, much like this scruddy Blogger platform – have come and gone in the meantime. A couple were promising, but they couldn't sustain. Many of you will recall a time when I wrote substantive pieces with some regularity.
I don't want to shut 'er down, but lately, I've been thinking my life would be net-net better without it.
Longtime confessors have seen it. Used to be a fairly friendly place, civil, not too profane. Stupidity usually got a pass. Believe it or not, I almost never, ever, deleted a post.
The joint got a reputation for fairness, to the point where we'd hear from insiders once in a while, and once in a while, I'd get a tidbit. Cat did an AMA some years ago.
Now – well, you can see what it's become. I don't know where all these angry, compositionally-challenged people came from. Maybe they think they get more eyeballs, and eyeballs that count, here than on Reddit or elsewhere.
So hear this:
I'm thisclose to monitoring comments – reading them before they're released to the site. I don't want to do it. But I need to make a last stab at cleaning up this particular stable.
Pro tips:
-- Keep your tone civil.
-- No name-calling.
-- No impugning intelligence, age, level of education, or other personal attributes.
-- The occasional vulgarity will pass, but best to avoid it lest I find its use angry or otherwise inappropriate.
-- Give some thought to addressing anothers' comment by that commenter's name, rather than "you."
-- No scurrilous accusations or gossip about the principal actors.
-- Accusing commenters of being someone is not favored, although will not be automatically kicked. If you have some compelling reason for believing it, let's have it.
-- Would you like your mother to know you wrote it?
-- As always, go/no-go decisions are very subjective, and you may come up with some feature of a comment not listed here that will spark my ire. I'm not required to be consistent.
The flames won't have to rise much higher before I pull the trigger. So Let's Make MTC Great Again.
And to continue the conversation at the tail end of the last thread: I’ve been at the last 2 Catlin AMAs. I don’t think he ever refused to answer a q. I think both years he started by talking about how successful the station is, and gave credit to the P1’s for listening. A “we wouldn’t be here if yall weren’t there listening. So I think that played a roll in some of the q’s and his a’s. For example, there was a q 2 years ago about TDZ and norm, lost talent, and subpar replacements from out of town ( a Mcclarin shot obviously). Catlin’s response from what I remember was “yeah TDZ was talented, they decided to leave, was out of our control, you play the game with players that want to be on your team. He then pivoted to ratings, and how the station is almost always first in their target demo, that while some may complain about the new shows, they still manage to win in the ratings, etc. c
I’ve harped on this before, I think there’s a major disconnect (hey guys!) between the prevelant Reddit opinion and objective reality. I feel like Reddit is almost completely negative now, yet the station still dominates in ratings. So many “I’ve stopped listening” or only listen to the Musers, HL, WTDS, etc that you’d think theyre shedding listeners by the thousands. Maybe they are, but they’re also gaining enough replacement listeners that the net is equilibrium. To return to the theme, that’s why I don’t think Catlin gets fastballs at the AMAs. The hardcore haters don’t go, and when someone does try to zing him he’s responding from a position as king of the hill. The station had a historic run, not just first in their demo, but they spent something like 6 straight months as the overall top station in the market. All with a crap AM signal and a rimshot FM you can not pick up anywhere south of I-20. For all the complaints on reddit, it’s not reflected in how they’re judged in the radio world, the ratings. C
Ticket Reddit has always had an inflated sense of self-importance. That comes from any fandom. They think Cat should answer to them. They're so fanatical that they feel they have a say in how their entertainment should be formatted or catered to them and what they want to hear. Almost as if they're shareholders and not people who just either absorb the free entertainment they are given or move on to something else. You can not enjoy the Ticket's current form but harping on it for 2 years now is so tiresome. You can listen to all the people who chose to leave. It's not like they were fired. They chose to move on. Yet the harping and anger continues. It's like the people who kept clamouring for Greggo after he was gone. They claim to move on and don't listen yet daily posts indicate otherwise. Meanwhile, Sweet Spot and Matt are still at the station.
Good refresh, Pman. No need to fret. The entire thing was ginned up. Notice how they sll STFU'd? Nothing but a nothing burger cooked up by a reddit mod who sold access to an individual that was neither an employee nor affiliated with The Ticket. Won't go further into details other than to say anything Cat or Peter Welpton related is one hundo invented. If you wonder why all parties suddenly shut up on a dime, there is a reason.
Personal thought. I think Jake, TC, Danny, and Sirois need therapy. Truthfully, I wonder what if anything Jake learned in rehab actually took...or if he, like so many others, including myself... merely danced the jig to get back to regular scheduled programming. I sure did. Took me 3 times to get serious and face myself in the mirror. Maybe I'm wrong. But I'm not seeing it in Jake. Quite the opposite.
There is a concerted effort against this blog. Certain folks are spending a lot of time trying to have you shut it down. To keep it alive is to defy them. To shut it down would be to let them win.
Yeah there is a small group or one person that gets their kicks on making the place a mess. I think many of the back and forths are the same person replying to themselves. Its a strange way to go through life but I guess some people are just gigantic aholes, know they are aholes and reveal in their aholeness.
Poor, I had the same thought. Which is why I decided not to shut it down but give monitoring a try if things didn't improve. (So far, so good; I thought I'd be flooded with crap, but only one so far -- accused me of fellating a certain Ticket executive.)
Odd, though -- I entertain all viewpoints, unless they're too angry or stupid. I think Confessors know that I like Jake, Mike S, Danny B, and yes, even Dan M as broadcasters and I'm sorry they're not associated with The Ticket any longer. Don't blame them for leaving. Don't blame them for competing. Their post-departure strategies were not entirely thought through, but none seem to be starving.
I'm not biased against them or, in fact, their tales of mistreatment. So why any partisan on either side would want this site to go away -- what's the point?
I think for some who are fans of Dan, Jake, Danny, and Sirois, anything that is not a glowing review of what they do or being 100% on their side on all things post-Ticket is not allowed. So they attack the people who they don't feel are on the side of the people who left or the people who are fine with how the Ticket is now. They don't like the Ticket now and they want you to also not like it so it's impossible for them to understand the alternative POV. It's a weird shared misery that they try to create. Like I said before, they now have more content of the people they want to listen to and that's weirdly not enough. They want to Cat fired, the Sweet Spot removed, Monty elevated (I actually agree with that), and McClarin back to Alabama. Then their boys can all return and things will be happy once again.
Someone once said "People don't want to hear you're opinion, they want to hear their opinion come out of your mouth." Though I think that goes with both sides of the Expat discussion. There are people on both sides that want this to be a us or them situation. I am sure should we ever learn the truth from people actually involved we will discover that its a lot more complex than people want to make it.
The comment section of this blog was founded on the notion of commenting about current Ticket and Ticket-adjacent goings-on. There has been a history of negative comments about Jake, TC, Corby, Norm, et al. For some reason these “any critical posts about current ticket hosts must mean they are deranged DZ fans” people can’t tolerate criticism of the current product. Mino and Sean are nowhere near the quality of host/show that previously occupied their time slot. McClearin was brought in because he was cheap and a known quantity. Very low risk. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a supremely weird dude. He was known as a weird dude since his initial tales of alien abduction, driving to Pittsburgh to fuck someone he met online, and his penchant for dating teenagers as a 30 and now 40 year old. Nothing new there.
As a very unwise man once said…I guess I just don’t get it.
Your read of the room is woefully off. You seem to inject your own biases onto anyone who sees things differently or does not fall in lock step with you. Saying, eg, "I think TSS is finding its stride" in response to the umpteenth "they suck" by the same three people is not a case of an inability to allow other opinions. I'm not a fan of the "They won" bit, however, I sorta understand from which it arises. Truth be told, you're engaging in the very same thing you accuse others of doing.
Agreed. To me, shutting down the site is giving in to the trolls. They want this place shutdown. But I am not plainsman, so I get it if he is tired of running it.
I think it’s far weirder that anytime people post positive thoughts about The Dumb Zone they are met without fail by the “they won” “they don’t care about you” “the steel toed boot is about to fall” “wait until the actual story comes out” guy that for some reason feels compelled to try to stamp out anything but glowing Ticket/Cat/Peter talk. Just watch. They can’t let this post go without responding.
Heo, you're perpetuating the issue with comments like this. Your bias is obvious. Snd you're no different than those who can't abide anyone who enjoys TDZ or TF (when it existed). You see anyone whose opinion differs from yours to be a boot licker, corporate shill, Cat butt buddy, whatever.
"2) I did not, do not, and will not have any access or involvement as it relates to the moderation of this r/.
The best context I have to share is: I was contacted, back in May, by the previous lead mod (someone I don’t know and is an anonymous account) who explained they were giving up the role, was concerned over the fate of the r/, and asked if I was interested in replacing them.
I declined.
Anything that happened after that is 100% on them to share, explain, etc.
I don’t have anything else to provide, except that I’m only including this here because I told the current mod (another person I do not know and who is anonymous), at their suggestion, that I would.
Otherwise, a new Premier League season is here, and I’m distracted by the idea of United money-whipping Brighton into selling Baleba. "
*End Statement*
If I'm Jake and Danny, I'm hanging my head in shame, reaching out to Peter, and apologizing to my audience. The venom, the sheer hatred they fomented against a part time employee is absolutely shameful.
The comments on are Reddit are unreal. It’s disturbing. I seriously don’t get it. The steel toe about to drop, the boys are killing in with the DZ stuff can be funny sometimes or mainly harmless, what’s going on with that Reddit post is disturbing. People seriously attacking Peter.
I got the same vibe. Annoyed but what might have come down on Reddit by Cat but the hate is awful. Like that Black Mirror Bee epsiode. Who can we hate today.
And that's the rub, Buddy. "Might." Except we will soon be 2 weeks into it and not a single shred, not even a whiff of evidence. Yet the hate is real. The whole thing frightens me in that it is grounded in a deep seated, seething anger.....coalesced around a group of minor local celebrities coupled with a refusal or inability to tolerate any deviating opinion. Jacobinism to a T. Except at least the Jacobins believed in the tangible, clearly defined ideas they fought and killed for. There's a puritanic aspect to all this that is blinkered, unsettling, and sadly, reflective of our society.
I’m convinced half the hatred toward Catlin is because he got rid of/didn’t retain talent that some people like. I could have seen Bewm in the house w Donovan and Sirois taking Norms place. Jake with a long run in middays before moving to mornings, etc.
I’ve been told by someone in a position to know that bennet and Catlin were surprised by Norms retirement. (Hint- afterwards they had to mollify upset norm endorsement clients-“I signed a year long contract to use Norm as an endorser, what do you mean he’s leaving?”.) I think if Catlin was Dr Strange and could have used the time stone to look into the future, maybe they retain Sirois. But Norm went out on top. Old but still getting great ratings. With Bennets history with norm do you think Catlin could have sold “I want to open you up to an age discrimination lawsuit and fire the 40 year veteran for the producer who’s never hosted a show by himself and has zero ratings history”.
I think you plan for the future- you give airtime to shows like Work in Progress to build your bench. But every current show has ratings success. Is anybody really suggesting replacing a successful show with an untried, unproven show? It’s like going into Bobs Steak house and getting rid of steaks and making it a seafood place. You’re successful with steaks, why change?
Yes it means he is smart to stay out of a fray that distracts from what he is trying to do, is generally uninteresting to listeners after the initial shock that Cat is a POS and a liar as evidenced by his omissions and horrible performance for Cumulus in court coupled with his underhanded actions on Reddit. But yes I agree that he rightfully doesn't want to bring this garbage to the DZ air. Good on him. Thanks for noticing and pointing out.
Regardless of any courtroom testimony that may or may not be accurate, as it was related by one side alone (were you present for it?), there is zero evidence -bc it doesn't exist/never happened- that Cat had anything to do w reddit. Yet here you are snacking pixelated gums. I agree with your thoughts on Dan. Indeed, I made a comment in the previous thread about how despite his on air nonchalance, Dan is very driven and hard working. He takes his craft seriously. Unlike Jake, he has no safety net. Never has. Unlike Jake, he knows what it's like to toil away in a small market and ACTUALLY be told what to say, what not to say, and get utterly shit on by your superior all while being paid jack shit. So yeah, Dan's playing this with an eye to his best interests. Good on him.
Interesting how little interest is now paid to him. All that praise and hero worship during the first handful of months post faux retirement. The countless articles, interviews, and hagiographical doc. Then the shock and hype of his Freak endeavor. And just as quickly, everyone began to notice. . . . Now. There he is paired up again with his old partner who he wouldn't even acknowledge for over a decade until he desperately needed attention for his already floundering show. But no one but a gaggle of longtime hangers on and sycophants even knows about it, much less cares. Proof positive that sometimes you can't go home.
Rhynes could’ve done a real retirement farewell tour. Announced it, done a final month sha-bang or something, come back to talk with hardline or musers, whoever occasionally, had some type of podcast, and stayed relevant. Instead we have the “Irish exit” and his fade into obscurity.
It is disappointing that Rhyner burned all the good will he had when he retired. I still give him credit for what he did achomplish and his role in the station, but its hard to preserve the good memories with all the BS.
Fading into obscurity is right. It is shocking the low numbers that Rhyner's podcast on YouTube is getting. For the last three weeks, nothing over 1K views.
And there’s about a dozen on Reddit that just post under multiple sock accounts. A friend pointed out how he figured it out, and it’s hard to disagree with his reasoning.
I believe it's one person trolling not so much for "Team Ticket," but merely to drive the four maybe five "Anti Team Ticket" members insane. Of the four maybe five ATTers, I contend they know each other to some degree. Two or three are ex-Ticket employees and the remainder are involved with the reddit page. Of that last bunch, the real engine behind them has been trolling MTC since its earliest days. NB: A certain reddit VIP who unleashed the latest stink suddenly disappeared; that very same day the ATT comments here plummeted to pretty much nothing. You do the arithmetic.
Agreed for the most part. I'll go ahead and name names. BKHarmony, Jake, Sirois. and Sam Hale 1-hundo. TC, 98% positive. They and a few lackeys drive it. The they won, emoji man, weird sex talk, surrealist, wkrp troll is definitely all the same person.
Irene A (the only woman Holmes ever loved - who also bested him) and Gug get a gold star. Sexpertly done, my babies. Nailed it on both accounts like I nail all tha hot dudes and bitches.
Right now, everything kool. No see me. But when the skippys n turbos cum back 'round, and ya know they will cuz ladies b trippin', ya boi will provide corrective measures, yo.
It ain't me, daddy, but in the spirit of that one cuz I dig they work too, this one's for you, Electric Zuloo and the Commas: "Everything I do, I do it for you."
Until the time needs and bees. If you ever wondered. . . . . L8R G8TRS
While I'm at it, I'll add this: Calling commenters, "pal," "skippy," "chum," "chief" (yeah, I know, G Dunham likes that one), and the like -- it ain't exactly name-calling, but it's belittling and I dislike it a lot. It just got emoji booted.
I don’t particularly care for the Dumb Zone. I may catch a stray YouTube video every now and then, but that’s it. I could never stand Dan’s insistence on analyzing press conference audio for hours per week, even going back the Bad Radio days. In addition, also, furthermore, I think the Ticket quality dropped off a cliff since Mike left and Jeff Catlin put Bob Sturm on the Hardline. I know, somehow, that people like it here, but the Sweet Spot is the weakest show the station has ever had. I’m including Chris Arnold and Dale Hanson’s shows. I’m including Rocco Pendola. These are all decisions that Jeff Catlin made. I’m sure the almighty ratings will be decent for some amount of time, but I (and others) listened for 25 years and stopped and I think that should be a warning about the long term health of the station. It’s my understanding that having this opinion means I’m a Dumb Zone operative and that I’ve indelibly insulted the super fans of a local sport station PD and midday show.
I question that if Dan and Jake died in a car wreck instead of doing a podcast if the blind, militant, culture war, belief that the Ticket can do no wrong would be so prevalent.
Interesting and blinkered framing, there, Har. But that's the You we've come to know. Nothing new. Interesting too is how you somehow believe Cat created the circumstances that forced him to make certain decisions. Interesting, as well, is your apparent belief that Cat makes all decisions in a bubble with no one above him either advising or even at times dictating to him what he ought/will do. Finally, and perhaps most interesting of all, is why you continually as in nearly daily leave for all intents and purposes the same two negative comments on a fansite about the very topic the fansite is based upon. That you appear to be unable to abide anyone who doesn't share your negative views on, again, the very thing the fansite is a fan of. Related aside: Do you still believe Cat and Peter attempted to infiltrate reddit, even though the latter publicly denied it and nearly 3 weeks later not one iota of proof has surfaced? OK, last one, I promise. If you found out with apodictic certainty that 1. Cat was not involved with reddit and that he 100% was giving Sirois Norm's spot but legally couldn't say anything to Sirois, would you fo your dang near daily MTC two-step?
Chris Arnold, Dale Hanson, and Rocco were all either Laddy or Bruce Gilbert decisions. Cat was still the producer of the original Hardline back then. Cat wasn't back as PD until well into the Bob and Dan days of the mid 00s.
Disagree on Bob making the HL worse. They had no other choice. Late Rhyner HL was really bad as Danny and Corby had to carry the show when Rhyner was disinterested or too busy worrying about his next Petty Theft performance. He lost his fastball a long time ago.
It’s black and white thinking with them. Many of these people think the simple solution that cat should have done is promote the entire bad radio show to drive time. But they don’t know how stuff works. If you do that, you demote corby, in what world?
The bin promotion ended up working out imo. With just Bob it was eh, but then they added Dave and now it’s a good show.
I’ve always kind of assumed BAD to PMD was Plan B. Corby had ratings success as part of the HL, especially in last few years with checked out Mike. I don’t think you can move Corby without giving him a chance solo or with a new partner. And do you really promote Sirois or Danny directly from producer to host on the 2nd most important show on what is arguably the most important station in Cumulus? (They’re the top biller in the market, and DFW is their biggest market) With Corby’s background as a yuk monkey, I think you have to replace MR with a sports heavy dude. Norm couldn’t handle 4 hours, so Bob or go outside the bunker. And with Jake chomping at the bit (remember “waiting on a ticket host to die”?) promoting Bob AND Jake probably seemed like a good idea. Who knew Dam would be so butt hurt and Jake would have his feelings hurt by getting what he described as (checks notes) his dream job. C
What I don't get when it comes to the Big Harrys of this little world we inhabit is that we come here to state opinions and dialogue. With the BH types it's all rigid, non-negotiable opinion stated as consensus. And anything else serves only to "protect" or somehow curry favor with X, Y, and Z who are perhaps the most incompetent and maybe evilest people in the world. All laid out in a mostly emotionally charged, myopic fashion that rarely reflects either the facts on the ground or the realities of business. Added up, and there is rarely if ever even a crack of daylight for actual discussion. Once in a great while, sure. But mostly, and I'm not picking on you, but you're the latest example, it's the BHs that perpetuate this. Of course, emoji man and their ilk only keep the fire burning. The last thing is that nome of these folks, here or on reddit, ever say "Sorry, got that one wrong." This Cat/Peter reddit b.s. is a perfect example. Not a single person spewing pure hatred has said to the effect that maybe we jumped the gun and maybe we should let things play out a bit before castigating others. And maybe I ought to take a hard look at myself for so eagerly and enthusiastically embracing and participating in such venomous behavior. But no. Just silence. Nothing to see here. We've moved on. Bring on the next scapegoat. Absolutely saddens me.
Failed producer wannabe. Story I’ve heard is that he didn’t get Sirois’ job when he left and went scorched earth. Burned his bridges, burned the bridge repair equipment, even burned down the forest and the steel mill to prevent those being used in the repair. C
Engineer is the key term. Doesn't count. Dan thought he was a Stern like flunky do anything for attention so I'll use him up until the bit runs dry casualty of content creation. Sirois followed by TC.
As to Big Harry’s comment- as already stated, the quality went down when the guy who’d basically stopped participating in 3/4ths of the show stopped participating at all? Rhyner was being rightfully ripped in multiple fronts, I’ll believe you like MR over Bob, but Bob tries. He shows up. Pt 2- while “you” may have quit listening after 25 years, yeah the almighty ratings aren’t reflecting that. It may be a shitty system, but it’s the one everyone plays by, and they’re clearly winning. As to Keisters comment - to quote Grubes, “exactly, I mean…”. Catlin made these decisions, probably with Bennetts direction or agreement because hands were forced. I get it, not like Sirois could go to Catlin and say “look iheart is going to flip the Eagle, unless you promote me, get me under contract, etc I’m leaving”. So JC is supposed to triple Mikes salary (his pay claim) because he claims the Eagle will flip? In what world would a GM or PD fall for that? I ask everyone to consider this hypothetical, no lobster claws, but instead what if it was sweet spot? Or “Thumper and Smitty” (made up duo) couple of random guys who nobody had ever heard of, from some random market, the kind of show that thinks “Pete Rose, hall of fame or not” is a legitimate topic. C
C Minus, Dan getting butt hurt was very predictable. His leaving was basically inevitable. The only surprise to me was getting Jake to go along with leaving his dream job.
Other than that, there is a lot of stuff that just makes sense in these comments. Bad radio to pm drive would have been my preference but you have to assume Corby has a contract that makes moving him difficult/impossible/expensive. So to shift Bad Radio, you basically have to make it a 3 host show with Corby & seeing as how Corby had been the Bad radio yuck monkey before, I wouldn’t be surprised if Corby didn’t love the idea of that dynamic
I bet they thought he’d be butt hurt, but not butt hurt enough to leave a VERY successful station in a top 4 market. Tangent- anecdotally ive heard from more than a few people who are happy to top out their careers here, rather than try to go top 3. NY-LA-CHI are all much higher cost of living, bad commutes, etc,. If you’re a drive time jock who’s happy w your compensation, why try to go bigger? as for Dan leaving, I’ve been told that TT does a focus group every couple of years. Get a bunch of people in a hotel conference room, ask them what do you think of TT, what do you think of TF. On a scale of 1-5 how do you rate this jock for knowledge, likability, entertainment appeal, etc. from what I’m told, Dan was consistently one of, ( if not THE) lowest rated of the main hosts. If true, (and I’d believe it, Dam for me was never a break out guy in any sport, likeBob cowboys and stats, George cowboys, Rhyner baseball, where I was like “can’t wait to hear what Mike says about this”, so if true, I can see where corporate would look at THZs demands, look at their popularity and peace out. Might have given in if musers made the same request (they of the 20 share) but no reason to give THZ the whole kit and kaboodle. C
Let's just say these are the terms everyone is thinking that around the 4 month mark after the initial excitement of the court proceedings, the fawning of local and some national press/celebs, lawyer circle jerks-I mean roundtables, and over all self pats on the back (sound familiar, cf. The Freak), and the real work and the daunting nature of what lied ahead and the ever emerging true nature/work ethic of some of those around him. . . . take a breath. . . . Dan woke up from his dogmatic slumber and ever since has been working back channels for a return to what he knows best once the inevitable occurs. Not necessarily TT, btw.
^^these sentiments are what I and others here who've been framed as "anti-Ticket" don't get. There seems to be vitriol or hurt feelings against Dan and Jake. That they have done something to personally harm you.
It's been over 2 years. TDZ seems to be doing fine. Yes, Dan left a lot on the table, but that was a decision he made and I have no intimate knowledge of his long-term financial situation. Blake and Clayton are making a shit-ton more than they used to. Jake seems to be making similar money (yes, he still has a ways to go before he is completely whole when you factor in lawyer fees). But again, they thought Cumulus did a laundry list of things that were not only unethical but actually illegal in their contract negotiations and while they were employed there. So they didn't want to stay as Cumulus employees.
So Dan has been working "back channels" to get back on terrestrial radio for almost 2 years now? I'm not sure how what TDZ is doing differs from what Dan "knows best". What do you mean by that?
Again. These are the terms just about everyone is speaking in. Dan knows being an on-air personality best. Not being an entrepreneur, businessman, salesman, coordinator, and all the rest that's extrinsic to content creation. I'm curious as to your understanding of what it takes to take on an endeavor with a scope such as TDZ. The overwhelming majority of the actual work involved has nothing yo do with being a sports humorist.
I'm also curious about your understanding of the term "vitriol." If you, please, be so kind as to point out your perceived vitriol. Indeed, the comment is pro-Dan. Thank you in advance.
quesluv, my friend, neither Dan nor Jake are making anywhere near what they once did. How do I know this? Because they've admitted it, many times. As recently as last year. Their sub numbers have been stagnate. There has been little to no measurable, sustained growth--other than in their overhead costs. I'm not trying to be mean or demean you, but I'm not sure what your basic business acumen is. They might be doing pretty good, and Blake might be making more (that's not a difficult achievement considering what the JV earns at TT), but they are not making even close to their Ticket salaries, have non of of the benefits/insurance/paid vacations/etc, and are doing 4x the amount of work. If they're digging that, great. More power to them.
"Again. These are the terms just about everyone is speaking in. Dan knows being an on-air personality best."
No. That's just you, who for 2 years has been saying that Dan would be back on the air in Dayton working for peanuts.
If you have evidence that Dan has been "working back channels" for 2 years, let's have it. Otherwise it's no different than saying Cat took over the Ticket sub
You're highly invested. The reverse 'see how..." move isn't working. Poor rhetorical ploy. Let's cut that back, a lot, and try a new angle. I'll ask again: Why are you so invested?
I think the "Who led who" out of the ticket Dan vs. Jake is really just a combo of both of them. During their time at the ticket they were both in love with NBA empowerment movement. Thought it was great/funny. They applied it to their own life. The who won vs. who loss argument is stupid. They both lost.
^ “they both lost” - my sentiments as well, but I would take it a step further. Everyone lost, most of all the listener. The Ticket used to be something special, far greater than the sum of its parts. That is gone.
The Hang Zone was a better show than the Dumb Zone. Dan and Jake were more effective within the broader context of the Ticket, with all of the mixing of personalities that implies. Same goes for Sirois and Danny. The other Ticket shows were complimented by the aforementioned people being in the mix.
For a mixture of reasons (one of which is never mentioned but was a major factor - ego), that combined magic was broken by people who thought they they could take it with them to a podcast or a new radio station. They couldn’t, because whether they realized it or not, what they used to be a part of was bigger than all of the individuals involved. What they did do was break the spell and, justified or not, ruin something special.
So now the DZ is fine. Jake is making about the same money with much more work and a much smaller audience/impact, and he got to stick it to his old boss who he thinks was beneath him intellectually and morally. Good for him. Dan has the same reduction of audience/impact but with less earnings as well. They get to more fully indulge their tendencies, both good and bad. The much smaller audience they do have are ride or die true believers, which I’m sure is a benefit for advertising. The Jake and Dan die hards love the DZ, but now have to pay for it in addition to listening to ads if they want to hear it ever week day, instead of listening to the HZ for free on streaming/radio. Those of us who liked the HZ in the broader Ticket context but not enough to pay for the DZ as a standalone entity had a negative net result, because…
The Ticket is objectively worse than it was before the exodus. The mid day shows are not nearly as good and the whole combined magic previously described is gone. That negatively impacted the drive time shows as well. It negatively impacted what used to be highly anticipated events like Campound or Summer Bash roundtables.
The tribalism makes it zero sum between the two, but my point is that both are worse. Unless you have a financial interest in one or the other, what really matters is the product we were/are the consumers for, and the consumer is worse off by a long shot. As some ppl rush to point out depending on which tribe they’re in, the Ticket is fine. The DZ is fine. The magic for the listener is gone.
Not sure how so many here *know* what DbJ now earn. I'm thinking you/they don't. I'm also at a loss re how J stuck it to Cat. Cat lost nothing except two disgruntled employees who commanded large salaries and were stirring up dissent both within and outside the station walls. Regardless of quality, quantitatively the ratings during that timeframe are commensurate to at times better than their predecessor's, but without the headaches and for less pay. Again, quality aside, Cat's bosses care about one thing. It's the one thing that assures him a job and earns him bonuses: ratings. Cat has delivered in that regard. Meanwhile, per your own (I believe correct) assessment, J is working exponentially harder for (here I'm going off his own words) less money than he previously made. Finally, as to middays being objectively worse. That is your subjective opinion. While I agree with you that THZ was better than TSS, the thing that counts, ratings, paint a different picture. They say, as data taken purely as data, objectively there is little to no difference. Now why the ratings are that way is a different story. Could be listener habit, etc. But if that is the case, and a large swathe of the audience finds TSS to be poor programming, at some point the ratings will reflect it. See Rocco Pendola. He was tanking. Listeners were bailing during his slot and writing in to management in droves. His meltdown on The Rant gave The Laddie cause/pretense to get rid of him before his contract was up. So far, that hasn't been the case with TSS. At this juncture in the game, I doubt it ever will. So we're left with the idea that perhaps most listeners are OK with it.
Anyways. Like I said, I do agree with a lot of what you said.
To clarify a couple things - apparently Jake said on the Mom Game podcast recently that he’s now making the same, so that’s where that came from. Whether he’s being entirely truthful or is making the same as what he’d been offered for the new contract that he turned down, who knows.
Also, I was referring to the ‘sticking it to his boss’ thing from what is apparently his perspective. From my standpoint he came off looking like a child, Cat’s management style notwithstanding.
Finally, fair point on the egregious use of the word objective. But I truly cannot imagine anyone honestly believing the current state of the Ticket is preferable to what came before.
I don't think anyone thinks middays are better but there are some things that I think about 1) I never really liked middays much, so it's not a huge change for me lol
2) on WTDS you will hear people that email in saying Mino or Sean are their leader. So there are some fans out there.
I also agree with a lor if this. And I LOL’d at “they’re objectively worse here’s all my subjective opinions as to why”. I agree that the sweet spot may be weaker than THZ, but a few thoughts. Radio stations make money in drive times. It’s where the vast majority of listeners are. Middays aren’t unimportant, but drive times are the meat and potatos of a line up. Middays are a side dish that a lot fewer people consume. So I think some of TSS listenership is habit. If I’m a sport talk listener, and I’ve settled on TT as my P1 choice, odds are it’s going to take a lot to convert me to another radio station. So 2 guys quit and are replaced by 2 new guys. Is the station still talking about the Cowboys when I get in my car between 1 and 3? Then I’m still listening” is a typical listener thought pattern. And if you don’t believe me go look at Welptons last ratings post. July book, Musers on vacation for 3 of the 4 weeks, random collection of shows fill in. And the end result? The ratings cratered, they dropped off a cliff, they took a nose dive from a 16 all the way down to (checks notes) a 15.3. People listen to the station. Says a lot about their positioning, their imaging etc that the musers can take almost a month off and they still get ratings most other stations would kill for. C
Yep, agree completely. The listener is the most important part, always is. Same with sports, sure athletes can demand a trade, more money, etc., but the fan/listener/watcher is still the most important part. None of these people are being abused where we need to feel for some type of horrid work conditions. Did I think Jake should make some more money or something? Sure, but ultimately I just wanted them to stay at the ticket.
He asked for an increase in pay and got it. It was about being a drive time host and going up against, ideally THL. They were in on TF from its inception. Yes, they'd make money. But that wasn't the motivator.
IJB talks some more about Reddit/Cat/Ticket work environment etc in Ep 1155, around the 40min mark. Some interesting pull-back-the-curtain nuggets, with less full T jakeZ. But it does seem he's really enjoying all the s-talk about Cat&Pete.
Gog, would you ever call Jake a loser to his face? Of course not, because he would pummel you. So why do you think its cool to say it on here? Typical keyboard warrior.
Would like to know if gog has the sack too. But tap the brakes on Bad Ass Jake. Helluva an assumption. Based on what? He took boxing lessons for a few months and knocked around that little twerp, Mike in D'ville.
1) Jake has been in fights his whole life. While he self-admittedly hasn't won them all, he has extensive experience and isn't the kind of guy to back down.
2) The guy is in excellent shape and works out every day (like the extreme 2-hour full-body kind) so he has the strength and the stamina.
3) I get the impression that in a fight, he's the kind of guy that "sees red" if you know what I mean. He has chilled a bit since he went to rehab but I feel there is a boiling kettle deep inside who is just waiting for someone to say shit to him in real life.
4) He is on Testosterone Replacement Therapy so he is even more amped up than usual.
I am not saying he is Chuck Norris but I think he could kick an normal dude's ass.
Odd one, Trixxx is for kids. Actually your boy het his shit rocked by a bruh no more than 5'10 outside a FW watering hole back in '16.!Points for Sex started it, other dude def finished it.
Sounds like we found Jake’s burner account! Lol! Go back to your loser basement with all your reject friends! Have fun mopping floors in two years while Cat runs a successful radio station that you could never succeed at!
Gog, Magog. Pal. Understand Points For Sex has not one but two Golden Parachutes. Sppily Boy gonna be stylin' tegardkess of the inevitable collapse of The Boys. The Thin-Skinned one, on the other hand, oh buddy.
The other comment from Ed that I agree with a lor if this, re TSS ratings. He refers to Rocco and says if people were unhappy they’d tune out. True dat, double true. But it’s been 2 years. Back to Welpton, TT has been number one for some ridiculous figure I’m to lazy to go look up. But like 30 or 33 of around the last 35 months. So if it’s 30+ months, that’s the last year of THZ, and all of TSS. So when do you think the listener exodus will happen. Do people usually listen to something for 2 years and suddenly decide in year 3 that they’re over it? C
A few thoughts on the TC/jake/cat controversy. TC was an intern who was by most accounts horrible on air, he got the job not because he was a talented ticker guy, but because he housesat for Dan and did a good job picking up their lunch order. When Catlin (rightly) saw that this guy had zero radio talent, he gave him zero chance to advance. As he should have. There is zero that comes out of TCs mouth that I put an ounce of stock on. This is a guy who based on his illustrious handful of years as a ticker guy, thought he had the talent and skills to be a program director. I don’t care how small Pensacola is, how delusional do you have to be to think you can make that leap AND be successful at it. I believe nothing TC says, and anything out of Jake’s mouth is tainted by the TC association. C
The ch one other thing that just popped into my head- Russ used to rail against his PD, as did Howard. The Freak Crew started taking potshots at their PD towards the end and afterwards. The one specific I remember was MR being asked about no mixes between shows and his response was “someone doesn’t like it, we’ve been told to stop”. Except for the occasional clock over content joke I don’t hear a lot of shots at Catlin, except from Jake and TC. If I’ve forgotten something fill me in please
All con men eventually get found out. First, Greggo, then, Rhyner. On deck, Jake. In the hole, Dan. Y'all bootlicker shills will soon find out who the real fuckos are. Oppo, biatches. DON'T MAKE ME DO THIS
ReplyDeleteI've been maintaining this site since June 30, 2009.

ReplyDeleteLet's do it bigly and beautiful like you wouldn't believe.
DeleteFair enough Plainsman, your site, your rules.
ReplyDeleteAnd to continue the conversation at the tail end of the last thread: I’ve been at the last 2 Catlin AMAs.
He then pivoted to ratings, and how the station is almost always first in their target demo, that while some may complain about the new shows, they still manage to win in the ratings, etc.
c
Thanks!
DeleteI’ve harped on this before, I think there’s a major disconnect (hey guys!) between the prevelant Reddit opinion and objective reality. I feel like Reddit is almost completely negative now, yet the station still dominates in ratings. So many “I’ve stopped listening” or only listen to the Musers, HL, WTDS, etc that you’d think theyre shedding listeners by the thousands.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are, but they’re also gaining enough replacement listeners that the net is equilibrium.
DeleteGood refresh, Pman.
ReplyDeletePersonal thought.
Honestly, man, if it were me, I’d shut the site down before I started monitoring comments. Who needs the aggravation?
ReplyDeleteBeen visiting since the infamous summer bash where BAD was leaving. I’d miss the site, but it isn’t worth it.
It’s not worth it to have to deal with the people that come on here just to bash everything & constantly accuse people of having hidden agendas.
I guess you cold go He Who Too on this but that's probably more trouble than it's worth.
ReplyDeleteThere is a concerted effort against this blog. Certain folks are spending a lot of time trying to have you shut it down. To keep it alive is to defy them. To shut it down would be to let them win.
ReplyDeleteNailed it.
DeleteYeah there is a small group or one person that gets their kicks on making the place a mess. I think many of the back and forths are the same person replying to themselves. Its a strange way to go through life but I guess some people are just gigantic aholes, know they are aholes and reveal in their aholeness.
DeletePoor, I had the same thought. Which is why I decided not to shut it down but give monitoring a try if things didn't improve. (So far, so good; I thought I'd be flooded with crap, but only one so far -- accused me of fellating a certain Ticket executive.)
DeleteOdd, though -- I entertain all viewpoints, unless they're too angry or stupid.
Delete
DeleteSomeone once said "People don't want to hear you're opinion, they want to hear their opinion come out of your mouth." Though I think that goes with both sides of the Expat discussion. There are people on both sides that want this to be a us or them situation. I am sure should we ever learn the truth from people actually involved we will discover that its a lot more complex than people want to make it.
DeleteThe comment section of this blog was founded on the notion of commenting about current Ticket and Ticket-adjacent goings-on.
DeleteAs a very unwise man once said…I guess I just don’t get it.
DeleteCORRECTION: "none seems to be starving." I regret the error.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. To me, shutting down the site is giving in to the trolls. They want this place shutdown. But I am not plainsman, so I get it if he is tired of running it.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s far weirder that anytime people post positive thoughts about The Dumb Zone they are met without fail by the “they won” “they don’t care about you” “the steel toed boot is about to fall” “wait until the actual story comes out” guy that for some reason feels compelled to try to stamp out anything but glowing Ticket/Cat/Peter talk. Just watch. They can’t let this post go without responding.
ReplyDeleteSure. The guys doing a failed Rhyner/Johnny Fever bit are pretty awful. There's trolling on both sides that's tiresome.
DeletePeter just posted the ratings on Reddit and said he was never a mod on the Reddit board. Musers and HL are still dominating.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteHere is Peter's statement on reddit:
ReplyDelete"2) I did not, do not, and will not have any access or involvement as it relates to the moderation of this r/.

DeleteTrying to adhere to Plainsman's wishes. Take a look at some of the responses to his post on that thread. Kind of unreal.
DeleteThe comments on are Reddit are unreal. It’s disturbing. I seriously don’t get it. The steel toe about to drop, the boys are killing in with the DZ stuff can be funny sometimes or mainly harmless, what’s going on with that Reddit post is disturbing. People seriously attacking Peter.
ReplyDeleteI got the same vibe. Annoyed but what might have come down on Reddit by Cat but the hate is awful. Like that Black Mirror Bee epsiode. Who can we hate today.
DeleteAnd that's the rub, Buddy.
DeleteAll because of TC, Jake, Danny, and Sirois. Utterly shameful.
ReplyDeleteI’m convinced half the hatred toward Catlin is because he got rid of/didn’t retain talent that some people like. I could have seen Bewm in the house w Donovan and Sirois taking Norms place. Jake with a long run in middays before moving to mornings, etc.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been told by someone in a position to know that bennet and Catlin were surprised by Norms retirement. (Hint- afterwards they had to mollify upset norm endorsement clients-“I signed a year long contract to use Norm as an endorser, what do you mean he’s leaving?”.)
I think if Catlin was Dr Strange and could have used the time stone to look into the future, maybe they retain Sirois.
Read Rene Girard's "The Scapegoat." This will all make sense.
DeleteNotice how Dan has absolutely stayed quiet from the jump. That should speak volumes, and on several levels.
ReplyDeleteYes it means he is smart to stay out of a fray that distracts from what he is trying to do, is generally uninteresting to listeners after the initial shock that Cat is a POS and a liar as evidenced by his omissions and horrible performance for Cumulus in court coupled with his underhanded actions on Reddit. But yes I agree that he rightfully doesn't want to bring this garbage to the DZ air. Good on him. Thanks for noticing and pointing out.
DeleteRegardless of any courtroom testimony that may or may not be accurate, as it was related by one side alone (were you present for it?), there is zero evidence -bc it doesn't exist/never happened- that Cat had anything to do w reddit.
DeleteThe courtroom testimony was publicly available. What do you mean it was related by one side only?
DeleteAt what level?
ReplyDeleteDan is gonna ball out.
Let’s worry about the ones who are here. Not the ones who aren’t here.

DeleteWhat quote? But yeah, Rhyner is a piece of work. Always has been.
DeleteLet's just say that I'd imagine that those are the terms that Rhyner is thought about in by just about everybody.
DeleteInteresting how little interest is now paid to him.
DeleteAs Rhyner once said: “Never leave the nurturing biosphere of the mothership.” Now, even he, is seeing what happens.
ReplyDeleteRhynes could’ve done a real retirement farewell tour. Announced it, done a final month sha-bang or something, come back to talk with hardline or musers, whoever occasionally, had some type of podcast, and stayed relevant. Instead we have the “Irish exit” and his fade into obscurity.
ReplyDeleteIt is disappointing that Rhyner burned all the good will he had when he retired. I still give him credit for what he did achomplish and his role in the station, but its hard to preserve the good memories with all the BS.
ReplyDeleteThe Ticket Mouse is probably a boot licker too
ReplyDeleteAll snarl, no bite.
DeleteFading into obscurity is right. It is shocking the low numbers that Rhyner's podcast on YouTube is getting. For the last three weeks, nothing over 1K views.
ReplyDeleteI’ll say it again : there is one person, under different names, who is trolling this site.
ReplyDeleteAnd there’s about a dozen on Reddit that just post under multiple sock accounts. A friend pointed out how he figured it out, and it’s hard to disagree with his reasoning.
ReplyDeleteI believe it's one person trolling not so much for "Team Ticket," but merely to drive the four maybe five "Anti Team Ticket" members insane.
DeleteAgreed for the most part. I'll go ahead and name names. BKHarmony, Jake, Sirois. and Sam Hale 1-hundo. TC, 98% positive. They and a few lackeys drive it. The they won, emoji man, weird sex talk, surrealist, wkrp troll is definitely all the same person.
DeleteWhich of those would have been the one that wove song lyrics into their posts? Some of those I understood and enjoyed.
DeleteThinking that one was totally different. Not a troll, just a bit. An internet eccentric.
DeleteIrene A (the only woman Holmes ever loved - who also bested him) and Gug get a gold star. Sexpertly done, my babies. Nailed it on both accounts like I nail all tha hot dudes and bitches.
DeleteRight now, everything kool.

DeleteWhile I'm at it, I'll add this: Calling commenters, "pal," "skippy," "chum," "chief" (yeah, I know, G Dunham likes that one), and the like -- it ain't exactly name-calling, but it's belittling and I dislike it a lot. It just got emoji booted.
ReplyDeleteCome to the cabaret, old chum, Come to the cabaret!

ReplyDeleteNow now, are we really that unoriginal, BK? Came outta hiding, did we. Big boy pants, on. Check!
DeleteI don’t particularly care for the Dumb Zone.
ReplyDeleteI question that if Dan and Jake died in a car wreck instead of doing a podcast if the blind, militant, culture war, belief that the Ticket can do no wrong would be so prevalent.
DeleteChris Arnold, Dale Hanson, and Rocco were all either Laddy or Bruce Gilbert decisions. Cat was still the producer of the original Hardline back then. Cat wasn't back as PD until well into the Bob and Dan days of the mid 00s.
DeleteDisagree on Bob making the HL worse. They had no other choice. Late Rhyner HL was really bad as Danny and Corby had to carry the show when Rhyner was disinterested or too busy worrying about his next Petty Theft performance. He lost his fastball a long time ago.
Cat had nothing to do with Rocco.
ReplyDeleteLaddie's "star."
DeleteCat IS Rocco
DeleteDude. Mind. Blown.

ReplyDeleteIt’s black and white thinking with them. Many of these people think the simple solution that cat should have done is promote the entire bad radio show to drive time. But they don’t know how stuff works. If you do that, you demote corby, in what world?
ReplyDeleteThe bin promotion ended up working out imo. With just Bob it was eh, but then they added Dave and now it’s a good show.
*Bob promotion
DeleteI’ve always kind of assumed BAD to PMD was Plan B.
Delete(They’re the top biller in the market, and DFW is their biggest market)
With Corby’s background as a yuk monkey, I think you have to replace MR with a sports heavy dude.
ReplyDeleteBravo, sir. On all points, bravo.
DeleteI am under good authority that all if not most of the negative comments towards Cat are from Sam Hale.
ReplyDeleteWho is Sam Hale?
DeleteFailed producer wannabe. Story I’ve heard is that he didn’t get Sirois’ job when he left and went scorched earth. Burned his bridges, burned the bridge repair equipment, even burned down the forest and the steel mill to prevent those being used in the repair.
DeleteC
Def in the 88-94% range.
DeleteWhat other ex ticket losers went scorched earth and burned every bridge as well?
DeleteMiami Griftet for $2000, Blossom.
DeleteTony the Engineer
DeleteEngineer is the key term. Doesn't count. Dan thought he was a Stern like flunky do anything for attention so I'll use him up until the bit runs dry casualty of content creation. Sirois followed by TC.
DeleteWhat other Stern like flunky losers are there that craved attention that are no where now? So many have come through and utterly failed
DeleteGiving specifics for a specific case. Got other ideas? Let us here from ya.
DeleteOne word: Fahy.
DeleteAs to Big Harry’s comment- as already stated, the quality went down when the guy who’d basically stopped participating in 3/4ths of the show stopped participating at all? Rhyner was being rightfully ripped in multiple fronts, I’ll believe you like MR over Bob, but Bob tries. He shows up.
ReplyDeletePt 2- while “you” may have quit listening after 25 years, yeah the almighty ratings aren’t reflecting that.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, there is a lot of stuff that just makes sense in these comments.
Jake was the one leading the charge to leave. He was not "going along".
DeleteI bet they thought he’d be butt hurt, but not butt hurt enough to leave a VERY successful station in a top 4 market.
ReplyDeleteTangent- anecdotally ive heard from more than a few people who are happy to top out their careers here, rather than try to go top 3.
Delete^^these sentiments are what I and others here who've been framed as "anti-Ticket" don't get. There seems to be vitriol or hurt feelings against Dan and Jake. That they have done something to personally harm you.
DeleteIt's been over 2 years.
DeleteAgain.
DeleteI'm also curious about your understanding of the term "vitriol." If you, please, be so kind as to point out your perceived vitriol. Indeed, the comment is pro-Dan. Thank you in advance.
Deletequesluv, my friend, neither Dan nor Jake are making anywhere near what they once did.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteShow the numbers. Jake? That you, again? C'mon liar man. Shiw the data. Oh. Like the Cat and Peter thing: doesn't exist. lol
DeleteRuh roh. Somebody's got a case of The Weirdly Invested Mondays!
Delete#TheyDontCare #RentFree #YouLost
Sam, thought we'd moved on from this nonsense. Damn, son. At least you're consistent.
DeleteAs recently as last year? Well as recently as last month he said he's back to making the same or more
ReplyDeleteDo you see how the pro-Ticket troll can't keep from making multiple posts to try to quash anything that is pro DZ or anti-Ticket? Every single time.
ReplyDelete"Again. These are the terms just about everyone is speaking in. Dan knows being an on-air personality best."
ReplyDeleteNo.
Deleteding.
Delete24/7 hours ago, I wanna see your data.
DeleteNothin' to lose, why won't ya show it? I wanna see your data.
DeleteI think the "Who led who" out of the ticket Dan vs. Jake is really just a combo of both of them. During their time at the ticket they were both in love with NBA empowerment movement. Thought it was great/funny. They applied it to their own life. The who won vs. who loss argument is stupid. They both lost.
ReplyDeleteHere is the deal.
ReplyDeleteCat and Pete: Winners
Anyone who left or was fired in the past 5 years or so: losers.
They won Sam. You lost. You are not good. You never were good. Sad.
ding.
Deletedong. lol Pssst. They don't see it.
DeleteGetting your pants pulled down in public is not winning. Being an errand boy is not winning.
Delete^ “they both lost” - my sentiments as well, but I would take it a step further. Everyone lost, most of all the listener. The Ticket used to be something special, far greater than the sum of its parts. That is gone.
ReplyDeleteThe Hang Zone was a better show than the Dumb Zone.
Agree with a lor if this, with a frw exceptions.
DeleteNot sure how so many here *know* what DbJ now earn.
Damn that first line is typo nightmare!
DeleteTo clarify a couple things - apparently Jake said on the Mom Game podcast recently that he’s now making the same, so that’s where that came from. Whether he’s being entirely truthful or is making the same as what he’d been offered for the new contract that he turned down, who knows.
DeleteAlso, I was referring to the ‘sticking it to his boss’ thing from what is apparently his perspective. From my standpoint he came off looking like a child, Cat’s management style notwithstanding.
Finally, fair point on the egregious use of the word objective. But I truly cannot imagine anyone honestly believing the current state of the Ticket is preferable to what came before.
I don't think anyone thinks middays are better but there are some things that I think about
Delete1) I never really liked middays much, so it's not a huge change for me lol
2) on WTDS you will hear people that email in saying Mino or Sean are their leader. So there are some fans out there.
I also agree with a lor if this. And I LOL’d at “they’re objectively worse here’s all my subjective opinions as to why”.
DeleteI agree that the sweet spot may be weaker than THZ, but a few thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHe asked for an increase in pay and got it. It was about being a drive time host and going up against, ideally THL. They were in on TF from its inception. Yes, they'd make money. But that wasn't the motivator.
DeletePlease provide the evidence that Dan and Jake were going to the Freak. If you can’t, you’re no better than bkbarmony on reddit
DeleteHard evidence, no. I'll readily admit to it. Circumstantial evidence, in spades.
DeleteCheckit - I never even mentioned them going to the freak?
DeleteIJB talks some more about Reddit/Cat/Ticket work environment etc in Ep 1155, around the 40min mark.
ReplyDeleteSome interesting pull-back-the-curtain nuggets, with less full T jakeZ.
But it does seem he's really enjoying all the s-talk about Cat&Pete.
When all talk is from one side of the equation, look for red flags.
DeleteJake is a loser who can’t accept that Cat and Pete are better people than he is or could ever be.
DeleteGog, would you ever call Jake a loser to his face? Of course not, because he would pummel you. So why do you think its cool to say it on here? Typical keyboard warrior.
DeleteI just listened to that episode and my main takeaway is that Jake’s self righteousness is truly exhausting. There is no end to it.
DeleteWould like to know if gog has the sack too. But tap the brakes on Bad Ass Jake. Helluva an assumption. Based on what? He took boxing lessons for a few months and knocked around that little twerp, Mike in D'ville.
DeleteEyez, I base it on the following:
Delete1) Jake has been in fights his whole life.
I think Jake might need to get a restraining order against you. Geez, dude. Don't gag on it.
DeleteTitally, fuck off dude. I wasn't talking to you. This is why this site sucks now, it's because of dipshits like you.
Deletelol
DeleteOdd one, Trixxx is for kids. Actually your boy het his shit rocked by a bruh no more than 5'10 outside a FW watering hole back in '16.!Points for Sex started it, other dude def finished it.
DeleteSounds like we found Jake’s burner account! Lol! Go back to your loser basement with all your reject friends! Have fun mopping floors in two years while Cat runs a successful radio station that you could never succeed at!

that all you got? giggle.
DeleteThe other comment from Ed that I agree with a lor if this, re TSS ratings.
ReplyDeleteC
A few thoughts on the TC/jake/cat controversy. TC was an intern who was by most accounts horrible on air, he got the job not because he was a talented ticker guy, but because he housesat for Dan and did a good job picking up their lunch order. When Catlin (rightly) saw that this guy had zero radio talent, he gave him zero chance to advance. As he should have.
ReplyDeleteThere is zero that comes out of TCs mouth that I put an ounce of stock on.
C
Yeah but TC said Cat was mean to underlings like Tony the Engineer and another one I forgot who though.
DeleteThe ch one other thing that just popped into my head- Russ used to rail against his PD, as did Howard. The Freak Crew started taking potshots at their PD towards the end and afterwards. The one specific I remember was MR being asked about no mixes between shows and his response was “someone doesn’t like it, we’ve been told to stop”.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the occasional clock over content joke I don’t hear a lot of shots at Catlin, except from Jake and TC. If I’ve forgotten something fill me in please
