A home for those who love almost everything about The Ticket (1310 AM, 96.7 FM, Dallas-Fort Worth), and who would like to discuss -- respectfully and fondly -- their thoughts on how (and whether) to eliminate the "almost."
No profound observations. I've been trying to listen to more of middays. Ratings aside, I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is that people don't like about Invasion/Sweet Spot.
I have long advanced the proposition that the addition of Justin Montemayor makes any show better. So sure, let's elevate his profile on SS and elsewhere.
Maybe I should try listening to the competition in those time slots to see if they're better. Pending that, I like both shows.
Do you find Sean and David's opinions insightful? Do you find them funny? You're wondering why other people DON'T like them but you haven't stated why you DO like them.
Why are you so invested? You seem like an absolute drag to be around. Why don't you first explain why you don't like them. Oh, wait. Forgot. That's a near daily exercise for you on this blog, and I'm sure elsewhere.
Go enjoy your pushing 60 year old I'm young like you whiner talk about his 'batin' routine and the other one who pretends to be an inner city tough, often speaks in a poorly executed East Coast accent even though he and his entire family were born and raised here, and who gets nearly everything wrong yet LARPS as Smartest Guy in Room. You have at it and be happy. No prob with it whatsoever. In return, let others enjoy what they want in peace. And stop acting like a demanding toddler.
Here's my guess: They are awesome guys with years of being known on The Ticket. My best guess is they're not very entertaining. I think Cat sees Sean as another Bob. Again, the best guys, just lacks the entertainment piece. Is that humor, HSOs, or something else? Not sure, but it's missing.
It seems the biggest complainers for all of the shows seems to be those who had rather hear pot jokes and fart drops vs anything sportsy. This has been the complaint about the Ticket from the "serious" sportsball fan from day one.
I guess it depends on what you want to listen to. A little good ole day syndrome mixed in with some current topics. The show he did with all the local team PBP announcers was pretty good.
Nothing personal against the guys hosting from 9-3 (McClarin seems like a weird dude) I just don't think they are very good. Very generic takes by the 9-1 boys. GXD is my favorite ticket personality. Love that dude. Smart and funny.
Well there's two since yesterday and to no one's surprise they are threads about how awful the Ticket is. Yet another one about a midday show that no one is forcing them to listen to yet they keep doing it.
Same person making 95% of the comments. Same one who does it here on all things Sweet Spot and McClearin. Aren't you, Blorfus_Maximus/WEB/et alia.
Are you a FAN intern trying to make a name for yourself, harping on middays because AM/PM drives are out of reach, thinking you're swaying P1s to try out The FAN? Or are you weirdly obsessed with Sean, Mino, and Matt? Are you a deluded DZ fanboy thinking you're on a "psyops mission" for The Boys? Or, are you a disgruntled former Ticket employee who cannot abide the fact you weren't deemed good enough to host by management and this is your comically sad attempt at "revenge"?
Because you like to ask others to answer for themselves, I think it only fair you do the same.
The Cowboys are not interesting they are irrelevant. Jerry Jones is not interesting he is a con man that only cares about making $. Winning means nothing. I know the ticket guys have to burn segments but Cowboy talk is a power drain. Schotty "benching" CD & Pickens for 3 plays means nothing. He ran it twice in order to shorten the series so he could get them back in the game ASAP. Cowboys are a joke.
I'd love to hear from the Gen Zers on here about what they think of the future of radio. If you're in the industry or seeking to enter, why? Like what do you foresee happening and where are we going? Podcasts are dominating, and I suspect the vast majority of Ticket listeners use the Sportsday app. I suspect TT will keep cruising because of its profitability, but how will it evolve? That's why I'm so interested in the Muser's podcast. Is this some form of trial for a wholesale swap? I like TT personalities, and love the control of a podcast. The Top 10 is too unwieldy for my Apple account. I don't like how it dominates my feed, so I don't subscribe to it. But anyway, those are my thoughts. Gen Z, what say you?!
Allow me to cut through the crap and give you what you seek - truth be damned: The Ticket, along with terrestrial radio as a whole, is on the verge of collapse. Conversely, The Dumb Zone and Cirque du Sirois are skyrocketing in popularity and earnings. Happy?
Agree terrestrial radio is going the way of the dodo. It won’t disappear, but it has the same issues as all legacy media, like newspapers & cable television. Current economic model is unsustainable.
While podcasting as an industry is growing, that doesn’t mean every (or any particular) podcast is prime for great individual success

Won't see March. Last legs. Milk's soured. Well's run dry. Honeymoon's over. Subbies stagnate approaching two years. Pay to play local tv slot coming to an end. Backers backing out barring miraculous turnaround.
Caught the rather bombastic, comically puerile comment before it was deleted. It's true middays aren't peak BaD greatness anymore. But those days ended now a bit over half a decade ago. Blame Cat all you want, but the real culprit was Rhyner and his faux Irish Goodbye all the while putting The Freak into motion. While you're at it, don't forget Sirois, Danny, and Julie's role in it. And then there's Dan and Jake. They are the genesis of where things are, not Cat. You may not like Cat's personnel decisions, fine, fair play. In truth, I'm not sure all his moves were the right ones. But those decisions were made because they were thrust upon him. And they were thrust upon him because of decisions made by the aforementioned names. Those are the ones who started the avalanche that perpetually upsets so many of you. Yet, oddly enough, they receive no blame. In fact, it's quite the opposite. You bought into their collective and individual, self-serving narratives hook, line, and sinker. Never once questioning them. Never once saying, "Hmmm, that part of the story doesn't align." No. You fell right into line with the Us v Them / Corporate v Little Guy / Management v Worker trope. You bit, and you bit hard.
So yeah, while you're not wrong that middays aren't what they used to be. And you're also not wrong about questioning some of Cat's personnel decisions. You get it about as wrong as you possibly can when it comes to assigning blame.
To head it off at the pass: I'm in no way saying these people are bad actors. Nor am I saying it wasn't they're right to do what they did and act in a way they judged to be in their best interest. I'm merely saying it was because of their decisions and actions that TT is now in a state that so very much upsets so very many of you.
By what metric is Cat bad at his job? Your personal taste? Your failure to be promoted to a host position? Look at the station's success. YOU may not like it/Cat, but in no world, in no rational mind does does the almost unprecedented success of TT equate "bad job." Weird stuff, bruh.
