More Predictions, and the Best Christmas Ever to the Confessor Faithful

We got a little off of duckandcover's predictions with the last thread.    I posted the following as comments to the previous post, but a fan of the site has asked me to post it.

Hey, thanks for your continued support of My Ticket Confession.  Tell a friend, it makes a lovely Christmas gift.

Here goes:

(1)   Michael Gruber, Dirk Nowitzki, Brian Cuban, and Weekend Tickerman Mitchell Kerasik will form a consortium and purchase The Ticket from Cumulus for an undisclosed sum and a ham sandwich.  Grubes will assume control over station management and will permanently reassign Jeff Catlin to oversee the constant replenishment of BaD’s and Norm’s stable of interns.

(2)  Gordon will permanently lose all of his endorsements when he blurts out that he’s never actually been to Raising Cane’s.

(3)  Sometime in late spring or early summer, an episode of “What’s on Mike’s Mind” will air without Mike uttering a single syllable.

(4)  Cumulus will announce that it’s working on improving The Ticket’s signal.

(5)  Corby will join the professional marathon circuit.  Will run into trouble with his first urine test when he tests negative for urine.

(6)  Richie Whitt will modestly admit that yes, it’s true, he’s dating Megan Fox’s cuter sister.

(7)  The Hardline will take a call.

(8)  The International System of Units will announce that the frequency of the sound of Bob Sturm’s voice has been determined to vary so little from high to low that it will replace the caesium-133 radiation cycles as the basis for the atomic clock upon which modern timekeeping is based.  When informed of this, Bob will say:  “Awesome.”

(9)  The fragile edifice of host solidarity will begin to crumble when one of them casually mentions that he’s considering non-renewing his endorsement deal with All-Pro Foundation Repair to pursue other interests.

(10)  Craig "Junior" Miller will tragically violate Johnny Carson's "Comedy Rule of One Too Many" when, incorrectly perceiving that his self-nickname "The Joonz" has achieved widespread humor acceptance, he further shortens it to "the Joo" and is hounded off the air by the Anti-Defamation League.

(11)  George Dunham will drop his opposition to fracking when the largest self-contained source of domestic methane is discovered under his vast real estate holdings in East Jeebus or wherever the hell it is he's moved off to, which BP geologists will name "the Jub Outgassing" in his honor.

(12)  Outraged P1's will finally have had enough and will dognap SweetJack and haul him off to Man's Best Friend, where his irrepressibly cheerful bargain-flogging will result in his severe mauling by a pack of previously docile six-toed Norwegian lundehunds.

(13)  Craig Rosengarden will kick George DiGianni’s ass.

  1. I'm pulling for #13 with all my heart.

Thanks for another year of STDs, Plainsman. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your'n.

  2. Merry Christmas, Happy New Years to Plainsman and all fellow Confessors.

  3. Have a great one, everybody!

I have one more prediction: Due to a purging of CTOs by the Dickey brothers, Cat Man of the Americas is let go. And he's quickly snatched up by Bruce Gilbert and CBS, thereby making The FAN even more Ticket-ish.

Would love to see #13 happen! Here's to a helluva 2013! And people, let's make STDs, not contract them...be careful out there this holiday season...the ladies of commerce are tempting, but trust me, they're not worth the trouble.

Alright, as you all can tell I've already hit the eggnog. So I'm signing off.

    Merry Christmas!

  5. I'm thinking about starting up MGDACRC (My George DiGianni And Craig Rosengardern Confession). Anyone interested in such a site? It'll be much like this one, except we only discuss GD and CR.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'd stop by MGDACRC every now and again. That is, if I thought you were serious. Speaking of Rosen Rosen, the boys over at The UnTicket have posted up montages of Norm's and Rosengarden's 2012 e-brakes. One word: IMPRESSIVE!

Looking forward to another year of Ticket greatness. A happy New Year to all MTCers.

  7. Well, Plainsman, I take it that you'll be bidding on the win a date with MaSS prize tomorrow?

Excited to hear PM Drive Dan today.

More McClearin creepiness today. Yeesh. How many times can one man give so many the heebie Jeebies in one afternoon? Evidently, an endless amount of times.

  8. My Christmas present to the Confessors.

Greggo blowing up when he is getting pranked.

  9. So we're getting 6-7 hours of Donnie today. That's too much of any one host. Agreed, ausgang, McClearin's a tad frightening. Honest about himself, no doubt, but still, frightening.

I dig Dan without Bob. Just like I prefer Bob without Dan. It shows how good they are. That they can put on a great show for all these years when they aren't a very good pairing speaks a lot to their quality. Neither one needs a co host.

I'm so glad that all vacations and dry dock are now staggered. Back in the old days (and before they had a summer dry dock and various other vacation times), dry dock was damn near three weeks. Every show took off and returned at the same time. What was worse, you'd get a lot of the national feed (back then, Sporting News Radio). The only subs were weekenders like Elf, and there weren't many of those back then like there are now. Dry dock is a lot easier to stomach nowadays. I think they started staggering all vacations once FOX (remember their station?) and ESPN went on the air. Whatever the case, I'm thankful for the way things are now.

Here's an open question: I follow Grubes on Twitter and I've noticed that many of his Tweets lately are about FSSW. Then I hear a reference to him working there on WTDS. Does anyone know the story? Is Grubes working for FSSW, and if so, in what capacity? I thought he went back to school, full time, to finish his degree.

  10. @ East Texas P1

Thanks for the link. That was some good stuff and Classic Greggo as I know him...an F dropping machine.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks to East Texas P1, I can now no longer say I haven't listened to more than 10 minutes of Greggo and Ritchie Witt. Now I'm up to almost 20.

I have empathy for Greggo's past problems. And I appreciate that he is a drop machine, only second to Norm.

But I just don't enjoy him anymore. That bit was a good example. Just not really funny. Just another "Ticket wannabe" bit that reeks of Russ Martin.

    Good mornin' to ya.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Anon 3:57 I think Grubes mentioned last time he was on with the Hardline that he does some part-time audio work for FSSW.

  14. Thanks for the update, Grubes. Glad to hear all is well.

@MLW I no longer get Greggo either. I don't get a guy who now goes out of his way to make a spectacle of himself by dressing up like a Burt Sugar, Don Cherry,
    Craig Sager, wannabe.

  15. Hope you all had a fine Christmas and are looking forward to a sober, reflective, philosophical New Year's Eve.

Hasn't Greg always had the reputation as a colorful dresser?

  16. I'm gonna fix it, I'm gonna fix itDecember 27, 2012 at 11:33 AM

Not really. It's been a part of his FAN/self remake. And have you ever read his blog on the CBS/FAN site? Think Blackie Sherrod's "Scattershooting" columns, except if Blackie had been a ding dong.

Speaking of The FAN, I guess come Tuesday we'll see what if anything goes down. After all, there have been many predictions here over the past year that due to the CBS/Cumulus partnering, The FAN would see major changes. Personally, I doubt it.

My predictions for 2013: The Ticket continues to dominate, The FAN continues to poach from The Ticket (I say in the form of a Ticker man or two...offered host positions...thinking Ty Walker and Mike Machine Marshall) and stays in business, ESPN keeps fiddling with its midday/2 hrs prior to GAC lineup, and the Plainsman identity is revealed by means of a Twitter photo taken at one of the remotes he attends...and once revealed, we're a bit taken aback by his true identity. Let's just say, "Insider" would be a more apt handle than "Plainsman." Out.

    ReplyDelete
  17. There no chance that any part of that prank was authentic. Poorly scripted and even more poorly performed.

  19. @igfigf

Good predictions, sans the last one. If Plainsman's an insider of sorts, then why would he be at a remote? And if he's an insider from another station or some other aspect of the industry, don't you think, at the very least, Mike R would know who he is when he pops up at remotes?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I assume that The Ticket is about to get a friendly phone call and a nice fine from the FCC. Seeing how they just played an excerpt from some Pacino movie that included the word "shit." I would also think that Jake or whatever idiot let that play will get a call/have a meeting with Cat or Dan Bennett. Pretty stupid move.

    ReplyDelete
  21. They play the Pacino speech from Any Given Sunday all the time. Was it not edited?

    ReplyDelete
  22. atlanta rhythm sectionDecember 27, 2012 at 7:31 PM

I heard that too. Nope, it wasn't edited. Looked at my Twitter timeline and saw where Bob Tweeted "oops" during the time it was being played. Hopefully the shit doesn't hit the fan (pun intended!) for this screw up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. this is no big deal

    ReplyDelete
  24. I still like the Hammer. It's Richie that sucks really bad. I think the K & C Masterpiece guys got a little something.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nope, not an insider.

As this site has gained more readers and even very minor attention at The Ticket, one thing I've wanted to ensure is that my anonymity doesn't get too creepy. The one thing I don't want to happen is to be perceived as some kind of cyberstalker or Man of Mystery at remotes. (I bought those raffle tickets never imagining I'd win, much less three times, much less the grand prize. And, of course, I made things creepier by mentioning that it was me that won them in these very pages. So -- regrettable editorial judgment on my part.)

Also -- frankly, while the JV may have some interest in what this site and thoughtful Confessors have to say about them, the hosts and CTO probably do not. They've done pretty well without the benefit of sites like this one. There is no reason anyone of influence at The Ticket would have the slightest interest in who I am or who any of you are.

To repeat: Other than this site, my radio experience is limited to sending a couple dozen parody songs and station intros to the Brandmeier morning show on WLUP in Chicago under the band name Lower Wacker Overdrive ("Got a Black Magic Johnson"), and looking briefly into assembling a group to purchase a small radio station a few years ago. Nothing came of it. Still true that I have never met or even spoken to a Ticket employee or representative of any kind(other than raffle-flogging Ticket Chicks), and back-channel communications from Ticket guys are extremely rare and, in fact, have dwindled to zero over the past six months or so.

However, the predictions are all interesting, so please keep them up. I'm tied up a bit over the holidays and I'm going to have some absences in January (I will miss TicketStock entirely) and February, so please keep things lively, if respectful, here at the joint. I'll try to freshen up the threads even if I can't post anything new. Jeez, I see I have several by-now somewhat stale posts in the hopper -- I may trot them out even though they're no longer timely, will try to give fair warning.

A Happy Normathon to each of you.

  26. Have not heard K&C Masterpiece. Possible Muser competition? Anyone?

  27. I agree wholeheartedly with Shaggy on the "prank." It was the door-slamming sound that made me realize that wasn't real.

  28. i'm gonna fix it, I'm gonna fix itDecember 28, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Didn't mean to touch a hot button issue or sore spot with you Plainsman. I was just having some predictive fun times, good times.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @i'm gonna: No problem at all, I took your "prediction" as a jest and actually as rather flattering, if you think this site shows the acuity that only an insider could offer.

Since the site has really mushroomed this year in terms of traffic, the issue of anonymity has been on my mind lately, so I took that opportunity to ramble a bit. Everyone bemoans the Internet's ability to mask the author of unfair attacks through anonymity, but no one does much about it. I don't want to contribute to that social ill, so my solution to date has been to try to keep the site balanced, fair, fact-based (unless speculation is specifically identified), and civil.

I'm not sure that's enough, at least for my own conscience. The site does sometime take shots, and it seems kinda low not to be willing to stand up and be identified with those positions. Not sure why I feel that way -- the opinion is either supported or it isn't, irrespective of who I might happen to be. So I go back and forth about the anonymity thing; haven't really worked it out to my own satisfaction yet.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This is one of the few blogs with comboxes I regularly visit that still allow Anonymous comments. Sure, anyone can make up a dummy email account and post anonymously but with a name (excepting maybe 3 posters here, we all do this, host included). But most people are honest about it. The ones that aren't are the trolls who never would be in the first place. It's kind of like someone intent on doing evil: they're going to do it no mater what barriers you put in place. I for one have no problem if that's the route you eventually take. Besides, excepting the one Anon troll who seems to attack in starts and fits, then goes away for a while, there are very few uncivil, thoughtless commenters here. Especially with us regulars. And after all, we are the ones who make the overwhelming majority of comments/sustain threads. I think it's the reason why the likes of Grubes, KT, Harrison, Jake, and even Cat (I know I'm forgetting several others) not only read this blog, but also make comments. It is respectful. Critical, perhaps too analytical, even on Pluto at times? Yes. But always respectful, articulate, and well-meaning. Those who aren't are quickly escorted off the premises. While I agree with you, Plainsman, that the main hosts and the CTOs don't turn to this site for advice or anything of the sort, I do believe that all of them peruse it from time to time; I think it's evident in some of the asides that are said on-air.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry. I didn't mean that most of us, Plainsman included, make up dummy accounts; I meant that we make up handles; handles which, in essence, are no different than posting as Anonymous.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Really interesting interview with Donnie. I had no idea about Donnie's radio/sports bona fides. Great stuff. Especially his admitting that he was kind of forced onto Bob and Dan, and that it wasn't so easy at first.

  33. Listening Too Hard: The Massey Cadillac guy sounds exactly like the Big and Tall Men's Depot (can't think the exact name of the sponsor) guy.

I'm sure Crest Cadillac really likes it that The Ticekt sells Massey Cadillac ads to run during Crest Teebox remotes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Speaking of which, since all three of us are working this morning, I would like to wish a very Happy New Year to Rick Arnett and Craig Rosengarden, and to convey my ardent wish for 2013 that the CTO authorizes an upgrade in the audio hardware they use for Crest remotes.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think The Teebox has to use their own equipment for remotes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Masterpiece is a weekend show filling in for Rage. They are local guys East Dallas and Garland products who have a little something. One sounds like Corby the other sounds like Georgio. Good chemistry. Think they're filling in through next week. Nothing close to Musers but they are young.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Like the Cowboys, expectations for my HSOs are low. So, in the minutes before kickoff, I will bury one here.

I have been unimpressed by the Cowboys' recent run. They don't quit -- fine. That's a pretty tiny accomplishment for a collection of professional atheletes (although we have seen Cowboys teams quit on more than one occasion within the past few years). We still see guys lining up wrong, running wrong routes (I agree with David Newbury that they've cured Dez by giving him one play -- "go long"), untimely turnovers, untimely penalties, too-many-not-enough-or-wrong guys on the field, perverse play-calling and clock management.

I think the Redskins are going to run them.

I haven't heard anyone suggest a reason for a result varying materially from the one we got a month ago. I've been astonished by Bob's and David Moore's (admittedly cautious) optimism.

What's the Cowboys record on Sunday nights? On the road?

I want the Cowboys to be in the playoffs and to keep the fun going, mainly for the heated Ticket commentary. So I'll be in there rooting for a 'Pokes victory. But I'd be lying if I tried to convince you there weren't a part of me that doesn't want Jerry Jones rewarded for some of the borscht he's put on the field, even pre-injuries. (Let me tell you how cynical I am about this administration and team -- I'm not convinced these injuries are just an unfortunate coincidence.)

So there you go. I hope I'm wrong.

    Go Cowboys.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with you about JJ getting rewarded for mediocrity. I'm a diehard Cowboy fan, but I want the GM to maybe see things ain't that great on the O and D lines. That's his fault. For that, I'll go with the Boys not making the playoffs because I know that hurts the old man the most. No one's talking about them now.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks for the kind words about my words, Plainsman.

What a cruddy game for us Cowboy fans. Oh well, what else is new? Romo and the team craters when something is truly on the line, and especially when the game is played in the national, prime time, big time spotlight.

Has anyone noticed the latest Ticket New Year's resolutions promo? It has a line about "sucking less often." Is that a dig at The FAN? If so, how so? It seems like it's more of a mistake; as if they forgot that that is the FAN's motto. I find it more than puzzling. Also the new Sweet Jack ad telling us how we download the song for ringtones, how it's ear candy, etc., drives me every bit as nuts as the ad itself proper does. Ugh. Obviously, Sweet Jack isn't going anywhere in 2013.

Everyone have a safe and happy New Year.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I checked out The Masterpiece. Eh. Meh.

  41. Josh Lewin and Mike Basik are on the Fan this morning. They are great together. I wish the ticket would bring Basik back and plug him in somewhere as an on air contributor. He definitely is worth listening to.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Agreed. Love to see Bacsik back at The Ticket. He and Josh are great together, though. If they were a regular pair, airing during this time (10-12), I'd listen to them over Norm every single day.

  44. Well folks, it's Jan 1 and guess what? The FAN is still with us, there's no Ticket signal swap, and no Ticket take over of the FAN. I was kinda hoping for some New Year's radio chaos to shake things up. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Been listening to the K&C Masterpiece show on The FAN. No offense to the 12/30 6:52 Anon, but what exactly do you see in them? They act like a Ben and Skin starter kit, and their HSOs are those of an un-sports-educated fan. I'm not sure how they got a job doing what they do, to be honest with you. I agree with those who extol the greatness of Josh and Mike B. They were excellent. I wish they had a regular show. It would be the first show I'd actually turn my dial from The Ticket in order to listen to. In fact, I'd listen to them over both Norm and The Hardline. And if they went up against BaD, I'd be switching back and forth, depending on topic that was being discussed by each show. I think they're THAT good. But wouldn't you know, the only good program The FAN has is the one they can't have on a regular basis (due to Josh's Mets and Chargers duties). Leave it to The FAN to screw up even their successes!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree duckandcover. The only show I wouldn't turn the dial on to hear Basik and Lewin is D&M. I think eventually the Fan will realize what they have in Basik and offer him a show with someone to replace one of the many spares they have.

Cumulus/The Ticket overreacted on the Bacsik fiasco. Yes, what he drunkenly Tweeted was wrong and stupid. But he owned up to it (unlike JJT's wyngz and lovin' good times Tweet...JJT, by the way, is one of the biggest a wipes in the market), apologized, and shut up. They should've let things cool down, suspended him indefinitely, and then a few months later gradually and quietly brought him back into the fold. I really miss his insider perspective and his white hot sports opinions. If The FAIL has any sense, and that's debatable, they'll find a permanent, prime time, hosting job. But boy I'd sure like to see him back at The Ticket one day.

  48. re: Jan 1 1310/The Fan shakeup - What? You mean another doomsday prediction didn't come true? Shocked, I tell you. Shocked.

  49. C'mon, Whitt, isn't enough that you have a radio show, are on a tv show nightly, and have a CBS blog? Why do you feel the need to post on this little old blog?

    ReplyDelete
  50. @duck I might be a little biased because the guys from the Masterpiece are friends of mine. I listen to all the stations, P1 since 99, but was happy to see friends of mine get a weekend radio show. Funny you say that about the B&S Starter kit, was told Friedo actually found these guys when Cory was an intern for B&S, and wanted to groom them on the weekends there. I'd say give them a couple more chances, and wouldn't compare them to anybody who has been around for a while, they are barely in their second year. Either way can't be worse than all the other stuff The FAN is putting out. Word is TC worked for them before he came to the little one.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Anon 10:11
Thanks for the info on The K&C Masterpiece. I understand; you're supporting your friends. I'd do the same thing. If I have get the chance, I'll certainly give them another listen. But in truth, I'm not sure how much better I'll find them. Especially now that The Ticket regulars are back (it's easier to find something lesser to be better than it is when what it's being compared to is lesser, still).

I'm very glad that dry dock is over!

  52. Prepare for Scott Ferrell on the Bench from 9pm-12mid from now on on the ticket.

  53. No Scott Ferrell tonight. But the Sweet Jack campaign (same damn song) is up and running again as if it were brand new.

  54. Always liked Bacsik. Readers may recall that just before his termination, I threw out the suggestion of a role for him on The Hardline. (http://myticketconfession.blogspot.com/2010/02/modest-proposal-for-hardline-part-4.html)

But I also recall that there was some animosity towards him at the station before his ill-advised Tweet. Junior was very unhappy at his side-switching in a Great Game and blackballed him from the next year's contest (according to accounts). I seem to recall having some intimations that he may not have been a popular figure at The Channel even aside from that.

Anyway, I liked the Josh/Bacsik program, too. I'm with those who would like to see him return, but I believe it is not ever going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  55. If Basik doesn't return to the Ticket I will definitely tune in wherever he is to catch his show.
