The Ticket Won't Likely Have Much More to Say About that "Domestic Violence" Sign at the Oddly Plural Scruffy Duffies . . .

.  .  .  because, incredibly, it is still running that "I miss you, baby -- but my aim is getting better" Conrad promo.

  1. This being a hot-button topic, the Confessor is reminded to keep comments civil. No name-calling, no imputation of base motives, room-temp IQ, or loathsome disease.

  2. The Ticket also has a history of promotion and cross-promotion with SD so they'll probably avoid having too many HSOs about it. Not that any of the varsity shows would bring it up outside CQH or Muse; it's just not in their major area of concern.

  3. I missed the whole San Antonio / Bob / Billy Whatever feud deal. Anyone care to fill me in or let me know the dates when this was discussed so that I can look them up on Unticket? Thanks kindly.

  4. so anonymous:

on his twitter, he said he's "back in Texas"..
so, are you saying he will be back working at the ticket?

    ReplyDelete
  5. So if the Ticket runs an ad or a promo that I find offensive, I can contact Cat or Dan Bennett and have it removed? And if they don't Cumulus will make sure that they get fired?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Might want to run that question by Mike Bacsik.

Answer is: If enough people call or email, you can be pretty sure that some of them are calling and emailing sponsors. Enough of those -- you'll see Bennett and Catlin spring into action before Lew Dickey's name pops up on their caller ID.

No interest group has felt so moved with respect to Ticket matters (since Bacsik). The women and other interest groups who listen to The Ticket pretty much know what they're going to get, and while you can walk out of a bar just like you can change your radio's channel, The Ticket broadcasting into your buds or car doesn't have the same impact as a display in a crowded public place where someone might feel a compulsion to do something that they wouldn't feel listening solo to a radio show.

    Just a theory.

  7. Here's something interesting that doesn't happen too often at this site. Never, to the best of my recollection.

Way back in 2012, I wrote a column that said some skeptical and some nice things about George DiGianni's Train Station Fitness Show airing on The Ticket at 7 am on Saturday mornings.

George D today submitted a very philosophical comment to that post. You might find it of interest. Post and comments are here:

Thanks to George for checking in.

Who cares? Good for TC, I guess. Is he even back? Who's the big time local sports name that is about to be unemployed you spoke of last week?

    @The DiGianni comment
Well, that was one weird and yet utterly, uniquely, George-esque "ramblance." Two years after the fact he makes a comment. And, mind you, that there are several GD specific threads before and after that particular thread. Yet, still, GD, again, two years after the fact decides to weigh in. Uh, wow. I say "ramblance" in that it resembles a rant but is not quite a rant. Stoicism and Buddhism. From listening to GD's show (as I do every Saturday), that makes sense (never a hint toward the transcendent, always about the "moment"; alway black and white---the former = Bud, the latter, Sto). Weird guy. More times than not, weird show. Weird interactions with his guests. But always informative. Weirdo GD is, he's right about one thing for sure: the guy IMO truly cares about others and wants to help. For that, I'm a fan. Thanks, George DiGianni.

@Scruffy Duffle Bag and Lefties and Righties
We're living in a time where Error Has No Right. Understand? If you don't, the little nugget under consideration ought to do the trick. Now add that to the Sterling and Cuban equation, multiply it by 8 and start tacking on exponentials. That's where we're heading. This sort of thing is old hat in most of the EU (including GB). Bottom line: You can't be all inclusive and OT (eye for an eye) in the same breath. Law of non-contradiction and "stuff." So either Error Has A Right or it doesn't. If it doesn't, who decides it doesn't and what is to be done (to quote Lenin)? What was that old text by MacIntyre? Oh yeah, "Whose Justice? Which Rationality?" Anyway……

    @Corby and Danny
Corby who made a cottage industry out of humiliating women he used to date/sleep with on air for comedic--i.e., furthering his career (e.g., the "tuna smell" story oil heiress among others) and Danny whose "Trail of Tears" vis-a-vis local ladies and the way they'e been, ah, "let go" is rather well known in the bar circles……both are now budding feminists, bearers of gender equality? OK. And DiGianni has just issued a manifesto claiming a diet of strictly saturated fats is the key to longevity.

    @Shaggy
    At Shaggy.

    @Wes
JV was solid until TSJ decided to bare their ass by having some band they want to be friends with/be a part of "the scene" that really isn't a scene. Too bad, because they were doing a fine job--misapplied statistical/economics terms/concepts and all.

  10. I'm trying to imagine 314 sitting up, thinking, "I can't sleep. What should I do?"

314, I hope MTC provides some comfort, as Frank would say, "in the wee small hours of the morning."

    ReplyDelete
  11. George and Craig just had a pretty good segment on purple/not purple. Although it's been explained before, good, informative segment.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anybody else notice how THL has been on time with their breaks around E-News? Usually it would start at around 4:41 and end at 4:55 and then their 5:00 segment would be an immediate throwaway topic to lead into their exciting 5:10 segment.

Complaints from higher up about clock management? Getting more content in and trying to compete with the FAN's 2-minute segment? Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm a huge TSJ fan but I didn't get the band segment either. That's clearly not Jake's taste in music so I'm guessing it wasn't his idea. Sean mentioned something about them conversing on Twitter so I looked at their timelines and Sean must have sent them a DM but they tweeted out, "sorry can't respond b/c you don't follow us." So it wasn't a band that even Sean Bass was totally in love with either.

    Didn't get it at all.

  14. I think 314 might be the Dennis Miller of the MTC com boxes! Holy moly, that was a tour de force! An all nighter involving Colombia's most expensive and illegal export? No offense, and I pre say that I mean no offense when I say this, but I'd hate to be trapped in an elevator with you.

If anyone is looking for consistency in Danny, Corby, or The Ticket in general, you need to go elsewhere to find your sports talk.

I am with 315 on the T.C. thing. Who really cares anymore? If he's back, good for him, if not, so what. And I mean no offense when I pre say I mean no offense on this one either, but the guy was a bit player, a JV, replaceable and forgettable. After nearly 20 years Rich Phillips is gone. It took all of what, a week?, before it was as if he never existed. Rich actually was important to the station. T.C., not so much. Unless you want to count the fuh fuh fuh punchline "cool guys" like Corby turned him into. Personally, I don't.

  15. @3:14/5/29@Charles Golden
I'm not a fan of TSJ's in studio band segments either, but I'm also not going to impute motive onto either Jake or Sean. They're obviously into the local music scene--at least a certain genre of the scene. It seems like they want to share their excitement over it with the listeners. While, again, I'm not interested in the segments (not my musical taste and the Chris Farley aspect of it puts me off), I think they're appealing to what I'm guessing is the majority of their listeners--i.e., 20 to early 30 somethings who have likeminded musical tastes. I don't fault them for it. I certainly don't (cynically) think anything fishy or poseur-ish is going on.

To all: The DiGianni comment coming two years after the fact is a head scratcher. I wonder if he was doing a self-Google search, hit upon the thread, and decided to reply--not grasping the fact that the thread was two years old? Other than that, I don't understand why he would do such a thing. The comment itself was thoughtful, though.

I agree with the "enough of the TC news" crowd. By this point, does it really matter? Did it ever? Let's face it, if he hadn't have made his firing public via Twitter, we probably would've never known. But like, so it seems, most things TC does and thinks, he likes to air them out for all to see. 11:26/5/29's thoughts on Rich's importance, exit, and subsequent impact are spot on. I would add that you also don't hear about Rich by way of Rich. There's a reason why a guy like Rich is where he is and why a guy like. . . . Now here I go rambling on about the very subject I feel needs to be put to bed, no matter the "update"!

The Scruffy Duffies "controversy" is on one hand simple, and on the other, complicated. There have been good points all around concerning it. As some have said, this very well might be a portent as to where things are heading with respect to free speech and, in conjunction, thought. I also agree that it is rather rich for Corby of all people to take the stance he has (h/t to 3:14/5/29 who rightly points this out and why). But there is also the fact that there is such a thing as going too far, such a thing as having taste, and such a thing as understanding the Zeitgeist.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I found the body odor discussion offensive. Those people didn't deserve to be talked about that way.

Somebody needs to be fired for letting that segment air.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I can confirm TC is back at the Ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, 5:47, absolutely. I think you should go up to the Mother Ship right now and demand someone be held accountable. And you should stay there until you get justice. Go. Hurry. We're all counting on you.

  22. I love that The Ticket guys are finally sick of The Fail ripping off their bits. I hope they were serious about declaring war. IMO, it's long overdue. And it'll make for better shows and entertaining listening.

I think the thing that's forgotten in this talk is Bruce Gilbert used to be the PD at The Ticket. He is now PD at The Fail. My guess is he thinks he can use the same formula with whatever "talent" they have over there, and he feels he has a right to steal Ticket bits, since he was their PD.

    I'll hang up and listen

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Bruce Gilbert left the fail a while back. The new pd is Gavin Spittle.

  33. The irony is that The Fan is enjoying every minute of the attention they seem to be getting from The Ticket, and the apoplexy which they seem to be inducing.

I find the notice The Ticket has been giving The Fan a little curious, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Were you listening to the penultimate GNO roundtable last night? They laid it out pretty clearly - the competing station in the same market is flat-out stealing long-established bits/segments. They've taken the high road, but they're sick of it.

And in case you're not aware, Gay-Not-Gay (Man Card), e-Brake (Stop Down - at the same day and time, even), Fake Jerry (yes, The Fail does it, as well), and more.

And the discussion was initiated because there was a plant from The Fail in the audience who Corby talked to during wireless.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, and after the segment KT tweeted some nonsense about "high" road and got called out by Jake. I've always liked KT, and didn't begrudge him taking a good opportunity in the business he wants to be in, but I'm beginning to believe he's a liar and a jerk who does a really good "Who me!?" act.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't forget BS do "what is good about today"

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, that and of course, the whole "Flip Off" copied directly from Summer Bash - down to the venue, having hosts perform songs, and even having a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band. It's gotten to the point of ridiculousness.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you think the FAIL would be doing this as a huge bit and just see how pissed off they can make the older brother? Like create a TON of "rip-off" segments and bits and change them just slightly enough to drive the P1's crazy?

Could they be that ironic or just plain stupid and unoriginal?

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Anon 12:45

What was KT lying about? Curious because I would get a little angry if someone posted something about me on the internet without details or proof. All I'm saying is if you write it, at the same time fill in the blanks. We don't want any flaming going on because KT visits this site and will probably be more than a little ticked.

  41. I'm not a Fan hater, I'm Fan-indifferent. What they're doing over there means as much to me as what's going on at any of the Spanish or country stations. If one of the Tejano stations has a segment called "Por que hoy no es malo" or The Wolf breaks out "Commie/ain't no commie", that's fine for them. They may or may not have gotten the idea from people who may or may not have gotten the idea from someone else, but it means nothing to me because I don't want to partake of their particular fare.

I understand the strong, loyal, dirty fandom that The Ticket has developed, but I don't get the Fan hatred. They're trying to do what The Ticket does, but they don't even come close. They might one day find their own voice, and I may find a reason to listen to them, but for now, what does it even matter? If you don't like what they're doing, ignore them. Why are people so worked up about Fan remotes and Sneaky Pete's and how many people go to their remotes?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, alrighty then. Now maybe I'll be taken a bit more seriously. Been telling you folks for a while now I have an impeccable inside source at The FAIL. Been telling you KT's presence here is absolutely by design. How there are several anons that are FAIL employees. There is one in particular that is of interest: Gavin Spittle. Yep, the PD. Hiya, Gavbo. I know you'll be reading this, so I thought I'd give you a "shout out." There are also more than a few hosts who have made their presence known here at MTC of late. Another "hiya" to J. Cavanaugh. Do B&S, the to this day still good buds with so many Ticket hosts know about these shenanigans? You bet they do. Are they in the least bit embarrassed by Spittle's trying to do here what he did in Houston? Not in the least.

So for all of you who've recently been wondering aloud why KT keeps popping up here and what does he get out of it and if there's some sort of directive, you now have an answer. Of course there is.

Oh, and why, pray tell, would The FAIL mess around with MTC? Because, and this is a testament to you commenters and to Plainsman, they know the CTO and Ticket personnel DO pay attention to MTC.

    ReplyDelete
  43. P1Dan: Please see Gavin Spittle's handiwork in Houston. This is no bit. It's what he does.

  44. After listening to an excellent BaD segment in which they unfortunately slaughtered the pronunciation of the Silver State I thought I would provide a tutorial to all those who have never traveled to the Rockies or western US:

Ne VAD a. The VAD rhymes with MAD, SAD, HAD, BAD etc..

Nevada I no more pronounced Nu VOD a than Texas is pronounced Tay Haws.

  47. @Anon 232 your cockiness is off-putting to say the least. There is no, I repeat NO directive for me to comment on here. Get real. I do it because i've been commenting here for 3 years, and sometimes it's useful for me to clear up some things.

As far as everything else goes, I didn't hear the roundtable segment but I was bombarded by text messages with people asking me if I had heard it. I was in the middle of an intense jog around The Village. I was given cliff's notes though. As far as I know, no shots were fired at the show I work on.

  49. KT, I'm going to say to you what I said to Sean Bass a while back:

If you're going to try to respond to every comment that ruffles you or otherwise sounds unfair, you're going to find yourself REALLY busy. Sooner or later you will give up, so save yourself a little grief and give up now.

Right or wrong, fair or not, it's best to just ignore it.

Every once in awhile I get an all-numeric (read: easy) CAPTCHA. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Regarding the captcha, I'm starting to think it knows when you're in a certain location because when I'm at home on my phone I get like 4 numbers. When I'm at work I get like 2 sets of numbers. Once in a blue moon, I'll get jacked up letters and my phone tries to spell check them. Mostly numbers though, which is nice.

  51. @deezy Who's ruffled? I've been commenting here on a semi-regular basis for a long time. No biggie.

I think it sucks sometimes when people say stuff without really knowing what's up, but I mean this is a forum so that's to be expected.

As P-Man said in his latest post, this really is one of the best DFW Sports Radio forums out there, even though there aren't many.

To anyone that thinks i'm a jerk or a bad guy (Anon 1245pm), that's cool I guess but there's very few people, outside of family members, who think of me in that light.
