Confest

How often do people check this site?  I'm about to find out, maybe.

Monday, June 30, is the semi-decennial anniversary of My Ticket Confession.

At 5:30 p.m., or nearby time of my choosing, I will be at The Barley House.

I will be delighted to introduce myself to any Confessor who drops by for the next hour or so thereafter.

I won't have a mask on, or a bag over my head.

No tricks.  I'll give you my real name, let you Ask Me Anything and might even answer.  But I hope we can just tahk Ticket.   If you would prefer not to identify yourself as a named Confessor, that is entirely up to you.

My sole request:  No photographs, please.

How will you find me?  I don't know.  I've never been to The Barley House.  I selected it because it seems Tickety, and because it is one of the many homes away from home – does he really have an actual home? – of one Michael Gruber, one of the very first patrons of this site, and its first commenter.

I could post a photograph, but what fun would that be?

I'll tell the barkeeps to direct anyone looking for The Plainsman to send him or her my way.  Hint:  I do not resemble Errol Flynn in "They Died with Their Boots On."

Unless the crowd is too vast, the drinks will be on me, at least for awhile.

Please, Confest-drink responsibly.

You are cordially invited to attend and raise a glass to five years of friendship.

And to accept my personal thanks for shopping at My Ticket Confession.

  1. My work schedule won't permit me to get off that early but it does sound like good times. Btw, over at GIML, there is a picture posted that is labeled as you. I'm pretty sure it's accurate. If I remember correctly you have gray in your hair and have a Junior Miller type build, maybe a sort of Jimmy Buffet type look to you. If I'm wrong, definitely correct me...just trying to give some P1's something to identify you by.

  2. Could be, T4. That's news to me, no idea what that image might be. There are some folks who know who I am who might conceivably have posted something. I look more like Warren Buffet than Jimmy Buffet, but the notable I'm most frequently told I resemble is NBC News guy Brian Williams.

  3. T4: Are you referring to the picture of the bald guy supposedly tuning the guitar for the Timewasters? No, that's not me.

We'll miss you, T4. I knew we'd miss some notables given the short notice and timing.

  4. Those "Buffet"s should read "Buffett."

  5. Yes. I just sent you an email to your Gmail account with a link. I guess you know which one I'm talking about though.

  6. Sounds fun. I'd go, but I'm 3
hours to the south of the house of barley.

  7. I like this idea. Plainsman, I work in Fort Worth and live in Mansfield, but I'll do my damnedest to make it.

  8. Sorry I missed this little gathering. It would be nice to put a face with some of the names/basement dwellers. :D

  9. Chances are slim in the extreme that I'll be able to make it due to work considerations. I would enjoy an MTC get together, though. Hopefully there's another one before the next 5 years are up.

  10. Out of town else would glad to be there. Hope this is not being organized in contemplation of taking the site the way of the dodo, as was speculated in the late lamented P1Wasteland combox after your cryptic "full-circle" remark and concurrent closure of further comments. That would be a loss.

Don't take anonymity off the table, but would it hurt my fellow anonymi to at least sign the screen? I do.

  11. I wish I could make it but I am about 5 hours South of the bhouse.

I only recently discovered the confession but I really like the perspective of all things ticket. I also suspect that changes are on the horizon and it will be nice to have an unbiased outlet to share thoughts.

  12. Well, the clock has turned, and we are now experiencing the fifth anniversary of My Ticket Confession. Looks like it might be a thin turnout tonight if the comments are any indication, but that's OK. Whoever shows up in a friendly spirit -- we'll have a good time.

I recall Jake gave the site a birthday wish (at my request) last year on WTDS.

    Thanks, everyone.

  13. Happy Decennial MTC. Glad this little thing is around. I wish I could join you guys but my wife has booked me for some manual labor after work that I can't get out of if I want to do anything fun for the 4th. Drink responsibly and remember, don't jar.

  14. Live in NE Arkansas, but enjoy the get together. Glad to see:

I know it is more work for you, but should improve things around here to get it back to where it was before it became an Anon back and forth slug fest.

  15. Sorry I missed it but living in Chattanooga, TN, a 12 hour drive for a free beer I'm not sure my wife would approve. lol. Hope y'all enjoyed it!!

  16. Plainsman, please don't attribute a low attendance at Barley House to a lack of appreciation for the great MTC site. Too short a notice and too far away for me. I'll bet I'm not alone.

  17. Don't be concerned. I'm taking a book along. Will hang for awhile (1-2 hours) to make sure I don't miss anyone who had to travel.

I have not been expecting a large turnout, so won't be disappointed.

I'm wearing a tan suit, blue shirt, gold-brown tie with a blue stripe. My customary plains attire.

  18. Sorry I can't be there. I'm an Internet P1, so The Barley House would be quite a trek for me.

  19. Hi Plainsman - just so you know, I don't post often but I read your blog DAILY. Darn, I can't come tonight either but please know you have a loyal reader out here. Thanks for your hard work!

FYI - I listen to the Ticket from 5:30 a.m. until about 11, then switch to the Fan (I LOVE Mike Basick), and back to the Ticket at 3:30. I like Ben & Skin quite a bit but the Hardline normally trumps them, although I do switch over at music segments or if Corby is getting on my nerves!

    Thanks again, Plainsman.

  20. This is shaping up to be quite a party.

  21. I hope you're live blogging, Pdude, from the party.

  22. So far, just enjoying a nice quiet cocktail by myself. You'll run right into me if you come through the front door. Don't worry, as promised I will stay here a good long time. Deezy said he or she would try to make it, and can't let a good Confessor down.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey Plainsman - Deezy's definitely a he, and forgot that he had other obligations tonight.

I really wish I could make it happen, but let's try this again in the near future.

Drink one (mine) for me! Whoa, five digits in the CAPTCHA this time instead of the normal three.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks Deezy. I'll have some nachos and give it another hour.

  25. Sucks that I had to miss it but we've got baby #3 due any minute now and I couldn't NOT come home. Plainsman, let's try it again in the 817 area code for us Tarrant County folk. :)
