I Will Be Away from My Ticket Confession . . .

Don't you hate to get automatic replies where some jamoke tries to show you how important he is by activating some automated reply designed to give the impression that his employment has required his service away from the customary place of employment, with the result that he does not have time for your puny efforts to communicate with him?  You know Chris-Chris is checking email and voicemail with exactly the same regularity he did when his butt was wedged securely in his office chair, peering down at his smartphone as the Hertz van is preparing to dump his non-Gold-Club-having ass out at the rental counter.

Well, I'll be on the tony West Coast, don't you know, for the next week.  My assignment there is of the utmost importance and certainly reflects the esteem in which I am held by my Plainsmaster.

Please conduct yourselves with the dignity for which the legacy Confessor is known.

  2. If you have to leave us on our own temporarily, at least you left us with a picture of Christina Hendricks. Thank you for that.

I appreciate your solid ticker work, Justin. I also like how Donnie pronounces your name in the BaDD Radio intro. You know you're accepted by the in crowd when they start making fun of you.

  3. pman left it with us for the week though I expect he will drop in to check on the place.

    Cool, Justin drops in.

Tried baiting the snake today. He didn't twitch on the other side of the line. Greater than zero chance we get to hear about tennis again this week.

Not hating the summer bash promos yet. But, it's early.

  4. THAT'S Christina Hendricks??! When, circa Firefly?

Man, now it's time to go re-watch that series...

  5. Google Image Search tells me it was from a 2011 Men's Health article, so it was the beginning of Mad Men.

Personally, I never get tired of the Summer Bash songs. It helps that I punch out as they're going to break so I end up hearing it probably only once a day. Still, those are my favorite station promos by a long shot, regardless of who performs them.

  9. Hey, Justin: Thanks for checking in. The Confessor loves to hear from the Inside, even though you're not permitted to give us much in the way of real information.

But I would remind you that Your Plainsman may be reached at ThePlainsman1310@gmail.com and has an impeccable reputation for discretion among a certain class of correspondents.

You likee Christina? For the one-off ginger, you have simply got to shop at My Ticket Confession.

  15. Becca is back, and I don't get into calling out a woman on whether or not that was the original color that came from the manufacturer. Might as well ask her how much she weighs.

I wish you all hadn't run off Sirois. I think them boys are pretty entertaining. It takes a bit to distinguish the two, but after a year or so, I have it down. I don't know if he was the 'hold onto yer butts guy' or not, but y'all flat ran him off. Quit that. Even Spittle. Seriously, I mean it. If homeboy wants to come in here and spout some propaganda, well you be sure to call him out, but try not to make him want to go away. Why he would venture in this half-assed collection of bored humans is beyond me, but I'll entertain it as a possibility.
All in favor if more commentariat, evil or benign.

  16. So, I don't want to rehash something that's been talked about to death, but I found this interesting on my way in this morning:

At around 7:55 on the New Skool show with Sean and RJ on The FAIL, they were doing their "Man Card Court" bit, which is an obvious "Gay or Not Gay" rip off and Sean said, "I think that's kind of gay..." and their producer Troy Hughes said, "Oh wait, you can't say that remember. This is MAN CARD COURT..." and then Sean said, "Oh yeah, will you MARK that please" which was followed by blowhard fake laughing.

It's nothing to really write home about, but I think it's the first time I've heard anything about the rip offs on the FAIL. An acknowledgement of the "feud" is at least something to debate about for the next 7 hours at work, don't you think? :)

  19. So now that the May ratings are out...Ticket, Fan and ESPN are all in the top 10 in the overalls M25-54...so yes, why are we fighting?

Seems like the DFW radio listener thinks there is room for all 3 stations.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Since we don't have access, how did the fan do 6a-7p M25-54?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm especially interested in the 12-3 hours...ESPN vs Ticket vs Fan

    ReplyDelete
  22. M25-54
    M-Fri 6a-7p
    Ticket - 6.6, #1
    Fan - 4.2, #5
    ESPN - 3.6, #8

    M-Fri 10a-3p
    Ticket - 6.3, #1
    Fan - 5.1, #5
    ESPN - 3.2, #12

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Fan is what the ticket was in 94. Up and comers who were young and hip. Now they are a bunch of rich, lazy, grumpy old men. There is a reason The Fan is creeping up on them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Who cares about The FAIL? We come here to talk Ticket, not FAIL. Please go away, Gavin.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Looks like the ticket's days of just showing up and doing a half ass show are coming to an end. I predict The Fan will be #1 by the end of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Does anyone flip-flop more than Corby? Mon/Tue he said the heat has this wrapped up, sure the spurs might win a game, but its over. Today he says he knew if the spurs won the west conf. he knew they were winning it all. So maddening!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've been a P1 since 96. The only show that is a must for me now is the Musers.

Loved Corby as a yuck monkey, can't stand him as co-host and have always disliked Danny for his arrogance.

Norm too old and senile now and never admits when he's wrong.

Dan's always been an idiot and while I appreciate Bob's work ethic and knowledge, I find him a bore and sports bully on air.

So, I'm part of the reason the Tix #s are down and the Fan's are up.

I don't believe The Fan will reach #1 by EOY, but they will continue to make up ground, esp in the afternoon hours. I welcome it. May get Mike and Corby off their lazy asses a little bit.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't know if any of you caught the BaD movie of the month review of Victory with special guest Corby. It was very fun and good but my main point is that IMO Corby, Bod and Dan have an excellent rapport together. This isn't the first time I have noticed this. I think there is a good chance that when Rhynes hangs it up that Corby Bob and Dan will be teamed together on afternoon drive with Jake teaming with Donovan on mid days. Just a hunch but I can see that happening.

  29. What's with all the Fan trolling over here?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Because nobody cares enough about the Fan to put up a blog.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Having competition is a good thing. Maybe this closing of the gap in the ratings will prompt shows like BADD and THL to try a little harder. Below are great examples of how two products can co-exist.

    XFL vs NFL
    Conservative radio vs Air America
    Sirus vs XM
    WCW vs WWF
    Gatorade vs All-Sport
    AT&T vs Cingular Wireless

  32. Sitting at a West Coast airfield waiting for my aeroplane to return me to the plains.

Half-Cat wins the nonexistent Comment of the Week award.

As I have said too many times in the past few weeks, (i) stop worrying about Fan partisans posting here, and (ii) stop accusing Fan partisans of being Fan employees. These comments are just baiting the True Confessor, and you're falling for it.

I haven't compared the numbers. Is there, in fact, a downward trend -- even if slight in magnitude -- of BaD and Hardline ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not sure how BaD could work harder than they already are. They easily make the most effort of any show out there as far as I can tell.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't like the Fan employees using this site to carry out guerrilla warfare tactics. This used to be a great place to talk about the Ticket. Now, every topic is interrupted by Fan propaganda. It got old months ago. Plainsman polices the comments, but not where trolls are concerned, and I think it's hurting the discourse here. There used to be good debate, now it's all propaganda.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Corby gets scorched for uninformed discussions. It seems George was ill-prepared for bomb talk this morning. Didn't seem to know the whole story and stumbled with each question Craig raised. Was this a burned segment or simply a case where it just didn't work?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've been silent on the whole FAN "invasion." But I've grown weary of it, so I'll say a few things. As if anyone cares.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, Pman. FAN trolling has become an issue. It's disrupting the discourse. I've no idea who this person or people is/are affiliated with. However, I've known/know many a Ticket listener, hardcore P1s, and none of them subscribe to the ratings service. Yet there is a FAN troll out there who claims to have done that very thing. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that this individual is merely a Fan Fan(atic). I'll leave it at that.

(Just to let the one individual know: madam or sir, it's very obvious when you post replies to your own comments. Your prose style is unmistakable. I know you think you're being clever by softening and clarifying your first comment, but you fool no one.)

Whatever the case, this person or these people represent exactly what's wrong with The FAN and why it will always come in a far distant 2nd or 3rd to The Ticket. (A 2.4 differential is huge in the ratings; just to head that one off at the pass. Moreover that's one ratings book, not an established pattern. That sample size, at this time at least, has little meaning.) The problem with these FAN trolls and the station as a whole is that they have nothing new or better to offer. From the "We're sucking less" or some such campaign, to poaching Ticket JV ex-pats, to the now rather pathetic ploy of openly, cheaply, aping everything in every way no matter how small in detail The Ticket does. What's sadder is the the concurrent campaign to lampoon the few things even they won't deign to outright steal (e.g., saying "mark" in a mocking tone). The whole operation is pathetic, small minded. You have a cast and crew full of mediocrities, has beens, industry jokes (see Chris "What does plagiarize mean?" Arnold), and outright Uptown Douchers who are always a step behind (think of the "bro" from X small town in west TX still sporting the faux hawk, who has no idea he's outmoded because in his small world, he's hip). To make matters worse, they're mostly not too smart. The entire staff (sans B&S, who seem like good dudes but are mediocrities to the core) does nothing more than imitates and at the same time denigrates the one thing they wish to be more than anything. I remember junior high, too.

So what happens is that they end up, unwittingly, asking their listeners to tune into the station they're imitating/making fun of. When the listener does, s/he says "oh, wait a minute, THIS is soooo much better." Same goes with the new to DFW listener who you've disingenuously led to believe all the stuff you've stolen is yours.

And to let you FAN trolls or troll know: yes, I've spent the past year or so giving The FAN equal time to The Ticket. The FAN is so sad, that it makes THL come off as a quality show. That my friends is a tough feat to pull off.

    ReplyDelete
  37. When it comes to Fan comments, do what I do and ignore it in the conversation as a whole. They'll eventually give it up and stop posting. They're winning when people complain about it. It's turning this site into a place I don't visit as much because of the bickering.

    ReplyDelete
  38. They won't stop commenting, T4. Why? Because they are FAN interns and promo guys. No, they're not being told to do this, but many at The FAN do know what they're up to and while it's not encouraged, it is given the 'atta boy' sign of approval. Thus the behavior continues and will continue no matter what. Ignoring it will only make it worse as they will post more and more frequently in order to fill up an entire thread with comments, self-replies to their own comments, one-liner comments that tangentially relate to their own comments, etc. Sooner or later we will all give up because of it, stop visiting and commenting, and Pman will then close shop. That's what they're up to. By no fighting it, we only enable/hasten their goal.

I know this because a bud of mine's nephew is a FAN promo guy.

Believe me or not, I don't care. But it is what's occurring.

  39. "Corby gets scorched for uninformed discussions. It seems George was ill-prepared for bomb talk this morning."

I didn't hear bomb talk, but with regard to Corby, it's not just that Corby is ill-prepared or uninformed. It's that he doesn't seem to even realize it. The less he knows about a topic, the more he seems to be willing to make bold, declarative statements on the topic.

  47. I'm the anon that ran through the lineup explaining why I don't listen. P1 since 96, no Fan affiliation, far from it, I barely listen. More apt to listen to Rush or Hannity in the afternoons. Still love the Musers tho, even if they did botch the Bergdal discussion this morning. Thought it was relevant as I was explaining my how my listening habits have evolved after someone posted the recent ratings.

Anyway, to be honest, I have no clue how to set up a profile here so I post anonymously (only posted 4 or 5 times in the past). Name is Gunther, will use it going forward unless someone can help me out with setting up a profile. Wth is Wordpress??

  49. The smartest thing the #2 sports station in Dallas has done is change up their clock so that when The Ticket goes to break, #2 is talking.

I'll admit I switch over (to #2 and #3) during breaks. And the thing is, there are A LOT of breaks on The Ticket. I understand they're the only Cumulus property making money, so it's necessary, while the losing sports talk stations can barely sell their ad slots, but it's so freaking annoying. I get into my car to drive to work, and The Musers are on a break. I get in the car to go to lunch and it's the break before Norm/BAD cross-talk, then another break. I get in the car to go home from work and THL is on a break.

Commercials - Ticker - commercials - traffic.... it's too much. The long, frequent breaks are killing my Ticket pants. And I can't imagine I'm the only one who switches over. At some point, people are going to say, "hey, that's not bad. Better than listening to another Diamond Doctor commercial."

I have one more thing to say about the second-rated sports station in DFW. They seem to have given up on ever trying NOT to use Ticket vernacular. Especially B&S (I know, they came from 1310). They used to avoid it. Now they revel in it. I can't recall what the phrases were, but I heard three instances of Ticket lingo the other day in one segment.I was shocked they didn't use a "bottom" drop when someone used the word. The thievery is out of control. I used to pity and ignore #2. Now I actively despise them.

Oh, and also - the Sirois Boys do one of the best shows on The Ticket. Fresh, funny and energetic. I would love them to do drive time when THL fades away.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh, and please count my anonymous, but 3 or 4-year MTC-reading voice as another vote for BAN THE FAIL TROLLS.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm new to the area and have heard alot about the ticket. I tuned in and heard a bunch of guys who seemed to not wanna be there. Then I tuned into The Fan and heard refreshing, energetic guy/sports talk. I am gonna stick with 105.3 The Fan for my sports talk needs.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh boy, 3:17, you sound so honest and legit. No way you are another FAN employee. Here's another vote to edit the FAN trolling, Plainsman. In fact, more than a vote, a plea. They are trying to kill this site, and they are succeeding.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @358
Exactly right. I've warned you guys and gals and Pman what the deal is. I've layer out who is doing it and what their objective is. Ignore it at you own peril. As Tony "The Goose" Siragusa likes to say, "Uh, it's happening right now guys." Well, it is.

    ReplyDelete
  54. In response to 3:17, I, too, have just moved to DFW. I've had a different experience. I heard about the Ticket being the best sports station in the country, so I tried them first. I've never heard a station like it. Unique, funny, insightful. Hosts that seem to really get along and have fun. There is an aura about the station. I found myself wanting more of each show each day.

Then I listened to the FAN. I found the morning guys very boring. The midday guy sounds like he's trying too hard to be Jim Rome. The afternoon guy's voices are identical, and they each sound contrived. I thought it was several cuts below the Ticket.

I have not yet listened to ESPN, but will do so over the next couple of weeks, and I'll report back.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I know none of you want to hear it, but it is a fact. The ticket is in a panic. I got it from the inside. The Fan is creeping up closer than you think. If The Fan is so bad, why did bad radio and rhyner come within hours of joining The Fan??

    ReplyDelete
  56. "refreshing, energetic guy/sports talk."

Sounds like it was lifted right out of an interoffice memo, marketing collateral piece, or afternoon meeting!

"Hi, my name is Cheryl and I'm calling from CBS Radio 105.3 The Fan, and I'd like to set an appointment with you to demonstrate to you how our refreshing, energetic guy and sports talk can add value to your business. Is it possible that you are free late this afternoon during our very popular refreshing, energetic guy and sports talk show known as the Hard-Ben and Skin-Show-Line? No, sir, you can't pay us in Dar."

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah, yeah, maybe I'll get around to deleting the more pathetic pro-Fan bull, maybe I won't.

But in the meantime, and I don't know how many times T4 and I and some others have to say it, CAN'T YOU GUYS FIGURE OUT THAT BY SPUTTERING ABOUT BOGUS PRO-FAN COMMENTS ALL YOU DO IS ENCOURAGE MORE OF THEM? Holy Jeebus, Confessors, didn't any of you ever have sisters?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm not queer and I'll prove it...

If the Ticket were worried (the ratings make it seem like the shouldn't) and somehow THL was replaced by the Sirois Bros...I would be an even harder P1. Truth is, no matter how much I can't stand Corby as a host, he serves a good purpose at the Ticket. I know he's a cocky rick with a p, but he is good at what he does when his attitude doesn't get in the way. If they would separate Corby and Danny, they would both be better for it. Until they start losing ratings it'll never happen unless someone does it on their own. The Simons Bros. will be at Bone Daddy's tomorrow. If I wasn't busy and was nearby, I would definitely stop by. Mike is very personable and BD's is huge with me and my coworkers so we frequent a lot.

    Keep MTC classy P1's!
