BREAKING BREAKING -- The Ticket Resurgent?

I tell you men and women, I have no way, no way at all of knowing whether this will turn out to be correct, but this is what I am hearing from a local entertainment source of uncertain reliability as to what the next ratings book is going to show for May 21-June 17:

--  Continued increases in overall ratings for The Ticket.

--  Last couple of months showing the Ticket's best ratings going back to the fall.

--  Musers and Hardline the top-rated sports shows in the entire market, with the Musers annihilating Shan/RJ and M/M.

--  Hardline continuing to show increases for the past several months.

--  Continuing the earlier-observed trend, numbers overall not as big for The Ticket or the other sports talkers but The Ticket still arguably the overall leader.

--  Good days for G-Bag and B/S appear to coincide with Ranger days.

If these observations prove correct, it ain't the good old days, but it does tend to support Jeff Catlin's "hang tough" stance in the face of grumbling about content and (especially) Corby.  My correspondent did not offer any news regarding BaD or Norm, nor did it offer numbers so we could see for ourselves.

Nevertheless, I thought I'd take a chance on this source and pass this along.  We'll see if it's supported by reports from official sources.

"That Barry Horn is so HOT, he makes me  .  .  .  no, I can't say it!"

In case you missed it, I tossed up another post earlier today, including an exclusive photograph of Ms. Becca.    The Return of Becca and the Revenge of Mike

  2. I just still can't believe BaD is so low.

  3. Looks like my source wasn't too far ahead of the game. Anyway, fun while it lasted.

  4. I really don't understand the Bad radio numbers. I mean, I have gone over to the Fan during the Tom Grieve show or player interviews and it is downright unlistenable to me. Maybe it appeals to the 20 somethings.

  5. I have a theory on Bad Radio, but it's a little negative, so . . . .

  6. For me, BaD has a lot of tune out segments. Segments I'm not willing to fight through like I can on the other shows. Tom Grieve, hockey talk (especially off-season hockey talk), way too many interviews, way too many 'audio' segments.

  7. BaDD and the Musers are still 1a and 1b for me. They're completely different kinds of shows and I can see why people would prefer one over the other, but I dig the awkward chemistry and constant potential e-brake of BaDD as much as I dig the rock steadiness of the Musers.

Unrelated, has anyone else noticed how much Danny and Davey have been a bad influence on Rhads this week? He's using more and more Hardline-influenced language (he threw out "chicken s" on the phone with Sham yesterday) and seems to be treading farther into the kinds of touchy topics that might get him some negative attention from FSSW. Usually when someone with a cushy TV job fills in (Kickball Head and Dooce, for instance), they shy away from things that can get them in trouble. Rhads doesn't seem to be too bothered by it over the last couple days.

  8. Donovan and Jake just knocked it out of the stadium with the Ceelo FU parody.

  9. Corby making an ass out of himself is nothing new, but he took it to another level on Twitter yesterday:

  10. Looking forward to corky reporting that Ken Stabler will be in Schindler's List II next year.

  11. I am a P1 of BAD radio since they first started. For me, I like the input of Donny and Jake, and don't mind TC. While I echo many others who think the Tom Grieve show has run its course, that would be no reason for the ratings drop. My uneducated guess would be this:

There are some who switch to the G-Bag Nation at 10am, so there is not as big of a lead in for BAD. Then, you add the fact that it takes a long time for their actual show to get started (seems like noon 30 often times), that others are changing the channel. When you Go Norm last segment, commercial, cross talk, commercial, BAD opening, kneel down, commercial - first segment is almost 40-50 minutes past Norm's last segment.

    But that's just a guess.

  12. @Brad Gilbert...I think you hit the nail on the head. I know they won't do it, but I wish they would stick Donovan with Norm and let Jake take his place on BAD. Donovan has the best chemistry by far with Norm then anyone else. Then once Norm retires leave Donny in that slot paired with one of the JV's.

Two reasons I disagree with your assessment:

    1. Norm has higher ratings than BaD. Yes, he does lose some of The Musers audience (since most of them aren't listening at work) but his ratings are still better than BaD Radio.

    2. Purely anecdotal, but everyone that I know loves BaD Radio's opening segment. If they are BaD P1s, then the opening is appointment radio. I highly doubt there is a P1 out there that somehow gets sick of waiting between the end of Norm and the beginning of BaD's sports segment at 12:30 that they switch to G-Bag.

  14. Keep downplaying it and saying it has little to no impact at all, but there are people tuning out on Norm and BaDD for a certain reason. Clearly the drive time shows are not suffering nearly as bad.

  15. Quite the misleading title there

2 - The opening montage is great. What I am talking about is the "segment" right after that. It feels like a kneel down and a time waste. They could still do the open (which is must-tune-in time) then go right into their first real segment.

I think that would work great because Donovan and Mike S work well together too, and Mike could step right in for Norm when Norm is out/retired

  17. BAD Radio sucks. The only good thing they have is Bob and his sports knowledge. Dan is a sports idiot, his voice annoys the crap out of me, he tries to be funny but he's not. The board op (Mino) plays way too many predictable drops, they try to do bits which are 90% failed, and they have the worst list of guests at The Ticket. All of this, combined with Jake's fake laughter and TC's tickers make this show impossible to listen to. Im not surprised they are in last place.

I think its hilarious that both Bob and Jake both complained that Rotten Radio plays too many musers bits. Well Bob, this is why. The musers have been #1 in the ratings month after month, year after year, while your show is the anchor that brings the ratings down.

I would be on board with Bad Radio if it was Bob and Donny talking more sports. I think they both bring strong sports knowledge to the table, and it would definitely tune in. I doubt that would happen since "producer" Jake insists on forcing failed bits on all of us.

  18. I have taken a sabbatical from the Ticket. I had committed to the leave for a year, but I may just not return to listening to them.

I enjoy the Musers and Norm. However, I am tired of Dan's pro-drug comments, Bob's hockey-talk, Corby and Danny's political commentary (if I wanted uneducated political opinions I would watch MSNBC), and the overall hypocrisy of the station. They will bash Baltimore for its domestic abuse player (whom they cut ties with), but welcome to the Cowboys a player whose charges were construed as worse. Really? Josh Hamilton deserves a third chance and Ron Washington was okay even though he was a drug user and cheated on his wife, but Greg Williams deserves to be cut loose and ridiculed. Really?

I am sure the Ticket could care less as they have their listeners and are doing well. I just am much happier listening to national programming where "cheerleading" is not a requirement.
