CONFIDENTIAL TO MIKE IN DUNCANVILLE: KRLD ("The Fan"): 877-881-1053; KESN ("ESPN Dallas): 855-787-1033

Man, have we had our fill of this guy?

Win or lose, can we count on this marking the end of his presence on Ticket bandwidth?

His recent rants are sounding more and more like extreme self-parodying bits ("I win the e-brake"; "I move the needle"), which pretty much kills any interest in seeing what we thought was a true narcissist get his comeuppance (or knockdownance).  I'm a little surprised The Ticket is playing along, although they are getting some Fight Night pub, which has been lacking in the last couple of years.

Absent a knockout, my money is on the crowd voting with Jake, if I had any money.

"Got nexts, Jake."

  1. He will never be put on the air again, in our estimation.

  2. At first I thought he was doing a bit, but he really does believe P1's are clamoring for more of whatever he thinks he brings to the station. Hopefully after Jake disposes of him we'll never be subjected to his BS again.

  3. It's painful to think that someone would come to that conclusion.

Repeat callers with some kind of distinctive way about them are OK, even if sometimes rambunctious. But, as Confucius taught, everything in moderation. I'd be good with MiD once a month or thereabouts, with a really light pull on the cutoff trigger.

    A bit isn't a broadcast.

    Let's go to . . . Hakeem in Frisco.

  4. Jake sounding a little cocky about his stamina. That doesn't bode well.

  5. The more this plays out, the more I think it's far more bit than real animosity.

Having said that, I do believe that MiD has some issues and is probably difficult to be around, much less friends with/have as a family member or coworker.

As regards this being the last we'll hear from MiD....not a chance. The fact that HE is the feature of the FN promos has done and will do nothing but increase his own self-assessed "value." I predict that no matter the fight's outcome, MiD's Ticket presence will, at least for the short term, be greater. At first it will be fostered and furthered by each show (Varsity and JV) discussing the bout, at length. This will go on for a week. Because of this, MiD's already inflated sense of self will only expand to hitherto unknown gaseous heights. And now that the Cowboys are kicking off, he will have a weekly opportunity to call in (as the only caller driven segments are bit related--e.g., Phone Scan, Ebrake) and do his thing. The only, and I mean ONLY way it stops, at least where his on air presence is concerned, is that Cat puts the kibosh on him being put through during any caller segment/postgame show. Other than that, MiD isn't going away. Guys like him don't work that way. Thirsty is as thirsty does.

  6. Corby identifies the fraternity thrown off campus at TCU but not the one with a dead student at A&M. I wonder why.

From the Hardline interview...think Red's the one fighting tomorrow night. and also dating a 49yr old. nice.

  8. Is it just me or is Gordo more of a thrashing these days. Maybe I have changed but it seems like he is looking to kick everybody in the crotch even more so than usual. I know they are playing radio, but if I were George I would have given him a knuckle sammich a long time ago.

  9. Why not just keep calling it "The Ranch Report?"

    Because bits are fun.

  10. 326, I have no illusions about what MiD wants to do. My wish is solely for Ticket management to cut him damn off.

  11. I hope Mike in Duncanville absolutely destroys Jake. Someone needs to knock that dude down a few pegs.

Only wish Thomas Charles was fighting again so someone could knock him the f out.

  12. Excellent Howard Cosell impression by George Dunham to kick off Fight Night. Impressive, and pretty good improvisational patter, too.

  13. I missed if they talked about it...where is Junior today?

  14. Craig mentioned this morning that he had a Colorado trip planned with some chums before Fight Night was scheduled. He regrets missing the fun.

I believe he said he had never missed a Ticket after-work event until tonight.

  15. I've heard all but about an hour of Fight Night. It's not my favorite radio event although clearly it's incredibly popular with the people who turn out for it in increasing numbers.

    A couple of quick hits:

Bob does a good job with the call of the fights. You can get a notion of what is actually happening.

The crew's hollering is interfering less with the call of the fight than I recall from years past.

Running a little behind, I think. Jake/Dunc fight will compete with the opening quarter of the Cowboys game.

Am I hearing a lot less Gordon during the live action this year? Wait, no, I don't think I am.

I don't get all the references and gags when the quips are flying thick and fast but it's fun to listen in on the banter. A refreshing oasis of political incorrectness.

    I really miss Rich Phillips.

  18. I get the impression Mike isn't going to take his defeat like a man.

  19. Plains...I agree about George. As much as Gordo may get overrated at times, George may get equally underrated. I cracked up at Bob's telling Jake "Now this is like the speech before election day. You're wanting everyone to like you" when he started his space and planet bashing.

  20. Yeah. After looking through both Jake and MiD's Twitter feeds, it's fairly obvious that this was 90% schtick. MiD is the big winner here. And on several different levels. His status with the majority of listeners and Varsity and JV has gone up exponentially. He handled this whole thing slickly. Almost like he had a PR team and planned the whole thing out. Whatever the case, well done, well played, MiD. Fn A, smartly played. You are now closer than ever to being an employee of The Ticket/Cumulus. Be careful what you wish for...
